Re: Kashamu gets notice of extradition

Posted: 02 Jun 2015 01:21 PM PDT

Press statement from Kashamu's lawyers
Our attention has been drawn to a press release by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) purporting to have served extradition proceedings on Senator-elect, Prince Buruji Kashamu.
We wish to state that the NDLEA has no role to play in extradition proceedings until a warrant of arrest has been issued by the court. It is the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice that initiates extradition proceedings after receiving a request by an order directed to the court and asking the court to take over the matter.
It is the court that will decide whether a warrant of arrest is necessary. It is the court that will consider all the evidence provided by the United States to see whether it satisfies the onus of proof and that it establishes that the person sough is the person that actually participated in the offence alleged.
In this case, the NDLEA is very jumpy, nervous and unsettled because it has exposed its unprofessionalism when before any extradition proceedings had been commenced at all, it invaded the home of Prince Kashamu, broke down his gates, doors and windows to gain access, harassed his infant children and pregnant wife and humiliated him in the presence of his family.

Clearly, the plan was not extradition but abduction and that plan failed only because it quickly came to the attention of the public.

The belated filing on Thursday, 28th May, 2015 of an application to the Federal High Court by the immediate past Attorney-General  of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Adoke Bello, is an afterthought. And the lack of quality in the processes is indicative that it is a rushed job quickly done to save his face.
The pieces of evidence which the US authorities have provided him are exactly the same evidence that the British courts found to contain falsehood and held to be incredible and valueless.
I wonder why the immediate past AGF would think that the Nigerian courts can be deceived.
Additionally, it must be borne in mind that during the trial in the United Kingdom, the NDLEA sent its operatives to London to give evidence. And that evidence was to the effect that Prince Buruji Kashamu is not the person wanted for the drug-related offences.
One wonders what has changed now. Although one should not wonder for long knowing that the immediate past AGF and the Chairman of the NDLEA are now working for Prince Kashamu's political opponents who will do anything to deprive him of his mandate which he won in a free and fair election.
There are many things wrong with the documents filed by the immediate past AGF. But all these will be dealt with in the court in due course.
The triumphant announcement by the NDLEA that they have served Prince Kashamu with extradition proceedings is not only laughable but false. He has not been served. Rather, a copy of the process was dropped in our office in Lagos yesterday. So, we shall deal with it in accordance with the law.
In the mean time, the NDLEA should be warned to stay away because they have no role to play in the current proceedings. And if we should discover that they have usurped the functions of the AGF, we shall certainly make an issue of it.

Caitlyn Jenner drags Kris Jenner in Vanity Fair - says she wasn't very nice

Posted: 02 Jun 2015 01:21 PM PDT

If Caitlyn Jenner wants to keep getting the support of his step-children, he will have to stop thrashing their mum in his interviews. Speaking with Vanity Fair in the issue where he unveiled his female self, Bruce said Kris was very controlling & wasn't very nice to him towards the end of their marriage..
"The first 15 years I felt she needed me more because I was the breadwinner. Then really around the show, when that hit and she was running the whole show and getting credit for it and she had her own money, she didn't need me as much from that standpoint… I think in a lot of ways she became less tolerant of me. A lot of times she wasn't very nice. People would see how I got mistreated. She controlled the money, all that kind of stuff."

Photos: Governor Ambode visits scene of todays tanker accident

Posted: 02 Jun 2015 10:54 AM PDT

Lagos state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode visited the scene of the fire incident that occurred in the Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos this morning in which properties worth millions of Naira were destroyed. Ambode said the fire was caused by a 33, 000 liter petrol tanker that fell off the Ipaja bridge and spilled its content across five streets in the area. Shops, cars, buses and buildings were razed in the ensuing inferno. See more photos after the cut..

Explaining, Governor Akinwunmi said
"Around 1am, a tanker loaded with 33,000 litres of petrol fell from the Ipaja bridge and spilled all its contents covering almost five streets here. In the last four hours, all our emergency agencies have been effectively on the ground and we have been able to manage and control consequences of what 33,000 litres of petrol would have done to this neighbourhood. Thank God, there has not been any loss of lives, but again, there are victims whose shops were destroyed. As of the last count, the agencies have been able to report that everything has been put under control. We've also recorded two other incidences, just like this one in other parts of Lagos overnight; one in Badagry and the other one in the Ojo area. It would also mean that our tanker drivers have to start to do something about their operations. We cannot continue to record loss of lives and property because our tanker drivers ‎are not disciplined."

Do not be a victim of fuel fraud!

Posted: 02 Jun 2015 10:31 AM PDT

Fuel has always been an integral component of our lives in Nigeria. The unfaltering challenges with power supply and distribution faced over the years by Nigerians has resulted in us being especially dependent on petrol and diesel for running generators in the homes and workplaces.

The cost of running a 150KVA generator for business operations from 8am to 5pm is substantial.

The average fuel usage for running a 9-5 is at 85 to 95 liters' a day with a normal price of N135 (One Hundred and Thirty Five Naira) per litre which equals to about N12, 000 every day. In these climes, with its scarcity being the order of the day, fuel is practically liquid gold… a rare and precious asset.

Imagine having to spend triple the amount of the average fuel consumption per day, 12,000 multiplied by 3 that is N36, 000 just on fuel for one day. Let's not even go into how much diesel would cost. Businesses have had to put a halt on operations due to this current fuel's scarcity; banks are shutting down at 1pm just to save up fuel for the next day's operations. Sad as it may be every other aspect of lives has been tremendously affected by this situation. The last thing you want to worry about is a dishonest staff smuggling your precious "Liquid gold"

Across small and large businesses alike, it is commonplace for staff involved in running the generators to engage in theft of resources or facilitate leakages in the operating process. A typical instance is where the fuel supplier connives with the administrative staff or security to supply less than the agreed amount and the price differential is shared amongst the involved fraudsters. This increases the cost of production and decreases operational efficiency of the said establishment. How can you curb this pilferage? Is it possible to conveniently monitor your "liquid gold?"
For the majority of those that are heavily reliant on generators for power, you could be saving a significant percentage of your fuel expenses by wisely investing in a Fuel Monitoring solution.
Concept Nova's fuel manager is a fuel monitoring solution that gives a realistic analysis of your fuel consumption using web based technology. This solution is a combination of a hardware fuel monitoring device (sensors and probes) and a robust cutting edge web-enabled application, giving it the ability to capture real-time statistics on the movement of fuel in and out of the asset/vessel, as well as location of asset.
Mangers are now able to monitor in and out flow of your company's fuel and how much fuel has been consumed within a specific time frame. The fuel monitoring solutionalso detects any fuel-theft attempt and when the fuel vessel is being refuelled. This fuel manager is designed as a condition monitor that checks the working hours of your generator also detecting any leakage or faults in the tank. This protects your organization against unforeseeable mishaps and asset malfunctions. Getting this fuel monitoring solution would not only help your organization optimize its fuel usage thereby reducing costs but it would also increase the overall operational efficiency of the company. With this solution your worries about fraud, fuel theft, operational and cost inefficiencies can be curbed
Look no further! Concept Nova's fuel monitoring solutionhas been specially designed to cater to these needs. Your organization does not have to be a victim of "fuel fraud" especially in these trying times. Improve in fuel efficiency and reduce fuel cost with Concept Nova's fuel monitoring solution

FIFA President Sepp Blatter announces he'll be stepping down from office

Posted: 02 Jun 2015 10:24 AM PDT

FIFA President Sepp Blatter has announced he will be resigning from office as President of the World football body soon. Making the announcement today, Mr Blatter, 79, who was re-elected for a fifth term only four days ago, said the world football governing body will hold an extraordinary congress to elect his successor as soon as possible.
"I decided to stand again for election because I thought it was the best option. The election is closed but the challenges have not come to an end. FIFA needs a profound restructuring. Although the members of Fifa have re-elected me president, this mandate does not seem to be supported by everybody in the world of football. This is why I will call an extraordinary congress and step down." he said
This is coming after many called for his resignation following the bribery scandal that engulfed the football governing body and arrest of several top officials.

His full statement below...
I have been reflecting deeply about my presidency and about the 40 years in which my life has been inextricably bound to Fifa and the great sport of football. I cherish Fifa more than anything and I want to do only what is best for Fifa and for football. I felt compelled to stand for re-election, as I believed that this was the best thing for the organisation. That election is over but Fifa's challenges are not. Fifa needs a profound overhaul.
While I have a mandate from the membership of Fifa, I do not feel that I have a mandate from the entire world of football – the fans, the players, the clubs, the people who live, breathe and love football as much as we all do at Fifa. Therefore, I have decided to lay down my mandate at an extraordinary elective Congress. I will continue to exercise my functions as Fifa President until that election. The next ordinary Fifa Congress will take place on 13 May 2016 in Mexico City. This would create unnecessary delay and I will urge the Executive Committee to organise an Extraordinary Congress for the election of my successor at the earliest opportunity. This will need to be done in line with Fifa's statutes and we must allow enough time for the best candidates to present themselves and to campaign. Since I shall not be a candidate, and am therefore now free from the constraints that elections inevitably impose, I shall be able to focus on driving far-reaching, fundamental reforms that transcend our previous efforts.
For years, we have worked hard to put in place administrative reforms, but it is plain to me that while these must continue, they are not enough. The Executive Committee includes representatives of confederations over whom we have no control, but for whose actions Fifa is held responsible. We need deep-rooted structural change. The size of the Executive Committee must be reduced and its members should be elected through the Fifa Congress. The integrity checks for all Executive Committee members must be organised centrally through Fifa and not through the confederations. We need term limits not only for the president but for all members of the Executive Committee. I have fought for these changes before and, as everyone knows, my efforts have been blocked.
This time, I will succeed. I cannot do this alone. I have asked Domenico Scala to oversee the introduction and implementation of these and other measures. Mr Scala is the Independent Chairman of our Audit and Compliance Committee elected by the Fifa Congress. He is also the Chairman of the ad hoc Electoral Committee and, as such, he will oversee the election of my successor. Mr Scala enjoys the confidence of a wide range of constituents within and outside of Fifa and has all the knowledge and experience necessary to help tackle these major reforms. It is my deep care for Fifa and its interests, which I hold very dear, that has led me to take this decision. I would like to thank those who have always supported me in a constructive and loyal manner as President of Fifa and who have done so much for the game that we all love. What matters to me more than anything is that when all of this is over, football is the winner.

Photos: CBN workers accused of N8billion fraud remanded in prison

Find the EFCC Press statement below ...
Six staff of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, implicated in an N8billion defaced and mutilated currency recycling scam, were today remanded in prison custody following their arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, before Justice N. Ayo Emmanuel of a Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State. The suspects: Patience Okoro Eye; Afolabi Olufemi Johnson; Ilori Adekunle Sunday; Kolawole Babalola, Olaniran Muniru Adeola and Fatai Adedokun Yusuf, were arraigned on a five -count charge bordering on conspiracy, fraud and stealing.
Specifically, the apex bank employees were alleged to have compromised the CBN's Briquetting exercise, meant to mop up mutilated and defaced higher denomination currencies from circulation, to combat inflation. Instead of destroying the currencies, they allegedly recycled the notes and substituted them with newspapers neatly cut to Naira sizes. When the charges were read to them, they pleaded not guilty.

Count One of the charge reads: "That you Patience Okoro Eye; Afolabi Olufemi Johnson; Ilori Adekunle Sunday; Kolawole Babalola, Olaniran Muniru Adeola and Fatai Adedokun Yusuf on or about 5th August, 2014 in Ibadan within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, have by virtue of abuse of your office, being employees of Central Bank of Nigeria, contributed to the economic adversity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria when you destroyed a box marked " Counted Audited Dirty" filled with Newspapers in place of a box containing N10,000,000 (Ten Million Naira) of N1,000 denomination and which activity led to the increase of money in circulation which the briquetting exercise of Central Bank of Nigeria was intended to control and you thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 1(2) (b) and Section 10 (1) of the Recovery of Public Property (Special Provision) Act, Cap. R4, Laws of the Federation Nigeria, 2014".

Count Two reads: "That you Patience Okoro Eye; Afolabi Olufemi Johnson; Ilori Adekunle Sunday; Kolawole Babalola, Olaniran Muniru Adeola and Fatai Adedokun Yusuf on or about 5th August, 2014 in Ibadan within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, engaged in corrupt practices when you replaced the content of a box of N1,000 denomination in a total sum of N10, 000,000 (Ten Million Naira) marked as " Counted Audited Dirty" meant for briquetting, with Newspapers and which sum you converted to your own use and you thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 1(2) (a) and Section 10 (1) of the Recovery of Public Property (Special Provision) Act, Cap. R4, Laws of the Federation Nigeria, 2014".

In view of their plea, prosecuting counsel, Rotimi Jacobs, SAN, prayed the court for a trial date and for the defendants to be remanded in prison custody. He opposed their bail applications and urged counsel to the defendants to present their bail applications formally to court. However, counsel to the 1st accused person, K. A. Lawal made an oral application for bail. All other counsel followed suit. Justice Emmanuel however adjourned the matter to June 9, 2015 for hearing of the bail applications and July 6 and 7, 2015 for commencement of trial.

He ordered that all the defendants be remanded in Agodi prison custody, Ibadan. Media & Publicity 2nd June, 2015

Boko Haram releases new video, claims authority over liberated areas

Posted: 02 Jun 2015 09:22 AM PDT

Boko Haram released a 10-mins video on Youtube recently. Leader of the sect, Abubakar Shekau is believed to be absent from the video. The spokesperson in the video claimed they were still in authority over Dikwa, Gamboru, Damasak and other areas which the Nigerian military claimed they had liberated in recent times.

The spokesperson swore in Allah's name that they were filming from Sambisa forest.
"I swear by Allah that I am talking right now from Sambisa. Here in Sambisa you can travel more than four to five hours under the black flag of Islam by car or by motorbike," the spokesperson said
The video had on it the logo "Islamic State in West Africa", suggesting that the sect members have indeed formed a coalition with the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq. The video ends with a footage of a downed jet as well as plain cloth and uniformed service men that have been killed.
