Buckingham Palace reacts to image of a young Queen Elizabeth II giving a Nazi salute Posted: 18 Jul 2015 11:56 AM PDT British Tabloid newspaper today Saturday July 18th published images showing a then six year-old Queen Elizabeth II giving a Nazi salute in the early 1930s. She was with her 3-year-old sister Princess Margaret and her uncle, who would later be crowned Edward VIII. The dramatic headline on the story read; Their Royal Heilnesses - a reference to the 'Heil Hitler' greeting used in Nazi Germany Buckingham Palace released a statement through a spokesman saying "It is disappointing that film shot eight decades ago and apparently from HM's (her majesty's) personal family archive has been obtained and exploited in this manner." The Sun also published a separate explanation of why it decided to run the footage, saying the images must be seen in their historical context.

LMAO. Two stubborn men block each other on a road (photos) Posted: 18 Jul 2015 11:51 AM PDT This happened on the street of a LIB reader who took the photos and sent them in. This happened this afternoon at Ekenwa road in Benin. Two men claiming right to the road blocked each other on the road. The driver of the white bus said he was carrying garri so couldn't move back, while the driver of the other car said he entered the road first. After sitting in their cars for several minutes, they both switched off their cars and went away. Lol. More photos after the cut... |

South Africa returns $15 million seized for the procurement of arms Posted: 18 Jul 2015 10:24 AM PDT There are claims that the $15 million seized by the South African Govt. in 2014 that was meant for the purchase of arms for the Nigerian military has been returned to the Nigerian government. The sum of $9.3 million was seized by the South African authorities on September 5, 2014 and another $5.7 million was seized later in a transaction involving Societe D' Equipments Internationale of Nigeria and Cereberus Risk Solutions, a South African arms company. The first seizure was by South African custom officers who intercepted two Nigerians and an Israeli who arrived the country in a private jet allegedly owned by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) president, Rev Ayo Oritsejafor. They found 3 suitcases stashed with money when they ran them through airport scanners. The money were reportedly concealed in two black plastic suitcases. Also found on the men, were, an invoice for a helicopter and armaments meant for Nigeria. The Nigerian government then quickly admitted that it was aware of the transaction and informed the media that the process was legal. The former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd) who spoke on behalf of the government then, said the Nigerian government had no choice as some powerful countries had refused to sell arms to Nigeria. The South African government through its High Commissioner to Nigeria, Lulu Mnguni, said it would not release the funds until after "due process" was followed. Yesterday, the consulting firm issuing statements on behalf of Nigerian security agencies, PR Nigeria, said the money has finally been released. According to the statement, the money was released as a result of some legal and diplomatic processes initiated by the former NSA which "ensured that cash seized by the South African government during the cash for arms saga last year have been fully recovered by Nigeria". It added: "President Goodluck Jonathan's administration was forced to resort to the alternative market to obtain arms when western powers blocked every access to the formal arms market but the cash were seized both at the airport and in the bank". Teen tweets a homeless man's CV...what happened next is amazing Posted: 18 Jul 2015 02:27 AM PDT An 18 year old guy named Aaron O'Dwyer from Liverpool, England, was leaving a job interview when he saw a young homeless man sitting on the streets. He approached the young man, offered him 5 pounds and then noticed he had a handwritten resume. Aaron took one of the notes, tweeted it and within a few minutes it got over 3,000 retweets. And not only has the guy been taken off the streets, he now has plenty job offers. Explaining to ABC News, Aaron said "I couldn't just walk past him,. It was the right thing to do. I think it was because he was a similar age as myself. So I walked up to him and asked if he wanted some money and I gave him some change. You could tell he wasn't on drugs or anything. He was a normal lad. I noticed in his hand he had about 15 to 20 handwritten resumes and he insisted I took one. It was quite a sad read and, obviously, a cry for help. It took me 16 seconds to take the resume and post it on Twitter. That's all it took to get him off the streets. It's quite rewarding for myself. I feel good about it."The man has been identified as Jordan Lockett, 20. The resume, written on loose-leaf paper read, in part: Need work Need help Seriously lost I'm so sick of wasting away now I'm always being told to go to homeless centres [sic] but there [sic] ] not helping I write my C.Vs like this because I don't have anything to put on it "The CV also said that he left school at 13 or 14, for his motorbike mechanic training. O'Dwyer said. "He was left with no skills and no grades, so he couldn't go on to a university. That's the reason why he said he's on the streets." |
