| Buhari approves N400billion for workers’ salaries Posted: 06 Jul 2015 11:52 AM PDT  The sharing of about $2.1b (N413.7bn) in fresh allocation between the states and the federal government. The money is sourced from recent LNG proceeds to the federation account, and its release okayed by the president; A Central Bank-packaged special intervention fund that will offer financing to the states, ranging from between N250bn to N300bn. This would be a soft loan available to states to access for the purposes of paying backlog of salaries; And a debt relief program proposed by the Debt Management Office, DMO, which will help states restructure their commercial loans currently put at over N660bn, and extend the life span of such loans while reducing their debt-servicing expenditures. | Woman named world's oldest person at 116 Posted: 06 Jul 2015 11:56 AM PDT  Born on July 6, 1899, Jones became the record holder on June 17, 2015 at the age of 115 years and 346 days, Guinness Book of World Records confirmed to ABC News today. "While she lost her eyesight years ago and is hard of hearing, Jones isn't bed-bound and only takes a few medications a day," Guinness wrote in a press release. "Ms. Jones, also known as "T," which is short for auntie, to her 100 nieces and nephews and "Susie" to friends, will also become the oldest living female." The centenarian revealed to Guinness that she attributes lots of shut-eye to her long life on this earth. Jones will celebrate her 116th birthday today with family and again with a larger party among her housing community and friends on July 7. The oldest person ever to have lived was Jeanne Calment of France, also a female, who lived to 122 years and 164 days. ABC News | ||

| Jos massacre: I'm gutted, heartbroken - Former VP, Atiku Abubakar Posted: 06 Jul 2015 10:23 AM PDT  Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the twin explosions in Jos, the Plateau State capital, which left on its trail scores of fatalities and casualties. He also condemned the killings in Maiduguri & Potiskum in a press statement released by his media office in Abuja today. Read below
He bemoaned the bestiality of the terrorists to lay siege on innocent worshippers who were undertaking a spiritual demand of the holy season of Ramadan. "That this particular attack came when people were in the sanctuary of the mosque for the Ramadan fasting prayer makes the attack more heart wrenching. There can be no justificationfor this wicked and satanic assault against these worshippers and our common humanity. Clearly, these terrorists are not adherents of any civilized religion, and clearly they are not respecters of God. "Sadly the victims of the Jos explosions add to the long list of fatalities of terror in Nigeria. However, as painful as these killings are, we must remain resolute in standing with President Muhammadu Buhari as the government explores every possible avenues and initiatives that can degrade terrorism in our country. "The losses and trauma that come with terror attacks is often piercing, but we must never lose focus of our common conviction in victory." The Turaki Adamawa expressed confidence that the measures being adopted by government would eventually ensure the decimation and defeat of the insurgents. | Five Nigerian students detained in Malaysia over alleged N125.2m Internet fraud Posted: 06 Jul 2015 09:04 AM PDT  According to local media reports, the 5 Nigerian students who are between the ages of 20 and 30 are undergraduates pursuing a degree in Information Technology in a leading University Kuala Lumpur. They were arrested on June 30, 2015. A Malaysian police chief ACP Azmi Adam while speaking on their arrest said two women have been arrested for providing their bank accounts for the syndicates to use in doing their illicit business. He stated that five laptops, 20 hand phones, ATM cards, SIM cards and documents believed to have been used to con their victims were seized from the men. The men were arrested after one of their victims, a 62-year-old businessman alerted the police after receiving a suspicious email in March informing him that he was among 50 recipients selected to receive RM15.9 million from the government of the United States. "The e-mail requested the victim to follow certain procedures to ensure he did not miss the opportunity. Convinced by the contents of the e-mail, the victim carried out 51 transactions involving money, to accounts numbers given by the syndicate before realising it was a scam. He later lodged a police report," the police chief said. | ||

| 7-year-old boy killed by bullet 'meant for his dad' Posted: 06 Jul 2015 08:32 AM PDT  Police officials said Amari Brown (pictured above) was killed by a bullet meant for his father, Antonio Brown, as the family returned from an Independence Day celebration on the West Side of the city. He was hit in the right side of the chest just before midnight on Saturday July 4th.  "My son was a character man," Mr Brown told ABC 7 Chicago at a prayer vigil on Sunday evening in the Humboldt Park neighbourhood where the child was shot. "He was a clown man – just like me." A 26-year-old woman that the boy was standing with was also struck in the chest. She was taken to hospital and is in a stable condition. Mr Brown told the Chicago Tribue that he rushed his son to hospital but that he died on the way. "He was just down. He wasn't crying, he was speaking 'Daddy, daddy', " said Mr Brown. "I picked him up and put him in the car. I was in the back seat, I was talking to him the whole time. I was like, 'You cool, I know you cool'." He said that his son had responded by saying: "Yeah, I'm cool. I'm cool." Police said there were a total of 33 shooting incidents between Friday and Sunday, with most of the bloodshed occurring in just eight hours over Saturday night.
