Posted: 19 Dec 2015 12:27 PM PST No, she's not dead...just seriously injured. Miriam Gakenia,31, and her fiance James Mwangi, 27, had gone to buy wedding items but were injured in a road accident at Kiangwachi area along Nyeri-Nairobi highway on Tuesday, December 15. Their wedding was to take place at Dominion Towers Deliverance Church today, Saturday December 19. Gakenia suffered a right hip joint injury and a broken right arm while Mwangi's right hand was injured. He had been treated and discharged but she could neither sit nor stand. The couple exchanged their vows at Outspan hospital today, with nurses as her bridesmaids. "The wedding had to go on. We had prepared for six months. The devil was not going to get in the way. She would have become my wife even if she had lost her legs," Mwangi explained. Gakenia said from her hospital bed: "I informed my doctor of the wedding and told him we were not ready to postpone it." She said the hospital agreed to hold the wedding on its grounds. Nurses and matron Jane Wamucii escorted her to the location on her bed. Gakenia and Mwangi had difficulties putting on their wedding rings as their hands were in casts but they exchanged their vows in what Reverend Stephen Mungai described as "a first in Nyeri". It was also difficult for them to sign their marriage certificate and to share their wedding cake, but these paled in comparison to the exchange of vows at the emotional ceremony. "I have never conducted such a wedding. It shows far love can go. It is a lesson in sticking with your vision regardless of hurdles, and eventually reaching your destination," the reverend said. The couple did not have a photo shoot after the wedding but was taken to a private room at the hospital where Mwangi sat by Gakenia's bed for hours. Gakenia, a system administrator at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology, will remain at the hospital for six weeks. |

GIGM unveils new logo, Jibowu terminal Posted: 19 Dec 2015 12:11 PM PST God Is Good Motors Limited, (GIGM) one of the nation's leading transport companies on Thursday unveiled its new logo, GIGM.com, and new ultra-modern terminus located in Jibowu part of Lagos state. The new terminal, with state of the art facilities, is one of its kind in Nigeria and mostly tech driven with self-help services to make booking and seat reservations easier and more convenient for travellers. Speaking during the event, chairman/chief executive officer of the company, Mr Chidi Odiase Ajaere said that the unveiling of the new GIGM.com logo and the K.O Iheme Jibowu terminal is about re-positioning the company to have a worldwide appeal. He noted that because of the advent of smart technology, the world has become a global village, and the GIGM.com brand is leveraging on that by investing heavily in technology to make its operations easier, and less stressful for travellers. Ajaere who describes himself as a believer in the Nigerian project, noted that transportation business in Nigeria is a bit tough, but also interesting, adding, that there are several challenges in the business in the country including security, multiple unions and taxes. Ajaere said the new logo: GIGM.com is in keeping with the company's promise and mission to deliver innovative travel solutions, always. According to him, when he took over the reins of the company around 2009, his immediate strategy to move GIGM.com forward was to change the perception of Nigerians as regards the image of transporters, who were seen mostly as a bunch of touts. He said he was able to wipe away such image and reposition the company by rebranding it, and changing the perception of staff of themselves and how they want the travelling public to see them. "In the about six years I have been in charge of the company, I have been able to get stakeholders to buy into the vision of GIGM.com as a forward thinking company," he added. Ajaere said that GIGM.com lays a lot of emphasis on safety, which is why it spends time and resources on orienting, training and re-training drivers, and other staff associated with its buses, earning GIGM.com one of the cleanest safety records in the sector. On competition, he said the company welcomes competition but ensures it stays ahead of the pack through competitive monopoly, using technology to set the pace. According to him, feedback from the public has shown that Nigerians appreciate good things and have continued to praise the company for doing things differently from the norm. Present at the event were president, GIGM.com, Mrs. Stella Ajaere, member of the board, Uche Ajaere, Pastor Godman Akinlabi of The Elevation Church and Mr. Kennedy Iheme who the Jibowu edifice is named after. |

Photo: 12yr old Sikh boy accused of plotting to blow up his school in Texas Posted: 19 Dec 2015 04:36 AM PST In a Facebook post shared on Tuesday, December 15, Armaan Singh Sarai's cousin Ginea Haer said that a student at his school in Dallas, Texas, accused him of possessing a bomb which led to Sarai being taken out of school and sent to a juvenile detention center without his parents being told. Since then, however, Arlington, Texas, police said they indeed went to Nichols Junior High School on Friday after a student told a teacher that Sarai told him he was planning to blow up the school. Sarai's family insists he was framed. Read her post after the cut... "This goofball on the left in this picture is my 12 year old cousin, Armaan Singh Sarai. He was born and raised in Texas by a loving #Sikh family. In his spare time, he loves spending time with his family, watching tv, and playing video games. In his family, are his mom, dad, two sisters and a brother who love him more than life, after all he's the baby in the family. His family moved to Dallas, Texas about three to four months ago, and being the new kid wasn't that easy for him. It made it especially hard since he isn't able to get out much, due to a heart condition he was born with. The heart condition has led him to having three open heart surgeries, and he isn't able to do a lot of extra curricular activities. But his love from his family and friends has always been enough to keep his heart filled. His family and friends would describe to be really funny, nice, and a caring human being. On Friday, December 11th, 2015, my cousin attended school, like any other normal 12 year old child. A bully in class thought it would be funny to accuse him of having a bomb, and so the principal, without any questioning, interrogation, or notification to his parents, called the police. Worried & frightened at home, his family was concerned as to why he had not reached home right after school. They started calling every police department in the area, only to find out he was sent to a Juvenile facility. They kept him held behind bars for three consecutive days, before finally releasing him on Monday, December 15th. It hurts my heart and boils my blood that there are people stupid enough out there not only accusing us, but our innocent children of being terrorists! It sickens me even more that there are people even more stupid out there, taking their word for it. My cousin is a minor and was arrested without any evidence or guardian present! This should show you how fucked up the system is! There are good people out there, but the majority of the system is corrupt! All these bastards see is race & the color of your skin! He's more than what meets the eye people! I'm more, you're more, we're all more! The color of your skin does not define who you are! Please help share this post to open people's eyes to the fuckery that goes on in our system. Ginee Haer/Facebook |
