| Jim Nwobodo disowns his three children from his first wife Posted: 09 Dec 2014 12:51 PM PST  The former Governor of the old Anambra State addressed journalists today in Enugu and accused two of his children (the ones he disowned today) Chukwudi and Nonso Nwobodo, of stealing the corpse of their older brother, Ifeanyi Nwobodo, who died in November after a battle with cancer Remember last week Jim Nwobodo refused for his 1st son to be buried inside his compound, insisting that he be buried outside. But his brothers refused and took his corpse away. Nwobodo addressed the problems he's having with his sons at his home today. Continue to read what he told journalists... "This is not really a very happy occasion for me – at my age, I should be talking about peace and not to get involved in something like this. Ifeanyi was my first son and unknown to us, myself and my wife, his family hid him.

| Democracy is not about quarreling like motor park touts – Jonathan Posted: 09 Dec 2014 11:40 AM PST  Jonathan made the call at the public presentation and official launch of the Kukah Centre, founded by prominent cleric and Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Rev. Fr. Matthew Kukah. Among other aims, the centre was established to strengthen national debate, improve governance and encourage Nigerians to take an active role in the country's leadership. Jonathan said that the nation's democracy should be deepened by robust debates, stimulation of innovative ideas and healthy engagements by all actors. "I call on everyone, the political class, our citizens and more importantly, the academic community to rise up to these challenges posed by this initiative (centre). "I think we are over defining our democracy today by quarreling as if democracy is about competitors quarreling just like motor park workers," he said.The president urged politicians to use the 2015 elections to renew their commitment to the country's unity. He said: "As elections draw close, I call on all politicians to see this as another opportunity for us to renew our commitment to deepen our democracy and strengthen our bond of unity. "Democracy is not about political parties and politicians alone, it is not just about winning or losing elections; it is about freedom, about development and above all a forward march of our civilisation and encouragement of creativity. "It is in this regard that we must seek to identify and support the growth of structures and institutions that will help strengthen our democracy to meet our aspirations as a people."Jonathan noted that policy research institutes like the Kukah Centre had been pivotal to the social economic transformation of leading countries of the world. According to him, such centres have served as the laboratories of the development, inter-relation and the refinement of key government policies. He likened the Kukah Center to the Brooklyn Institute in America, which pioneered fact-based studies of government policies, using science as a key to analysis. The president then challenged Nigerian politicians to draw inspiration from it. "I'm personally convinced that the centre could not have finer mentor than the revered gentleman of long patriotic standing, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah," he added.The centre also aims at promoting conversations among Nigeria's faith communities, as well as between leaders in faith and public policy. | FG Suspends Niger State Prisons Boss Over Jailbreak Posted: 09 Dec 2014 08:02 AM PST  According to a statement by the National Public Relations Officer, Nigerian Prisons Service, Mr Ope Fatinikun, the suspension of the officers was based on recommendations by the new Prison's Comptroller General, Dr Peter Ekpendu. The Comptroller General had recommended the immediate removal and suspension of the officers present at the Maximum Security prison during the jailbreak pending the outcome of investigations. The statement stated that the incident was a jailbreak and not a terrorist attack as was widely speculated in some quarters. It also stated that 108 of the inmates who escaped have been recaptured and that a total of 166 is still at large. | ||||||

| Obasanjo launches his autobiography, says late Yar'Adua lied to him about his health Posted: 09 Dec 2014 05:42 AM PST   "As can be expected, I was heavily involved in the transition and exit process that saw me leaving office for my successor, Umaru Yar'Adua, as recounted in Chapter Thirty-seven, the ninth chapter of the second volume of this book. The unprepared and unplanned transition from Yar'Adua to Jonathan was a more difficult exercise in some respects. One reason was the 'cloak and dagger' manner in which Yar'Adua's illness was handled. The illness of a President cannot be regarded as private. His health has implications for the security and wellbeing of the nation. For the president and those around him to have attempted strenuously to keep the fact of the severity of his illness from public smacks of ignorance of the enormity of what the job entails and the level of provinciality of their understanding, attitude, and approach. I remember that in 1978 or 1979 Chief Awolowo visited me while I was military head of state and shared with me how he would always stay at home to attend to the work at hand and only make a private visit to the UK once a year for health reasons if he became president of Nigeria. I made it clear to the chief that once he became president of Nigeria, he could have no private visit to anywhere as such. Wherever he would be, he would be on duty, and the totality of his life would be public. I jokingly added that the only privacy he might lay claim to would be when he was at home with Mama Chief H.I.D., and that even then his security staff would be on twenty-four-hour duty."The launch of the three volume book was stopped by a court injunction secured by a former friend of Obasanjo, Prince Buruji Kashamuon on Friday December 5th but lawyers to Chief Obasanjo advised him to go ahead with the launch.
