| 2000 Boko Haram members storm Marte in Borno, capture town Posted: 25 Apr 2015 07:15 AM PDT  A resident of the village, Imamu Habib, narrating what happened said; "The terrorists, numbering over 2,000, appeared from various directions on Thursday and engaged the soldiers in Kirenowa town and adjoining communities in Marte. They fought with soldiers over the night and the fight continued today (Friday), forcing hundreds of soldiers to flee" he said.Many people were killed during the shootout while many homes were destroyed. Marte town, which is believed to be rich in oil due to its proximity to Lake Chad, has been attacked twice by the sect members. They first captured the town in 2012 but were chased out by Nigerian troops shortly after the declaration of state of emergency in Borno state in 2013. They also attempted to take over the town the second time in 2014 but were forced out by Nigerian troops. | ||

| Nigerian woman arrested for stabbing her husband to death in the US Posted: 25 Apr 2015 05:38 AM PDT   The woman accused her husband of constant abuse and claimed he cheated on her with several women including her sister and their nanny's daughter. According to Delaware Online, neighbors alerted the police after screams and shouting was heard emanating from the couple's home in the 1300 block of Healy Courton in New castle on Thursday April 23rd. When the police got to their home, they found Adeyinka in the pool of his blood with a 4 inch single stab wound just below his neck which severed his carotid artery and jugular vein. Temitope told the police during interrogation that she and her late husband had been married for 10 years with two children and he'd abused her for most of their marriage. She said the real trouble between them started when she found out her husband was sleeping with her own sister as well as the daughter of their nanny and other women. She said that the nanny had lived with them for two years. Temitope also told investigators her husband had sent her to Nigeria for several months and after returning in December, she had to stay in a hotel near the Philadelphia airport for four days because her husband refused to let her into their Red Lion home. He then paid for her to fly back to Nigeria for a few more months, according to documents. About this time, she learned that her husband had spent Christmas with the nanny's daughter. The husband later flew out to Nigeria and flew back with her to Philadelphia. As he showed her the cameras inside their home over his cellphone, Temitope saw the nanny's daughter inside the home, documents claim. At one point, Temitope saw several texts and images in her husband's phone, which she took pictures of using her cellphone. Some of the pictures included images of her sister and the nanny's daughter. The documents do not detail the images beyond that. As the investigation drew to the night before the killing, police learned the couple had been talking and watching television on the couch about 9 p.m. Wednesday. Temitope and her husband began arguing after he discovered the photos she'd taken on her cellphone and he began erasing them, according to court papers. As he yelled at her, Temitope told police there was a power outage at which time she went to the kitchen until power returned, according to documents. Investigators checked with Delmarva Power, which indicated no such power outage occurred at that time, police said. Temitope then told police that when the power returned, she found her husband in the first-floor bedroom lying in the bed. As she got closer to him, she saw a knife on the ground which she picked up and took to the kitchen. according to documents. As she put it away, she noticed blood on the tip and that's when she realized that he was stabbed, the papers said. While not admitting to the killing, the court papers claim Temitope changed her story several times about what happened in the bedroom, including to say that she entered first and her husband followed her in with the knife but that he later dropped it. Temitope suggested that her husband stabbed himself, according to the papers. The autopsy, according to the papers, said the homicide was a single stab wound just below the victim's neck, about 2 inches off the center line. The stab was 4 inches deep and severed the victim's carotid artery and jugular vein. When police told Temitope that this was not a suicide, the woman "began nodding her head in agreement," according to court documents. Temitope was charged with first-degree murder and other charges. And she's a high school drop out and she's messing with her face and her boobs, and her behind, way to early in life. Bruce has bigger fish to fry than turning into Belinda. | Oil & Gas awards: Conoil Producing clinches 'Best Company in local Content award' Posted: 25 Apr 2015 03:55 AM PDT  The 2015 edition of Oil & Gas Awards organized by Oval Energy and Business Day Newspapers was held at the Eko Hotels and Suits in Victoria Island on Thursdaynight, with indigenous oil producing company Conoil emerging 'Best Company in Local Content'. Continental Oil & Gas, a sister company to Conoil, also won in the 'Best Company in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)' category.
According to the criteria used for selection, Conoil Producing won the Best Company in Local Content under the Sole Risk Independent Company category after meeting the required parameters such as Ratio of Nigerian to foreign contractors engaged, Nigerian Human Capacity Development Initiatives, Sponsorship and Partnerships and Number of Nigerians in Management Positions. The organizers said that Continental Oil & Gas Company won in the CSR category for being the best in terms of donations, scholarships and development of host communities and for its employees' commitment to CSR work. The awards which were broadly categorized into joint venture, Sole Risk/Independent, Marginal Field, Downstream Major Marketers, Downstream Independent Marketers and Service Sector rated the nominees according to laid down Oil & Gas industry standards. George Osahon, Director of Department of Petroleum Resources, industry regulator, gave the keynote address at the event which was largely attended by the cream of the energy, oil & gas industry. Mobil Oil, Total and Oando Plc also won in their respective categories. Publisher of BusinessDay, Frank Aigbogun, said in his remarks "the award aims to recognize, reward and celebrate excellence, innovation and contributions of individuals, organizations and institutions to the growth and development of the upstream, mid and downstream sub-sectors of the Nigerian oil and gas industry." Both Conoil Producing and Continental Oil and Gas are owned by Globacom Chairman, Dr Mike Adenuga Jr. The companies beat three other nominees in the same categories to clinch to the awards. | ||

| 19 year old Nigerian student dies at UK university school hall due to 'Helium Leak' Posted: 25 Apr 2015 03:12 AM PDT   A Nigerian student named Alexander Ukwu, 19, died on Thursday April 23rd at the University of Southampton Hartley Grove Halls due to a 'Helium Leak'. Alex, who was an alumni of Loyola Jesuit College Class of 2012, was a first year student at the UK university studying MEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering. He was found dead around 11.26am on Thursday morning inside a student halls of residence room filled with helium, according to a statement released by the university. A team of chemical experts had been called in to make sure it was safe for students who lived at the hall to go inside the building due to a large amount of helium gas inside. But when they discovered Alex's room was locked, they broke it down and discovered his body. The halls were then cordoned off until at least 3pm. Alex's death is not being treated as suspicious, though no-one else was injured or treated at the scene.  In a statement to Alexander's fellow students, Neil White, head of the electronics and computer science department, said: "I am writing to you in my capacity as Head of ECS, and with great sadness, to notify you of the death yesterday of Alexander Ukwu who was a first year student studying MEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Alexander will be sadly missed and we are in contact with his family to send our condolences and sympathy to them at this difficult time. According to Governor Obiano, he came to congratulate Buhari on his victory at the polls as well as ask him not to sideline the Igbos in the constitution of his cabinet.
