Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen to donate $100m to tackle Ebola

Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, 61, who is worth about $17billion, announced today October 23rd that he will donate $100 million to the fight against Ebola, which has killed thousands of people all around the world. This donation makes him the largest individual donor in the Ebola crisis so far.
"Everybody feels called sometimes to really pursue a certain thing that resonates with them, and this has resonated with me. We're up against an extremely tough opponent here. The exponential nature of the growth of this disease is really a challenge - we've already seen in the U.S. where one case quickly became two." Allen told NY Times

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has secured an order of the Federal High Court, Kano for forfeiture of the properties of one Yagana Ibrahim Bukar a.k.a Aisha Shettima Noor.
By the order, dated October 3, 2014, the properties of the accused person which are believed to be proceeds of crime are to be forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The assets include various sums of money stashed in three different bank accounts, a Honda Accord car with registration No. BD 496 NSR, a Toyota Matrix Car with registration No. FGE 122 AE and a Shop with goods situated at Badawa Layout, Kano.
The forfeiture order followed the refusal of the accused who is being prosecuted on two separate criminal charges bordering on money laundering, stealing and obtaining by false pretence, to present herself for trial after she was granted bail upon arraignment.
Yagana is alleged to have forged various personal and official documents which she used in withdrawing huge sums of money from an Azman Oil and Gas Limited account domiciled with one of the new generation banks in Kano, while being the Account Officer of the company in 2013.

Tiwa Savage Makes Me Pulse and Ginger - Don Jazzy

In the ongoing MTN iPulse 'Xpress Your Pulse' campaign that has started creating a massive buzz on the social media with rousing personal revelations, Mavin Record's boss, 'The Don Dorobucci', Don Jazzy, has inspired many buffs when he posted some messages on his Instagram page expressing his passion for greatness and how he loves to see the likes of Tiwa Savage, Dr. Sid, D. Prince, Ricardo among other crew members continue to attain greater height.


Remarkably, the 'Mavin King' also acknowledged how God has been standing by him from the day his record label was launched. In his words: "my team is growing really fast. God has really been kind to me. Seeing my team do great things gets me going. There is no greater ginger. This is what makes me pulse".

Well, in line with the campaign's metrics, he nominated the record label's first lady, Tiwa Savage, and two of his crew members besides Davido, to express what makes them pulse. Immediately, as if waiting for that motivation, Tiwa Savage tweeted. Guess what makes her pulse? A bag!!!

Yes, Tee Billz' sweetheart loves bags so much! She is so passionate about gifts and will appreciate if she is given gifts irrespective of any ceremonial season or birthday. "It's not my birthday but gifts are always welcomed. This bag makes me pulse."

It is getting interesting, isn't? It seems we are getting some revelations on this pulsing game. Nominating 'Miss Kedike', Chidinma Ekile, the petite artiste replied: "Inspiring young people across the African Continent and ensuring they pursue their dreams to the fullest capacity is what makes me pulse...Forever Black and Proud".
Sound-Sultan in his hilarious nature had posted that 'Nature' makes him pulse. Little wonder he sang 'Natural Something'. Praiz has not been left out of the excitement too.

Meanwhile popular On-Air Personality, Nedu, and another Mavin's star artiste, D'Prince have been actively engaged in the pulse expression game too.
Nedu posted that, "Being an On Air Personality, a comedian and an actor, being at my best at all times is paramount for me. Irrespective of feelings, issues and challenges, I have to do my best to keep those that are my Inspiration happy".

Patience Jonathan resigns as Bayelsa 'Super' Permanent Sec.

Dame Patience Jonathan has resigned her appointment as 'Super' Permanent Secretary in the Bayelsa state Civil service, a position conferred on her in July 2012 by the Governor of the state, Dickson Seriake. Seriake said he gave the appointment to Mama Peace based on her good service to the state and nation.

A source in the state Ministry of Education who pleaded anonymity with The Nation confirmed the First Lady's voluntary resignation and said her resignation may likely not be unconnected to her deepening rift with the state governor. 
"The whole thing is political. It appears Madam Peace is not happy with the governor. With her resignation, the battle line has been drawn. I feel the President's wife resigned to enable her to have the moral right to slug it out with Dickson ahead of the governorship poll in the state. Let no one deceive you, the whole thing is politics. After all, she is 57 and the retirement age is 60." he said
The source also said that all her terminal benefits are been processed at the moment.

Young Money war! Drake handles Tyga after he calls him fake

In a new interview with Vibe Magazine, rapper Tyga slammed his label Young Money and his other label mate, Drake. He doesn't like Drake and he made his feelings known. Tyga said;
"I'm tryna' go independent. I don't really get along with Drake. I don't really get along with Nicki. I don't like Drake as a person. He's just fake to me. I like his music; you know what I'm saying? I think his music is good, but we're all different people. We were forced together and it was kinda like we were forcing relationships together. It is what it is."

The soldier who was shot dead yesterday October 22nd at the National War Memorial in Ottawa, Canada (read here) has been identified as 24 year old Nathan Cirillo (pictured above). 

The father of one was shot dead as he stood guard at the War Memorial by 32yr old Muslim convert Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, who later opened fire at the Canadian Parliament building in a terrifying attack that left the capital on lock-down

 Relief came for a blind teacher, Mary Ihekanacho on Wednesday October 22, 2014 as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, presented her with a draft of N550, 000 which the anti- graft agency recovered from a gang of fraudsters that swindled her of N 830,000 in a job scam. 
The syndicate conned the woman by promising to facilitate her son's employment with one of the oil majors. 

Mr. David Iloyanomo who made the presentation on behalf of the Executive Chairman of EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde, said that "the EFCC stands for justice for all and called on the general public to ensure that they assist the Commission in carrying out its duties by coming forward to give evidence in court when it is required". He also praised the passion with which officers of the Commission handled the matter which made it possible to get justice for Mrs. Ihekanacho. 

An overwhelmed Mrs. Ihekanacho commended the EFCC for coming to her rescue. "I had lost hope. I prayed and asked God to take control and was surprised when Richard called me and told me that the young man has been arrested". She called on Nigerians to support the EFCC in its effort to rid the nation of fraudulent activities. "If someone can scam a blind woman, what else won't that person do?" she asked.

It would be recalled that Ihekanacho, sometime in July 2012, fell into the hands of some fraudsters led by Gift Onyegam who defrauded her of the sum of eight hundred and thirty thousand naira (N830, 000.00).

Following her petition, Onyegam was arrested and arraigned on a 4-count charge of obtaining money by false pretence before Justice M. L. Shuaibu of the Federal High Court, Enugu.

On February 24, 2014, Justice Shuiabu convicted and sentenced Onyegam to ten years imprisonment without option of fine. The court also ordered the convict to pay the victim, the sum of N711, 000 (seven hundred and eleven thousand naira) in restitution.

Fayose's aide blasts Ekiti Speaker over closure of filling station, says "He has no right to own private business"

Special Assistant to the Ekiti State Governor on Information and Social Media, Mr Lere Olayinka has described claims by Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon Adewale Omirin that his filling station, T5 Petrol Station was sealed up for political reasons as the height of mischief and misrepresentation of facts. 

He said as a public office holder, "the Speaker does not have legal rights to own private business, and one wonders how someone prohibited by law to own private business while in office can be said to be the owner of a filling station that is under construction."



Olayinka, in a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday, said; "as against the falsehood being spread by the Speaker and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Speaker's Petrol Station, alongside three others were sealed up for contravening environmental laws."

The governor's aide listed the four filling stations affected by the government action to include; INIS Integrated Services located along Iworoko Road, Ado-Ekiti; belonging Hon Churchill Adedipe, NIPCO Petrol Station (Morolu Global Services), Isato-Oke in Ado-Ekiti (belonging to Mr Oloko), T5 Petrol Station, Ajilosun in Ado-Ekiti (owned by Dr Adewale Omirin) and PHENROSE Limited, Ajilosun in Ado-Ekiti (owned by Mr Gilbert Igweka).

Olayinka, who advised the Speaker to thread softly so as to prevent himself from being pushed into perdition, added that; "Code 2 (b) of the Code of Conduct Act prohibits public office holders like the Speaker from participating in management or running of any private business, profession or trade.

"Therefore, those making noise in the media that Dr Omirin owns a filling station are only trying to throw him inside the web of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, and the noisemakers won't be available to help him out of the mess they would have put him."

Speaking further; Olayinka said; for clarity sake; "Four filling stations were sealed-up and one of them belong to an Ibo man. Are they also saying that the Ibo man is a politician and being coerced by the governor?

"Are they also saying that Mr Oloko, the owner of NIPCO Petrol Station (Morolu Global Services) is a member of the APC and a serving member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly?"

He urged leaders of the APC, especially the immediate past governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi and his godfather, Senator Bola Tinubu to accept their fate and let peace reign in Ekiti State.

Mexican drug cartel tracks down journalist, kills her - then uses her own Twitter account to boast about it

A citizen journalist named Dr María del Rosario Fuentes Rubio from Reynosa, Mexico, who spoke out against organised crime in her city was tracked down and brutally killed by Mexican drug cartel who then hacked into her twitter account and used it to announce her death and then posted a photo of her bloody, lifeless body.

The cruel pic was accompanied by a series of tweets, which started by saying: 'Friends and family, my real name is María del Rosario Fuentes Rubio. I am a physician. Today my life has reached its end. Do not make the same mistake I did.' Continue...

She was known for tweeting under the name Felina and @Miut3 handle with the hashtag #reynosafollow to warn others about crime in her city, which has a reputation for corruption.
The Tamaulipas state prosecutor's office says it is investigating whether Dr Fuentes Rubio has been killed after being reported kidnapped by a gunman on Thursday.
Dr Fuentes Rubio was an administrator for Valor por Tamaulipas (which means Courage for Tamaulipas), the most popular citizen news hub in the state.
Her Twitter account was once used to share information about possible shootouts within the heavy gang and drug cartel community, but has since been suspended. 
The Valor por Tamaulipas Facebook group paid tribute to Dr Fuentes Rubio, calling her 'a doctor who was dedicated to informing the community about risks—with a heart as large as her courage.'
Members of the group posted: 'Today, Miut3 stopped reporting. But the criminals do not know that Miut3 this in our soul and she never would surrender to organised crime.'
The group received a threatening tweet a week before her death which said: 'We're coming very close to many of you watch out felina.'
Reynosa lies within the state of Tamaulipas which borders Texas from east Laredo to the Gulf of Mexico. 
Two rival drug cartels in Tamaulipas have final say over what gets printed or broadcast in the local media, according to the Daily Beast.
This means the people of the state increasingly have turned to social media to share information about organized crime and its infiltration of the government.
