Chinese Embassy in Nigeria denies students visa on grounds of Ebola

Posted: 08 Oct 2014 06:28 AM PDT

The Chinese Embassy in Nigeria has denied visas to some students of Ekiti State University on the grounds of Ebola despite the World Health Organization declaring Nigeria an Ebola free country.

The students were invited to participate in ENACTUS 2014 (Entrepreneurial Action Us), an international competition of young entrepreneurs involving 36 countries slated for 22 – 24th of October 2014 in China in which Nigeria, Senegal, Ghana and Egypt are to represent Africa. But the Chinese Embassy here refused to grant the student visas to go to China.

The Ekiti State University students, who were picked to represent Nigeria having won the ENACTUS Promoted Innovation Competition earlier in the year, have written an open letter about the situation. Find it after the cut...

REPRESENTATION OF NIGERIA AT THE ENACTUS WORLD COMPETITION IN CHINA: DISCRIMINATORY DENIAL OF VISA BECAUSE OF EBOLA VIRUS DISEASE
We write to introduce ENACTUS (Entrepreneurial Action Us), an international non-profit organization that works with leaders in business and educational Institutions to mobilize university and polytechnic students to make economic difference in their communities while developing the skills to become socially responsible business leaders.

We are pleased to inform you that Students of Ekiti State University are slated to represent Nigeria this October in China having won the ENACTUS Promoted Innovation Competition earlier in the year. It should be noted that our institution along with over 40 others in Nigeria have worked tirelessly to contribute positively to the development of our dear nation Nigeria through the ENACTUS (Entrepreneurial Action Us) Platform by embarking on micro economic impacting projects which has improved the quality of life and standard of living of people in our various communities by stimulating economic demand for locally produced products.

Annually, ENACTUS participating institutions come together to share their success stories and the institution with the best innovation that meets all judging criteria represents Nigeria at the International competition which is hosted at different countries. At these international competitions, Nigeria has been duly represented over the years as the leading African country and most consistent top five institution in the Final round of the competition. As a matter of fact, Nigeria, represented by Kaduna Polytechnic won the Third position amongst 32 countries at the international competition which was held in Mexico October, 2013.

ENACTUS Ekiti State University is to represent our dear nation Nigeria this ENACTUS year on October 22nd-24th, 2014 at Beijing, China. However, we have been denied VISA by the Chinese Embassy to participate at the competition due to the incidence of the Ebola Virus in Nigeria this year.
Your Excellency, it is our considered opinion that this an act of international discrimination which needs Your Excellency'surgent attention and intervention. The concerted effort of both the Nigerian Government and her citizens in overcoming the scourge of the dreaded Ebola virus should be praised by the international community rather than it being an excuse for any country that has a strong bilateral relationship and economic ties tothe Federal Government of Nigeria to prevent or deny citizens of this great nation theopportunity to promote our innovation and competitiveness in the global stage. We believe that this denial is not only experienced by ENACTUS Ekiti State University but also so many Nigerian citizens travelling to China at this time, we make to the recent International youth Olympics where the Nigerian contingent were isolated thus causing the Hon. Minister for Sports into recalling the contingent back home. We therefore believe that if this trend is not nipped in the bud, Nigeria may soon become pariah state amongst the comity of nations starting the Chinese.

We hereby seek Your Excellency's to lend a strong voice and action of Support to tell the world in very loud and clear voice that Nigeria is Ebola Free through the ENACTUS EKSU Move tagged "Nigeria is Ebola Free" to give every Nigerian access to his / her right and freedom of association without intimidation and stigmatization at the International level.

In view of the above, we have initiated a social media campaign #NGIsEbolaFree and we plan to spread this message through the social media space to gain international attention.

Please accept the appreciation of our highest regards as we look forward to a quick resolution of the issues not only because of our situation but to save Nigeria's image.

Yours Sincerely.

South African organization demand $1million refund from Nicki Minaj

Posted: 08 Oct 2014 06:00 AM PDT

A South Africa organization, The ANC Youth League - wants rapper Nicki Minaj to pay back the R10million (about $1million) they paid her as part payment for a show that was canceled.

According to South African media, Nicki was paid the money a few weeks back for a music festival - TribeOne Dinokeng, which she was supposed to headline in the city of Tshwane this October but the festival was canceled recently. Now they want their money back. ANCYL said they have written to the rapper's management to return the money. Unfortunately, it's a non-refundable performance fee. Meaning if you pay and you cancel your show, it's on you. You ain't getting your money back. But ANCYL is now saying if Nicki Minaj doesn't want to return the money, she should give it to charity.
"She knows that she hasn't worked for the money and there are many charities that she can donate the money to. We don't want taxpayers' money to be used on boob jobs." Lesego Makhubela of the ANC Youth League said
LMAO at using money on boob jobs. Nicki already told them talk to the hands....

Court sacks Adamawa state acting governor, orders reinstatement of ex dep. governor

Posted: 08 Oct 2014 04:17 AM PDT

An Abuja Federal High court has sacked the acting Governor of Adamawa state, Ahmadu Fintiri from office and ordered the immediate reinstatement of the former deputy governor of the state, Mr Bala Ngilari, (pictured above), as governor.

Ngilari had on July 14th tendered a letter of resignation to the state House of Assembly during the impeachment process of his ex boss, Murtala Mohammed who was impeached on July 15th

Delivering his judgement today, the presiding judge said the letter of resignation sent by Mr. Ngilari on July 14, 2014 to the House Speaker was invalid, null and void as it breached the provisions of sections 306(1), (2) and (5) of the 1999 Constitution because it was addressed to the Speaker and acted upon by the House of Assembly. He went further to state that the letter was also written at a time when the impeached state Governor, Murtala Nyako was still in office and so the letter should have been written to him and not to the speaker.

I may sing again if the right song comes - Genevieve Nnaji says

Posted: 08 Oct 2014 03:11 AM PDT

I liked Genevieve as a singer o, don't know what y'all are talking about. That her 'No More Crying o', was a banger to me...hehe. Anyway, looks like she hasn't put her singing ambitions to rest. She said in a new interview that if she finds the right song, she will sing again.

Speaking with Channels TV at the relaunch of her clothing line in Lagos on Sunday, Genevieve said;
"I think everything comes at its own time. Fashion is here at its own time. I don't believe I must do everything but if the right song comes and the right situation arises for me to lend my voice, I would definitely. So no, singing is not ruled out(don't worry)" she said
The actress also says that revamping her clothing line will not in anyway affect her acting career
"Nothing affects my acting. Acting is something I do with my soul so it embodies a lot of things. For me, I don't know about anyone else, acting is spiritual, so if I do not embody a character or a story or a script, it's going to be extremely difficult for me to be convincing and I don't like that because I am somewhat of a perfectionist" she said

Posted: 08 Oct 2014 02:13 AM PDT

The Delta state government on Sunday Oct. 5th allegedly burnt over 200 motorcycles it confiscated from those who flouted the state's newly introduced ban on motorcycle riding in some parts of the state. Two weeks ago, the State government banned Okada in some parts of the state, including Ika South, Ika North and Sapele.

The ban was however flouted by some motorcycle riders who got their machines seized by officials of the state. The seized motorcycles have now allegedly been burnt at the Mosogar end of the Gammon Bridge in Sapele.

According to Sahara Reporters who spoke with the state's Commissioner for Transport, Ben Igbakpa, he denied knowledge of the State burning the motorcycles.
"I am not aware of the burning of any Okada, the fact remains that any confiscated Okada is not going back to the owner. How such Okadas are being disposed is not the issue, what matters is that, all Okadas in these areas must be off the road" he said

Dear LIB readers: These cybersquatters have taken all my names o lol

Posted: 08 Oct 2014 03:32 AM PDT

Like, these Cyber-squatters are not even playing. All my names have been taken.lol. Think it's finally time for me to move to my own domain name (I was scared before because of hackers) but there's no Linda Ikeji available online. Unknown people have registered everything there is to register. Some as far back as 2007 when I didn't even know what blogging was all about though I was blogging at the time. I got some people to help me look for a lindaikeji domain name yesterday...and everything has been taken. I'm kind of flattered sha, didn't know I was that much of a big deal...lol.

Anyway, I will find one weird LindaIkeji name and let y'all know soon where I am moving to. I don't want to give any of these guys the pleasure of buying those names from them.

Secondly, I also think it's time to expand. For almost 8 years it's been mostly me. I think it's time to get more hands to work at LIB. Doing it mostly alone has been fun but it can be quite exhausting. You don't go out much and I practically don't have a social life. Plus now I can go out more and maybe find me a husband before menopause catch me for house where I sit down from morning till night dey blog...lol. I need sex again in my life I swear...choi...lol.

I'm kinda glad this happened...it's pushed me to want to expand. Will let y'all know. Kisses

Dear LIB readers: Should I marry him?

Posted: 07 Oct 2014 02:43 PM PDT

From a  female LIB reader
"I have been dating my boyfriend who comes from a political family for close to 4 years now. One thing that attracted me to him was the fact that he was nonchalant about politics. He always maintained he wanted no part of it. But late last year, after his older brother (who is the first son) was ordained a priest, my boyfriend suddenly started taking keen interest in politics. Last week, he finally told me he plans to be a political figure and that he'll join APC when he clocks forty (I'm sure his family pushed him into it after the family meeting they had). He also said he plans to marry me next year after my NYSC service. I love him wholeheartedly and I know he loves me but I know how murky and dangerous Nigerian politics can be. I don't want to endanger the lives of my family just because of the family I married into. I'm so confused right now. What if I marry him and end up hating him in the future because of the danger that might befall us? What if I turn him down and regret it for the rest of my life? Please Libers I need your help.
