Boko Haram gunned down 97 people praying in mosques during Ramadan

Posted: 02 Jul 2015 01:08 PM PDT

According to a report by AFP, Boko Haram extremists gunned down nearly 100 Muslims praying in mosques in the northeast during the holy month of Ramadan. Read below...
The attack Wednesday night on the town of Kukawa came the day after the Islamic extremist group attacked a village 35 kilometers (22 miles) away and killed another 48 men and boys, according to witnesses who counted the dead.
The people of Kukawa were in several mosques, praying ahead of breaking their daylong fast, when the extremists attacked. They killed 97 people, mainly men, said self-defense spokesman Abbas Gava and a senior government official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to give information to reporters.
Gava said his group's fighters in Kukawa said some militants also broke into people's homes, killing women and children as they prepared the evening meal.

Kukawa is 180 kilometers (110 miles) northeast of Maiduguri, the biggest city in northeast Nigeria and the birthplace of Boko Haram.

Nigeria's homegrown extremist group often defiles mosques where it believes clerics espouse too moderate a form of Islam. Wednesday's attack follows a directive from the Islamic State group for fighters to increase attacks during Ramadan. Boko Haram this year became the IS group's West African franchise.

On Tuesday night, the extremists invaded the village of Mussaram, ordered men and women to separate and then opened fire on the men and boys, witnesses said.

"A total of 48 males died on the spot while 17 others escaped with serious injuries," said Maidugu Bida, a self-defense official? based in nearby Monguno who helped bury the dead.

On Monday, two suicide bombers blew themselves up prematurely in a village outside Maiduguri just an hour before the arrival of Nigeria's Vice President Yemi Osinbanjo. He visited some of the hundreds of thousands of people displaced by the 5-year-old Islamic uprising that has killed more than 13,000 people and driven 1.5 million from their homes.

Some of those killed in attacks in the past month had only just returned to rebuild towns and villages recaptured this year from Boko Haram by a multinational army.

US man applies to marry a second wife following legalization of gay marriage

Posted: 02 Jul 2015 12:39 PM PDT

Well, in Nigeria, you can marry more than one wife, but not in the US. All 50 states outlaws bigamy and holding multiple marriage licenses. But following last week's U.S. Supreme Court decision legalizing gay marriage, a Montana man said yesterday that he will apply for a marriage license so that he can legally wed his second wife.

Nathan Collier and his wives Victoria and Christine applied at the Yellowstone County Courthouse in Billings on Tuesday in an attempt to legitimize their polygamous marriage. Collier said he plans to sue if the application is denied.

"It's about marriage equality," Collier told The Associated Press Wednesday. "You can't have this without polygamy."

County clerk officials initially denied Collier's application, then said they would consult with the county attorney's office before giving him a final answer, Collier said.

Yellowstone County chief civil litigator Kevin Gillen said he is reviewing Montana's bigamy laws and expected to send a formal response to Collier by next week.
"I think he deserves an answer," Gillen said, but added his review is finding that "the law simply doesn't provide for that yet."

The Supreme Court's ruling on Friday made gay marriages legal nationwide. Chief Justice John Roberts said in his dissent that people in polygamous relationships could make the same legal argument that not having the opportunity to marry disrespects and subordinates them.

Collier, 46, said that dissent inspired him. He owns a refrigeration business in Billings and married Victoria, 40, in 2000. He and his second wife, Christine, had a religious wedding ceremony in 2007 but did not sign a marriage license to avoid bigamy charges, he said.

Collier said he is a former Mormon who was excommunicated for polygamy and now belongs to no religious organization. He said he and his wives hid their relationship for years, but became tired of hiding and went public by appearing on the reality cable television show "Sister Wives."

The three have seven children of their own and from previous relationships.
"My second wife Christine, who I'm not legally married to, she's put up with my crap for a lot of years. She deserves legitimacy," he said.

Collier said he sent an email asking the ACLU of Montana to represent him in a possible lawsuit. ACLU legal director Jim Taylor said he has not seen the request.

Taylor said he has no opinion on Collier's claims, though the Supreme Court decision on gay marriage "is about something very different."

Anne Wilde, a co-founder of the polygamy advocacy organization Principle Voices located in Utah, said Collier's application is the first she's heard of in the nation, and that most polygamous families in Utah are not seeking the right to have multiple marriage licenses.
"Ninety percent or more of the fundamentalist Mormons don't want it legalized, they want it decriminalized," Wilde said.

A federal judge struck down parts of Utah's anti-polygamy law two years ago, saying the law violated religious freedom by prohibiting cohabitation. Bigamy is still illegal.

The state has appealed the ruling, and the case is pending in the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Wilde said most polygamous families are satisfied with the judge's ruling and believe taking it further to include multiple marriage licenses would bring them under the unwanted jurisdiction of the government.
But she said the Supreme Court's decision on gay marriage should strengthen their chance of winning the appeal.

"We hope the Supreme Court decision will show the direction the nation is going," she said. "It's more liberal, it's more understanding about people forming the families the way they want."

Photos: EFCC returns €10,000 euros to french victim of love scam

Posted: 02 Jul 2015 09:27 AM PDT

Find the EFCC press statement below
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has recovered and returned the sum of 10,000 Euros (Ten Thousand Euros) about Two Million, Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira), to F. Mercade, a French citizen, who was victim of internet love scam.
The fund was wired to the victim through his account in France on the recommendation of the French Embassy in Nigeria.
Roger Balima, French Police Liaison Officer who confirmed the receipt of the funds by the victim, thanked the EFCC "for the good job."

Mercade was duped by two internet fraudsters, Omodara Adedapo Oluseye and Adesuyi Ayodeji Adedapo after he was deceived into a phantom relationship that was supposedly alter-bound.
The scam was reported to the Commission via a petition from the French Consulate in Lagos, on behalf of Mercade.

The petitioner alleged that he met a Nigerian beauty by name, 'Kate Williams' on the internet sometime in 2009 and they developed a relationship which was to culminate in marriage.
'Williams' was to relocate to join Mercade in France, to consummate the relationship.

While Mercade planned the logistics of the relocation, 'Williams' who purportedly did some jobs for an unnamed company in Nigeria, came up with a story that the company refused to pay 'her' for job done. 'She' sought the assistance of Mercade and the 'couple' contacted a lawyer named 'James Robert', to procure traveling documents and also help her claim money from the company owing her.
Mercade parted with the sum of 25,000.00 Euros, through Western Union, in processing his brides' passage with no bride in sight. Eventually, it dawned on him that he had been scammed.

Investigations into the matter by the Commission revealed that 'Kate Williams' is the pseudonym of Omodara Adedapo Oluseye, a male student of the College of Agriculture, Akure, who, however, resides in Ibadan Oyo state.

Omodara's accomplice, Adesuyi Ayodeji Adedapo, assisted in collecting the money transferred by the victim from the Akure, Ondo State branch of a new generation bank, using forged drivers' license.

The duo were prosecuted on a two count charge  of conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretences before a Federal High Court Lagos, convicted and sentenced on 13th June 2011, to one year imprisonment each without an option of fine.

Photos: Iphone case that looks like a hand gun now being sold

Posted: 02 Jul 2015 09:26 AM PDT

Black men in the US better stay away from this phone case...police can mistake it for a gun. If they are being shot unarmed, imagine if a police officer saw this. The controversial new phone case which is shaped like a handgun is now being sold on Amazon for $10 and critics are calling it a 'deathtrap'. In fact, NYPD is begging people not to buy the case to avoid issues with police ...

Retired New Jersey state trooper and firearms instructor Al Della Fave told CNN Money:
"Most kids carry their cellphone in their back pocket and if someone reaches for it, in my mind they're reaching for a gun. The first thing they're going to see as it's coming up is the trigger guard and the butt of the gun. This doesn't seem like a good idea at all to me."

Dogara and his loyalist plan to defect to PDP- Femi Gbajabiamila

Posted: 02 Jul 2015 08:40 AM PDT

Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila claims the speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara and his loyalists in the House are planning to defect to the opposition party, PDP. According to The Cable, he made the claims while speaking at a meeting with President Buhari and Vice Presient Osinbajo at the Presidential villa yesterday July 1st

"The conduct of the 39 APC members colluding with the PDP is tantamount to affront, ultimately targeted at polarising our party so as to give room for many of them to decamp to the PDP. The 39 APC members in the house continue to collude with the PDP to flagrantly disobey Mr. President, the governors and the party with a view to bringing the party and government to ridicule before Nigerians. It is therefore imperative for Mr. President to take a stand and save the integrity of the party, by cautioning, the 39 members, which include the speaker and the deputy speaker, to respect, honour and obey our party leaders and their directives.
The party has chosen not to punish the 39 APC members including the elected speaker and deputy speaker, but chose to direct, as it is customary and conventional, on how the other four (4) principal officers should be distributed. Alas! The opposition and the 39 members continue to hold the ruling party in contempt by disobeying the party.
Whereas, the beneficiaries of the disobedience are citing federal character principle as the main reason for their disobedience. The house of representatives is not an agency of the federal government and the principal officers positions are elective and not by appointment. If the federal character is applicable to the national assembly, then both the senate president and the speaker cannot come from the north, one of them should be advised to step down."he said

There had been speculations about reasons Adams left his wife, Ashley, before Adams finally decided to open up. This so-called sauce was always either tasteless or over seasoned. He had made several attempts to teach her how to cook, but all were futile, as she was adamant. Adams decided, by the fifth year, to end his misery by leaving her!
