Speaker Tambuwal reacts to his reported defection from PDP to APC

There were reports earlier this evening that the Speaker of the House of Reps, Aminu Tambuwal had defected from the PDP to the APC. The speaker has reacted to the report through a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Mallam Imam Imam. Find the statement below

Due to various media inquiry about the purported defection of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, we wish to state the following:
1. That today, Monday, 20/10/2014, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Tony Anenih, led other members of the party on a reconciliation meeting in Sokoto but the Speaker of the House of Representatives and a member of the NEC of the PDP, Rt. Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal CFR, was not invited to the meeting.



2. That Rt. Hon Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal was later invited by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, to attend the meeting of their political family to discuss the political future of Sokoto State.
3. That the Speaker, Rt. Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, duly obliged and attended the meeting.
4. That the meeting had in attendance prominent Sokoto citizens many of who have no known political affiliation. The most notable been the Sardauna of Sokoto and former Minister of Finance, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji.
5. That consultations on the Speaker's political future continues and the outcome will be made public at the appropriate time.

Canadian-based Nigerian act set to release his single, Nigerian Girl

Multi-award winning Canadian based Nigerian R&B, and Hip-Hop artist "Akin" is set to release a smash hit single "Nigerian Girl" on October 24.

Akin whose song "Harmony" topped charts in major Canadian radio stations said "Nigerian Girl" is his first single from his African debut album which he is dedicating to black women in Africa especially his homeland Nigeria.


Along with his elder brother Rasak "Ra" Busari, Akin is the co-owner of U & I Music
The song was produced to celebrate the beauty and true values of the Nigerian woman. The label believes that today's artists sometimes portray the women folk as sex idols and objects thereby distorting the true definition and character of the Nigerian woman.

This, according to the 2009 Toronto Exclusive Magazine Awards winner, is one of the deciding factor to come back home in order to redefine Nigeria to the world and make a positive contribution to the Nigerian music scene.

The song which he co-produced with Ra and Stephen Hunt will hit the Nigerian airwaves on October 24 2014

Nigerian Law School speak on the mass failure of students

The authority of the Nigerian Law School have spoken out about the recent mass failure of students of the school. The students embarked on a protest last week claiming that over 3,000 of them failed the 2013/2014 exams. The highest failure the Nigerian Law School has witnessed. (Read here)

But reacting, the Secretary to the Council of the Legal Education and Director of Administration of Nigeria Law School, Mrs. E.O Max-Uba, who spoke with PM News, said the students lied, that only 1,000 failed and it was mostly those who were retaking the exams after failing multiple times. She claimed that 57.01% of those who wrote the exam passed.


A document made available to PM NEWS indicated that a total of 5841 regular candidates registered for the examination in the 2013/2014 academic year across the six campuses of the Law School. A further breakdown of the performance revealed that four students made 1st Class Honours while 96 students passed in the Second Class (Upper Division).

620 of them passed in the Second Class (Lower Division) while 2610 or 44.68 per cent of the students recorded ordinary pass. Also, 501 students recorded conditional pass because they have reference in one subject while 1932 students failed the examination.

However, the failure rate was high among the re-sit candidates with about 1168 out of 1335 students who registered failing the examinations while 88 students recorded ordinary pass. Also, 26 of the re-sit students recorded conditional pass.

Mrs. Max Uba told PM NEWS that the failure rate was high among the re-sit students because some of them are either working or based outside the country.

Mrs Max-Uba said the ongoing protest is being led by some of the re-sit students that have sat for the examinations four times without success because they refused to participate in revision classes organised for them prior to the examinations. She dismissed claims that the Director General of the Law School, Prof was behind the failure recorded.

On whether the results will be reviewed, she said any candidate may apply for review in accordance with extant rules of the Council for Legal Education. She also stated that a resit would be conducted for those who failed the exams next year.

My goodness! What kind of human beings exist in this world?This is the shocking moment a Chinese stepmother whipped, beat, kicked and stamped on a girl less than 2 years old just because she wet herself...and the brutal beating, which lasted 5 minutes, was caught on tape.

The stepmother whipped the young girl 87 times with a branch, kicked her 14 times and gave her eight slaps to the face. The more the young girl cried, the more the woman screamed and beat her. At one time, the woman kicked the toddler in the leg until she fell. Then grabbed her by the ear, threw her to the floor, slapped her again and used a branch to beat her. 

Someone filmed the assault from a widow above the compound and posted it online. Hours after it was posted online, thousands called for the woman's arrest, but the police refused to arrest her, saying there was nothing they could do. Unbelievable. See the photos after the cut...

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, today, October 20, 2014 arraigned one Abubakar Abdullahi before Justice Dije Aboki of Kano State High Court on one count charge of criminal breach of trust.
The accused, who is the manager of Maisabulu Bureau de Change, Kano, had sometime in April, 2013 upon the instruction of his employer, Alhaji Kabiru Maisabulu, the managing director of Maisabulu Bureau de Change purchased the sum of 50,000 United States dollars from the Central Bank of Nigeria on behalf of one Bello Sani Yakassai of Misau Bureau de Change but, converted the said sum for his personal use.

The count reads: " That you Abubakar Abdullahi being the manager of Maisabulu Bureau de Change sometime in April 2013 in Kano within the judicial division of the High Court of Justice of Kano being entrusted with certain property to wit: the sum of $50,000.00 equivalent to the sum of N7,780,000.00 given to you by Ahaji Kabiru Maisabulu for onward transmission to Bello Sani Yakassai committed criminal breach of trust in respect thereof and that you thereby committed an offence punishable under section 314 of the Penal Code"

The accused pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.
Based on his plea, Justice Aboki ordered that the accused be remanded in EFCC custody pending the hearing of the bail application and adjourned the matter to November 4, 2014.

Military kills 25 Boko haram members in Damboa

No fewer than 25 members of Boko Haram were killed yesterday October 19th by troops of the 7th division of the Nigerian army after the sect members launched a fresh attack at Damboa LGA in Borno state. Damboa is the same town the sect captured in June but was recovered by the Military in August.

Residents of the area said terrorists arrived around 5pm yesterday in seven Hilux buses and many motorcycles, and immediately started shooting at villagers. Fortunately, the military stationed in the area returned fire an killed many of the sect members...

A resident of the town told Vanguard;
"The terrorist numbering over 100 in 7 Hilux pickup vans and motocycles fully armed with Rocket Propelled Launchers, Improvised Explosive Devices(IED), AK47 rifles, stormed the town on Sunday night. They realized that the town had started picking up live following the returning of many fleeing residents after military took over from the terrorist who captured the town in June this year but we are happy that they are confronted"

Ever read a suicide note? Read War Machine's note, says blame the victim

US professional Mixed Martial artist and porn star War Machine, who is in jail awaiting trial for beating his ex-girlfriend, porn star Christy Mack almost to death (read here), wrote a suicide note before trying to hang himself in his Las Vegas cell last week.

Fortunately for him, his suicide was foiled by a corrections officer who was walking by his cell. According to TMZ, the officer saw him sitting on the ground with his feet up on the bunk bed, a piece of linen around his neck which was tied to the leg of the bed and his face was purple. The officer cut the linen, removed it and saved his life. War Machine is currently in a medical isolation cell on suicide watch.

Corrections officers saw a suicide note in War Machine's cell and for some reason, TMZ got a copy of it. In it, he talks about the night he attacked his girlfriend after finding out she'd been unfaithful, and a whole lot of creepy stuff. See the suicide note after the cut...



War Machine is still facing 32 charges - including attempted murder and rape, while he waits behind bars.

Living on one kidney, Nightclub boss Akeem Shodeinde, says he can't stop drinking or smoking

Akeem Shodeinde, the owner of popular Lagos nightclub, Movida, says he plans to shut down his popular club house and leave the club scene for a little while so he can concentrate on his health.

Akeem has been battling kidney problems for a while now. In an interview with City People this week, Akeem, who survives on one kidney, said he had given his life to Christ but can't seem to be able to give up smoking and drinking...
"Smoking is an addiction. I can't lie to God because if I lie, I am deceiving myself not anybody but I have been praying to God to stop which I believe I will soon stop. And the habit of drinking and smoking is the more reason I need to shut down the club because its really affecting my only one working kidney which is not good for my health at all" he said

Akeem said his time off the club scene will be used to attend bible school and get to know more about God. He also said he wants to be healthy for his only daughter
"I need to take a medical check-up and balance my health because I only have one daughter and I want her to see me on her wedding day" he said.
He said he would also use his time off the club scene to search for a wife
"I pray to God that the wedding luck should come before next year ending and anyone I find I will take my time and pray to God to give me the right person as a wife and if God says it will be my babymama also so shall it be in Jesus name" he said

Singer Faycol dies on child naming ceremony, see pics from her May 2014 wedding

Abeokuta-based hip-hop star, Feyisayo Mojisola Oyetade popularly known as Faycol died on Tuesday Oct. 14th in Sagamu while preparing for her 8-day old baby boy's naming ceremony. Feyi collapsed suddenly and died the same day her child's naming ceremony was to hold.

She was immediately rushed to the Sacred Heart Hospital in Lantoro, Abeokuta where she was pronounced "brought-in-dead". Feyi was then taken to a church for prayers and was reported to have opened her eyes but was in a coma for a while before she finally gave up the ghost. Feyi, who was the only child of her parents, has since been buried at the Sagamu Local government Cemetery. May her soul rest in peace. Amen.
