Omotola who was visiting the city for the very first time, wore a black jump suit, gold accessories and jewelry. The star studded birthday party of Master Richard Efe . E . | Posted: 06 Dec 2015 07:38 AM PST  Ekiti State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Owoseni Ajayi has expressed concern over the Anti-Media Bill proposed by All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator, Bala Ibn Na'allah, saying; the National Assembly must not allow itself to be used to bring back Decree 4 that was used against the press between 1984 and 1985 that President Buhari was military Head of State and the Sedition Law that the British Colonial Masters used against our fathers, who fought for the independence of Nigeria.The Attorney-General, who declared that holders of public offices must be answerable to the people at all times, added that; "those of us holding public offices must be mindful of the temptation of seeing ourselves as being above the people. We are not God that cannot be questioned. In fact, nothing should be private about us that the public must not know." In a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday, Owoseni Ajayi, who said the Ekiti State government was against the bill in its entirety, noted that; "that bill proposed by Senator Bala Ibn Na'allah is not different from Buhari's Protection Against False Accusations Decree 4 of 1984, which was considered as the most repressive press law ever enacted in Nigeria." He said Nigerians were not unmindful of the fact that the APC rode to power on the back of free press and credible electoral process that was allowed by the Peoples Democratic Government of Dr Goodluck Jonathan, adding that; "the APC as a party must be ready to accommodate even more than the media attacks it gave PDP when it was in the opposition." The Commissioner for Justice said; "Isn't it funny that the same media, especially the social media that the APC used against the PDP has now become an enemy that the APC led federal government is desperate to suppress? What are they afraid of? "It is painful that anyone could bring such bill to the Senate, and even more painful that the bill was allowed to pass through the first reading. "However, let those seeing the bill as a means of protecting themselves realise that they won't be in power forever. They should therefore refrain themselves from acts capable of taking Nigeria back to those years of dictatorship that journalists were jailed indiscriminately and media houses shut for years. They should remember Tunde Thompson and Nduka Irabor of The Guardian newspapers. "Most importantly, the Senate should be mindful of the fact that the offences the proposed bill seeks to criminalise already exist under Nigerian laws, including those on treason, defamation and libel. "Lastly, let those supporting the obnoxious bill know that under a democratic government, there cannot be criminal libel or defamation. There can also not be a return of Decree 4 of 1984 and the Sedition Law of the Colonial days." |

| Hard times to hit Nigerian illegal immigrants in the UK Posted: 06 Dec 2015 05:22 AM PST  The UK government announced yesterday that these 'right to rent' rules will be introduced for all new tenancy agreements from 1 February 2016 in England. It's part of the UK's new immigration bill which is currently going through parliament. Under the scheme, Landlords are also required to report any suspicious behaviour from tenants to the Home Office. They also introduced extra rules that will make it easier for landlords to evict tenants who are already occupying their properties if they don't have a right to remain in the UK or lose their rights to stay in the UK |

| Photo: 54 year old man arrested by RRS for swindling Lagosians Posted: 06 Dec 2015 05:02 AM PST  A 54-year-old man, Michael Bisa, who is an expert in swindling members of the public by disguising to be selling a mobile phone, was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS). He was arrested along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway over the weekend at about 17:50 hours when the police suspected his movement on sighting him. Items such as fake phones, key soap cut to size, shirts, sum amount of money, packet of envelopes and cut to size cartons were recovered from him. He is a native of Delta State and confessed to the crime. He claimed that it was poverty that led him into the act of defrauding innocent public. He explained the tactics that he uses to swindle his victims under false pretense, "What I usually do is called Exchange. My prospective victims will have the mind of buying handset from me but unknowingly to them I would have changed the real handset to soap wrapped with cut to size carton put inside an envelope. I will engage them in discussion after showing them real phone initially, and in the process of bargaining for the price, I will change it with the aid of white handkerchief to fake phone. And I will tell them to keep the phone inside their pockets immediately that people are watching us…. He narrated further", As soon as they left the spot, I will change my clothe to another for uneasy recognition in case he discovers the trick in miles away that he has been duped." The suspect, who had fathered four children from three different women, further explained "I was a refrigerator technician in Uvwie LGA, Effuru in Delta State. I came to Lagos to look for greener pastures about 15 years ago, but my expectations were dashed when situations got so hard for me in the center of excellence. I met one guy then, Hakeem Tijani, he is late now, and he was the one that introduced this act of stealing to me. Since that time, about 4 years ago now, this act of stealing has been my only source of livelihood… My first wife taught me how to smoke all sorts of hard drugs including cocaine. She died sometimes ago from the complications she suffered due to much intake of hard drug", he said. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP Joe Offor, warned the general public to be weary of individuals and shops where they purchase their mobile phones in order not to fall victim of con men. The suspect was charged to court immediately. |

| Photos: Commuter train slams into passenger bus, killing 14 and injuring 10 in Indonesia Posted: 06 Dec 2015 02:55 AM PST  According to Tambora neighbourhood police chief, Wirdhanto, the bus driver ignored the warning signals when he crossed the rail tracks and was rammed by the train. Wirdhanto said that 13 people died instantly while one died in a hospital. He added that none of passengers on the train headed to Jakarta's neighbouring town of Bogor with about 400 passengers, were hurt.      |

| Declaring Bello Kogi Governor, A Waste of Time’- PDP Posted: 06 Dec 2015 01:52 AM PST  The Peoples Democratic Party PDP describes as a waste of time, scarce national resources and ridiculous shadow-chasing, the action of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC in declaring one Yahaya Bello, purported to be of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and who did not participate in the overall election, as Kogi state Governor-elect.The PDP said INEC, in the bid to satisfy the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC Federal Government, succeeded only in making a mockery of itself and the entire electoral process, by trying to illegally install an individual who, apart from not being a valid candidate, scored, under his name, a paltry 6885 vote in the so-called supplementary election as against the 204,877 votes polled by the PDP candidate, Governor Idris Wada in the overall election. PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh in a statement on Sunday said "the action of INEC in trying to transfer the votes earlier garnered by the dead APC candidate, Prince Audu Abubakar to another individual is completely impractical and alien to the nation's Constitution and the Electoral Act." "The declaration by INEC that one Yahaya Bello polled the highest number of votes is an embarrassing travesty of the nation's democracy and electoral process. Not only that this individual is not in anyway a valid candidate in the election, he also did not score the overall votes declared against his name by INEC and cannot be declared winner under any circumstance within the provisions of our laws. "The provisions of the constitution and the electoral act are clear to the effect that with the unfortunate death of Prince Abubakar Audu before the conclusion of the election, and the fact that the laws do not permit the replacement of candidates once the balloting has commenced, the APC crashed out of the race, leaving the PDP candidate, Governor Idris Wada as the clear winner, having garnered 204,877 votes to top all other contestants since, Prince Ababakar, the hitherto leading contestant died with his votes. "It is therefore unfortunate that INEC disregarded the provisions of the Constitution and the Electoral Act, which left it with no other legitimate option than to declare Governor Idris Wada the governor-elect. Instead, it went ahead to preside over a charade, for which it is now attempting to illicitly handover the vote cast for a dead man to another person, who did not participate in the overall election. "We all, including INEC and the APC know that nothing other than declaring Governor Idris Wada winner of the election fulfills the requirements of the law under the circumstance. APC cannot have two candidates in one election and the bitter in-fighting within their fold shows the absurdity of INEC's decision in that regard. Indeed, we remain shocked that INEC could elect to create such embarrassing and inciting setting just to show its 'friendship' with the ruling government. "Our advise to the APC, Yahaya Bello and their co-travellers in illegality is that theirs is a mere pipe dream as Governor Wada remains validly elected within the dictates of our laws under the circumstance. "Finally, we charge all our members and supporters to remain calm and resist all provocations from the APC, which is now seeking the opportunity to trigger violence in the face of their misfortune, especially as the law will soon take the center stage, right the wrong created by INEC and declare Governor Wada winner."
