Ban on police road-blocks/check-points still in force - IG of police

Posted: 21 Sep 2014 06:53 AM PDT

The police road blocks in Lagos is so annoying. And according to this press release signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, the ban on the road blocks is still in force. Guess the police officers we see on the roads didn't get the memo. Find the press release below..
The Inspector-General of Police, Acting IGP Suleiman Abba, has stated unequivocally that the order banning the setting up of Police road-blocks nationwide is still strictly in force. In a directive issued to all Commands and Formations of the Force, the IGP warned that all semblances of Police road-blocks and permanent check-points reportedly re-emerging in some parts of the country, especially in the South-East, South-South and South-West geo-political zones of Nigeria should immediately be dismantled.

The IGP who described the trend as a serious violation of subsisting order on road-blocks warned that severe sanctions await any Police Commands, Formations and personnel who violate the order.

While charging the Command Commissioners of Police and Heads of Formations to ensure total compliance with this order, the IGP further orders extensive visibility patrol and effective surveillance on our roads.

Former royal insider reveals 'truth' behind time Diana snubbed kiss from Charles

Posted: 21 Sep 2014 05:22 AM PDT

Former royal press officer Dickie Arbiter reveals how an angry Princess Diana exacted revenge upon then husband Prince Charles in front of the world's media. Read the report below from UK Mirror
The 'truth' behind the infamous moment Princess Diana snubbed Prince Charles as he leaned in to kiss her has been revealed by a Palace insider.
Dickie Arbiter, former press officer for the royal couple, has told how a fuming Diana exacted humiliating revenge on Charles at a Valentine's Day polo match in India
The couple were on a tour of India in 1992 but had different schedules that kept them apart for much of the visit.

Rumours were rife the pair's relationship was at breaking point, and Diana was left to visit the Taj Mahal on her own while Charles attended business meetings many miles away.

In his new book 'On Duty With The Queen: My Time As A Buckingham Palace Press Officer', Mr Arbiter revealed that just days after she was snapped on her own at the famous location, Diana was due to give out prizes at a polo match Charles was playing in.

Fuming at having been left on her own, the princess initially refused to do so but was talked round by Mr Arbiter and another press officer.

However, little did the duo know what Diana would do next after Charles forgot to kiss her in front of the world's cameras.

Mr Arbiter said: "Realising his mistake, he hastily returned and, with an uncertain crowd looking on, moved to kiss his wife's cheek. Incensed, the Princess swivelled her head so that the kiss landed near her ear. "The crowd, as well as those of us accompanying the royal couple, could only cringe. The Prince had clearly been intentionally humiliated, and we knew he'd be furious."

Article written by Charly Boy...
The other day I called a family meeting, in attendance was three of my daughters, two from the United states (Adaeze/Margaret) who have finished their master's degree, looking for juicy employment, my eldest daughter Yvonne, who more or less runs my business. My first grandchild Olivia who is on vacation from school in Mauritius, my Mum, my last son Charles who runs his own fashion business and doesn't live with me, my younger brothers daughter Nancy waiting to move in with her husband and my wife Lady Di. A house full of women, hummm.
The main crux of the meeting was reinforcing their sense of responsibility as long as they remain in my house and how we need to enhance our bounding and the love we share by doing things that promotes a united family. In short God blessed me with a good family.

Family is something that we cannot do without, everyone existing originated from a family. The general expectation from family is love, help, togetherness. Family gives us a level of safety, whenever we are around them we feel safer…

Dear LIB readers: I can't stop blaming myself for my neighbour's broken marriage

Posted: 21 Sep 2014 04:20 AM PDT

From a male LIB reader
I live together with my friend in a compound with two other tenants, Landlord doesn't live with us. One of the tenants whose apartment is adjacent ours is our close friend, a young man of 28 years who is married with a daughter of two years and a very young pretty wife of about 21 years.
Two weeks ago, at around 11pm, I was watching an action movie with my friend when we started hearing noises from our neighbour , the one who is our friend. They were arguing in these lines "I will get out of your house and never come back again....I am tired of this marriage...F**k you....F**k you too...You motherf**ker"
Then I told my friend to lets go intervene and help them settle whatever they might be arguing about, but my friend said "No, it's their business, lets increase the volume of the TV so we won't hear their arguments again...let husband and wife settle their differences themselves" I obliged reluctantly, and since it was an action movie we were watching, with the sporadic shooting and sound effects, we couldn't hear them again.

Fast forward to the next morning. The man was dressed and ready to go to work at around 8am, then he entered our apartment and said , "Guys, don't tell me you didn't hear I and my wife argue yesternight" My friend retorted sharply and denied, "Nope, you know the Generator was on and we were watching the TV so loud" Then he broke the bad news that he lost his temper and beat his wife mercilessly because she spent the money he kept with her for the building of their house, so the wife parked all her belongings with their daughter at around 12am, got into a taxi and swore never to return to the house again and he told her "So be it" Then he said, "Perhaps, if you guys had shown up, I wouldn't lose my temper, my wife wouldn't pack her things" He then vowed never to accept her again. I tried to persuade him but he remained adamant.
I called the wife same day and she said she was currently in her parent's house, and she thought we purposely didn't want to intervene, then she said we were wicked. The wife and her family said their daughter would never return to the man, and the husband and his family said they also don't want her again for squandering their son's 400k, for not being savvy and for being promiscuous  (Her promiscuity I know of) . She seems too young to be in marriage hence the youthful exuberance.  They got married because she got pregnant.

I have been feeling guilty ever since. If I had just gotten out to intervene, if I just didn't listen to my friend,  their marriage would still be intact because I am highly respected by the couple;  they would listen to me had I talked to them. The couple have helped us a lot. The husband had come to our rescue on many occasions as regards money, the wife cooked for us like she was our sister. I had an opportunity to restore their marriage and I failed. How do I get over this feeling of guilt? And the funny thing is, my friend doesn't feel anything, he doesn't even miss the woman and their daughter unlike me, he doesn't even like bringing the issue up. He is just too unemotional.

MTN Project Fame’s unbeatable milestone in UK, US, Canada and Africa

Posted: 21 Sep 2014 04:33 AM PDT

One would be right to affirm that consistency, creativity and professionalism have been the hallmark of the ongoing MTN Project Fame 7.0. Little wonder why the TV broadcast and online channels of the show have gathered a huge global followership in such a short span.  About a week ago, the cumulative views on YouTube hit a stunning figure of 4.7 million. A breakdown of the statistics shows that 1.7 million was recorded this season, with a large chunk of the traffic coming from the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada.

Tiwa Savage performing at the Opening Gala
Interestingly, one of the high points of online followership happened three weeks ago, when Michael Bolton, a popular American singer tweeted at the music academy to wish one of the contestants, Clement Akuoko, good luck. That was an uncommon feat.

Within the Africa continent, in faraway Egypt, South Africa and neighbouring countries like Cameroon and Ghana, according to Malike Dorothy, the publisher of Treasure Diary, a magazine published in Central Africa, the reality show has grown to be a popular family entertainment and the winners are held in high regard. Little wonder, Chidinma Ekile, the Season 3 winner of the musical academy, won the KORA award for the Best Artiste (female category), in 2013, in Abidjan.

When the contestants visited the Children Development Centre in Surulere, Lagos
Commendably, the online video view time in minutes has grown to 13 million. This is historical and a testament to how much satisfaction families are deriving from the show in the digital era. With this season producing brilliant performances, week-in week-out, and viewers debating who will emerge the eventual winners between Emeka, Geoffrey, Christian, Ruky, Clement, Debbie, Ugo and Dianella, the total view time is expected to grow exponentially in the days ahead.

That said. The popularity of the show among global audience has made it the biggest in Africa. Its productivity rate in terms of past contestants who made it into mainstream music industry has also made the platform the choice of talented West African youths who aim to make a living through entertainment.

Awilo Logomba performing at the opening night in August
Some of the milestones achievement can be traced to the undying passion exhibited by MTN, the reality show's sponsor. Over the years, MTN has distinguished itself as a brand that seeks to create a better life for its host communities. This, it has made possible through the various platforms it creates to reach out to  the youth whose talents it seeks to nurture either through football and scholarship programmes, dance competitions or music academy like Project Fame.

The years ahead hold so much promise for the viewers and the youth seeking opportunities. The viewers are assured of great entertainment evidence by the passion of Project Fame's sponsor and the creativity of the production team. The youth will have more opportunities to showcase their musical talent to the world and gain the approval of the reality show's over 200 million viewing audience distributed around 7 continents.
The finalist, among whom the winners will emerge
You can watch the contestants' performances, especially their rendition of evergreen African songs, this weekend, and more via (https://www.youtube.com/projectfametv) or by downloading the Reel Africa App or visiting www.reelafrica.net. Reel Africa App is available on MTN App Store, Google Play and Windows App Store. You can also help your favourite contestant to win the competition by texting his or her unique number to 306 or 1745 (in Ghana).

Red Cross involved in secret Boko Haram prisoner swap to release Chibok girls

Posted: 21 Sep 2014 04:12 AM PDT

Looks like the federal govt is in talks with Boko Haram to release Chibok girls despite vowing a few months ago not to negotiate with the terror group. According to UK Telegraph, the International Committee of the Red Cross is currently involved in a secret prisoner swap deal to secure the release of the girls. Find the report below...
Officials from the Geneva-based organisation have sat in on talks between the Nigerian government and a senior Boko Haram leader currently held in one of the country's maximum security prisons. The Red Cross officials have also visited a number of other jails, identifying a list of 16 senior commanders that Boko Haram wants freed in exchange for its hostages.
The ICRC's role in the talks represents the first official confirmation that the Nigerian government is actively engaged in talks with Boko Haram over the release of the girls. Publicly, Nigeria's president, Goodluck Jonathan, has maintained that the government would never agree to any kind of negotiations.

The ICRC, whose global remit includes prisoners' welfare, has agreed to act as an independent party in ensuring that the two sides, neither of which trust each other, honour any prisoner swap agreement. It has also offered to monitor and oversee any co-ordinated exchange of the schoolgirls for the militants.

Fred Eno, a veteran Nigerian civil rights activist who has been involved in the talks, told The Telegraph: "We felt the negotiations would go better with the backing of a major international humanitarian organisation like the ICRC. There have been two or three ICRC people at each meeting - international staff rather than Nigerians - and they accompany the government security agents to the various prisons and detention centres to identify the people that Boko Haram want released."
The negotiations began around two months ago, when representatives of the ICRC, along with government officials and intermediaries from Nigerian civil rights groups, met with a senior Boko Haram leader currently serving a life sentence in Kuje prison, near the Nigerian capital, Abuja. The Boko Haram leader, identified only as "Omar", acted as a spokesman for all the group's detainees.
A source close to the talks claimed that at one point, the discussions came close to reaching a deal, with delegations despatched to the city of Yola, in north-east Nigeria, in preparation for picking up the girls.
However, the deal then broke down when Boko Haram refused to release all the girls at once, as the government had insisted.

"The insurgents wanted to release the girls on a piecemeal basis, but the government turned down that offer," the source said. "There was also some opposition from some factions inside of the government to doing any kind of prisoner swap at all, as they feel the Boko Haram prisoners are hardened criminals who have committed heinous crimes."

Mr Eno said the 16 prisoners that Boko Haram wanted released were not well-known names among the Nigerian public, but were still senior figures in the group. "They were senior enough that some other commanders who had taken their place are worried about what will happen to their own positions if they are released," he said.

He added that one of the reasons for the breakdown in the agreement was that in some cases, the ICRC and prison authorities had been unable to match the names on the Boko Haram list to prisoners held in any jails. He said was possible that this was because the names were simply wrong or inaccurate, but that the group had inferred that the government was trying to hold some prisoners back, and had therefore refused to release all the girls at once.

News of the ICRC's involvement may bring a glimmer of hope for the girls' families, many of whom have begun to fear that they may never see their daughters again. Some have even asked the government to officially declare their children as dead so that they can conduct formal funerals. Western diplomats in Abuja also told The Telegraph recently that they doubted the girls would ever be released because of Western pressure on the Nigerian government not to negotiate with a terrorist group as brutal as Boko Haram.

The ICRC has a track record in trying to assist people held captive by insurgent groups. In Afghanistan, its staff have made discreet visits to private jails run by the Taliban, even as the Taliban engage in fighting with coalition forces.

A spokesman for the ICRC in Geneva would neither confirm nor deny its involvement in the talks, but said it was willing to help "in facilitating the transfer of people back to families if necessary".
He added: "We have a dialogue with all the different parties, and if there is any way we can help as a neutral humanitarian organisation, we will."

Nude photos of Kim K, Gabby Union and more stars leak online

Posted: 21 Sep 2014 07:06 AM PDT

This tweet is so apt..lol. We've all seen Kim's nakedness so nobody really cares. But anyway, hackers last night released more stolen pics of Kim K, Jennifer Lawrence, Gabrielle Union, Vanessa Hudgens, Hayden Panettiere,  Kaley Cuoco, Avril Lavigne, Hope Solo and many more celebs in the biggest celeb scandal in history, that has prompted an FBI investigation.

The hackers hacked these celebs iCloud accounts three weeks ago and shared their nude photos online. Then they released a list of other celebs and promised to share their nude photos soon...yeah well, soon was last night. The hacker/s titled it 'The Fappening: The Second Coming'. The photos are on 4chan Reddit, Facebook and Twitter...in case you want to see them..:-)

Gabrielle Union has confirmed her images are real and says she plans to call in the FBI to investigate. She released a statement to TMZ
"It has come to our attention that our private moments, that were shared and deleted solely between my husband and myself, have been leaked by some vultures.
"I can't help but to be reminded that since the dawn of time, women and children, specifically women of color, have been victimized, and the power over their own bodies taken from them. These atrocities against women and children continue worldwide.
"For anyone out there also being affected by these and other hacking and hate crimes. We send our love, support and prayers. We have done nothing wrong."
All the pics are on anonymous site, 4Chan. That is the original site the hackers released the pics before it was re-posted on other social media platform. The FBI are threatening to arrested those re-posing the images and have been using other hackers to remove the images online.

But 4chan users are having a blast with the nude pics by reopening other threads once the threads with the pics are closed
"Do they really think that they have any chance of stopping us? We will just make a new thread every time one gets 404'ed."
Sharing these stolen pics is actually illegal.

The 12 soldiers sentenced to death deserve to die - Ex-generals

Posted: 21 Sep 2014 02:35 AM PDT

While the rest of us are begging for leniency, some retired senior military officers say the 12 soldiers sentenced to death last week for attacking their GOC at their barracks in Maiduguri, deserve to die.

Speaking with Sunday Punch, the ex-generals said it's necessary for the military to maintain its age-long rules on discipline, hailed the judgement and said it must be carried out. A former Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Infantry, Brig.-Gen. Williams Obene (retd.), said,
"I commend the boldness of the Army authorities to follow the terms and conditions of service – the extant laws that established the armed forces, particularly the Army– and for trying to uphold discipline at the highest level. When politicians and highly influential Nigerians interfere in the daily administration of the military, things become difficult. That situation is very prevalent under democracy."

A former Adjutant-General of the Nigerian Army, Major General David Jemibewon (retd.), said
"The military does not operate on sentiments or on people expressing either sympathy or lack of sympathy. Most of the things (we do) in the military are based on laws. It is difficult for me to align with people calling for clemency or pardon. The court martial has the facts and they have now come to conclusion after allowing evidence."
Retired Colonel Anthony Nyiam also hailed the judgment, saying
"As a soldier, and respecter of the law and tradition, the worst thing a soldier can do is to mutiny. And the penalty, as the law says, should be served. If you interrupt the traditions of the military, you're interfering with the foundations."
Former military administrator of Bauchi and Osun states, Col. Theophilus Bamigboye (retd.), backed the sentence, saying
"The court has followed the laid down procedure and military etiquette. They (the court) must have looked at the entire situations before arriving at the sentence. We have our own laws and so many things regulating our conduct in the military. I will not want anybody to die but we are talking of military procedure, which has to be followed."
If all these people are backing their death sentence then there may not be hope for these soldiers. But I pray it isn't so because that will be so sad. Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army says it's waiting for the approval of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Kenneth Minimah, on the death sentence given to the soldiers.
