Probe: FG’s selective, playing to the gallery – Fayose Posted: 24 Jul 2015 12:30 PM PDT Read the press statement below... Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has said announcements in the media by the President Mohammadu Buhari led All Progressives Congress (APC) Federal Government that the immediate past Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government of Dr Goodluck Jonathan will be probed was mere "playing to the gallery," noting that "there is no need announcing the intended probe in the media. Rather, the Federal Government should just go ahead and carry out the probe. The governor, who also counselled the Buhari-led government not to embark on selective probe, added that; "From all indications, it is obvious that the probe they are talking about is targeted at some people and if activities of anti-graft agencies during the tenure of President Buhari are going to be selective, the president should know that the world is watching." In a release issued in Ado Ekiti by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said the consequences of Dr Goodluck Jonathan's conducting a credible election and handing over power to the winner should not be witch-hunt as obviously being done by the federal government. "Nigerians should not be probed on the pages of newspapers. Rather, the anti-graft agencies should do their jobs quietly, diligently and in accordance with the laws of the country, not as dictated by any individual or political party," Fayose said. The governor noted that; "If there must be any probe, Nigerians want a general probe, not a probe targeted only at PDP supporters, those who served in Jonathan's government and those seen as not agreeing with the APC positions on the National Assembly. "However, if what they believed should be done is a selective probe, those holding power in Abuja now should know that what goes round will surely come round and it is just a matter of time." Speaking further, Governor Fayose urged President Buhari to pay more attention to governance, especially the Boko Haram insurgency that has come back strongly taking control of five Local Government Areas in the North East, the rising exchange rates of Dollar; Pound Sterling; Euro and other foreign currencies and most importantly, he be guided by the rule of law. "This is because four years is a very short period and time is already going. Before you sleep and wakeup, four years will be gone and Nigerians will rate the government based on how well the government bettered their lives, not how many perceived enemies were hunted with anti-graft agencies, he said." He noted that God was already vindicating Dr Jonathan by elevating those who worked with him, saying; "As opposition party, APC disparaged Jonathan and those who worked with him. Now that the party is in power, they are still doing the same, behaving as if the party is still in opposition. "Ironically, the same people the APC vilified are being elevated at the world stage. Dr Akinwumi Adesina, who served a Jonathan's Minister of Agriculture, is now the African Development Bank (ADB) president while Arunma Oteh, who was the Director-General of the Security Exchange Commission (SEC) under Jonathan is reported to have been appointed as the World Bank Vice-President and Treasurer."

Burundi's President Nkurunziza wins controversial 3rd term Posted: 24 Jul 2015 10:04 AM PDT Burundi's President Pierre Nkurunziza has won the controversial 3rd term. The country's electoral commission says he got nearly 70% of votes in Tuesday's poll following an election marred by violence and a boycott by the opposition. Nkrunziza's nearest rival, Agathon Rwasa, took 18.99%. The president's decision in April to seek a third term had plunged the country into chaos, with many taking to the streets to protest. There was even an unsuccessful coup. Opposition say they won't accept the election result because Nkurunziza's 3rd term bid violated their constitution.
Jumia Shares Love in Kano for Eid-ul-Fitr Posted: 24 Jul 2015 09:55 AM PDT The essence of living, they say, is giving and every season comes with its own meaning. Ramadan, for one, brings with it an atmosphere of giving and sharing and it is in this spirit we at Jumia made our way from Lagos to Kano, simply to put a smile on children's faces. The Jumia 'Share Love on Ramadan' is a love-inspired cause to improve the quality of lives of orphans in the Northern region of Nigeria. This led to the interesting discovery of the Nasarawa Children's home. After putting a call through to find out what their needs were, we speedily took to work. A heavily subsidized Ramadan store was created on the Jumia website for Nigerians to also partake in this life-changing experience. It was a tremendous success as hundreds of items were amassed in our warehouse and shipped from Lagos to Kano to arrive on Friday morning at the children's home in Kano with items ranging from a 7.5kg washing machine to clothing items, toys, shoes and many other precious gifts. It was a dream come true for the Nasarawa Children's Home as our dispatch offloaded the many gifts we got for them at their premises on Friday, 17th of July, 2015. The excitement we met was nothing compared to what we envisaged when we decided to make the trip to Kano. We had a wonderful celebration at the Children's Home and all kids joyfully participated in all the fun games including the dance and singing competitions with winners going home with prizes for a beautiful Eid-ul-Fitr. We thank each and every one of our customers who purchased items from the Ramadan store to have made it possible for us to share love this Ramadan and remind ourselves of the joy and fulfilment that comes with giving. He's that popular now? Future shut down by police after mobs of his fans take over downtown LA Posted: 24 Jul 2015 09:54 AM PDT The power of the media - and thrashing your famous baby mama in interviews. Rapper Future was shut down by police after mobs of his fans took over downtown LA… From KTLA Law enforcement officials responded to three L.A. nightclubs Thursday when large crowds gathered to see the rapper Future, prompting the cancellation of two free concerts in West Hollywood and two partial closures of Sunset Boulevard. The first 800 people in line were guaranteed entrance to the House of Blues, according to an Instagram post from the rapper, but sheriff's officials at the scene said some 1,200 people showed up. Within 30 minutes crowds had formed in front of the House of Blues and dozens of law enforcement vehicles took formation, blocking the street. About two blocks of Sunset Boulevard was closed in front of the House of Blues between North La Cienega Boulevard and North Kings Road around 10:30 p.m., Sky5 aerials showed.

MEND meeting not to restart hostilities in the Niger Delta - Tompolo Posted: 24 Jul 2015 09:28 AM PDT The leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), Chief Government Ekpemupolo (aka Tompolo) says the Saturday July 25th meeting of the militant group in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state is not in any way meant to restart hostilities in the Niger Delta. The ex militant clarified this in a statement he released today. The statement below... "I am compelled to clarify issues as they relate to the meeting of the leadership of ex-agitators under the platform of MEND and other organisations summoned at my instance. The tension generated by the meeting is uncalled for, diversionary and mischievous as no evil is intended in whatever form. The nation would recall that in the build up to the Amnesty offer of the late president, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, there was hesitance on the part of most of Niger Delta agitators until God in His infinite mercy, granted me wisdom to provide leadership. The nation will also recall that under the Amnesty programme as inherited by the immediate past president, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, relative peace was enjoyed even as security of lives and property was enhanced to an appreciable level. Also, oil production increased from 700,000 barrels per day to 2.5million barrels per day. Put simply, hitherto aggrieved Niger-Delta youths who inadvertently became agitators, upon the acceptance of the Amnesty offer, refrained from armed agitation to face normal urban life. While some of us understand to an extent, the apparent delay in the continued payment of the monthly stipend to the ex-agitators in view of the seeming scrutiny of government agencies, including the Amnesty Office by the current administration, same cannot be said of the majority of beneficiaries of the Amnesty programme. To this extent, some of us, particularly myself and other leaders have been under intense pressure from ex-agitators commanders, individuals, parents and guardians as well as communities who are beneficiaries of the Amnesty programme. While a few see the delay in the payment of their monthly stipends in the light of the need for the current government to settle in properly, others see the delay as a template to stop the programme. The expulsion of some students (home and overseas) by their schools and training institutions particularly has heightened these fears. Hence, I thought it wise that a meeting of the collegiate leadership of the platform under which we operated as agitators could be convened to appraise the situation and possibly, explore means to douse the tension that is growing among the disarmed youths whose stipends (training allowances and tuition fees) have been delayed for months. This becomes more compelling in view of the fact that as leaders of the platform that served as midwife to the Amnesty offer, we owe the nation a duty to play our roles in order to stem a relapse of the relative peace in the Niger Delta Region," he said.

Buhari denies accusing U.S. Government of aiding Boko Haram Posted: 24 Jul 2015 06:56 AM PDT Statement from the presidency below... Persisting claims in the local and international media that President Buhari has accused or indicted the United States Government of helping the terrorist group, Boko Haram are untrue and widely off mark. Reports to that effect are an unfortunate misinterpretation and distortion of the President's remarks at the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) during his highly successful official visit to Washington DC.Indeed, President Buhari made it abundantly clear in those remarks, copies of which were circulated to the media, that he was convinced that the United States could never support groups such as Boko Haram. "I know the American people cannot support any group engaged in these crimes," the President clearly stated. The regrets expressed by President Buhari at USIP about the impact of the application of the Leahy Law on Nigeria's war against Boko Haram and terrorism cannot be construed as an indictment of President Barack Obama and the United States Government who have publicly and privately declared their preparedness to give the Buhari Administration the fullest possible support and assistance. Within the context in which they were made, President Buhari's comments on the adverse effect of the Leahy Law on Nigeria's efforts to contain Boko Haram's atrocious acts of terrorism should only be taken as a passionate appeal for even greater understanding and support from a very powerful and longstanding ally. President Buhari has nothing but the highest possible regard for President Obama, the United States Government, the people of the United States, their laws and institutions. The President had very successful and useful talks with President Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, Secretary of State John Kerry, other high-ranking US government officials and members of United States Congress during his visit to Washington DC. It is his expectation that those talks will lead to better mutual understanding and a further deepening of bilateral relations between Nigeria and the United States, especially in Nigeria's current priority areas of defence and security cooperation.
