Switzerland to return $380million Abacha loot to Nigeria

Posted: 17 Mar 2015 12:18 PM PDT

The Swiss government has concluded plans to return $380 million to Nigeria, which is part of money stashed in Swiss banks by former dictator, Gen. Sani Abacha while he was in power.

Geneva prosecutors said today Tuesday March 17th that they ordered the money seized in Luxembourg starting in 2006 & was officially confiscated last year following an agreement between Nigeria and the Abacha family under which FG dropped its case against Abacha's son, Abba Abacha.

Switzerland has previously returned to Nigeria more than $700 million that Abacha stashed in Swiss accounts. If the Swiss government makes this new cash return, it would bring the total amount of Abacha's loot returned so far to $1.080 billion.

Nigerian Young Professionals Forum holds Annual Retreat at the Flourish Wellness Resort in The Gambia

Posted: 17 Mar 2015 09:54 AM PDT

Banjul, Gambia - Young Professionals strategize on how to sustain the collective aspirations of the Forum.  Over (40) Trustees and Executive Members of the Nigerian Young Professionals Forum (NYPF) participated in its Annual Retreat in The Gambia from 11th - 14th March 2015.

NYPF, led by the Chairman, Moses Siloko Siasia and it's Executive Members from the Diaspora (including the Coordinators/Secretaries from NYPF USA,  NYPF UK)  and all the Regional Chairmen within Nigeria (NYPF South South, NYPF South West, NYPF North and NYPF South East) re- affirmed the Forum's commitment to the delivery of sustainable development initiatives in Nigeria particularly through the enhancement of value re-orientation, education and policy formulation at all levels as it concerns young Nigerians.
NYPF core objectives are to engender purposeful leadership, create sustainable livelihood for young people and encourage the participation of young people in governance and economic process.
In achieving these stated objectives, NYPF International established a framework to carry out its existing programs which include:

Propagate better quality of Education
Capacity building for young Nigerian professionals and
Create sustainable livelihood for young people.

The Forum was received by delegates of the Nigerian High Commission in Gambia led by the Consular Officer Mrs Mercy Ekanem and discussed in detail with the delegates on engaging Young Nigerians in The Gambia.

"This Retreat reaffirmed my commitment to the good work of NYPF", said Okenfe Aigbe Lebarty, NYPF USA Coordinator, "NYPF is a voice for the voiceless Nigerian young professionals and with our programs we will empower the average Nigerian to reach his/her highest potentials". As for me, we will work smartly to ensure that young professionals in the United States contribute their quota towards Nation building.

(Aristo girls, get in here..lol) Letter to single ladies from a wife - by Joy Oforka

Posted: 17 Mar 2015 09:47 AM PDT

Lol. Interesting letter to single women from a concerned wife. Read below and tell us what you think
Dear Single Ladies,
Na wa. Yes, na wa. Not because I am ignorant of appropriate ways to begin a letter but because no other beginning could be more expressively appropriate for you. "Na wa"  because it is a common expression of bewilderment like when we hear Sister Lucy is called Candy outside church. "Na wa" because it is fitting for disgust like when we see Sisi Kemi is becoming a grandmother - scratch that, mother - as she is pregnant for Baba Ade. "Na wa" because we are fatigued by speechlessness seeing that when we say the Lord's prayer for our husbands, we should replace "temptations" with "evil single ladies". Hence, on these counts and more, I greet you "na wa".
I have tried to make sense of your thing with our husbands. Though it is common knowledge that people cheat (it obviously transcends gender), you don't find it easily accepted. Permit the truism that people won't cheat if they've got no one to cheat with. Indeed, it is an issue we have to settle with our husbands. Yet, I dare to play the woman-to-woman card and clear this repugnant air with you.  Trying to see things through your eyes, I wonder: what makes you accept married men as lovers?
Money? How much exactly? How much can a man possibly offer you that you can't challenge yourself to make by yourself? That you are single means you are young, free and vibrant. So why not make that work positively profitably for you? I mean, except you are a daft, lazy, gold-digging leech (which I want to believe you are not), then you can be independent.

I have seen some of you sincerely swear that no single man can say he pays your bills. This is true because first they are not single and second because they are mostly "various" men. But I certainly don't mean independent like that.

You like older men? I can't judge you for that penchant. I really understand. Especially since many young men are still stuck on Jay Z's "Young Forever" and are this close to leaving puberty in their 30's. Since your turn-on is understandably maturity, I insistently scream, "By all means". However, I have a simple request: leave the married men alone. There are widowers who would love their second wives deeply and elderly men who for some reason never got married. These are a perfect class of options for you to frolic with or build that better-than-Telemundo love story. But please, leave the married men alone.

We are messed up married women? Our husbands tell you we suck in bed, nag their hormones dead and still smell of maggi no matter how we bathe? So, you become their aspirin for we headache-wives. Very kind you. But the beatitude on peacemaker doesn't in anyway mean this neither are Nobel for Peace so won. Really want to help? Leave matter for "Matayas".

Further thought on other reasons have yielded nothing. Don't join a man in defying his vows. If you have no regard for God who warns that none should put asunder (I'm astounded that you don't see a retribution there), then fear the Devil. Wives are getting vicious. Ezinwa died stuck in intercourse with Papa Emeka. Onome has gone mad. Sarah has razor cuts on her face. Our husbands can't be excited by dead girls so how do you miss these vile stories?

Another emphatic plea: leave married men alone. Person wey talk say our water no go boil, dem no go sell matches for hin village o.
For Slighted Wives,
A Concerned Wife.

Federal Government reduces electricity tariff by over 50%

Posted: 17 Mar 2015 09:00 AM PDT

The Federal Government has announced the reduction in electricity tariff by half. Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, Sam Amadi, who made the announcement in Abuja today March 17th, said after a review of the tariffs being paid by Nigerians, the commission agreed to slash it by half. The reduction takes effect from the end of March.

He said the commission agreed to remove the Multi-year tariff order, MYTO 2.1 following multiple petitions and complains from Nigerians especially members of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria who said inclusion of the MYTO 2.1 caused them to spend more on their businesses and in some cases loss of jobs.

"The Commission also invited the Chief executive Officers of the distribution companies to the hearing to respond to the case of the consumer groups. Furthermore, the Commission reviewed the technical and financial assumption of MYTO 2.1. The review shows that the major underlying cause of the skyrocketing increase in the tariff is the huge Aggregate Technical, Commercial and Collection (ATC&C) losses, which are passed through to consumers. In some DISCOs ATC&C losses increased tariff by as much as 80-103%. "…

It is the responsibility of the DISCOs to collect their revenue from their customers. Failure to do so should not be a penalty to customers who pay their bills. It is clear that removing the collection losses will lead to lower tariffs for consumers. The removal of collection losses from customer tariff has reduced tariff by more than 50 percent in some places. Please note that the reduction does not affect the CBN facility and its repayment.

"Therefore, On Monday, March 9, 2015 the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) issued a new order to the effect that henceforth collection loss, which is defined as the 'amount billed but not collected', will not be automatically passed on to consumers of electricity. Consequently, the collection loss for all DISCOs is set at zero. It is now the responsibility of DISCOs to convince the regulator of any exceptional circumstances for such loss to be passed to the consumers," Amadi said in a statement.

Unity Dolls gives lift to education with school overhaul

Posted: 17 Mar 2015 09:06 AM PDT

In line with its vision to acculturate children, unite Nigerians and deliver social change within our communities and country, Unity Girl dolls, Nigeria's first theme dolls, a product of Auldon Limited, have overhauled a dilapidated school in Ikorodu, the first in a long line of CSR initiatives which will cut across the six geopolitical zones of the country.

After years of inattention, Lagos, Salvation Army Nursery and Primary School, sited at Agunfoye in Ikorodu was in a decrepit state for years with ramshackle classrooms, leaky roofs and flaky wall paints.

The Auldon Limited, known for its commitment to education and youth empowerment, through its Unity Dolls initiative singled out the school not only to give it a facelift, but also to contribute its quota to the quality of education that pupils will enjoy on its grounds.
While speaking to journalists on the sidelines during the schools reopening, Paul Orajiaka, Chief Executive Officer Auldon Limited, said "Our next project would now be in the north; from there we'll move to the other geopolitical zones of the country," he disclosed. "All the process demands is that we notify the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) about the idea and then we'll get the go-ahead to proceed."

Unity dolls is very passionate about its promise of supporting the growth of education through social works and that is why a portion of the sales proceeds on each doll is set aside to actualize this cause. Without a doubt, investing in the future of the Nigerian Child is key to ensuring a better society and by extension greater Nigeria for the good of all.
"According to Orajiaka, Unity Dolls decided to embark on this initiative which is highly essential to developing our children with the needed skill that will see them excel, through the provision of a conducive environment for learning knowing fully well that the nation's destiny undoubtedly lies in their hands".

In driving the project, Auldon Limited turned to unconventional sources which saw the company also employ the services of Muri Olaniyi, 31 and other street urchins without professional construction skills, in a bid to keep them gainfully engaged: "Most street urchins have skills, but probably don't have the opportunity to use these skills because they are branded as touts. But if you draw them close, you'll discover they are actually very wonderful human beings. Muri and his colleagues made this project a reality alongside a team of other professionals who worked on the project."

"Auldon limited through the Unity Girls Project, is currently planning to break new ground with new set of innovative dolls as the company is in the process of manufacturing fresh set of dolls that will go beyond Nigeria to embrace the whole of Africa. "This range of dolls will be called Unity Girl Africa. Already we've gotten strong level acceptance in the Nigerian market so we're now moving on to other frontiers, designing another set that will cut across the whole of Africa. At the moment, Auldon has gotten the license for that from a leading supermarket chain with branches across the continent," he disclosed.
The packaged dolls, which will likely be launched next year, will spur the public to action as it concerns influencing a more tolerant society united in diversity, with fliers detailing Auldon Limited's CSR initiative which is tilted towards giving rundown schools a new look.

Also speaking during the school opening, the Head Teacher of Lagos, Salvation Army Nursery and Primary School Mrs. Ogunyemi Olusola who was visibly elated thanked Auldon and Unity Girl for its support and remarkable face lift which he said will without a doubt create a better atmosphere for the pupils to learn and actualize their dreams.
According to Mrs. Olusola, if other companies toe this line, education will indeed leapfrog to greater heights from the poor state it currently is in.

Jeering crowd urges suicidal man to jump - before he fell to his death

Posted: 17 Mar 2015 08:50 AM PDT

Where's our humanity for goodness sake? Why encourage someone to kill themselves? A jeering crowd urged a suicidal man in his 40s, to 'jump' before the man plunged to his death from a multi-storey car park on Saturday March 14th and many of them filmed the incident on their mobile phones

Some people were heard saying impatiently, "Get on with it", "Go on, jump,". This happened at the  Southwater shopping centre in Telford, Shrops. The man was on the rooftop for about 2 hours before finally falling to his death after being taunted. The police were around when the incident happened.

Police say they are now considering prosecuting the people who taunted the man and encouraged him to jump after thousands of people signed a petition demanding they identify and prosecute them.
