LMAO! North Korea's internet is down. You go, USA! Posted: 22 Dec 2014 12:21 PM PST If you've been following the Sony, North Korea and the US government saga then you should know what this is about. But let me give a brief summary because I'm about to board a flight. Sony Pictures released a movie called The Interview, a comedy about a fictional assassination of North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un.. North Korean didn't find it funny and hacked into Sony's computers, rendering thousands of computers inoperable and forced Sony to take its entire computer network offline. That wasn't enough, they then threatened terror attack on US citizens if Sony doesn't cancel showing the movie, forcing Sony to pull the interview from theaters and losing almost $200m. Then the US govt got involved and told Sony to go ahead and release the movie, that they don't take lightly to threats and promised to retaliate for the attack on Sony. It looks like they've kept their to promise. North Korea is currently offline. Lol "Internet connectivity between North Korea and the outside world is currently suffering one of its worst outages in recent memory, suggesting that the country may be enduring a mass cyber attack a few days after President Obama warned the US would launch a "proportional response" to North Korea's hack against Sony North Korea, which has four official networks connecting the country to the Internet -- all of which route through China -- began experiencing intermittent problems yesterday and today went completely black, according to Doug Madory, director of Internet analysis at Dyn Research in Hanover, New Hampshire." Bloomberg reports.I find this so hilarious! Moral of the story, don't mess with the US. Will be MIA for a few hours... traveling out of the country. See you guys soon! |

Photo: Bomb attack foiled in Yobe state Posted: 22 Dec 2014 06:56 AM PST A statement from the Nigerian Police below... On December 16th at about 9:10am, military personnel on Stop and Search along Potiskum Road by Ashaka/Bajoga Junction intercepted one Honda Odyssey vehicle with registration number AT 670 DKA (Yobe) driven by a man later identified as Nuru Fika. The driver who claimed that the car was faulty requested the security personnel to assist him in pushing the car. But the driver was requested to open the booth for searching which he refused. The booth was forced opened and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) were discovered there in. The driver took to flight but was arrested after sustaining gunshot wound, he was pronounced dead at the Hospital. Police EOD team moved to the scene where ten (10) cylinders were recovered from different compartments of the vehicle, all recovered IEDs were safely detonated. State CID Gombe is investigating. |
Posted: 22 Dec 2014 06:33 AM PST Article written by Sujimoto... I braced myself for the worst owing to the unpleasant flight experience courtesy of a humid flight induced by the worn out aircraft to Kenya. I have never been in an aeroplane where I feel like I'm in a bakery in Badagry! For a second I thought I was in a flying "danfo" (commercial bus in Lagos), but arriving at the Kenyatta international airport blew my mind. Things started looking up. The efficiency of their immigration officials is truly commendable and I caught myself subconsciously comparing the airport and its services with some other international airports in Africa. As a critic of architectural mediocrity and a dividend of architectural slavery; believe me when I saythat the structural designs of the hotels there will astonish you. The Nigerian real estate industry has a lot to learn when compared to its Kenyan counterparts. Notably present is the large Indian community as a result of an en-masse migration that can be best explained by the fact that Kenya particularly Nairobi attracts top investors. The local Indians there would make you think you are in Mumbai! My stay at the DusitD2 Hotel was a fabulous experience. I was ready to brag about it later to my colleagues but kept my cool when I paid a visit to the Sankara Hotel. Permit me to say- " It is a sanctuary in the jungle". The service and meticulous decoration would give you the sensation that you are in the Dorchester in London. Words cannot justify the level of luxury that can be used to describe the TRIBE hotel owned by the iconic architect, Mehraz Ehsani. It is a haven that is cleverly themed with the rich and beautiful heritage of African art positioned within a range of 6sqm. I was able to count more than 920 art pieces. My tour guide; a close ally of the TRIBE is Mr Aram Laloui of ZANA; a company that would become our 'apple' in the nearest future. The leader of this company would tell you where the company is going. The zeal, diligence and passionate quality of this man will never let him down. My reason for being inNairobi was for the Forbes Africa Person Of The Yearaward, which was remarkably put together. The event was attended by over 100 captains of the industry from all over Africa. In attendance was the Managing Editor Forbes Africa; Chris Bishop, former Governor of Ekiti State; Otunba Niyi Adebayo, Chairman of CMA Investment Holding; Rakesh Wahi, Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development; Dr Akinwunmi Adesina not forgetting this year's recipient; the magnate himself Alhaji Aliko Dangote, looking distinguished in his bespoke outfit. I consider him to be the personification of humility accentuated by a very tranquil disposition but not underestimating the commanding aura his presence registers. The room knew that a lion had arrived . Dr. Niyi Adebayo; his best friend, conversed intermittently as I observed showing admirable camaraderie between them. Dangote's speech was designed into one thing and one-thing only; the freedom of African businesses and the need for Africans to rise up to their own potential. He emphasized on today's youths as the leaders tomorrow, but only if we stop the 'feeding-bottle' system of total dependence and start realizing that our future is in our own hands. The event was amazing and extremely vibrant. I felt exhilarated and overwhelmed not from stress but from the joy of being in the same room and interacting with the biggest names in the African economy. I made a rather bold move to ask Africa's god of business; Dangote, "How did you turn N500k to $22billion?" He said, "Hard work is the biggest enemy of failure. Success can never ignore you if you are hardworking." My mind would never stop laughing when I remember the quote by Dr Adesina (Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development) about the sustainability of oil and the need to start tapping into the most important part of African growth which is agriculture. He said, "...by the time we realize that we can't drink petrol and we can't smoke gas, we would wake up and tap the dividends of agriculture." After hotel shopping and the Forbes event, I'd by no means allow myself go back to Lagos without getting my view of the local developers. The were young and vibrant but a little laid back. I realized that most of the magnificent buildings were done by International citizens (Indians and South Africans), not local Kenyan workers. This upset me because it gives a negative buzz that Africans are not competent (which is a lie). From prehistoric times, Africans have made their mark when it comes to real estate. If you look at it from the time of Solomon (the first magnum real estate developer), you would appreciate the hard work and creativity of our African brothers. I cannot write this article without mentioning the good property along the Limuru road, which is a mixed material building, with a bridge, a swimming pool and a gym on the 7th floor. I was very impressed by the exterior. I visited the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trusts' Orphans' Project. It is a small ranch where orphaned animals are kept and taken care of. The experience was great as I got to see the true nature and beauty of these animals. I even adopted an elephant whilst I was there. They gave me the certification of adoption...guess what I called it..."Motophant". The night life in Kenya is one of the most attractive in Africa filled with vibrant young people who have obviously taken charge of their destiny. The athletic looking men and of course the 'coca-cola bottle' shaped ladies. If I wasn't married to SUJIMOTO CONSTRUCTION, Nairobi might be my next hunt destination. Ah! the taste of the local beer TUSKER reminds me of what Gulder tasted like in the 90s. Nairobi is a boisterous city with its great offers in hospitality and as the Kenyans say in their Kiswahili dialect "Kaka sawa sawa" (brother all is well). I dare say I fell in love with the country on this initial visit and will never stop promoting and believing in them. This wouldn't be complete without a shout out and best wishes to my driver Mr. Nelson who's wife coincidentally gave birth the same day I left Nairobi. They decided to call their baby boy Suji. I asked him why?? He replied, "because a stranger gave me hope" |

Nigeria's foreign reserve drops by $500million in the last one week Posted: 22 Dec 2014 05:25 AM PST Nigeria's foreign reserve has depreciated by $544million in the last one week. According to Daily Independent, figures posted on the website of the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN shows the nation's foreign reserves stood at $35,740,495,640 as at December 11, but fell to $35,196,352,296 as at last week, December 18. This fall in foreign reserves is coming despite the devaluation of Nigeria's Naira. According to the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, a large sum form the foreign reserves is being spent in defending the Naira from falling following its devaluation. According to the governor, "The CBN took the decision that it would be sub-optimal to continue to use up the country's reserves in defending the Naira. This decision was right because neither the Central Bank nor the Federal Government is in control of the major factors causing the depreciation of the nation's currency. In fact, the Russian Central Bank has abandoned its defence of the currency and allowed its depreciation, but only after it was said to have spent over $90 billion in defending the currency.". |

Photos: Another Florida police officer killed Posted: 22 Dec 2014 05:13 AM PST Charles Kondek (pictured left), a 45 year old police officer and a 17-year veteran of the local police department was shot and killed yesterday Dec. 21st in Tarpon Springs, Florida, by 23 year old Marco Antonio Parilla Jr (pictured right), a fugitive wanted for a parole violation. The married father of six was killed while responding to a noise complaint at an apartment complex. According to reports, Kondek arrived at the complex and saw Marco confronting another man with a gun in his waistline. When Marco spotted the officer, he immediately opened fire, killing the officer. Video: In 60 seconds, 4 families had the chance to pick from Jumia warehouse Posted: 22 Dec 2014 04:31 AM PST What would you do, if you had to choose from over 100,000 products in a 90,000 sqr feet warehouse, and you had just 60 seconds to do so? This past weekend, 4 lucky families that shopped in the Jumia Black Friday promotion got the opportunity to be fast and furious stars for a day in the Jumia "All You Can Grab" Warehouse run. As promised, 4 children from 4 families who shopped over N20,000 worth of products on Black Friday were given the opportunity to pick items from the Jumia warehouse, and whatever they succeeded in picking in 60 seconds was theirs to take home instantly, no strings attached. From, Play Station 4 consoles, bicycles, tablets, phones, home theatre systems, to toys and fashion items, the kids had their eyes for everything, and had tremendous fun while making their family members smile. When the clock drew to a stop, it was amazing all they had been able to grab and fit in their trolleys as their parents rallied, hugged and kissed them. Jonathan Doerr, MD Marketing, speaking after the event said, 'Even though I did not take part in the run myself I am still trying to catch my breath! Wow! It is really heartwarming seeing the wide smiles on the faces of the children who could not contain their joy as they seem to have received much more than they could have wished for Christmas. As we head into 2015, Customers of Jumia can expect even bigger initiatives and appreciation gestures from us as we continuously endeavor to put out customers first'. |

Read Peace Anyiam Osigwe's moving tribute to late brother who was shot dead by robbers Posted: 22 Dec 2014 04:03 AM PST In a moving tribute titled "Hw do you say goodbye to a brother", founder of AMAA Awards (African Movie Academy Awards), Peace Anyiam-Osigwe expressed deep sadness over the loss of her older brother, Micheal Anyiam-Osigwe who died of gunshot wounds in a robbery attack on Nov 29th along the Ore-Benin expressway. Below is her tribute to him which she shared at his funeral last week "When you are as close as we are as a family, it is not easy to think that you will not see one of you again. When our father traveled to a higher land being that E.O was my best friend, it was a lot easy because I had time to say goodbye but Micheal my brother gave me or anyone no time to say goodbye. But how do you say goodbye to a brother who was the epitome of peace. He cares for everyone and was always fussing over everyone of us. I have been blessed to have seven brothers all wonderful in their own ways but Micheal was truly special. The few months were trying period in my life but he stood by me never letting me go alone for any appointment. He never wanted m fighting anyone because he believed that life is a cycle. Micheal it is most painful that you died by a gunshot. This you didn't deserve. As your one and only sister, this is one thing I cannot bear. I don't think that I or many others whose life you touched in so many ways will ever be able to comprehend this nightmare that we are having right now. Micheal Nwannenya, it's amazing that papa allowed you to join him so soon but knowing you the way I do, I know that you save the world and not yourself. It has done on me each day I wake up that it is a reality Micheal, the Cerebral Genius, the caring understandable humble brother you can ever have is gone. As President of the Africa Film Academy which under your control as Coordinator General of the Anyiam Osigwe Foundation, we cannot bear this loss because you were very important in everything that concerns AMAA. Our loss is immense both as an organization and also personally as your wife Okiemute is our Accountant in AMAA. Micheal Anyioam-Osigwe, he walked with the poise of a leader. The embodiment of peace coupled with the eloquence of a true gentelman. He was the personification of genius. Like your father who was an extraordinary form of man, you understand where others were ignorant in the reality of the world. Micheal, you were, you are still and will forever remain one of the greatest to this country and the world at large. You have not left, you have transcended. Remember, character is personality. As I conclude, I want to ask my brother, President Goodluck Jonathan who has been a member of this family that for the sake of your brother Micheal Anyiam-Osigwe, do not let his death be in vain. This stretch of road between Okada and Benin have taken so many souls that did not need to be taken. Its frightening to also hear that the armed robbers were wearing DSS uniforms. I wonder what your service chiefs are doing to help travelers get rid of these men of the underworld. Please do the road for the sake of a man who is a global Ambassador of Nigeria". |
