Breaking: Amber Rose files for divorce from Wiz Khalifa

Posted: 24 Sep 2014 11:06 AM PDT

TMZ just broke the news. After one year of marital bliss, Amber Rose just filed for divorce from rapper Wiz Khalifa. Wasn't it recently she shared wedding photos and gushed about him? Find the report from TMZ below...
Amber Rose has filed for divorce from husband-of-1-year Wiz Khalifa ... and she's gunning for full custody of their kid.
In the divorce docs -- obtained by TMZ -- Amber says they split on Monday and cites irreconcilable differences.
Amber is asking for full legal and physical custody of their 1-year-old son Sebastian. She's willing to give Wiz visitation.

And this is interesting. Amber acknowledges there's a prenup, which you would think would work in Wiz' favor, but she says it's valid ... presumably, she's not challenging it. The docs say the prenup provides spousal support.

As for why they split, there's been a buzz over the last few days of infidelity, but there's no mention of it in the papers.

We got video of Amber with some guy Tuesday in Bev Hills. Our photog asks her if Wiz is keeping a close eye on Nick Cannon -- there are rumors they've hooked up, but she's mum.

Sources connected with the couple say the split is bitter.

Nigerian Army confirms Boko Haram leader Shekau is dead

Posted: 24 Sep 2014 10:30 AM PDT

The Defence Headquarters has released a statement claiming to have killed a man posing as the leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau (or his impersonator) in an attack (both land and air) in Konduga Borno state between 12nd to 17th September. Find the statement after the cut...

Nigerian troops have been conducting coordinated air and land operations in furtherance of efforts at containing the terrorists in the North East part of the country. Somehow, it became apparent that the terrorists in continuation of their campaign of terror were determined to take over communities around Maiduguri which is their prime target.
There was therefore the need to ensure that communities such as Konduga were protected. It is noteworthy that the terrorists made not less than four attempts between 12 and 17 September 2014 to violate the security and enter Konduga to perpetrate their atrocities. Air and land forces were subsequently deployed to handle the situation.
The convoy of combat vehicles typical of terrorists' mission that involves their top commanders, were fiercely engaged by the land and air forces. Several of the terrorists including some of their commanders lost their lives in the encounters which lasted an average of about 5 hours each.
The troops captured some of the terrorists and their equipment. In the course of those encounters, one Mohammed Bashir who has been acting or posing on videos as the deceased Abubakar Shekau, the eccentric character known as leader of the group died. Since the name Shekau has become a brand name for the terrorists' leader, the Nigerian military remains resolute to serve justice to anyone who assumes that designation or title as well as all terrorists that seek to violate the freedom and territory of Nigeria.
On restoring normalcy after the encounter, inhabitants of the community who were victims of terrorists activities corroborated information on the identity of Bashir Mohammed alias Abubakar Shekau, alias Abacha Abdullahi Geidam alias Damasack etc. Indeed, the recent devastation on the leadership of the insurgents is attributable to the renewed commitment to the mission of eradicating terrorism in our country.
Meanwhile, a total of 135 terrorists have yesterday evening surrendered along with equipment to troops around Biu Local Government Area. A group of 88 submitted themselves at Mairiga/Bun – Yadi while another group of 45 terrorists were taken in around Mubi – Michika. They are all being interrogated and processed in conformity with the dictates of standard best practices.
The Defence Headquarters applauds the gallantry of the Nigerian troops who have remained undaunted and professional in prosecuting this campaign against terror. The keen interest exhibited by our neighbours and allies is commendable and we appreciate them. All allies in the war against terrorism are hereby assured of the Nigerian military's resolve to maintain momentum in the efforts to decimate and defeat terrorists. The invaluable efforts toward achieving sustainable peace and victory against the terrorists are highly appreciated.
Statement signed by Defence spokesperson, Maj. Gen Chris Olukayode

55 year old Herve Gourdel, has been beheaded by the ISIS-linked Islamist group Jund al-Khilifa in Algeria in revenge for France launching airstrikes on Iraq. The French man was captured in Algeria while hiking in the Djurdjura National Park on Sunday September 21st just one day after he arrived the country for a walking holiday.

The terrorists threatened to kill the Frenchman unless France stops bombing militants in Iraq. They killed him a few hours later and released the video showing his beheading. France started bombing ISIS in Iraq last Friday...

T.B. Joshua’s alleged bribe: The truth - written by journalist Simon Ateba

Posted: 24 Sep 2014 08:57 AM PDT

Simon Ateba is a reporter with PM News. In his piece, Ateba said as long as Nigerian journalists are not paid well, they will continue to accept 'bribe'. Read his thought provoking piece below...
People have been asking me, "Simon , were you at that press conference on 14 September where Prophet T.B. Joshua allegedly gave N50,000 to journalists to write a positive story on the building collapse that killed many people?", my answer is always the same.
I was not at that event, I do not know if he gave a bribe, I do not know if it was N50,000, and cannot comment on it. But I do not feel better or more righteous in any way than those who might have collected anything, if money was given.‎
The truth is this, as long as journalists in Nigeria are not paid for months or are given irregular crummy salaries, as long as they are not insured, as long as publishers pocket all the corrupt money they get in the forms of adverts or special reports from corrupt politicians, and as long as Nigerians refuse to spend their money on newspapers, which push publishers to solicit money from politicians who have pocketed everything, many journalists will continue to accept gifts, bribes or whatever you call it.

I understand that foreign journalists at the event and a Nigerian journalist allegedly rejected the money. I am happy they allegedly did and that's where the profession should be. That's the ideal we all want. But that's not where we are.

Most journalists in Nigeria have no insurance. Many newspapers in Nigeria have not paid their reporters for months, some even a year, including those newspapers that are even getting those corrupt advert money from government officials.

A CNN, Reuters, Associated Press or BBC journalist will surely die if he was not paid for one year, had no insurance, no house to live in, and no friend to support him.

And many former journalists who are now successful and even the society at large, are very wicked. They see a journalist who is striving to stand out, who wants to be objective and unbiased, they watch him as life challenges crush him to death. No car, no house, no savings, nothing to show for 20 years of work. And when such a journalist accepts a gift, the same society says, look at him, he's corrupt. He's biased. He's unethical.

But the same society screaming does not buy newspapers, they prefer to spend all their money on drinks, cigarettes, clothes, bags and cars but demand and expect higher standards from the media. So I am sorry to say it won't happen.

The society is hypocritical and the media industry is sick. But until there's a shift, nothing will change.

You can say these are just excuses. You may even add that the media should be our conscience, and only truth is acceptable. You will be passing a superficial judgement, because you cannot just should look at corruption in the media without understanding why the rot is so deep and the change so hard.
You must understand that it is the product of a failed society. A corrupt government, a corrupt judiciary, a corrupt police force, a corrupt army, a corrupt civil society, a corrupt banking and financial system, ‎a corrupt educational system, a corrupt political system, in summary, it is the product of a failed country that does nothing when journalists are not paid for months or are left to wallow in poverty after serving their nations for 20 years.

I used to know a journalist who passed on after working for his company for many years in Lagos, ‎and his wife was given only one month salary to take care of herself and their kids. I guess, this, certainly, is not the future we all envisaged after graduating with a First Class at the University.
My rambling is getting too long. Let me summarise.

The journalist who leaked the alleged bribery to the public claimed that he did so because journalists were too soft on Prophet T.B. Joshua and were not reporting the truth. ‎

Hear him: "‎I observed that Nigerian media were being too gentle on TB Joshua despite the glaring irregularities surrounding the collapse. I read more reports about the "hovering craft" and how Boko Haram could have sabotaged the building.

"Very little was reported about the structural defects of the building. Not much was written about the fact that the building originally had 2 floors and was being illegally refurbished with 4 additional floors when it collapsed. We didn't come hard on the Synagogue Church goons who attacked first responders. We didn't highlight the fact that many of those that perished could have been saved if NEMA officials weren't barred from the site for almost three days! We didn't make an issue of the fact that our colleagues who had gone to report the collapsed building were molested on Saturday.‎"
Of course, you all know that these are lies. What he's saying is not factual. Or maybe he did not read reporting of the building collapse enough.

On 15 September, the day after the alleged bribe was given to journalists, P.M.NEWS ‎published this editorial: http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2014/09/15/the-synagogue-tragedy/ . You can read it yourself and let me know if it looked like they were being soft on T.B. Joshua or hiding the facts.
The 20-year old newspaper sai‎d in that editorial: "Perhaps most of the dead victims would have been rescued alive if the church staff and people perceived as thugs did not prevent officials of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, from carrying out rescue operations immediately the building crumbled.

Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, had to intervene by visitting the scene of the disaster and ordering the church staff to leave  the site before rescue work could start in earnest."
The newspaper concluded it editorial by saying: "‎We must go beyond speculation to serious investigation to unravel the facts and prevent future tragedies of this magnitude. Those who are found wanting should be made to face the full wrath of the law."

Does that look like a newspaper trying to protect T.B. Joshua or that did not care about the dead?
Of course not.
But that was not all. the same day, the cover story of P.M.NEWS ‎in Lagos read: "Boko Haram Attack: Nigerians Blast T.B. Joshua‎".

The lead or the first paragraph of that story read: "‎Nigerians have blasted Prophet T.B. Joshua of the Synagogue Church of All Nations for claiming that Boko Islamist sect might have brought down a six-storey building in his church that has killed more than 40 people."
That front page story was published on 15 September. Does it look like people who were buying the story of a jet hovering over the building before it came down?

These examples were just from P.M.NEWS. It was the same thing for The Punch, The Nation, Vanguard, The Sun, ThisDay, Tribune, The New Telegraph, TheNews Magazine, and even TVC and Channels TV, as well as other television and radio stations.
So it is not factual to say that Nigerian journalists were being soft on T.B. Joshua or were hiding the facts. It is simply a lie. ‎

If Nigerian journalists collected the money, they did so because of a sick industry, a failed state and the reasons I mentioned above. But the money certainly did not change the facts. And we all knew the facts even before the audio was leaked last week. ‎

One thing I can say is that until investigation is conducted and concluded, no one can claim to know exactly what led to the building collapse.‎ It will just be ranting, and rambling that lead to semantic noise but nothing evidential or concrete.

I can say more, and go on and on, but for now, it's time to mourn the dead.‎ May their souls rest in peace.

52 Boko haram members arrested in Biu, Borno state

Posted: 24 Sep 2014 08:11 AM PDT

52 Boko Haram members have reportedly been arrested in separate operations in Biu Borno state by security operatives. According to military sources, the men were arrested between yesterday Sept. 23rd and today September 24th.
A military source said some of the sect men had boarded a truck in a bid to leave the state but were arrested after the truck driver notified soldiers at a checkpoint that passengers in his vehicle had threatened to kill him if he did not take them out of the state.
"We arrested over 50 members of the Islamic sect following tips we got from the driver as well as locals. I can tell you they are cooperating and giving us useful information" the security source said

A member of the local volunteer group, Aliyu Mamza, said his group was also instrumental to the arrest of the sect members. According to him, 46 BH men hid in the compartment of the truck meant for transporting goats and were exposed after the driver of the truck notified soldiers. Six other members were arrested at the Biu bus station as they were about boarding a bus out of Borno.

Beautiful 28yr old nurse hangs herself after suffering chronic skin disease

Posted: 24 Sep 2014 07:03 AM PDT

A health visitor with a first class honours degree in nursing was found hanged after she became tormented by her severe skin condition.

Hollie McEwen, a dedicated professional, first suffered psoriasis as a 12-month-old but it eased with treatment. However, it later reappeared due to stress and the 28-year-old became so depressed she took her own life at home.

Her father Andrew told an inquest: 'Her condition played a large part in what she decided to do.
'She was a beautiful, vibrant young woman who felt she couldn't deal with the condition. She felt this was the only way out.'

The Doncaster hearing was told she had suffered from bulimia as a teenager. Her family believed the eating disorder stemmed from her ongoing issues with her skin condition.
Her mother Wendy said: 'Her skin condition played a large part in her problems as a teenager and when older I feel this was at the root of all the problems.'

Hollie's body was found just two days after she had sought medical help for her depression.
She had spent a long time writing several letters to loved ones which were found in a bin.
Her father, who saw her the evening before the tragedy said: 'She was a happy, young woman who enjoyed her work and social life but she kept everything very close to herself. We had a good laugh on that last night and there was no indication she was unhappy.'
Mrs McEwen said her daughter, who lived in Scawsby, Doncaster, had treatment for psoriasis over the last few years involving hospital stays and steroids after suffering anxiety attacks.

Hollie had enjoyed a family holiday in Turkey but was 'down' after being given an anti-depression drug by her GP which failed to lighten her mood.
'She was an intelligent, determined and organised young woman,' she said. 'I told her to keep going with the tablets and give it time.'

When told about her daughter's death she said: 'I was in absolute shock. Her death has left a large hole in our family. I still can't understand why this has happened.'
Hollie's brother Andrew told the inquest: 'She was a happy young woman who enjoyed her work and social life. She kept everything very close to herself.'

He said there was no indication that she was unhappy the evening before she died. He added: 'As a teenager she was always conscious of her skin condition and it worried her greatly.'
Hollie's neighbour Elaine Lunn found a note from her on the morning of Friday, May 23 asking her to call the emergency services so Hollie's family would not find her body.
She said: 'I believe she had planned it. There was nothing to suggest prior that she was going to do anything like this. I feel totally distraught.'

She added: 'She was a very attractive young woman. She was energetic, thoughtful and caring and studied to further her career. She was very bright and intelligent.'

Nurse and friend Angelina Deighton, who trained with Hollie at Sheffield Hallam University, said she knew her psoriasis had worried Hollie and she said she was having treatment and counselling.
'She was always the life and soul of our friendship group,' she said. 'She was always bubbly. She had a boyfriend for a few months in 2013 but it fizzled out and she wasn't concerned about it.
'Lately she described being tired, down and just not coping. She had been to her GP for anti-depressants but she didn't think counselling would help her and she tried to help herself.
'I tried time and time again to get her to seek help. She had many friends who thought she would never do anything like this.'

Behavioural psychotherapist Jessica Dunn, who had a session with Hollie just two days before she died, said Hollie had started to feel anxious and overwhelmed at having to plan a friend's hen party.

'She was well presented with immaculate hair and make-up,' said Miss Dunn. She had 'dark thoughts' but had no intention of carrying them out. 'She told me "I wouldn't put my family through that".'
Hollie had been avoiding her friends and not socialising because her mood was so low. After breaking down in tears in the witness stand Miss Dunn said: 'I had no concern for her safety.'

4 months after being released from prison, man gets re-arrested for robbery

An ex-convict who was released from prison four moths ago after spending 7 years in kirikiri has been arrested again by men of the Lagos state Police command after he and his gang snatched a car in the Yaba area of Lagos.

According to Vanguard, Faruk Lawal and his gang snatched a car from its owner while the owner was having sex to a woman inside his car along Morrocco street in the Alade area of Yaba in Lagos.

Parading Faruk and one of his gang members at the state Police headquarters in Ikeja yesterday Sept. 23rd, the state Commissioner of Police, Kayode Aderanti, said the young men where arrested after a distress call was put across to them of a car theft incident at the Yaba axis of Lagos
"Two armed robbers, named Babatunde Makinde and Faruk Lawal, were arrested. A search conducted on the vehicle led to the recovery of one double barrel pistol, two single barrel pistols and 28 live cartridges. The suspects confessed to have snatched the vehicle from its owner at gunpoint in Alade area of Yaba few hours before they were arrested and that the third gun belongs to one Dayo, a member of their gang who narrowly escaped arrest. Investigation is still ongoing with a view to arresting the fleeing gang members."
While being interrogated, Faruk expressed sadness he was heading back to prison.
"I never wanted to go with them. If I had listened to my instinct, I would not have been involved. It means I am returning to prison where I spent seven years. I was released just four months ago with a promise to turn a new leaf" he said

'Daniel asked for divorce many times before we finally separated' - Doris Simeon

Posted: 24 Sep 2014 04:39 AM PDT

Actress Doris Simeon in a recent TV interview spoke once again about her failed marriage to movie producer, Daniel Adenimokan. Speaking on TVC breakfast show, Your Views, this week, Doris said Daniel asked her for a divorce several times before they finally separated.
"This man asked for divorce over seven times, long before we finally separated. At every little problem, he would say 'I want divorce, I want divorce.' There are some people that he listens to when they talk to him, so I tried to call pastors, and they kept calling him, but he wouldn't pick their calls. At some point, I just realized that he had made up his mind finally. It got to a point that I had to look at myself in the mirror, and I said to myself, 'Doris, you are a beautiful woman, why would you want to kill yourself over nothing?' I convinced myself to just try and move on with my life also. It took me a year to get to that point, but in between that time, I was trying to focus my mind on other things such as work."
My advice to other women going through this is; put God first in everything. Put things behind you, make sure you look your best and work harder. Don't kill yourself because of any man because you have kids to take care of.

The rise and rise of 'Runtown'

Posted: 24 Sep 2014 02:43 AM PDT

The name Douglas Jack Agu might not strike a chord, but the moment you mention the name 'RunTown' you instantly relate the name with the remarkable success of one of Nigeria's fastest rising pop sensations who has broken several boundaries in the music industry within a very short period of time, and he doesn't seem to slowing down anytime soon.

Runtown was born In Enugu state on the 19th of August 1989, he grew up partly in Abuja and Lagos where he had most of his primary education. Shortly after the death of his dad, he relocated to Abuja and in 2007, he wrote his W.A.E.C examinations in Enugu state where his paths crossed with that of indigenous rapper Phyno.

Fast forward to 2014, Runtown has several chart topping songs which includes his monster hit collaboration with Davido on the song titled 'Gallardo', 'Succesfull' and his latest effort 'Baby Answer'.

Prior the release of Gallardo, Runtown has kept his hustle going as an underground artiste working with top notch acts, he featured on J Martins second album on the 5th track titled "Tonight", and he went on to drop his very first sing 'Party Like It's 1980' (Kinorbor) in 2010, the song was popular but the artiste didn't get known. Determined to make an impact, Runtown kept on recording new songs and in 2014  he inked a multi-million Naira recording deal with Ericmany Entertainment owned by the C.E.O of Dilly Motors.

Runtown released the smash hit tune 'Gallardo' in January 2014, and just 9 months after, he has recorded a tremendous string of successes. He won the 'Best Collaboration Award' for the song Gallardo at the NEA Awards in New York in August, his twitter account got verified a few months ago, he just returned from a trip to East Africa where he had a very successful media tour in Nairobi, Kenya with top tv & Radio stations like Kiss Tv, Citizens Tv, One FM, Spice Magazine, KTN, Homeboyz Radio and many more. He also delivered a very energetic performance at the 'Lagos Party concert' in Nairobi with a thrilling performance of his songs 'Successful' and 'Gallardo', and by popular demand, Runtown would be back in Nairobi Kenya on the 1st of November 2014 to headline the 'Naija Nite Concert'.

'We won't plead for the 12 soldiers sentenced to death' - Senate

Posted: 24 Sep 2014 01:11 AM PDT

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Defence, Senator Thompson Sekibo has said that members of the Senate will not be intervening on the death verdict handed to 12 soldiers for mutiny by a military court on September 16th.

Senator Sekibo who spoke with journalists after a closed-door meeting between the senate committee on Defence and the Service Chiefs at the National Assembly in Abuja yesterday September 23rd, said the verdict of the military court is meant to instill discipline into the military.
"No we are not, because the Armed Forces are established by an Act of the National Assembly. The Act spelt out categorically the conduct of the soldiers and the way they are to behave wherever they are. If you join the military, that Act is to guide you and your conduct. If you go contrary to any of the prescribed sections of the Act the punishment prescribed for the Act you violated will come on you. So the military did not just wake up one day and say that they are going to kill Mr. A or Mr. B."
They went through the necessary processes and they found them guilty. But I think that those found guilty also have a way out. They can go on appeal and if the appeal finds them not guilty that will be it. But for what the military has done, they have done the best thing; because you must instill discipline in the Armed Forces. If you don't do so, one day all of us here will be sacked and you will not hear of this place," he said.
Meanwhile the Nigerian Labor Congress has condemned the death sentence. Speaking through the Acting President of the Union, Promise Adewusi, the NLC described the verdict as unacceptable and advised that the verdict be converted to a more tolerable and acceptable one
"We expect that the Military Council or the appropriate authority, whose responsibility it is to review sentences of this nature, should commute this sentence to a more tolerable or acceptable one.".
He said the sentence to death verdict handed to the soldiers if carried out could sow the seed of a major security problem in the armed forces.

In June, felony suspect Jeremy Meeks' mugshot caused quite a storm online, with many describing it as the world's hottest mugshot and many women looking for his contact (read here). Well, we now have a female version of Mr Meeks. Her name is Angela Coastes and she's a glamour model who lives in Miami. Angela was arrested for disorderly conduct in Georgia, US, last month on Aug. 26th. She was released almost immediately but her mugshot only just hit the net and its gone viral with thousands of Twitter and FB users commenting on her good looks and offering to pay her bail.
"If you're not committed to setting Angela Coates free, you're either a loser or your girlfriend is looking at all of your tweets." someone wrote on Twitter
The former Jet Magazine 'Beauty of the Week' is taking the whole thing in good faith but insisted she doesn't need help as she was released the same night. See more pics of Angela after the cut..
