Touching! Son of Nigerian billionaire donates kidney to Israeli girl! Posted: 05 Mar 2015 01:17 PM PST The son of Nigerian billionaire Ladi Jadesimi donated his kidney to an Israeli girl named Omaima Halabi he'd never met! Found the story on Jerusalem Post. Read below... A black-hatted rabbi, a white-hatted Muslim elder and a black Christian pastor attend a Christmas celebration in a Druse village. This is not the first line of a joke, but a celebration of a gift of life. When Smith Jadesimi, a tall and athletic 25-year old from Nigeria, first approached his country's Israeli Embassy in Abuja about his desire to donate a kidney to an Israeli, he was politely but firmly turned away. Likewise, the organization that facilitates kidney transplants in Israel told him no; at least one Israeli hospital refused him, too. Jadesimi was undaunted. A man of deep faith, he knew he was supposed to donate a kidney to an Israeli, and that it would happen. Rabbi Yeshayahu Heber was among those who rejected Jadesimi. Although Heber himself was a kidney recipient and the founding chairman of Matnat Chaim – Hebrew for Gift of Life, an organization that desperately seeks organ donors – he assumed Jadesimi was seeking a way into Israel as a foreign worker, like many other Africans. Said Heber, "We don't want [those who have fallen on hard times] and want to donate their kidneys for money; we're only seeking altruistic donations." Heber, a full-bodied man with a salt-and-pepper beard, has just celebrated his 50th birthday; he reached this milestone thanks of the generosity of a kidney donor. When he was in his early 40s, working as a high-ranking educator in two prominent religious academies with more than 1,000 students, he suddenly lost the ability to bound up the stairs. His kidneys had failed, and his life now centered around dialysis. At the Jerusalem hospital where he received treatment, there was a younger kidney patient named Pinhas Turgeman, whose brother had been killed fighting in Lebanon. The two men studied Torah together through the long hours, as the dialysis machines filtered their blood. When Heber received a kidney transplant, he assured Turgeman he'd be next. But Turgeman died of a heart attack related to his disease before the rabbi could find him a donor. Turgeman's parents had lost their only two sons; Heber, too, was devastated. "On that day, the second day of Adar at 7:05 a.m., when I heard the news, Matnat Chaim was born," recounted Heber. Seven years later, 186 men, women and children have received kidneys through the organization. The first letter from Jadesimi in Nigeria arrived on September 14, 2013. Despite his initial rejection, Jadesimi kept writing. He eventually convinced Heber that he was for real. He was ready to undergo medical tests for suitability in a Nigerian hospital – and he passed them all. "The rabbi changed his mind about me, but there was still the Israeli Embassy to convince about a visa," recalled Jadesimi. I met Jadesimi at a Jerusalem hostel for children who have come to Israel for heart surgery. He is volunteering there until he returns to Nigeria. Jadesimi was born in 1987 into a large, prosperous and highly educated family, residing in the oil-rich Delta State (population four million) of Nigeria. After public school, he graduated from the University of Pretoria in South Africa and holds two master's degrees, one in statistics and another in computer engineering. "Our parents read the Bible with us every morning," he says. "They stressed the value of love. You can believe in something, obey the commandments, keep the Sabbath holy, but love is the greatest motivator. If you really love, you won't steal or covet your neighbor's wife." His parents attended an Anglican church, but Jadesimi preferred a more evangelical approach and joined the Lagos branch of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, which he says has literally millions of members. He became a lay pastor there. Staying at a friend's home while in Lagos, he began importing fish from Scandinavia and Indonesia to give to 100 women, market fishmongers who could make a living peddling them. He gave away 70 percent of his income, not only in Nigeria, but also to those in the Philippines and Haiti, to Christians in Syria and to rebuild Gaza. The Middle East seemed to him to be the most troubled; he googled "People who need help" and Matnat Chaim came up. He read about the kidney donation program and checked the reputedly low risk for the donor, first with a friend studying medicine and then with a veteran physician. "I told him I was trying to convince a friend not to donate his kidney and needed good arguments." The odds seemed favorable for a young, non-smoking, non-drinking footballer like him. "I figured that God isn't a fool to give us two kidneys if we only need one, so we're supposed to give one away to the needy," he said. "Love isn't just in your heart, you have to do something to show you love others. And not just someone you know, not selfish, someone beyond your circle. If you have $10 billion and a kidney problem, all of your money can't solve the problem – only a donor can." When Heber's letter to the embassy didn't open the door, the rabbi applied to the Interior Ministry on behalf of Jadesimi. Half a year passed before a tourist visa was issued; another month went by before the visa was stamped in Nigeria. At last, he got permission to fly to Israel. The transplant would take place in Haifa. He underwent additional medical tests, examinations, a first-ever session with a psychiatrist and another with a social worker. "After I drew pictures for the psychiatrists, a committee including professors grilled me about why I wanted to come; I explained how God had sent me." He had to return to Nigeria for an important business appointment in June 2014. He was assured he'd hear within three weeks. At last, at the end of September 2014, four months later, he received word that he'd passed inspection. Was he angry at the delays? "Love means being patient and not expressing yourself in anger," affirms Jadesimi. Now, he had to tell his parents. How did they take it? "They didn't like the idea, to put it mildly. They said I was unmarried and had no children, that I shouldn't take such a risk. I spoke about the advanced medicine in Israel. They relented, figuring they'd kill my spirit if they stood in the way. We all prayed together for success." Two years after beginning his quest to give away a kidney to an Israeli, Jadesimi was accepted. His only stipulation about the recipient was that he or she be a young person around his age. The recipient, he learned, would be Omaima Halabi, 21, a recently graduated law student from the Druse town of Daliat al-Carmel outside Haifa. Jadesimi had never heard of the Druse. The surgery was arranged for December 18 at Haifa's Rambam Medical Center. "I wasn't afraid; It was a mission with God on my side. I had peace of heart." He met Halabi, a pretty young woman with shoulder- length dark hair parted in the middle. He was amazed that he'd be able to give her another chance at a normal life. She'd already been suffering from kidney failure for a year and a half, and had a bleak future without a kidney. Omaima's father, educator Farah Halabi, heard about the rabbi from the Har Nof neighborhood of Jerusalem and his kidney-donating organization from the hospital staff where his daughter was being treated. He contacted Heber. On the day of the surgery, Christian prayers were offered in Nigeria, Jewish prayers in Jerusalem, and Druse prayers in Haifa. "We were all praying for the same thing," noted Heber. The surgeons detached and removed Halabi's kidney, replacing it with one of Jadesimi's. They connected the tubes and voila… the kidney started to work. Jadesimi says he felt pretty good after the surgery, and was eager to leave the hospital so he could observe Christmas. Farah Halabi, Omaima's dad, offered Jadesimi a ride to the Basilica of the Annunciation in Nazareth. "I had to be careful of the stitches and couldn't kneel after the surgery," says Jadesimi. Halabi had a word with the priest. "I was given a VIP seat," recounts Jadesimi. "Imagine, a VIP seat in Nazareth." Heber doesn't allow payment or even extravagant gifts to donors, but he approved of the Halabi family's offer to make a "Christmas" thanksgiving dinner. They'd do it Druse-style, with grilled meat and abundant salads. The mayor of Daliat al-Carmel would be there, the Druse elders, relatives and Rabbi Heber, too. A packaged meal from the religious kibbutz Nir Etzion was ordered for him. "I'm so grateful – to my donor Smith Jadesimi, to my family, to Rabbi Heber," said Omaima Halabi at the feast. "This was certainly arranged in heaven." No one in the room argued. |
Patience Jonathan is right, Buhari is brain-dead - FFK says Posted: 05 Mar 2015 01:02 PM PST The spokesperson of the PDP Presidential campaign organization, Femi Fani-Kayode, has come out to defend the recent remarks by first lady Patience Jonathan, that APC Presidential candidate, Gen Buhari is old and brain dead. At a press conference in Abuja today, Fani-Kayode said Mrs Jonathan only spoken the bitter truth"The First Lady has spoken in a courageous and forthright manner and, most important of all, she has spoken the bitter truth. Instead of crying like spoilt little brats and complaining, the APC and the Buhari Campaign Organisation should live with that bitter truth and leave her alone. She has every right to express herself in any way that she deems fit and she is entitled to her opinion. This is especially so given the fact that her husband, President Goodluck Jonathan, is in the presidential race. This is a man that said that he would scrap the office of the First Lady if he is elected President. If he is not ready to face public scrutiny and criticism for his often times irresponsible, retrogressive, nonsensical and asinine views, he should quit the presidential race and consider retiring from politics. Our counsel to the APC is as follows: leave the First Lady alone or prepare yourselves for a relentless verbal blitzkrieg, the likes of which you have never seen before." he said |

Photos: Police officers eviction from residence at Police College, Ikeja Posted: 05 Mar 2015 12:03 PM PST A LIB reader who is a police officer sent in the photos and writes; I'm a Police Officer serving in Lagos and a victim of what follows. 23 days to the start of national elections and 58 police officers with their families are about to be thrown out on the streets! An order to this effect - that the police officers vacate their temporary place of abode latest Monday 9th of March 2015-, was given by the Commandant of Police College Ikeja, CP Tunde Sobulo at a meeting he had with the officers on Thursday, 5th of March. It will be recalled that National dailies like The Punch newspaper, Daily Independent and Leadership Newspaper ran stories on the 5th of March about the miserable plight of these officers who dwell in highly unsanitary and crowded hostels despite the completion of renovation work begun on their houses in September 2014. That this eviction only affects residents of Band Block 1 & 2 -quarters meant for junior officers-, whereas the entire College was renovated is telling. This injustice is made worse by the fact that despite not residing in their houses for the last six months, these officers have had rent ranging from 6,000-22,000 Naira deducted monthly from their salaries. It is disheartening that a cry for justice and improved living conditions is being met by such retrogressive action. That people in service of their nation will be treated as such does not bode well for the morale of our service men. How can the police protect our lives and properties when their properties are on the streets and their families have no place to stay? Well meaning Nigerians, please help. P.s. the pictures show the renovated building and properties littering the environment in various state of decay. These properties were covered with tapolin and have been in the open air since September and most are now damaged. |

APC has sinister agenda with card reader - Fayose Posted: 05 Mar 2015 07:44 AM PST Press release from Ekiti state below... The energy being dissipated by the All Progressive Congress in advocating for the use of card reader in the coming elections has been described as another sinister motive of the party to cause confusion during and after the election. The Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose said this in a statement made available to journalists by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi in Ado Ekiti on Thursday. Fayose noted that APC is known for its penchant for promotion of confusion and division in Nigeria for political gain even at the expense of the well being and unity of the country. He explained that in as much as the usage of the card reader is noble the preparation of the INEC for it has been very poor which is believed to be a conspiracy between the electoral body with the APC if the agitation of the APC on the card reader is anything to rely upon. Mr Fayose explained that INEC Chairman Professor Attahiru Jega has told Nigerian that the card reader battery can go flat at most five hour which means that unless there is alternative power supply the machine will be rendered useless after the battery has gone flat. The question now is that will the INEC provide power generators in each of the poling unit in the whole country so that by the time the battery is down the electoral officers could switch to the alternative power; Without this the introduction of the card reader is nonsense. The governor also said that Nigerian should know that INEC has never hidden the fact that the card readers are internet base in delivery and considering the fact that most of the Nigeria towns and villages are not fixed with internet that means that the card can not deliver until when it get to where there is internet to deliver its result then it means that the usage would be a failure because a lot of contradictory information would have dealt havoc on the entire exercise before the card reader can deliver its results. Fayose estressed that when the election in Ekiti and Osun States were conducted the Independent National Electoral Commission didn't use the card reader , APC did not cry wolf so also when the governorship elections in Anambra and Edo States were conducted without card reader APC didn't raise a foot but now that they know there is no way its presidential candidate can win without rigging they want Nigeria to see sense in the usage of card reader that had never be tested or acknowledged to be free from manipulation. "I can say boldly that the leadership of APC have hidden agenda in the usage of the card reader that is why their clamour for it has been so vociferous when they know abinitio that there is no way their patty can win this election." "They are looking for preemptive excuses for violence during and after the election so that they can gain some undue sympathy whereas the usage of the card reader is not important to the election as the availability of security which they campaigned against like hell on earth" The Governor posited that in all the recent elections where has the use of card reader became a disputable discus to warrant the unwarranted campaign for it by the APC saying that the party has left campaign for their ailing presidential candidate, Major General Mohamodu Buhari to card reader in which they believe could be manipulated in their favour and when it fails to blame it on PDP or President Goodluck Jonathan thereby their supporters can go to town with their chaos. He added that APC as a pary has never supported or advanced the course of progress of Nigeria, rather the party enjoys seeing the nation in crisis always that is why their recent clamour for the usage of card reader gas further exposed their retrogressive antics. |

Exclusive pics: Pro-military group protest against Punch, Daily Trust, Leadership newspapers Posted: 05 Mar 2015 07:24 AM PST Here are exclusive photos at the picketing of some media organizations by a civil society group called Citizens in Defence of the Integrity of Nigerian Military (CDINM) in Abuja today March 5th. The group said Punch, Leadership, Daily Trust and The Nation newspapers are hostile to the Nigerian military. See more photos and the letter they gave to the affected media houses after the cut... CITIZENS IN DEFENCE OF THE INTEGRITY OF NIGERIAN MILITARY (CDINM) #WeLoveNigeraMilitary 08175286969, 08026617788 The Editor-in-Chief Daily Trust Newspapers Utako District ABUJA Dear Sir, STOP YOUR BAD PRESS AGAINST THE NIGERIAN MILITARY We are a group of patriotic Nigerians that came together under the banner of CITIZENS IN DEFENCE OF THE INTEGROTY OF NIGERIAN MILITARY (CDINM). We have noted with disgust and total indignation, the continued hostility and anti-Nigerian military reports and commentary of your newspaper, the Daily Trust. As concerned Nigerians who daily monitor news and developments in the country, particularly the counter-terrorist operation in the north east, we are appalled to note that your newspaper has consistently reported the activities of our military in a manner that neither represent the truth or promote the course of our national security. We are here therefore to formally register our deep resentment over your editorial policy which seems to have allowed the primordial sentiments of ethnicity, religion politics or whatever interests to becloud your sense of nationalism even when reporting sensitive national security matters like the ongoing war against terror. Your consistent and unwarranted negative reportage of the military gives vent to parochialism and partisanship and has without doubt casted our gallant military in bad light while emboldening the terrorists and casting them in a toga of invincibility. A lot of us here are from the states mostly affected by the activities of the terrorists. We have lost relations and friends; our towns and communities are devastated, our people forced into refugee situation in their own country. Our interest therefore is to assist our military to end this scourge to enable us live our normal lives again. We do not need media reports that will aggravate the situation or embolden the terrorists and their accomplices. Our visit here today is essentially to add our voice of caution to those whose stock in trade is to willfully denigrate and ultimately destroy the only indispensable and unifying institution in our dear country to be mindful of the dangers and consequences of your perfidy and to remind you that Nigerian is greater than them. Please be reminded that we are not your enemies or protagonists; we are rather your loyal readers who are concerned about your unfair reports and commentary against our cherished military. Thank you as you make amends beginning from today. Mallam Aliyu Ibrahim (Co Convener) |
