James Ibori’s brother-in-law sentenced to 2 & a half years in the UK for money laundering

Rowland Nakanda, a brother-in-law to former Delta State governor James Ibori has been sentenced to a UK prison for his involvement in money laundering. London Metropolitan reports below...
Nakanda had previously been found guilty of two counts of money laundering following a month-long trial at Southwark Crown Court and was sentenced on Friday, 24 July. The investigation into Nakanda commenced during the wider inquiry into the corrupt activities of the former governor of Delta State, James Ibori, between 1999 and 2007.
Nakanda, 54 (29.01.61) of Tyne Gardens, South Ockendon in Essex is the older brother of Teresa Ibori, James Ibori's wife. James and Teresa Ibori were convicted of fraud and money laundering in 2012 and were sentenced to a total of 18 years' imprisonment for corruption.

Following the conviction of the Iboris, the Nakandas became guardians of the Ibori's three children. Police identified that the Ibori children, despite their parents' convictions, were being educated at a private school and it was established that Nakanda had continued to pay the considerable school fees. Enquiries revealed that he had paid the fees to the school's bank account in cash over the counter through his local Lloyd's bank in Grays, Essex. CCTV revealed that on one day alone, Nakanda paid over £15,000 in cash for the school fees of two of the children.

A financial investigation was able to trace £350,000 in unexplained cash deposits going through Nakanda's accounts following the convictions of the Iboris. The investigation was undertaken by the Met's Proceeds of Corruption Unit, which has now transferred to the National Crime Agency (NCA) to become the International Corruption Unit. Rupert Broad, formerly a Detective Inspector in the Met's Proceeds of Corruption Unit, said: "Rowland Nakanda previously worked for the Royal Mail and lived a modest lifestyle with his wife in Essex. I am pleased that we were able to demonstrate that Nakanda knew that the money he was dealing with was the proceeds of criminal conduct and had originated from James Ibori's corrupt activity during his governorship of Delta State. This sentence should act as a warning that we will go after everyone involved in fraudulent activity, however complex and wide-reaching the fraud."

A total of nine individuals have now been convicted of money laundering offences in linked cases, and have received sentences totalling over 50 years.

Nakanda was acquitted of cheating the Revenue. Rowland Nakanda's wife, Chifu Nakanda, was acquitted of all charges.

Bar uses its 'negative' reviews to advertise itself - and scores a viral hit

Bars worried about poor reviews online need only follow this venue's example - and tell everyone their negative points. Because the Nevermind Bar has delighted fans and gone viral with their funny poster.

Staff decreed all of the worst things anyone has had to say about them online on reviews site Urban Spoon. It's the latest example of a smart response to the Trip Advisor world where everyone's opinions are shared worldwide within seconds.


The picture, shared on Imgur with the tagline 'Great advertising for a bar' showed that the complaints ranged from ambience to the bar staff: "Over-rated", "The beer was too cold", "Very un-traditional", "BBQ was sold out", "No empty seats", "It's not the Ritz" and "Guy behind the bar needs a shave".


The pay-off line at the bottom of the poster reads: "Come and see why 7% of people don't like us" - showing there's no such thing as bad publicity.

Pics: 20yr old man jailed for life for the murder of 18yr old Nigerian rapper, Isaiah Ekpaloba

18-year-old Nigerian Isaiah Ekpaloba (left) was stabbed to death in Wood Green, UK, after a fight with his friend Jaydee Dorsett (right) following what police believe was a dispute over drugs on 9th January, 2015.

Jaydee, 20, has now been found guilty of his murder and was sentenced to life yesterday, July 27th for murder and will serve a minimum of 12 years before he is eligible for parole. He was also sentenced to fours years for attempted wounding with intent.


According to the Police, the altercation which led to the murder began when Isaiah Ekpaloba and Lamont Roper (pictured above), 18, drove to Dorsett's house in Wood Green with the intention of robbing him of drugs.

Dorsett was also found guilty of attempted wounding of Lamont Roper. Meanwhile, Lamont was found guilty of conspiracy to rob Dorsett and sentenced to seven and a half years for conspiracy to rob and three and a half years for both counts of robbery.

Change can’t come by magic, it is driven by people - Tinubu

National leader of APC, Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to be patient with the Buhari led government saying that change can't come by magic. He added that change comes with planning. Tinubu said this after a meeting with President Buhari earlier today.
"Excuse me! Let us calm now here. How long ago? May 29th was when this president was sworn in. It is an international norm all over the world, there is an honeymoon period, at least minimum of 100 days honeymoon. And you won't allow honeymoon at all? You said change is not coming, change is not by magic it is driven by the people, the spirit and the character and the planning.
You see, we have had so much problem in this country in the past because we run into policy blind folded without adequate and effective planning you don't have results unless you plan well. It is not fair to jump into those conclusions. There must be time to plan, to review and even listen to people. Man accused of stabbing 17yr old transgender girl to death and then burying her in his backyard

A known gang member who was arrested last month for allegedly stabbing to death a transgender girl in Mississippi appeared in court today for a preliminary hearing in the murder case.

Joshua Vallum, 28, (left) was arrested on June 2, the day police recovered the body of 17-year-old transgender teen Mercedes Williamson (right) buried in his father's backyard.
 

The murder case in a rural Mississippi town gained national attention last month, when Caitlyn Jenner mentioned Williamson as just one of the many transgender teens murdered in the U.S. this year.

Prosecutors say Vallum admitted to his father on June 1 that he killed someone and hid their body in the wooded area behind the house.

Vallum allegedly told police that the remains belonged to Williamson, and his admission was confirmed with a DNA analysis.  

Since then, the member of the Latin Kings gang has been held on $1million bail for first-degree murder charges. 

While the motivation behind the attack is still not known, police have said that they are looking into whether Williamson's status as a transgender woman may have played a role in her cruel end. 

'We're looking at several different things. It could have been gang-related, it could have been a hate crime, we're not certain yet,' Shonna Pierce, public information officer for the George County Sheriff's office, said. 'We're still in the process of investigating this murder. Mercedes deserves justice and we're working diligently to make sure that she gets justice.'
If that's the case, Vallum could face not only murder charges, but federal hate crime charges. 

At the time of her death, Williamson had apparently become estranged with her family and had moved to nearby Theodore, Alabama, where she was sleeping on the couch of 41-year-old friend Jeanie Miller's trailer since September. 
Miller says the last time she saw Williamson was on May 30, around 2pm, when the teen left to go spend some time at 'the bay' with a friend.

Miller remembers seeing Williamson get into an unknown silver vehicle and then driving off. When Williamson didn't return to the trailer for several days, Miller called the friend who she thought had picked Williamson up and the girl told her that the teen was dead.  

'I couldn't believe it,' Miller told the Sun Herald.  'I don't want to hear. I miss how she flipped her hair. I miss the crooked teeth with that beautiful smile. ... I can smell her. I just keep wanting her to walk through that door. ... I'll never have nobody like her again. That is barely something that crosses people's lives anyway. She is the most beautiful person.' 

While police have not yet revealed how Williamson died, remarks on a Facebook tribute page to the teen say stab wounds were found on her body. 
Williamson, who was born male and named Michael Wilkins by her parents, was an aspiring cosmetologist who friends say also enjoyed spending time outdoors.  Miller said she regarded Williamson 'like a daughter'. 

She became the ninth known transgender woman killed in the U.S. for 2015, according to data from the National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs. 
Caitlyn Jenner referenced Williamson's death while accepting the Arthur Ashe courage award at this year's ESPYs.  

'All across this country, right now, all across the world, at this very moment, there are young people coming to terms with being transgender. They're learning that they're different and they are trying to figure out how to handle that, on top of every other problem that a teenager has.

'They're getting bullied, they're getting beaten up, they're getting murdered and they're committing suicide. The numbers that you just heard before are staggering, but they are the reality of what it is like to be trans today.

'Just last month, the body of 17-year-old Mercedes Williamson, a transgendered young woman of color, was found in a field in Mississippi stabbed to death...Every time something like this happens, people wonder, "Could it have been different if spotlighting this issue with more attention could have changed the way things happen?" We'll never know,' Jenner said.

Defence HQ reacts to photos on NDA twitter handle showing cadets harassing civilians

The Nigerian Defence Academy twitter handle that shared MI and Carass photos yesterday wearing Camo and threatening them, also shared photos of some cadets harassing members of the public who they claim broke the law. Well, Defence Headquarters this afternoon reacted to the pics, saying the act is against the military's principle and will be investigated. The photos have since been deleted from NDA twitter handle.
