Actress Alice Eve comes for Bruce Jenner, says he's 'playing at being a woman'

Posted: 28 Apr 2015 01:13 PM PDT

Since his interview where he announced that he thinks of himself as a woman and has begun gender reassignment treatment, US celebs have been calling Bruce Jenner a hero, praising him for finding the strength to tell his truth etc but one actress has boldly gone where few public figures have gone. According to Star Trek Alice Eve, Bruce Jenner is only 'playing at being a woman'
"'For all intents and purposes I am a woman' Nope. If you were a woman no one would have heard of you because women can't compete in the decathlon. You wouldn't be a hero. You would be a frustrated young athlete who wasn't given a chance. Until women are paid the same as men, then playing at being a "woman" while retaining the benefits of being a man is unfair. Do you have a vagina? Are you paid less than men? Then, my friend, you are a woman.' Alice wrote on instagram (she has since deleted the post)

Response to Bode George - No Apology By Tinubu media office

Posted: 28 Apr 2015 12:36 PM PDT

PDP chieftain Bode George did an interview with Punch recently where he claimed the APC leader apologized to him. Tinubu says he never did. Read the press statement below...
I was informed about a recent interview by Bode George in one of the national dailies and felt it necessary to clarify his claim that I begged him for forgiveness. I don't know when and how I ever offended Mr.George. I have never wronged the man or even thought of it. I sought no forgiveness because no forgiveness was needed.
I think somehow he is still trying to implicate me as instigating the criminal proceedings once lodged against him. From my recollection, Mr. George was found guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction based on convincing evidence of wrongdoing. He insults the judiciary by implying that his conviction was wrongly derived.
Mr. George seeks to imbue me with more power than I could possibly have. I am flattered but in all humility I must protest the false assessment. If he can remember, the government of the day was that of the PDP. I have never had nor sought much influence in those circles. He was charged by the government ruled by his own party for an offence concerning financial irregularities at the Nigeria Port Authority, NPA, an appointment he received from that same government. It is an incredible tale indeed to state that somehow I could direct a party that tried to dismantle the progressive political structure of my party to bring down one of its key members.
The more plausible explanation for his legal tribulation was that a member of his own cabal blew the whistle on Mr. George's antics for reasons that only he and that person truly know.  The rest is now history.
I believe he was convicted of " Invoice Splitting" a violation of financial regulations. This malpractice is a deliberate circumvention of the law so that the culprit may approval expenditures above his mandated authority to do so and without proper oversight.
In the end, it was Mr. George's own hand and actions that led to his incarceration more than anything I could ever have done.
Mr. George claims the alleged apology was made at the burial of Chief Alao Arisekola. On that date, personalities such as Oba Otudeko and Governor Ajimobi approached me because I did not greet Mr. George initially. They pleaded that, in the memory of the man we were all gathered to honor, I should greet Mr. George.  At their request, I turned back and came to greet him by saying "Good Afternoon  Egbon". That was all.
If  Mr. George wishes to interpret that as an apology, he has the right to do so. I also have the right to state categorically that no apology was made or even intended.
I think   he is trying to find a way to walk back from his election hyperbole that he would go on exile if the APC won the Lagos State governership election.  He realizes that Lagos under the APC is a very good place to live afterall. If he wants to remain in Lagos, he does not have to manufacture an excuse or explain away his bad words. Neither the APC nor I have any aims against him.  In the election, the people rejected his party and his brand of politics. That is enough for us. We move on to greater progress.  We have no time or inclination to trouble ourselves by troubling Bode George. Any trouble he is experiencing is a product of his own mind.

Obiageli Ezekwesili says Nigerian army has committed human rights violations in the fight against Boko Haram

Posted: 28 Apr 2015 12:27 PM PDT

Obiageli Ezekwesili, co-founder of the #BringBackOurGirls campaign, former Nigerian Minister of Education, and former World Bank vice president for Africa, tells Al Jazeera's Head to Head that Nigerian armed forces have committed human rights abuses in their fight against the violent group Boko Haram in the north of the country. "It clearly does have instances where human rights violations have happened," she says.

In this new episode of Head to Head, airing 1 May 2015 at 20.00 GMT  on Al Jazeera English, Oby, as she's affectionately referred to in Nigeria, tells host Mehdi Hasan and an audience at the Oxford Union that, a year after over 200 schoolgirls were kidnapped in Chibok, northern Nigeria, by Boko Haram, the #BringBackOurGirls campaign was not a failure. "No, I wouldn't say that we have failed. I would say that we have not been able to move the elephant."

Oby blamed the outgoing administration of President Goodluck Jonathan for its inaction and failure to rescue the young hostages, and said she thought it was still possible to defeat Boko Haram.

Known as "Madam Due Process" for her fierce anti-corruption drive, Oby founded Transparency International in 1996, was an advisor to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and served in two of his cabinets as Minister of Education and Minister of Solid Minerals between 2003 and 2007. After leaving government, Oby moved on to become vice president of the World Bank for Africa, where she stayed until 2012.  More recently she coined the phrase "Bring Back Our Girls," which turned into a world-famous Twitter-hashtag campaign.

Questioned by Hasan about endemic corruption in Nigeria, Oby said her country has a "political class problem," but refused to condemn her former boss and mentor President Olusegun Obasanjo, who ruled between 1999 and 2007.

Under pressure by Hasan, she conceded Obasanjo was "aware of the elements of corruption, and it was his responsibility to tackle" them, but categorically denied he was corrupt himself. "Of course it [the government] was [corrupt]! [But] There was no way it could have been more corrupt than the government of Abacha," she said, referring to the military dictatorship of Sani Abacha that preceded Obasanjo's rule. Oby lamented that the government she was part of was not able to "succeed fully" in tackling corruption, and defended her own track record, saying she had not been "window dressing" for a corrupt regime and insisting - despite holding two ministerial positions in the Nigerian government, being an advisor to presidents and holding high office at the World Bank – that she was not a politician.

During the interview, Ezekwesili and Hasan discussed whether widespread poverty, inequality and corruption are at the root of the brutal Boko Haram insurgency, and debated whether World Bank policies have helped or hurt Africa's development.

Challenged over the effects of Word Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) conditionalities for African countries, Oby told Hasan she would "define an exit date" for both institutions. When pressed about setting the exit date, she said she stuck to her 2008 suggestion of a 25 year deadline by 2033.

Hasan is joined by a panel of three experts:  Priscilla Nwikpo, a British-Nigerian broadcaster and commentator; Richard Itaman, a Nigerian economist and researcher at the University of London, School of Oriental and African Studies; and Richard Dowden, executive director of the Royal African Society in the UK and former correspondent for The Economist.

In each episode, Hasan goes head to head with a special guest, asking the probing and hard-hitting questions few dare to ask on the big issues such faith, foreign intervention, the Middle East, US foreign policy, and the economic crisis.

The interview with Ezekwesili is part of the fourth series of Head to Head, which is Al Jazeera's forum for ideas, hosted by Mehdi Hasan. The fourth series saw Hasan interview former NATO boss Anders Fogh Rasmussen, former head of Pakistani Intelligence Agency ISI Gen. Asad Durrani, and Israeli historian and anti-Semitism expert Robert S. Wistrich.

Nigeria: Failed state or African superpower? with Obiageli Ezekwesili will be broadcast on 1 May 2015 at 20.00 GMT and will be repeated on 2 May at 12.00 GMT, 3 May at 01.00 GMT and 4 May at 06.00 GMT

Wendy Williams speaks on the Bruce Jenner interview

Posted: 28 Apr 2015 10:25 AM PDT

A lot of people have been waiting for Wendy's opinion on the Bruce Jenner interview and on her show yesterday, she spoke about it...but she kinda backtracked a bit from her initial bashing of Bruce saying instead that the interview made her cry and called him brave. But Wendy being Wendy, she wasn't all positive. After commending Bruce, she called him 'Fame hungry'...
"I'm happy for Bruce, I'm happy for anybody who can live in their own truth. And yeah, he's brave because his life will never be the same. He will be haunted like a wild dog for the rest of his life. The thing about Bruce is that it was all so deceptive because he really is a fame hungry person like the rest of the family."

Drama ensued at the Ejigbo Magistrate court in Lagos State today when a self-professed prophet, Destiny Onwudinjo, who is on trial for assault and obtaining money under false pretense suddenly jumped from the dock and ran out of the court today April 28th.

According to PM News, Prophet Onwudinjo was arrested by the police at Shasha Division for brutalizing a commercial motorcycle rider, Chika Izuogu pictured above for refusing to pay him N120,000 for deliverance prayer.

While testifying in court, Chika, the motorcycle driver, said Destiny met him along Olukosi Street, Shasha, Lagos and told him that he had a revelation from God and that he needed to embark on seven days deliverance prayer so that his condition would improve for the better. Prophet Destiny explained to him that the money he asked him to pay covered the fasting and other spiritual materials he would use for the deliverance. He told him that he will receive a divine blessing from God as an unknown person will give him N3 million he would use to start a new life and become rich. Chika however told Prophet Destiny that he will conduct the prayers himself as he does not have any money to give him. This angered Prophet Destiny who immediately started beating him up. Prophet Destiny was arrested and charged to court with an attempt to obtain money under false pretence and assault.

During court proceedings today, he jumped out of the dock and started running. He was later apprehended.

Nigerian man arraigned in UK court for stealing mobile phones

Posted: 28 Apr 2015 07:02 AM PDT

A 27 year old Nigerian man, Oloruntoba Adisa who worked as a bouncer in clubs in the UK has been arraigned before a UK court for stealing phones from clients who came to the club where he worked.

According to Manchester Evening News, Oloruntoba has a history with the UK law enforcement officers with crimes bordering on stealing phones and money from some club goers. Few months ago, Oloruntoba was caught on CCTV stealing a Samsung S3 and £90 from a woman who had come clubbing. He hid the items in his coat and a search carried out by the club management showed he had 2 iphones stolen from other customers hidden in his coat.

Some months ago, he reportedly stole a man's phone and called the man afterwards demanding for £150 in exchange for his phone. He was convicted in 2005 for stealing from his employee. Police believe Oloruntoba had sold over 300 phones on online market, Gumtree.

He now works in customer services for Transport for Greater Manchester and Judge David Hernandez, sentencing, sought assurances that he would not be in contact with customer's property.

Giving him six-months jail, suspended for a year, with 40 hours unpaid work, and an order to pay £500 compensation to his latest victim, Judge Hernandez told him: "I hadn't thought I'd be seeing you again. But here you are, standing in the dock in relation to another offence of theft of a mobile phone".

Photos: Chaos in Onitsha after police man shoots driver dead

Posted: 28 Apr 2015 07:02 AM PDT

Yesterday, a policeman allegedly shot dead a 'Hero' beer truck driver during a road rage in Onitsha, Anambra state. According to eye-witnesses, the truck driver had parked his truck in a manner the policeman said was disturbing other road users. The policeman who was part of an escort van came down from his police vehicle, approached the truck and an argument ensued. For reasons best known to the police officer, he opened fire and shot dead the truck driver.

This morning, an angry mob, including truck drivers and conductors came out in their numbers to protest the death of their colleague. They burnt tyres and blocked the gate leading to the company where the policeman worked. When the protest seemed to be getting out of hand, the army had to be called in and they came with an armored tank. See the photos after the cut...
