Dear LIB readers: I hate the way my girlfriend dresses...

Posted: 23 Feb 2014 06:50 AM PST

From a male LIB reader
I so much hate the way my girlfriend dresses. I've complained over and over again but it seems I'm not getting through to her. She doesn't think a woman can be sexy without showing body parts. Her clothes are skimpy, trashy and disgusting. They are all either too short, too tight, breast on display, her favourite are transparent clothes. Those kinds of clothes are fine if you're standing on the streets but not when you are going out with your man. I get very uncomfortable when we go out. She likes all the attention she gets from people when we go out but I am embarrassed. I do not want to be seen in public with a girl dressed that way but because I care a lot about her I still haven't broken up with her. What can I do about this lady? I really want her in my life. Minus the dressing, everything else about her is perfect. My kind of woman. Please advise.

Iroko boss Jason Njoku's absent father comes calling after 33 years

Posted: 23 Feb 2014 04:30 AM PST

Tech entrepreneur and iROKO CEO Jason Njoku revealed on Twitter a few days back that his absent biological father, a man he has never met before in all his 33+ years on earth, suddenly wants to meet him. But Jason says he's not having it. Below is what he wrote on his blog...
"So my son is now 6.5 months old. He is easily my greatest work. My family beyond all the success in business remains the most important thing I have achieved. Only those from a 'broken' home can truly understand that. A happy family is the ultimate sign of success. To be honest I haven't really started truly understanding what it is to be a father. Currently I'm just muddling through. I haven't met my father before. Ever. So its all on the job training. So as you can imagine I was surprised that after 33.2 years my own father decided it was time to reach out. Time to have a chat. Time to connect. Success has many fathers. Failure has none. #NotHavingIt."
Dear men, you don't have to have a relationship with the mother of your child, but you must have one with your child. That is your flesh and blood. How you can walk away from him/her is beyond me. If you're an absentee parent, that child or children that you abandoned will make it big, without you, and one day, you will be filled with regrets. Mend your ways before it's too late.

Female lawyer tortures househelp with disused car fan belt

Posted: 23 Feb 2014 02:12 AM PST

Personally, I think the police should start arresting people who inflict such injuries on others. Call it 'attempted murder' or something like that and lock them up for at least a year. How can anyone be so heartless to do this to another human being?

A female lawyer based in Calabar Cross River State, Florence Ujinka, was picked up and interrogated by the police for torturing her 13 year old househelp, Chidera Asonye Nathaniel. Florence is reported to have used an old fan belt to inflict marks on young Chidera.

The woman was reported to the police by a Child Rights Group called Basic Rights Counsel Initiative in Calabar, who revealed that since the woman and her husband brought Chidera from Anambra state to Calabar in 2012 to serve as their househelp, Mrs Ujinka had repeatedly subjected the young boy to torture and inhuman treatment.

"Mrs Florence Ujinka has been subjecting Chidera to inhuman and degrading treatment by torturing him with an automobile fan belt and in the process inflicting him with severe wounds on his body". The group said
The group wants the police to file a case of 'torture, inhuman and degrading treatment and child trafficking' against the lawyer and her doctor husband. The police in Calabar have promised to investigate the matter and said the couple would be brought to book soon and made to face the law
Female legal practitioner, Barrister Florence Ujinka who is married  to a medical doctor, Marcel Ujinka is being investigated by the police in Calabar, the Cross River State capital for allegedly  using a disused car  fan belt to inflict bodily harm on her house help, Chidera  Asonye Nathaniel.
The legal practitioner and her husband who reside at Parliamentary Extension/ Execltech Filling Station Calabar are said to have brought the 13-year old Chidera  from Anambra State to Calabar  in 2012 to serve as their house help but the lady has  since been subjecting the boy to torture and inhuman treatment.
A report by a Child Rights Group in Calabar, Basic Rights Counsel Initiative to the police that led to her investigation stated "Mrs Florence Ujinka has been subjecting Chidera to inhuman and degrading treatment by torturing him with an automobile fan belt and in the process inflicting him with severe wounds on his body".
The report stated that the boy who is a pupil of State  Housing Primary School, Atekong Drive in Calabar the Cross River State capital was trafficked by "learned and educated people who know the law on child trafficking and yet still subjected him to torture and inhuman treatment".
Mr Bassey Ibor, the head of Basic Rights Initiative said the treatment of the boy by her Barrister Ujinka and her husband establishes a prima facie case of "torture, inhuman and degrading treatment and child trafficking against the couple".
Mr Hogan Bassey the Police Public Relations spokesman for the Cross River Police Command said the matter is being investigated and the culprit would be brought to book soon and made to face the law".

Garcelle Beauvais says Beyonce needs to cover up and stop being raunchy

Posted: 22 Feb 2014 04:26 PM PST

In a recent interview with Hello Beautiful, 47 year old actress and mother of two Garcelle Beauvais said she's shocked at how women in entertainment show too much skin these days and says Beyonce can still be sexy without going overboard.
"For me, there's so many ways to be sexy without being overt about it. As I get older, I still want to be sexy, but I want to do it in a different way. I want to do it in a way that's more classy.
Certain things are just too overt for kids. I love Beyonce. I love her. I think she's beautiful and talented. But, I think there has to be a fine line where you have to take responsibility for what you do. I think it's good to be sexy, but sexy can come across in so many different ways. It doesn't have to be everything showing, out grinding all of the time."

Photos from rally against Pastor Tunde of Light of Hope Orphanage

Posted: 22 Feb 2014 02:28 PM PST

In April 2013, the pastor and director of Light of Hope Orphanage, Akute, Ogun State, a man simply known as pastor Tunde was arrested by the police after two children in his orphanage accused him of rape. (Find the story here). The orphanage was closed down after his arrest, but he was later released.

Today Saturday February 22nd, some members of Human Rights Groups including Project Alert, Women Arise, Freedom for Abused Children heard Pastor Tunde was reopening the orphanage in Lambe, after relocating it from Akute and stormed the area to stop the orphanage from re-launching. They held a peaceful rally and called on the government to shut down the new orphanage.

But why would the government allow a man, accused by girls as young as 10 of raping them, to run an orphanage? Shouldn't they shut him down permanently? More photos from the rally after the cut
