| Kashamu to Tinubu: Be a true democrat Posted: 21 Apr 2015 01:28 PM PDT  My attention has been drawn to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu's reaction to the innocuous congratulatory messages that I sent to him and other leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the aftermath of the general election. First, I must say that I doubt if the statement was approved by him. However, if it was, I must state that I am taken aback by the unwarranted attacks against me as if we were still campaigning. It is unbecoming of someone of his stature and calibre. For me, it is high time politicians and leaders rose above petty issues and raise the bar in constitutional democracy. We should not just be democrats in words but also in deeds. We should play politics without bitterness. It is on record that no Nigerian politician has taken former President Olusegun Obasanjo to the cleaners even as a sitting President like Asiwaju Tinubu did. Yet, Chief Obasanjo forgave him. As for me and Baba Obasanjo, he remains my father and leader, just as I am his son and follower. At no time did I abuse Gen. Muhammadu Buhari. As a true party man, I campaigned vigorously for my party and its candidates. Now, the elections are over, and as a true sportsman, I thought I should congratulate those who won. Short of any praise-singing, what I said in the congratulatory message that they chose to react to a week after it published was that there was no way anyone can wish away the achievements of Asiwaju Tinubu in the nation's political annals, particularly in Yoruba land. Part of the message also reads: "Although I now belong to the opposition, your achievements transcend political divides and I am not ashamed to publicly acknowledge them. "I salute your courage, commitment, doggedness, forthrightness and tenacity of purpose even in the face of daunting opposition and challenges. "By your sheer wit and unwavering commitment to democratic ethos, true federalism and economic prosperity, you led the Alliance for Democracy (AD) from a one-party state to a regional party, and now a national party that is about to form the government at the centre." Now, how do these translate to praise-singing? Are they not facts of history that I merely adumbrated? He accused me of purchasing my election with money, the appropriate forum to prove that is the election petitions tribunal and not the pages of newspaper. On the U.S case, I wish to state for the umpteenth time that the United States as the bastion of democracy and the Rule of Law would not lend itself to any form of abuse of the fundamental human rights of an innocent soul, especially one that has been arrested, tried and freed by its most trusted ally – the United Kingdom. I am not running from any trial. All I have asked is for the relevant parties to follow due process – if they believe that I yet have a case to answer. I believe in the supremacy of the almighty Allah who frustrates the signs of liars and makes fools of diviners, who turns wise men back and makes their knowledge foolish. He is the ultimate decider of the fate of all mortals. When He says yes, no man can say no and when He says no, no man can say yes! I stand with the almighty Allah Subhana Wa Tala. | Gunmen kill El-Rufai's campaign coordinator in Kaduna Posted: 21 Apr 2015 01:06 PM PDT  In a statement released by Mallam El Rufai's spokesman, Samuel Aruwan, he said Ishaya, who was El-Rufai's coordinator in Atuku ward in the state, was trailed to his village by 2 gunmen and was shot severally. "His family informed us that unknown gunmen stormed his residence and shot him several times. The men, two in number, were well armed and did not pick any property in his residence except carrying out the ungodly act. The Police have confirmed the incident. The Police have also visited the scene of the crime and have commenced investigation. While we appreciate their prompt action, our expectation is that the security agencies will fully investigate this killing and prosecute the perpetrators. | Stop the attacks or face our wrath - OPC threatens South Africa Posted: 21 Apr 2015 11:24 AM PDT  The Oodua People's Congress, OPC. has given a 48-hour ultimatum to the South African government to stop the xenophobic attacks going on their country or incur the wrath of the group. At a press conference in Lagos today April 21st, the founder of the group, Dr Frederick Fasheun warned that nobody has the monopoly of violence. "While the Nigerian government and the rest of the world seek a diplomatic solution to this season of madness, the OPC hereby warns that South Africa must end this rash of xenophobia within 48 hours. These ill-advised attacks are capable of bringing out the beast in the best of men. And we will not watch as fellow Nigerians are wantonly killed in cold blood. Enough is enough. South Africans must know that nobody has a monopoly of violence. They must halt the killings, the maiming and the looting of foreigners' shops in their country. These incidents of xenophobia will provoke reprisals against South Africans and their interests in other lands. | Group hails IGP sack, says "he collaborated with APC to subvert Posted: 21 Apr 2015 09:03 AM PDT  A pressure group in Ekiti State, the Ekiti Democratic Coalition (EDC) has hailed the removal of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Suleiman Abba, accusing the sacked IGP of collaborating with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to subvert the mandate of Ekiti people freely given to Governor Ayodele Fayose. Reacting to the sack of Suleiman Abba, EDC, in a statement signed by its Convener, Comrade Boladale Adeniyi, alleged that the sacked IGP and the immediate past Commissioner of Police in the State, Taiwo Lakanu aided the APC lawmakers in their evil plot to remove Governor Fayose.The group alleged that Suleiman Abba was to be used by the APC to subvert democracy in Ekiti and some other PDP controlled States. "Lakanu was removed unceremoniously as Ekiti State Commissioner of Police. Now, Suleiman Abba too has been sacked. "The major lesson to be learnt here is that Fayose's mandate is being guarded by God and He is ready to humiliate anyone working against the people's governor," EDC said. The group warned the APC lawmakers to tread the path of peace and development rather than advertising their hatred for Ekiti and its people. It said; "If you were using Lakanu against Ekiti people and Lakanu was removed, you were also using IGP Suleiman Abba, he has now been sacked, shouldn't it be clear to those plotting against Fayose that they are hitting their heads against Ekiti rocks?
