| Gunmen open fire inside parliament building in Ottawa, Canada Posted: 22 Oct 2014 10:49 AM PDT    Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper had to be evacuated from the government building, which is currently on lock down. There were "numerous gunmen" Wednesday morning at the Canada War Memorial shooting, said Marc Soucy of the Ottawa Police Service. Authorities are working to figure out if there were two or three gunmen, he said. Only one person was shot, Soucy said. There were "several shooting incidents in downtown Ottawa" on Wednesday morning, police said on Twitter. "Incidents occurred at National War Memorial, near the Rideau Centre and Parliament Hill." All Ottawa police buildings remain on lockdown and are closed to the public, police also said on Twitter. There were two soldiers standing guard at the war memorial in Ottawa near Parliament, and a gunman shot one of them, a witness told CNN on Wednesday. Peter Henderson, a journalist, said other soldiers doing drills nearby ran to help the fallen soldier. Henderson said he knew the person shot was a soldier because of the ceremonial uniform the soldier was wearing. |

| President Jonathan reshuffles cabinet Posted: 22 Oct 2014 08:07 AM PDT  The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Olusegun Aganga, will combine his duties with those of the Minister of State for same Ministry while the Minister of the Niger Delta Affairs, Dr Steven Oru, will double as the Minister of State of the same ministry. Dr. Khaliru Alhassan, who is the Minister of State for Health is to now act as the Minister of Health. President Jonathan also directed the Minister of State I for Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Viola Onwuliri to assume the position of the substantive Minister of State for Education. She will be the only one working in substantive capacity. All others will be working in active capacity. |

| Military arraigns five Lance Corporals over mutiny Posted: 22 Oct 2014 04:32 AM PDT  Daily Trust reports that the soldiers are alleged to have committed the offenses in October 2013 after shooting into the air when they received the news of the death of some of their colleagues who were killed by Boko Haram in the North Eastern part of Nigeria. When the two count charge was read to the soldiers, they all pleaded not guilty. The soldiers are part of 59 soldiers of the 7th Division of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri, Borno state, who are standing trial for various offenses ranging from insubordination, mutiny and others. |
