Photo: 3-year-old sore in my leg forced me into stealing - suspect arrested by RRS

Posted: 10 Aug 2016 01:21 PM PDT

A twenty-year old man arrested by the operatives of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of Lagos State Police Command, for allegedly stealing a mobile phone, has said that a festering sore in his right leg forced him into the criminal act.

The suspect, Sunday Vincent, was apprehended by Policemen after the suspect and others now at large, forcefully snatched a mobile phone from his victim, a cab driver, (name withheld) at Ojota Motor Park, on Monday, August 8th 2016.
The victim stated that the suspect and his gang members beckoned at him to stop along the road.

"They pretended as if they wanted to board the cab. And all of a sudden, they asked me to pull over that they were no longer going. As I parked the car, my mind told me to check my phone where I kept it, but I didn't see the phone again. Then I shouted for help, which attracted the RRS operatives patrolling around the scene to come closer. As they sighted the policemen approaching, they all took to their heels. Immediately, the Police ran after them and caught the suspect  while others managed to escape," the victim explained.
On his arrival at the RRS's Headquarters, the arrested suspect confessed that he was forced to commit the crime because he was desperately looking for money to cure his three-year old sore in his right leg.
According to him, "I was injured about three years ago when I was a bus conductor. Since that time I had been nursing the sore. I had spent all my life savings on it. When helps were no longer forthcoming from anywhere, I deliberately committed the offence because I must cater for my well-being and continue to treat the sore... Although, after I was caught, I realised that I had committed offence against God and Humanity. If I had known, I would have chosen another means to look for money rather than taking to stealing."
The arrested suspect told the investigator that his receiver, Samuel Ajekigbe, was his benefactor who accommodated him when he had no place to live. Upon confessing this, the Policemen immediately picked-up the receiver at his residence, 38, Oyinbo Orunmila Street, Unity Estate in Ojodu.
In his words, Ajekigbe, noted that the suspect only told him he saw the phones on the ground on his way home.

"I met the suspect about five years ago. He was my neighbour at Isheri-Olofin. After I packed out of the house, we lost contact. All of our sudden he just showed up at my new resident at Unity Estate seeking for accommodation. I took pity on him to accommodate him under my roof. But to my surprise, I never knew he was stealing those phones. He only told he found them on the ground on his way home. Then, I decided to help him to sell them for N8,000. And out of that money, he gave me just N2,000," he added.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Superintendent of Police, SP Dolapo Badmus, noted that investigation is ongoing to arrest the fleeing members of the syndicate. The two suspects have been transferred to Lagos State Task Force on Environment for prosecution.

Woman is filmed riding on a bike dressed in just her panties and a pair of trainers

Posted: 10 Aug 2016 10:38 AM PDT

Motorists in the western Russian city of Kaluga were shocked to see an almost naked woman riding as a passenger on a bike. Except for her helmet, panties and a pair of trainers, she was completely naked.

In a video posted online, the young woman seemed to be enjoying herself and even swung her body towards a neighbouring car at a road intersection, so the driver could slap her bottom.

Despite her antics, it appears both passenger and driver will escape sanction.
A Russian police spokesman in a press statement said:
"The girl was riding in her panties but she did not show her breasts as she was leaning into the biker and her breasts were covered by his back. It is not an offence, we have women walking in the streets in more provocative garments with uncovered backs. It would be an offence if she were to walk naked on the streets, but in this case we cannot do anything."
Online opinion on the matter has been divided with some people saying they love the show while others say she could been a distraction to drivers and easily have caused an accident.

Meet the world’s most identical triplets who eat the same food, have the same weight and live the same lives (photos)

Posted: 10 Aug 2016 09:47 AM PDT

Laura, Nicola and Alison Crimmins from Dublin, Ireland, are the three stunning models dubbed the World's most identical twins, and they do everything together- from eating the same type of food, to modelling, to living together, exercising and even hair styling.
The 29-year-old triplets ensure they do everything in accord so they can all look beautifully alike.
They eat exactly the same thing and, as a result, the 5ft11 sisters have matching 28inch waists, 34A bra sizes, and weigh bang on 8 ½ stone.

Laura, who's in a long-term relationship, said:
"We live identical lives so we look the same and we love it. "It's important we use exactly the same products and get all our beauty treatments together – whether that's spray tanning, nails, make-up or our haircuts. We all book ourselves in for an appointment with our hairdresser Kathy at the same time so our locks look identical. Whether we are getting our highlights done, a blow dry or just a trim, Kathy will book us one after the other so there's no difference in our styles."

 Allison who is single adds:
"It's important for our job as triplet models that we look exactly alike so we eat the same diet and exercise together too. We go for a run together in the morning then having porridge for breakfast. For lunch, we go to the same café together and order a salad. Then for dinner, it's grilled chicken with a baked potato. We have even have the same food on cheat days, which is usually a Dominos pizza."

Nicola explains:
"We're so close. We have a 'Sisters Whatsapp' so we are always in constant contact with each other all the time and buy the same things."
Laura says:
"We've been approached by modelling scouts in shopping malls since we were about ten years old. "But we waited until we were sixteen years old when we were signed by a modelling agency. After that the work rolled in, we've done television shows, press calls, fashion shows. We even got to skip school for modelling shoots - it was great!"

Alleged budget padding: The lawmakers are thieves- Obasanjo says

Posted: 10 Aug 2016 09:37 AM PDT

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo today said the allegations of budget padding by Speaker Yakubu and thirteen other members of the House of Representatives shows that the lawmakers are thieves and have proven his comments in 2012 when he described the National Assembly as an institution filled with rogues and armed robbers. Speaking in a telephone interview with Premiumtimes, Obasanjo said President Buhari should not release funds for the constituency projects of the lawmakers.
"That is criminal and they should be held accountable for it. There should be a showdown between what is right and what is wrong. After such a showdown, what is right will definitely prevail and the criminals will be put to shame. They are the contractors, the jury, the judge and prosecutors.
They put the projects in the budgets and they do the projects by themselves or through contractors they nominate. Where is integrity? Where is honesty? Who supervises the job? Who ascertains that the job has been done? It is not in their place to execute projects. It is illegal. They are thieves. I have always held the view that they are thieves, can you all see it now?" he said

Baby defies the odds to emerge still in its amniotic sac (Photos & Video)

Posted: 10 Aug 2016 09:26 AM PDT

The odds are 1-80,000 but one little chap beat those long adds to be born inside its amniotic sac. The phenomenon called a 'caul birth' is incredibly rare, some babies are born with part of the membrane still attached to them, but to be born completely encased is a rarity.

Footage show the infant wriggling in its little, warm space. The phenomenon is believed by some to be a good omen for the child's infancy and unproven suggestions have it that caul babies will always have a natural affinity for water.

The amniotic sac is a thin but durable membrane filled with fluid which helps keep a baby warm and safe from bumps during pregnancy.

Those blaming PDP for the state of the nation are hypocrites- party caretaker committee chairman says

Posted: 10 Aug 2016 08:14 AM PDT

Chairman of PDP caretaker committee, Ahmed Makarfi, has said that those blaming PDP for the current state of the nation are being hypocrites. Makarfi said this while speaking during an interview with Channels TV this morning.
"When I look at those who blame our party I laugh. Most of them were only in PDP just before the election. They should rather say they are blaming themselves. If you have been in PDP sixteen years and then because you want to win election you jump ship and join another party and then start castigating This hypocracy in our politics will not take us anywhere. Yes we made our own mistakes but we also recorded successes" he said
Makarfi while speaking on the anti-corruption campaign of the Buhari-led government said:
"It is easier to point fingers of corruption at those who are not in power. If today the situation is reversed, those who fingers will be pointed at will be people who would have served in the APC administration and that is the unfortunate thing about third world politics that it is when you are not in power that in most cases that fingers will be pointed at you that you are corrupt. We should also acknowledge that for the first time, we have fingers pointed at the military who are not PDP or APC. W also have fingers pointed at the bureaucracy who are not in any particular party. For too long, We have assumed that it is only politicians that are corrupt"
When reminded that the commander in chief was the president and that the bureaucracy was under the President's watch, Makarfi said
"I agree. Who said that under the current watch, the bureaucracy or the military will not be corrupt? It is only when you leave office that people can now zero in and see what went wrong"
Asked if he is implying that PDP did not mastermind the decay of the Nigerian system, Makarfi said:
"Not at all. We recorded a lot of successes. I am acknowledging that we had faults.''

Graphic photos: Suspected militants disguised as mourners kill three soldiers in Nembe, Bayelsa

Posted: 10 Aug 2016 08:09 AM PDT

Suspected militants killed three soldiers and carted away arms and ammunition in an ambush in Nembe city, Nember Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, on Monday, August 8th.

The gunmen also made away with military gunboats, after they sacked the operatives of the JTF stationed at the checkpoint in the waterways of the state.

Reports have it that the militants disguised as mourners to deceive the security operatives before unleashing several gunshots on the unsuspecting officers, killing three instantly and injuring several others, including civilians. Many residents of the area are fleeing in fear of a reprisal attack by the military.
"The attack was deadly and well planned. Nobody had expected that such a thing would happen at such time when the jetties were busy with people preparing to go about their normal business activities," a resident told Thisday.
"I am sure even the soldiers did not expect such incident to happen at that time. Some persons who were already sailing out of Nembe said they saw the gunmen but dismissed  them as mourners because they were dressed in white robes", he said.
Joint Task Force JTF confirmed the attack, saying that gunmen believed to be militants at 10a.m, attacked 343 Artillery Regiment, a detachment of Operation Delta Safe deployed to Nembe Jetty in Bayelsa State. Acting Coordinator for the Joint Media Campaign, Centre, Lt Commander A Ahmed, said in a statement,
"During the incidence, three soldiers lost their lives. The Commander of Operation Delta Safe, Rear Admiral Joseph Okojie, has consequently deployed reinforcement to apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous crime. It should be noted that the attack by militants was as a result of the ongoing operations of the JTF aimed at flushing out all forms of criminality, especially pipeline vandalism and destruction of illegal refinery within the region."
Also, Bayelsa State deputy governor, Rear Admiral John Jonah, (retd), who visited the scene commiserated with the families of the slain soldiers and assured the authorities of the JTF of the state government's support towards apprehending their killers.
Chairman, Brass Local Government Area of the state, Bello Bina, described the killing as totally unwarranted and disheartening. A statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Saint Mienpamo, said that such malicious act was only painting the state and indeed the region in bad light.
"It is wicked for anybody to attack soldiers that are risking their lives to protect us. Such attacks are only sending a wrong signal to the rest of the world because they will continue to perceive us as a violent people. Of course you and I know the implication of this. "It is very difficult to see progress in a nation that is plagued with violence. Only peaceful nations make progress. So our youths must recognise this fact and refrain from violence,"

These photos above were posted by Sabo Agnes on Facebook yesterday.  She wrote:
"Why human beings are so heartless, this people are out to serve their father's land and protect law abiding citizen of this Nation. Why why why Nembe in BAYELSA STATE

Parents blast Iraqi government after 11 premature babies die from Hospital fire outbreak

Posted: 10 Aug 2016 08:04 AM PDT

At least 11 premature babies have been killed after fire engulfed a hospital in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, hospital and police officials say.
The fire which broke out late on Tuesday inside the maternity unit at the Yarmouk Hospital was extinguished after three hours, but that wasn't fast enough to save the 11 premature babies while 7 other children and 29 women had to be moved to nearby hospitals.
Their Ministry of Health has blamed an electrical fault for the calamity but that didn't stop family members who lost their children and loved ones from blasting the government.

Hussein Omar, a 30-year-old builder, told the Associated Press;
"I only found charred pieces of flesh, I want my baby boy and girl back. The government must give them back to me."
Eshrak Ahmed Jaasar, 41, who was unable to find her four-day-old nephew.
"I came early this morning to see my nephew and his mother, but they told me about the fire," she told AP. My nephew is still missing and his mother was moved to another hospital ward."
He added:
"We pay the hospital employees thousands of Iraqi dinars to allow us in to get our loved ones basic food and milk, which they cannot provide. It's a corrupt government that doesn't care about its citizens and lets this happen."
