| Photos: Female Somali journalist killed in an explosion from a bomb planted in her car Posted: 03 Dec 2015 01:14 PM PST    "Hindiyo died at the hospital of the serious injuries she sustained, we are very sorry about her death," said Abdirahin Ise Ado, director of Radio Mogadishu. "We condemn the killing... she was dedicated to serving her county and the people," said Minister for Information Mohamed Abdi Heyr Mareye in a statement. There was no immediate claim of responsibility but Al-Qaeda's linked Al-Shabaab have been carrying out regular attacks against government officials and journalists. Mohamed left behind a son.   |

| Northern governors condemn Pro-Biafran attacks Posted: 03 Dec 2015 12:51 PM PST  Rising from a meeting in Borno state today, the governors said Nigerians had no reason to fight themselves at this time when we should join hands to fight the number one enemy of our country which is Boko Haram. Borno state governor, Kshim Shettima who leads the group of Governors, said this in a statement he released through his media aide, Isa Gusau. The statement in part read; "We condemn the Wednesday crisis in very strong term. We have been in touch with one another today. The Governors of major cities in the north in particular, have been in critical touch to share thoughts and we have collectively taken firm measures to ensure that the violence doesn't spread to any part of the 19 northern States and we will also be working with our colleagues in the south to nip the crisis in the bud but we will not disclose the measures we have taken so that those who may want to take advantage of the Onitsha mayhem don't know our strategies. However, it is surprising to the Northern States Governors Forum that any Nigerian at all can even contemplate any kind of violence when we already have serious problems of Boko Haram insurgents that are killing Muslims and Christians, killing northerners and southerners, attacking Mosques, Churches and markets, in an effort to kill all of us that do not subscribe to their interpretation of Islam. We have Boko Haram that kill Hausa, Fulani, Ibo, Yoruba, Kanuri, Ijaw and anyone they are able to come across. We thought that the existence of Boko Haram should have been enough to make all Nigerians fuse into one and fight a common enemy. It is really sad that any Nigerian can contemplate violence. We are not blaming any individual or group because there are security agencies whose job it is to safeguard lives and property and do investigations where necessary, we will not go into their duties. We beg all Nigerians to be calm and go about their duties in peace. We have got more than enough problems to worry about. We can't afford any distraction that will shift our focus from the bigger problems of Boko Haram that has an ambition of sending the human race into extinction. We urge all Nigerians to be calm. We particularly call on all Nigerians living in the northern states not to pay attention to differences in religion and ethnicity but rather, should see each other as Nigerians with equal residential rights and fundamental human rights that include freedom to lawfully reside anywhere in Nigeria, freedom of worship, movement, trade, association, education, healthcare and other rights as provided by the Nigerian constitution. We particularly call on our youths not to allow anyone use them for any purpose because youths have suffered more than any other age category from the hands of Boko Haram insurgents and that is more than enough. Our focus should be on how to end the Boko Haram insurgency and not to be driven into any other crisis. We have suffered too much, we must say no to any crisis. As heads of Government of the 19 northern states, we will by the grace of God, do everything humanly possible to ensure that no resident, regardless of his or her ethno-religious background, is denied any of these rights. As Nigerians, we are one, we need one another and we must live as one people," |
| Court sentences man to death by hanging for robbing 3 people of N14,570 Posted: 03 Dec 2015 12:47 PM PST  The presiding judge, Justice John Adeyeye while delivering judgement said "An accused may be convicted on his own confession alone as long as the court was satisfied. Based on the confessional statement of the accused, the court found him guilty as charged. Besides, the prosecution has also proved his case beyond reasonable doubt by providing seven witnesses. The accused is hereby sentenced to death by hanging. This will serve as deterrent to others in the society. May God have mercy on your soul," he said. According to a report by Tribune Newspapers , the prosecutor, Alaba Adeyemi, told the court that the convict armed with weapons including gun and cutlass, robbed three people, specifically robbed Kola Owolabi of N8,000, Beatrice Olawumi, N5,000 and Idowu Abiodun, N1,570. Seven witnesses where provided to prove the case. The convict pleaded guilty to the charge and also confessed to have been involved in series of robberies. The convict confessed to have joined a gang when he was in a prison. |
| Turkey will 'more than once' regret shooting down Russian plane - Putin Posted: 03 Dec 2015 12:42 PM PST  Delivering his annual state of the nation address today, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia will not ignore what he described as Turkey's "aiding of terrorists", adding that the November shooting down of the Sukhoi Su-24 plane was a "treacherous war crime". He said Turkey will 'more than once' regret shooting down the Russian jet near the Syrian-Turkey border. Putin also called for a broad international front against terrorism, an end to what he called double standards and halting any backing of what he called "terror groups". Russia have already banned importation of fruits and vegetables from Turkey and already deported several Turkish business men. "We are not planning to engage in military sabre-rattling [with Turkey]," Putin said. "If somebody thought that after committing a treacherous war crime -- the killing of our people -- it would be possible to get away with mere restrictions on the trade of tomatoes, or some other restrictions ... then they are grossly mistaken," Putin said. "We shall remind them many times about what they've done, and they will regret what they've done for a long time," he said. "We know what needs to be done." It appears that Allah decided to punish the ruling clique of Turkey by depriving them of wisdom and judgment," Putin said. He criticised Turkey, accusing it of buying oil from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group. |

| Chinese vendors dye dogs to look like tigers but it doesn't always end well Posted: 03 Dec 2015 11:50 AM PST   A resident, surnamed Li, from the Yongchuan district of Chonqing in central China spotted a vendor selling the unusual-looking animals in a local park, reports People's Daily Online. Li said the 'tiger dogs' on display were attractive with golden and black stripes but phoned local reporters to investigate what he realised was a cruel practice. Symptoms of the ink poisoning include extreme lethargy, a runny nose and a refusal to eat anything before the animals die a painful death. Elisa Allen, associate director at PETA, said: 'Dogs are smart, complex animals, not toys. There is no safe way to dye a dog or any other animal.'   'There will always be risks of toxic poisoning... Putting a dog's health at risk by treating a companion animal like a novelty trinket is both unethical and unnecessary.' |

| Dasuki denies implicating anyone in the $2.1bn arms deal Posted: 03 Dec 2015 09:28 AM PST  Former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd), has denied ever making statement implicating anyone or group in the allegation of $2billion arms purchase deal brought against him by the federal government. Dasuki, who spoke through his lawyer, Mr. Ahmed Raji, a senior advocate said he never made such statement or name anyone to EFCC and wondered where the authors got their information from."I was with Dasuki yesterday and wish to make categorical statement that my client never made any statement of such nature or naming anybody or group in any statement. "Quote me anywhere, Dasuki has not done anything like that. It is absolutely untrue. It is the figment of the imagination of the authors aimed at creating falsehood for reasons best known to them and Nigerians should disregard them. "They are just out to scandalise the man, bring his image and character into disrepute so that his friends and well wishers can run away from him. They want him deserted and that will fail", Raji said. Meanwhile, PRNigeria has gathered that not all funds in Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) are related to arm procurement as being alleged. The ONSA manages several funds for national security and other special interventions which are not related to Boko Haram or arm procurement. They include recurrent expenditures and miscellaneous expenses under Special Service Office (SSO) to fund special projects and programmes including capacity building, refreshment, travelling, office maintenance, crisis communication and supports to special causes and Non-Governmental Organisations. "Most of the figures being bandied were taken from the special funds meant for the purposes that they were spent and not on the so-called arm-deal." "All over the world, there are lots of expenditures of national security and sensitive matters that are not ridiculed in the Press." During today's proceedings in court, the federal government appointed a private legal practitioner, Mr. Oladipupo Okpeseyitan, SAN, to prosecute Dasuki. Okpeseyitan after announcing his appearance told the trial judge, Justice Adeniyi Ademola that he had filed a motion for stay of execution of the ruling of the court which granted Dasuki permission to seek medical treatment. He applied to the court to put the ruling on hold pending the outcome of the appeal in the matter. Raji in his reply told the court that he had just been served with the motion in court, adding that he needed time to respond to the motion. The case has been fixed for December 8, 2015 for hearing. |

| Photo: EFCC arraigns man for N12m Fraud Posted: 03 Dec 2015 08:36 AM PST  The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 arraigned one Ibrahim Isah before Justice M.A Nasir of the Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Jabi, Abuja on a 3-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust and forgery. Ibrahim allegedly defrauded one Chief Ogwu Onoja (SAN) by offering to assist him in the payment of fees and processing of Certificate of Occupancy in respect of Mighty Star Academy.The defendant was allegedly entrusted with the total sum of N12,102,824.00 (twelve million, one hundred and two thousand, eight hundred and twenty four naira) to process the document with the assurance that it will be ready in three months. The accused person took the money and has been keeping the victim's hope hanging for over three and a half years. The accused pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him. In view of his plea, counsel to the EFCC, Msuur Denga asked the court to fix a date for trial to commence. Responding, the defence counsel, Princley Uchechukwu, through an oral application, urged the court to admit the accused to bail adding that, he would not do anything to frustrate his trial. Justice Nasir adjourned the case January 25, 2016 for commencement of trial and ordered the defence to file a formal bail application.
