| Bill Gates offers Nigeria, other countries N8billion to fight Ebola Posted: 10 Sep 2014 11:48 AM PDT   Announcing this in a statement issued today September 10th, the foundation said the money will be immediately released to the United Nations agencies and international organizations that are involved in the Ebola fight to enable them and national governments purchase needed supplies and scale up emergency operations. Th foundation also announced the immediate release of an additional $2million to the various Centres for Disease Control and Prevention to support incident management, treatment, and health care system strengthening during this epidemic. The foundation also pledged to work with private and public organizations to facilitate the speedy development of therapies, vaccines, and diagnostics that could be effective in treating patients and preventing further transmission of the disease. |

| Inside the exotic wedding of Senator Florence Ita Giwa's daughter Posted: 10 Sep 2014 09:29 AM PDT   The first daughter of Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, Koko Florence Mayen, is getting married on Sept. 13th (traditional wedding) and Sept. 20th (white wedding) to her heartthrob Chimaobi Shawcross Obioha Jnr and according to Encomium magazine, the millionaire businesswoman is planning the wedding of the year that will cost millions of Naira. According to the magazine, the wedding will hold at Methodist Church of the Trinity, Tinubu Square, Lagos, while the reception will hold at Eko Hotel & Suites. The bride's dress and other bridal wears will be flown in from Beirut, Lebanon. Continue... Cakes by Tosan has been commissioned to make all the cakes for the exotic wedding. Food and drinks will be supplied by Eko Hotel & Suites. Newton & David and Enthyst will reportedly organize and decorate the wedding venue while Ali Baba is said to have been contracted to host the event. Some of the artists expected to perform at the wedding include Iyanya, Davido, Mavin crew, among others. Over 900 VIP guests have reportedly been invited to the wedding. | Dad kills his 5 young children and dumped them in bin bags at side of road Posted: 10 Sep 2014 06:02 AM PDT   The children, aged between 8 and 2 were reported missing from their home in South Carolina on September 3rd by their mother. Their bodies were found today. Notes referring to violence against the children were also found in his car. Continue...  Jones was divorced from his wife but had joint custody of the children with her. He was even their primary legal custodian. The last time anyone heard from the children and Jones before they were found murdered was on August 28th. The six of them were supposed to travel to Mississippi for a family gathering on Labor Day weekend but never arrived. Nobody heard from Jones until September 6th when he was stopped at a checkpoint. When police opened the doors of the Escalade he was driving, they saw he had taken bleach and poured it all over the back of the Escalade but the noticed blood and maggot and immediately took him into custody. Jones has so far not revealed why he killed his children but the prosecutor involved in the case said Jones mentioned something about the children plotting to kill him. |

| Lagos Govt to prosecute cases of stigmatization against treated Ebola patients Posted: 10 Sep 2014 04:49 AM PDT  Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris, said at a press conference yesterday, that the state Ministry of Justice has been notified to pick up any case of stigmatization, adding that stigmatization can make some persons believed to have contracted the disease not to come forward for treatment. "Stigmatization may further make contacts and suspects to go underground. This may bring about the reversal of the gains we have already made; because such contacts and suspects may not come out and if they don't come out, they jeopardize the life of those they come in contact with, including their families. We want to emphasize that the Ministry of Justice will take up any case of stigmatization. Anybody, either a discharged patient or a contact being followed up, who feels any form of stigmatization, should petition the Ministry of Justice and the Attorney-General and we will take it up from there." he said. |
| Federal Government set to ban 'Ponmo'? Posted: 10 Sep 2014 04:35 AM PDT  This indication emerged Tuesday when the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina called for competent regulations that would check the consumption and sale of the product. If this is achieved, he noted that livestock farmers would stand good chances of making high dollar return if the hides and skins (Ponmo) are tanned into leather.The minister who was represented at the occasion by the Director, Animal Production and Husbandry in the Ministry, Dr. Ademola Raji, said, "I also commend NIAS for its advocacy and public enlightenment programs on Radio and Television that promote value addition in Livestock, as against sale and consumption of primary products alone, particularly with the issue of curtailing the widespread consumption of hides and skins as Kpomo which ought to be tanned into leather for a very high dollar return to the farmer and Tanneries. I expect that competent regulations acceptable by all stakeholders will be developed so as to give credibility that our set standards for food safety are being implemented which will boost value addition." |
