Prison guards resign after pic of beaten up inmate dragged around like a dog goes viral Posted: 10 Apr 2015 01:06 PM PDT Two Georgia prison guards resigned yesterday after this photo of a beaten teenage inmate with a leash around his neck was posted on Facebook last week. The photo was posted from the prison by one of the inmates with a contraband cellphone Via NBC News; Authorities also said two prisoners involved in the March 27 incident were transferred out of the Al Burruss Correctional Training Center and the victim, Cortez Berry, is now in protective custody at another state prison. The Department of Corrections did not disclose the officers' names or say whether they faced discipline before resigning.Berry's family told NBC News last week that when they saw the disturbing pictures posted on Facebook and went to the prison to investigate, the guards were unaware that he had been beaten.
Berry is now within protective custody at Macon State Prison, the agency said in a statement. "In our continued efforts for the safety of our inmates, the Department transferred the other two inmates involved to other facilities. Additionally, both supervising officers involved in the incident have resigned."The incident is still under investigation, the statement said. Berry was imprisoned at Burruss for violating probation on charges of juvenile aggravated assault, robbery and car theft. He told his aunt that the day before his 18th birthday, a group of fellow inmates tried to get him to join a gang called the Gangster Disciples, and when he refused they attacked him and took the photo. "No guard was there to help him," the aunt, Shavondria Wright, told NBC News. The case highlighted both violence in Georgia prisons and the growing use of smuggled cellphones by inmates, sometimes to commit crimes.
Our response to Lai Mohammed's latest attack on Pres. Jonathan - Reuben Abati Posted: 10 Apr 2015 12:49 PM PDT Transcript response to Lai Mohammed's statement on president Jonathan's visit to Lagos on Thursday April 9th as articulated by Reuben Abati in an interview with State House Correspondents.
Mr. Jimi Agbaje is the Governorship candidate of the PDP in Lagos. I don't see how his visit to the President, who is also the leader of his party, the PDP, should become an issue. Yes, Gani Adams also visited, but so did a lot of other people. The President did not hold meetings with INEC officials, he did not meet with the police, or polling officials or with anybody who is involved in organising elections. So to say that the President went to Lagos to supervise the rigging of Saturday's election is most uncharitable and cruel. After the Presidential election, the President immediately congratulated Gen. Buhari and the whole world has commended him for saving Nigeria. President Jonathan's sportsmanship, statesmanship and leadership saved this country at that critical moment. He has demonstrated his commitment to free and fair election, the rule of law and due process. He has shown that he is a man of character, honour and integrity. Nigerians generally are proud of him. He has left a worthy legacy and shown a great example. That, obviously, is the narrative that Lai Muhammed and his masters want to change, so they are now cooking up meaningless tales. Lai Muhammed should look for another target and leave the President alone. His fatuous tale does not make any sense. I repeat: we will like to advise that the APC should just leave the President alone. President Jonathan was a candidate in the presidential election; he did not rig the election. Why would he want to rig tomorrow's elections? Below is the statement APC released earlier in the day...(quite hilarious. A man who didn't rig his own election will make the effort to rig for someone else? lol). Read below... APC exposes PDP's rigging plan for Lagos, questions Jonathan's commitment to credible polls

Igbo Community Takes Cultural Festival To Lagos Posted: 10 Apr 2015 09:49 AM PDT Sponsored post. Forget it – The Igbos are not leaving Lagos anytime soon. Threaten to drown or deport them, it's clear these enterprising Nigerians are here; to stay for good. Claiming their place in the most commercial state in Nigeria, last weekend as #AkioluGate was unraveling, the people of Arondizuogu, a popular Igbo community in Imo state Nigeria were celebrating their most significant festival- The Annual Ikeji Arondizuogu Festival at the National Stadium Surulere, Lagos. One of the high points of the festival was the sampling of Ace Roots drink, which had many attest to the low sugar content of the drink, 'It is my first time tasting this drink and I am in love with it already. From the taste alone, I can tell it has low sugar, which is good for me', Pius Ihediem, one of the guests who sampled the drink said. Apart from the usual festival elements, this year a new common factor was noticed as almost all the guests were holding a cup of the new Ace Roots herbal mixed fruits drink. The drink, which is rich in herbal content of 14 African herbs and spices with only 6 per cent alcoholic content, was undoubtedly the drink of the day at this year's festival. Reacting to the sponsorship, President of the Movement for Arondizuogu Progress (MAP) Mazi Eric Ikoro, thanked Ace Roots for the sponsorship adding that the it was instrumental to the success of the festival, 'We are very grateful to Ace Roots for this initiative. With this gesture, the drink has really proven to be truly AfricanThe people of Arondizuogu have proven yet again that Nigerians are never reluctant to embrace their roots irrespective of their place of residence. Arondizuogu is an annual socio-cultural and religious festival staged in different parts of the world to celebrate thanksgiving, propitiation and feasting.

Photos: NDLEA arrests South African lady with N74m concealed in oats packs Posted: 10 Apr 2015 09:34 AM PDT A 39-year-old South African woman identified as Nosisi Nqgula was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, with $373,725 (N74.4million) and €2,120 (N450,000), concealed inside packs of oats found in her luggage (above). Difference between Assets and Liabilities Posted: 10 Apr 2015 08:37 AM PDT An asset is anything, which you own and which is valuable, whether it is tangible or intangible. Assets are said to have positive economic value. Simply put an asset is something that is worth money and which a person can exchange for money. Examples of tangible assets, that is assets we can see and touch, are cash, goods or inventory, land, buildings and equipment. Examples of intangible assets, that is, assets which we cannot see or touch, are trademarks, copyright, patents, goodwill and stock. A liability on the other hand is an obligation – for example money that must be paid or services that must be performed. A liability is the result of a past transaction or event. Settlement of a liability usually involves the handing over of an asset. Examples of liabilities include salaries payable, accounts payable, as well as long or short-term loans which individuals or companies take and which they, of course, have to pay back.To put it simply, an asset is something that you OWN while a liability is something that you OWE. A financially successful person or company has more assets than liabilities. This means that they have the means to fulfill or settle their obligations. On the other hand, a person or company whose liabilities are more than their assets is probably in trouble. In managing your finances therefore, you must ensure that your liabilities do not exceed your assets. Pres. Jonathan's message to Nigerians ahead of tomorrow's election Posted: 10 Apr 2015 06:49 AM PDT He shared this message on his Facebook wall ... As Nigeria returns to the polls tomorrow, I encourage all registered voters to come out en masse and exercise their right to vote. I have instructed our security agents to fully facilitate the right of Nigerians to choose leaders of their choice at the gubernatorial and assembly levels by remaining non partisan and ensuring that we all vote in a secure environment. Because of their sacrifice in securing our nation, we can all be confident to come out and vote our conscience all over the federation. I urge contestants to respect the will of the people as we promote a new Nigeria that is a pacesetter and light bearer in the practice of democratic politics without bitterness. May God bless Nigeria. GEJ
