After 12 productive years, Abike Dabiri-Erewa bows out gracefully

Posted: 06 Dec 2014 12:47 PM PST

When the Lower House of the National Assembly House opens for business in the next dispensation, one of its most vociferous voices and most influential personalities will be missing from the crowd.

After spending 12 productive years in the House of Representatives, Hon. Abike Kafayat Oluwatoyin Dabiri-Erewa has decided to gracefully bows out, as she will not be returning to the House ..

Dabiri-Erewa, who has served for an impressively long period shows her distaste for political sit-tight syndrome, distinguishes herself as a virtuous woman and a respected government functionary as she vacates her sit for other potentials to take the reins.

Having paid her dues, Hon. Abike believes it is time to give other people the opportunity to serve their people.

Dabiri-Erewa, 52, is a third term member of the House of Representatives at the National Assembly. This confers on her, the status of the most prominent female politician in Lagos State, and one of the most prominent politicians in Nigeria today. There is no doubting the fact that Dabiri-Erewa has paid her dues, proven her worth and done Nigeria proud. She is charismatic, cosmopolitan, polished and eloquent. And she is one of the few Nigerians with acceptable global presence. As the Chairman, House Committee on Diaspora Affair, Dabiri-Erewa is known to have the widest network of Nigerians in the diaspora.

Dabiri-Erewa fondly called "Mother Teresa of the tube" prides herself in her outstanding career as a broadcaster. She spent 15 years of distinguished and meritorious service at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA). While in NTA she gained a strong understanding of the industry because of her dedication, inquisitiveness and professionalism. She anchored the weekly NTA Newsline programme to the delight of millions of Nigerians, irrespective of their tribe or religion. Dabiri-Erewa wormed her way into the hearts of many with her gallantry efforts of using television as an effective tool to draw attention to the millions of Nigerians suffering from the pains of poverty and injustice.

Her commitment and passionate dedication to duty while working on several heart touching Newsline stories stood her out and endeared her to many. Her display of bravery while investigating the story of little Mary, the miracle baby for eight years, remains indelible in the minds of many Nigerians.
A firm believer in the importance of service to humanity, Dabiri-Erewa voluntarily retired from the services of the NTA to contest as a member of the House of Representative and swept the poll with a landslide victory in 2003. Ever since then, she has distinguished herself by working tirelessly. Dabiri-Erewa undertakes a lot of important bills, defends the interest of her party most vociferously and has a strong passion for service.

A wife and mother of two, she has continued to play her motherly role in her constituency, Lagos, Nigeria and APC. Her constituency benefited from several projects implemented under her leaderahip which includes free eye test and cataract surgery, empowerment programs, cash donation to widows, water schemes, boreholes, electrification, training scholarship scheme for indigent youths and better health care services. Her achievements and qualities are indeed worthy of emulation. The sterling amazon builds her principles on the unwavering philosophy that success is not about age, it is not about character, it is not about how much you have in your account but how many lives you touch.

Pics: Mum shocks midwives as she gives birth to 14pound baby girl

Posted: 06 Dec 2014 12:37 PM PST

How did a baby this big come out of a woman's vagina? Wow! According to the UK Daily Mail, a pregnant mother who thought she was expecting a small seven pound baby ended up giving birth to a daughter who tipped the scales at huge 14 pounds.

Alisha Hernandez of Alamosa in southern Colarado went into labor on Monday and gave birth to Mia Yasmin Garcia by caesarean section at the San Luis Valley Hospital. But Miss Hernandez and midwives who helped deliver the baby were shocked when baby Mia arrived looking a lot larger than they first thought she would be.

And after being weighed it was revealed that the newborn tipped the scales at 13 pounds, 13 ounces and measuring 22 inches long.

Her father Francisco Garcia told 9News: 'They're all shocked that they're seeing a baby like that. Even in the San Luis Valley, they were like whoa! They opened their eyes like they've never seen a baby like that.

Mr Garcia explained that all of the couple's other children were all born at normal weights and even the combined weight of their twins at birth was lower than Mia.
He also added that the newborn would be the couple's last child together, even though they had 'tried their best' to have a boy.

Shortly after her birth, baby Mia was flown to a Denver-area hospital after suffering from low glucose levels and having trouble breathing.

But doctors hope she can join her parents and four older sisters Britney, Ximena, Yulissa and Yuliana at home within the next week.

Anyway, Chris blacked out on Karrueche last night at the Power 106 Cali Christmas concert in LA. He told the audience that he was a single man again. My relationship with Fashola is intact - Bola Tinubu writes

Posted: 06 Dec 2014 10:50 AM PST

Below is a press statement from the office of former Lagos state governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu...
For a while now, I have noticed and read many published political stories on Lagos politics in particular and the personalities involved that are either concerted, unsubstantiated, pure conjectures or outright falsehood. In this instance, I reference a recent story ran by a major newspaper concerning my successor and me. There is no doubt political charlatans and enemies are at work fueling unnecessary rumour and insinuations and seeking to drive a wedge in an otherwise cordial and respectful political relationship. My relationship with Governor Fashola remains cordial both at the personal level and at the level of commitment to ensuring Lagos State remains on the path of political stability, growth and development.

Whether Governor Fashola had a specific candidate or not isn't the issue here. What is important is to have a transparent process in the spirit of democracy to which we both subscribe.  We often debate, agree or  disagree. But when it comes to concluding on the interest of Lagos State, we are on the same page. The current situation and issues around the Lagos Gubernatorial primary are being overblown. What we have done is ensure that no one is denied his or her rights to participate and compete for any elective position. Such a disposition should not translate into anger and divisiveness of the party as it is being peddled. Conflicts and disagreements is part of every political process. The capacity to solve these conflicts in-house and not on the pages of newspaper is a tradition in Lagos.

We warn the people of Lagos state against speculative, self-serving stories aimed at destabilizing the party and its leadership. The media must be weary of accepting or publishing stories that seek to pursue a narrow political agenda. Rather, they should make their paper a platform for proper news dissemination and constructive analysis such that can help our country tackle the current security problem, create jobs.

While we appreciate, recognize and respect the right of every media house to publish any story, it is important not to be part of the feeding frenzy and not to mislead the unsuspecting public.

At my age and with my level of political experience, I am expected to seek for solutions, work for reconciliations and find a common ground where disagreements exist. That is what I have dedicated myself to in the larger interest of Lagos State and Nigeria at large. That is what Governor Babatunde Fashola and myself are about. That is what Lagos state deserves as Nigeria's pacesetter in terms of democracy and development.

Ghanaian pastor kicks & steps on the stomach of a pregnant woman

Posted: 06 Dec 2014 07:53 AM PST

The founder of Ghana-based International God's Way Church, a man that goes by the name pastor Daniel Obinim is in trouble once again after a video of him stepping and kicking the stomach of a pregnant woman in his church surfaced this week.

The video shows the man speaking in tongues as he kicks the woman said to be suffering some kind of ailment...he was trying to cure of it. Imagine! This is the same pastor who was arrested & charged for using offensive weapons on his congregation and at one time was accused and charged for sleeping with one of his pastor's wife.

Daniel Obimin has been described as a false prophet by so many people but this hasn't stopped his follower from following blindly. See the video after the cut...and cringe...

South African and American hostages murdered in Yemen

Posted: 06 Dec 2014 06:18 AM PST

A British-born American photojournalist and a South African teacher held by Al-Qaeda militants in Yemen were killed today during a failed U.S.-led rescue attempt. The raid was ordered by President Barack Obama because he feared imminent danger to the reporter.

Al-Qaeda had initially posted a video online threatening to kill photographer Luke Somers (pictured above). American forces in conjunction with Yemeni ground troops then launched a second rescue attempt.

The South African, Pieree Korkie was supposed to be released tomorrow December 7. The aid group helping to negotiate his release even told his wife; "The wait is almost over."

Both Somers and Korkie "were murdered by the AQAP terrorists during the course of the operation,"

In a statement, President Obama did not address Korkie by name, only saying he "authorized the rescue of any other hostages held in the same location as Luke." The South African government did not immediately comment on Korkie's death.

'Shade, why don't they use guys too for these rituals? It's not fair naa. Why only girls?'
'Valerie, are you that dumb? How many guys do you see standing by the roadside waiting for a free ride? Guys are smarter than us. Na our long throat dem take dey catch us.'

'Shade, I don't think our friend Nkem can ever stop chasing after politicians oo. She has become addicted to their groove. I heard her talking about the things they do every night, I was so shocked and didn't know my mouth was hanging wide open. That girl knows all the classy and coded joints in this town. Even the local nkwobi and isiewu joints too.'

'Leave that one, let her continue. Na that nkwobi dem go take finish her. Shebi if dem finish the nkwobi wey dey for plate, dem go enter the one wey dey inside her cloth?'

'YAAAAY!!! That's my girl. I am so happy for you dear. Abeg ask whether im get any friend? Me sef want a new car oo. My dear, it is so sweet to be a female celeb in naija mehn. We are the chosen ones.'
'Shade abeg I'm cutting this call jare, it's almost 6am and I haven't even slept since I got back. Don't forget that our flight is for 9am.'

'Valerie, what's that sound I have been hearing since?'

'Don't mind my yeye husband, snoring like a trailer with a broken exhaust pipe. Let me even wake up the mumu to go and do his morning chores.'

'Alfred! Alfred! ALFREDDDD!!! Wake up. My God, What kind of a lazy man did I marry ehn? It is already 6am and he is still sleeping like an idiot. Look at how he is staining my pillows with saliva. Alfred, will you get your useless and lazy ass off my bed? Ok, you don't want to wake up abi? You are pretending that you can't hear me bah? What is all this ehn? Now I have woken my princess because I am trying to wake this useless thing I call a husband. Awww my coochi coochi, come here princess. Come and give mummy a kiss. How are you? Did you sleep well?'
'Yes mummy, I slept well.'
'Awww, that's my coochi coochi love. Go back to your room sweerie. Uncle Alfred is coming to bathe you now.'
'Ok mummy. But please take it easy on Uncle Alfred. I think he is very tired. He worked all through the night. He did the dishes and scrubbed the kitchen floor. He also washed all the toilets in the house and cooked spaghetti for me.'
'Did he help you with your homework?'
'Yes mummy. That was when he said you went out again with that man that I don't like. Mummy I want to poo poo.'
'JESUS!!! Alfred, if I count to three and you are still lying there, well, you already know what I will do to you.'
'Pour water on my face, isn't that what you always do? You this woman sef, your wahala is becoming too much. You better stop acting those local movies because you are becoming as crazy as the characters you play.'
'Come on, shut up your dirty mouth. I should quit acting the same movies that put food on the table right? Have you brought a penny to this house since I married you? All you do is wake up, eat, shit and drive my car to gossip with your fellow Lekki husband friends and come back here snoring like a camel at night. Hope you replaced the fuel you used yesterday because I am getting tired of spending my hard-earned money on your lazy ass.'

Honey, what do you mean that all I do is eat, sleep and shit? Don't I wash the cars every morning? Don't I also loosen your braids? Why are you lying that I haven't spent a dime on you since you married me? Didn't I buy you a handkerchief last week? Why are you talking to me this way? Is it because I lost my job before you married me? Is this how other female celebs talk to their men?'
'Since when did you become a man? The only time you are a man is at night when you want sex. Mscheew. Man ko, mango ni. For your information, other female celebs treat their men like the crap that they are. You should thank your stars I have a better heart. Ask your friend Gbenga, let him tell you how he was washing shit off his wife boyfriend's car tyres the last time I was at their house.'
'Mummy, Uncle Alfred, I want to poo poo naa.'

'Awww coochi coochi, I'm so sorry. Oya Alfred take her to poo poo. Make sure you bathe her properly and get her ready on time. Her piano teacher will soon be here. Alfred, come back here when you are done. I was told you brought that stupid friend of yours into my house yesterday.'
'Which stupid friend?'
'The light skin radio presenter who does the evening show on that Cool station on the island.'
'Honey can I turn off the AC before I freeze?'
'Shut up Alfred, stop acting like you don't know who I'm talking about. That presenter they say beats up his wife all the time, the one that even his colleagues at the radio station don't like; the one that musicians complain about.'

'Honey he is not my friend oo. How can you call him my friend? Is it because he is also a Lekki husband? Must I be friends to all Lekki husbands? If you are mistaking him for my friend Femi, Femi is not an albino. Besides, none of my friends is a wife beater.' 'I hear you. Oya, come and help me with this dress. Can you imagine I am going late for my own movie premiere?'

'Honey, are you not going to wear a bra? Don't you think this your blue dress is too revealing?'
'Alfred, stop asking stupid questions and pull up the damn dress. Didn't I tell you that my movie premiere is at the Presidential Villa? And you want me to wear a bra?'
'Ehen? Are you going to premiere your movie or yourself?'
'Alfred please, I am not in the mood for your meaningless talks. Just shut up ok? How do you think I put food on the table? Has it ever occurred to you to ask how I bought the cars you drive? Do you think any female celebrity can achieve anything in this country by wearing bra? Help me bring my phone joo, that must be Shade. I'm off but I will be back in Lagos with the last flight. Me and my girls are hanging out here in Lagos tonight. Hey Alfred, before I forget, when Princess is asleep, I need you to rush down to "The Palms" and buy a pack of boxers for that my dark man-friend. His birthday is tomorrow.'
'Honey what is his waist size?'
'Alfred, please be smart for once. You are asking me this stupid question as if you haven't met him before. Ok, he's your size. If that's what you want to hear. Please take very good care of my Princess. And don't let me look for you when I get back. Do you hear me? Alfred, are you deaf? I say don't let me look for you when I am back.'
'Ahan naa honey, I have heard you.'

Mario Balotelli charged by English FA over 'racist' instagram post

Posted: 06 Dec 2014 02:25 AM PST

Is what he posted (left) racist though? English FA seem to think so. Liver Pool striker striker Mario Balotelli has been charged by the Football Association for posting an image of the Nintendo character, Super Mario on instagram and writing "jumps like a black man and grabs coins like a jew"
Just a few hours after Balotelli posted it on December 1, many people said they found it offensive and accused him of Racism and Antisemitism.
Balotelli deleted the image after it caused a lot of controversy, denied the accusations of racism and then issued an apology on Facebook to people who found the pic offensive...

Despite the public apology, the FA still charged him.
Ballotelli submitted his observation of the post to the FA committee yesterday Dec. 5th, stating he had no intention of being racial with the photo and that he has also been a victim of racial attacks before. He was subsequently charged under rule E3, which cites as "aggravating factors" references to ethnic origin, colour, race, nationality, faith, gender, sexual orientation or disability.
The FA in its charge said "It is alleged the Liverpool player breached FA Rule E3 (1) in that his posting was abusive and/or insulting and/or improper. It is further alleged that this is an 'Aggravated Breach' as defined by FA Rule E3[2] as it included a reference to ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race and/or nationality and/or religion or belief. The player has until 6pm on 15 December 2014 to respond to the charge."

Or maybe they're not kissing but whispering something into each others ears? That looks like kissing to me though...lol. The country singer turned pop singer was photographed making out with her bff Victoria Secret model, Karlie Kloss at a concert in New York on Thursday December 4th.

In the photos, Taylor and Karlie cuddled close to each other on a balcony as they enjoyed indie rock band The 1975's show in NYC before turning to each other to smooch for a few seconds. Someone took a pic and shared it online.

Taylor's management has since laughed off the lesbian report...but knowing Hollywood...o possible!
