After a 7-year hiatus, Janet Jackson announces world tour

After a 7-year hiatus from the music industry, singer Janet Jackson, 49, this morning made the official announcement about her Unbreakable World Tour and released some promo photos.

The first leg according to a press release which will be co-produced by Janet, will be a 36-date tour throughout the U.S. and Canada starting Aug. 31 in Vancouver, BC.  Shows are lined up in Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Atlanta, San Diego, San Francisco and more.

Janet also announced that her upcoming album will be out this Fall on Rhythm Nation Records.

President Buhari praises former president Jonathan at AU Summit

President Buhari has again acknowledged the role played by former president Jonathan in midwifing a peaceful and successful transition programme in the country. He said this on Sunday in his address to the AU Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.
"I cannot fail to acknowledge the very positive role played by my predecessor, President Goodluck Jonathan, in averting the feared crisis, and in facilitating the peaceful transition of power between the two parties."
Buhari reiterated that the process, which was adjudged as the fairest and most credible in the history of elections in Nigeria, was midwifed by the dogged and sustained determination of the Nigerian people, and their desire to deepen democracy. (NAN)

Transgender teacher commits suicide after bullying from her students

Milwaukee teacher Jill Greinke used to be a man and when her students and other teachers found out, they teased her so much she took her own life.
It's not easy for Jill Greinke to be in the room decorated by her late 37-year-old daughter Karis Anne Ross. "I'm still not over her death by any means, so it hurts," she said. "She was my hero. She was extremely authentic."
But Greinke said workplace bullying was too much for her transgender daughter to handle. Karis committed suicide in November 2014 and left a suicide note, saying the bullying had happened for 10 years, while teaching at German Immersion School.
"There were people named," Greinke said. "Before her transition she was being bullied. After her transition she was being bullied."

Family and friends said Karis voiced her concerns to the school's principal, but they went ignored.
Despite that, Greinke said, "I don't blame MPS for my daughter's death. I believe the sad thing it that important things were missed."

"The way it was handled is disappointing," said Madeline Dietrich, friend. "That it seemed to be more covered up than shared."

In order to bring change, Dietrich is calling attention to the issue, writing an open letter to MPS superintendent Dr. Darienne Driver.

"I hope that Dr. Driver will acknowledge the incident, in terms of a case where there was bullying happening," said Dietrich via phone. "I hope she makes a public statement."
Last Sunday on Greinke's birthday, family and friends gathered to celebrate Karis' life and remember the passion she had for helping others, despite no one helping her.

"It's not to blame MPS," Greinke said. "The goal is for this to never happen to anybody again. So that things are taken seriously for all human beings."

We asked MPS about the claims Karis was being bullied and the alleged lack of action by the principal. A spokesperson sent us this, "Ms. Ross was a longtime member of the Milwaukee German Immersion School staff whose presence is still missed."

My open letter to Prof. Wole Soyinka on his open letter - Sen. Chris Anyanwu

Sen. Chris Anyanwu, who moved the motion on the recently passed 'Sexual Offences Bill' responds to Wole Soyinka's open letter which was published over the weekend where he blasted a bill passed by the senate legalizing sex with underage girls. See her response below...
I have read your open letter published on a number of on-line papers. No one who read that letter could miss the fury embedded in your words. I know where that fury comes from: moral fiber, good conscience, and love of people. I want to assure you that it was the very same sentiments that drove me to come up with The Sexual Offences Bill and the same sentiments that led Senators and members to pass it.
As always, your aim was to speak as the voice of reason in our increasingly confused society.  I know you meant well. I know you acted out of your deep compassion for Nigerians and fatherly love for the children. But as I read your open letter, my heart sank because this time, my dear Baba, my dear icon, you are wrong.

You have been misled by the misinformation circulated by someone who could not read or comprehend a legal draft; someone who did not have the patience to read through a proposal, see what was recommended and what was finally accepted. You were misled by someone who deliberately distorted the content of one of the most profound bills ever passed by the Nigerian legislature, scandalized the proponent and the institution for reasons that you and I may not know.

No where in the SEXUAL OFFENCES BILL that I proposed; no where in the bill passed by Senate was it stated that you can defile an 11 years old. No where in the bill passed by the Senate was the age "11 years" mentioned. Here is what was passed in relation to your area of pre-occupation which is defilement clause 6 (2):
"A person who commits an offence of defilement shall upon conviction be sentenced to imprisonment for life".

You claimed that the bill re-defined "female adulthood as marital status". Where in the bill proposed by me and where in the bill passed by Senate did you see adulthood linked to marital status? The extreme distortion of the spirit, intent and even content of this bill leads me to think that you may be talking about an all-together different piece of legislation. For emphasis, let me state that the bill makes no such linkages as you erroneously stated. I think it may be fear of Sen Yerima that is at play here. For your information, Senator Yerima and all other Senators who  participated in the debate on the two occasions the bill came up on the floor supported it as a vehicle for instituting a stringent law barring all ranges of sexual offences in Nigeria. They did this because they also have children, wives, daughters, even mothers and cannot afford to leave them in the current state where abuses are rewarded with a slap on the wrist of the
 perpetrators because our laws are outdated, without strong in-built deterrence and the mechanisms for monitoring and control are absent.

This is just another case of people demonizing what is clearly in the public good because of deep-seated negative pre-dispositions towards individuals in an institution. By your strong advocacy against the bill, you have unwittingly stamped your feet in favor of maintaining the status quo. Where we are now.. the status quo.. is a world in which a six year old child is raped to death and then set ablaze. Where we are now is a place where a father rapes his 3 year old boys repeatedly and the mother weeps at night and cannot speak out due to shame and fear of her life. Where we are now is a place where young Cynthia in her struggles for self employment ran into a gang who drugged her, raped and murdered her. Where we are now is a place where foreigners come for tourism and turn children to their objects of tourism.

With all due respect Sir, I want to express my deep disappointment with your hastiness in flowing with the mob on this matter. I blame your press officers. I think they should have advised caution.  You have known me since the 1990's. There is no way you could have sent feelers and I would not jump into the next flight to answer you.  In fact, a mere telephone call could have dispensed with the matter. If you had even asked someone to get you a copy of the Votes and Proceedings of Senate for that day which published the exact words in the legislation passed, you would have spared yourself the time and emotions spent over what is clear mischief circulated through the web. The people who started it all are hate-mongers. They merely took advantage of the negative public feelings they have built up against the legislature. You have no business with such people Sir.

I am sure in the most inner recesses of your mind you know I cannot in anyway be associated with any anti-people law. Nothing in my personal history, professional antecedents or even the hard work I did to push through pro-people legislations in Senate, could lead anyone to think of me as capable of working against children, the very people I fought for over the course of my 8 years in Senate. The Sexual Offences bill is only one of many I did. I also proposed the Occupational Safety and Health bill protecting workers in virtually all sectors of the economy from hazards at work.  The only group excluded are those in the oil and gas sectors who have been extensively provided for in the PIB.

There was no "accident" as you call it involved in this legislation. Neither was there an error in judgment. The bill has been fabricated to provide a strong deterrence against abuses. When implemented, It will mitigate the private sufferings of parents; reduce their fear of what happens in their absence to their children at school, in the play grounds, in the neighborhoods, even in religious spaces.

Nigeria today is not a safe place for children; not a safe place for girls; not a safe place for small boys; and it is not a safe place either for old women.  This legislation is proposes condign punishments for abhorrent crimes such as we are seeing in our country today. It even covers crimes yet to arrive our shores. Under this bill, pedophiles will be put away for life not made rock stars as we do today. This bill will bring sanity to our society. It will make Nigeria a better place for all.

I suspect that some of those fighting against the bill are fixating on the short title. Its long title shows what it is:  a sexual offences prevention bill; a tough deterrence to crime.  I want you to take time and read the final copy of the bill. You will be proud. You will realize that good things can come from Nigeria and Nigerians. It is not only legislations initiated by outsiders and handed to us locals to push for their passage that should be deemed as good for us. By passing that bill, National Assembly has kept faith with the people of Nigeria. It has provided the cover of protection under which Nigerian children can live normal lives of fulfillment without fear. By your robust advocacy against the bill preventing sexual abuses of children, you foreclose the future of children in this society. But if I read you correctly, I have no doubt that you will reverse yourself on this once you have the correct information. This is why I have written you
 this letter.

You have made your first "imposition" on Mr. President based on your understanding of the false information circulated by the very offenders you despise. I plead with you as a man who has been found to be a great man of honor and bestowed with the highest literary honor in the world to reconsider your position.
 
Let me on behalf of the innumerable victims of abuse in Nigeria; let me invoke the spirit of Cynthia who fell victim in Lagos; and let me plead  on behalf of the many wives and husbands deliberately infected with HIV by their partners whose suffering impelled this bill, that you reverse your instruction to Mr. President.  The President of the Federal Republic looks to old sages like you for positive direction. That was what you intended to give him. But now that you know the truth, for the sake of your long established reputation and known love for Nigeria, turn it around and urge Mr. President to sign this bill that will protect our people, restore sanity to society and make Nigeria a better place for all.

A married Pastor named Reverend Rosbon Munamba, has been arrested for pouring raw acid on his estranged lover, Rudo Bakasa in Zimbabwe.

According to Zimbabwean media Iharare.co, Rev. Rosbon was a friend of Rudo's ex husband and got into a relationship with her after her marriage ended. They dated briefly and then she decided to call off the relationship. Her decision to call off their relationship made Reverend Rosbon angry.

After Rudo refused his pleading for them to get back together, he attacked her with acid.

Narrating how he attacked her, Rudo said
"He would always say he would kill me if I decided to dump him but I didn't believe him until the day he pounced on me. I had on several occasions tried to end things to the extent of changing my phone numbers but somehow he would always phone me. On the day in question he attacked me, he had phoned the previous night saying that he wanted to see me. I told him that I would not be around since I wanted to attend a funeral in my rural home in Goromonzi. He asked me if I was really serious about ending the relationship and I insisted that it was over. He again started with the threats telling me that no one dumps him,"Rudo said
Rudo who is currently receiving medical attention at the Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare, said she was shocked to find the Reverend waiting for her at the Bus Stop
"So as we were walking towards my home, he then produced a container from his bag and tried forcing me to drink the liquid. Before I could even notice what was in the container he held my mouth and tried to force me to open it, he almost strangled me and because he missed my mouth part of the liquid got into my ear and the other side of the face. He then started pouring the rest of the liquid all over my body and I was in so much pain, I started screaming for help and immediately I was undressed I guess because of the effect of the acid. I am in pain but I want you to hear my story. I am sure when people heard me screaming, they thought it was because of the funeral I was supposed to attend. I fell and I don't know what happened next because I should have passed out. I am sure he also ran away during that time" she said.
Reverend Munamba who is the pastor of Full Gospel of Christ based in Botswana will appear in court soon.

The woman pictured left named Ronke Olayinka has been arrested for inflicting terrible injuries on her 9 year old nephew named Abdullahi Taoreed (left). According to New Telegraph, the woman inflicted blade cuts on the boy for eating at a party on June 7th. The boy's parents are dead.

On the day of the incident Abdullahi said he went to the house opposite theirs at Pipeline Street in Oke-Odo area of Lagos to serve food and also to eat since there was no food in their house.

This got his aunt, who he calls mummy, angry
"Yes, it was my mummy who inflicted blade cuts on my hands because I went to a party opposite our house to eat. There was no food at home. I was hungry, so I assisted the people holding the party to carry chairs. I knew that if I assisted them, they would give me food. They gave me food. My sister went to report to my mummy. We went for evening prayer. After the prayer, my mummy called me and started cutting my hands with a blade. She went out to buy the blade. The cut was deep. She poured pepper into the wounds. She then gave me a hot pot of beans to carry to the kitchen with the bloodied hands. One of our neighbors, a woman, saw me and took the pot from me. She went and told everyone in the compound. People saw my hands and started crying. It's not every time my mummy gives me food. She uses a piece of wood to beat me, but uses canes on her kids."he told New Telegraph
Neighbors who saw him with the injury alerted the police at the Oko-Oba police station who immediately arrested the aunt. When interrogated, she said Abdullahi was a stubborn child who never listens to her
"I'm a struggling widow. I have three kids. One is 15, the second is 12 and the third is 10. I'm a trader. I leave home in the morning and come back at night. Whenever I return, neighbours usually complain about Abdullahi; how he usually goes to different places to eat. Sometimes, he would go with his friends to a place called Agbele-Kale to swim. He's just stubborn and doesn't listen! He's my brother's son. I've been taking care of him since he was a baby. He behaves like someone without home training. He usually goes to parties to eat. He was behaving like someone who doesn't have parents or like someone who has no home training. When I returned on Saturday, neighbours said I should warn him. On Sunday, he went out again. Food was ready, but he was nowhere to be seen. I was angry. I used the blade on his two hands. I never knew it would be that bad!"
Asked why she used a blade instead of a cane on the boy, Olayinka said:
"Anytime I want to beat him, he would run away, forcing me to chase him. But what happened that day was the work of the devil. Yes, I poured pepper on the wounds. I only wanted to make him to be a good boy."
Abdullahi said it was not the first time his Aunt had physically assaulted him.

Karrueche gets a lawyer...puts restraining order against Chris Brown

After yesterday's fight between Chris Brown and his ex, Karrueche, there are now reports that she has hired a lawyer and is looking to get a restraining order against Chris Brown. MTO reports below...
Here's what we're being told by a person close to Karrueche "Chris is very unpredictable, he's nice one day and then mad the next. It's not his fault he has (bipolar disorder).
The tipster continued, "Last time he came into contact with Karrueche, he frightened her and he broke out her window. Chris promised to stay away from her and she's just holding him to that promise. The restraining order is just (a little) insurance that he keeps his word."We're told Karrueche's attorneys will make their filing this week in LA county.

One soldier killed, many terrorists injured during attack in Yobe yesterday

One soldier was killed while scores of Boko Haram members were injured during an attack in Babangida, the Headquarters of Tarmuwa Local Government Headquarters in Yobe state yesterday June 14th.

Over 10 rifles and weapon, three hilux cars as well as hundreds of rounds of ammunition and some Hand Grenades were recovered from the terrorists. A vigilante member died while 5 were wounded during the attack.
