| Photos of the Policeman who was reinstated & promoted by the Senate after 21yrs suspension Posted: 17 Dec 2015 11:47 AM PST   This follows the consideration and adoption of recommendations of the Report of the Senator Sam Anyanwu-led Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petition that investigated the suspension of Sgt. Olaniyan from the Force. The Senate adopted the two recommendations of the committee namely: "That the officer, Sergeant Amos Olaniyan, be fully re-integrated into the Police Force with a letter of reinstatement and apology" and "That all his dues including promotions and entitlements be fully granted and paid" Senator Adeola while presenting the petition earlier stated that Sgt. Olaniyan was verbally suspended in 1994 on a baseless allegation of bribery which, an Orderly Room Trial discharged and acquitted him but the Police refused to recall him back even as he had his Police ID card and Uniform. Reacting to the findings and resolution of the Senate, Senator Adeola expressed joy that at last justice has been done to his constituent, who had suffered for 21 years without any redress adding that he will always fight for the interest of all his constituents and the people of Nigeria. "I was greatly disturbed when I saw his petition as I did not believe this could happen to any citizen of Nigeria. This was after he had written petitions to previous Inspector Generals of Police and the Police Service Commission and even late President Umaru Yar'adua to no avail," the senator stated. He said he was happy for the family of Sgt. Olaniyan who had endure severe hardship and deprivation on the loss of employment by the breadwinner adding that he will continue to work for his constituents who may have similar cases. Speaking on the issue, Senate President Bukola Saraki, stated that citizens of Nigeria that cannot afford legal fees to seek redress should have recourse to the Senate adding that the Senate Police Affairs Committee should ensure compliance with the resolution and other similar resolutions and report back to the Senate in two weeks. |

| MTN takes Nigerian Government to court over fine Posted: 17 Dec 2015 08:22 AM PST  Herewith a further update on the fine imposed on MTN Nigeria and renewal of cautionary announcement: Further to the SENS announcement issued by the Company on 4 December 2015, shareholders are advised that all factors having a bearing on the matter have been thoroughly and carefully considered including a review of the circumstances leading to the fine and the subsequent letters received from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). Accordingly MTN has followed due process and has instructed its lawyers to proceed with an action in the Federal High Court in Lagos seeking the appropriate reliefs. MTN is advised that in the current circumstances in line with the lis pendens rule (pending legal action) the parties are enjoined to restrain from taking further action until the matter is finally determined.This is consistent with previous judicial decisions in Nigeria. Notwithstanding this action, the Company will continue to engage with the Nigerian Authorities to try and ensure an amicable resolution in the best interests of the Company, its stakeholders and the Nigerian Authorities Shareholders are therefore advised to continue to exercise caution when dealing in the Company's securities until a further announcement is made. | Photos: High security Alert at Niger bridge, Onitsha Posted: 17 Dec 2015 08:00 AM PST  This afternoon, heavy traffic was witnessed around the Niger bridge in Onitsha as a result of the security measures put in place to curb the activities of pro-biafra protesters. People had to walk with both hands up and many were subjected to stop and search before they were allowed to cross the bridge. Security agencies, including the Nigerian Police, the Military and road safety are still present there to control the movement of people and vehicles respectively.  |

| Breaking news: Jose Mourinho sacked as Chelsea manager Posted: 17 Dec 2015 07:29 AM PST  Abramovich could be forced to pay Mourinho more than £40million after the Portuguese manager signed a four-year deal this summer. Guus Hiddink could be lined up as the next replacement.  Mourinho lost support within the Chelsea hierarchy after his bust-up with former club doctor Eva Carneiro during the 2-2 draw with Swansea on the opening day of the season. Stars of last season's campaign including Eden Hazard, Nemanja Matic and Cesar Azpilicueta have been criticized by their manager in front of their peers, leading to splits in the camp. This was Mourinho's second spell in charge of Chelsea and he was sorely disappointed with his players after Chelsea's 9th loss of the season to Leicester. After the game,he told the press; 'Sometimes I find myself thinking last season I did an amazing job, brought players to a level not their level. If this is true I brought to such a level they couldn't keep for more than super-motivation to be leading. That is one possibility.'"One of my best qualities is that I can read the game and identify the strengths of the opponent and tell my players what they are," Mourinho said. "So it it is a big frustration to accept the goals because my work was betrayed, if that is the right word. "I worked four days in this match. I prepared everything related to the opponent. I identify four movements where they scored almost every their goals. "My players got all that information in last three days, you can ask them, they are honest guys who will tell you it is true. "But in the situations I identify, we concede the first and second goal. The mistakes were there." Despite his decision to publicly criticise his players for failing to stick to the game plan, Mourinho insisted he was ready to fight on as manager. "The only thing I can say is that I want to be (the manager.)" Mourinho said. "I have no doubts and I think that you know me well enough, six years here, that I am not afraid of a big challenge. "At this moment, it is a real big challenge and I want to stay. I hope Mr Abramovich and the board want me to stay. "I know that the board wants the best for this club. I would like the board to analyse the situation, the budget, the balance of the club and what they were expecting." With Chelsea now hovering just one point above the relegation zone,the club's board decided to act. |
