Disqualification of Buhari from presidential poll: APC has lied once more - Fani-Kayode Posted: 24 Mar 2015 12:54 PM PDT A press statement from PDP Director of Media and Publicity of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation (PDPPCO), Chief Femi Fani-Kayode said yesterday that the All Progressives Congress (APC) spokesperson, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has told yet another lie about speculated the disqualification of the APC presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari from the March 28 election. Fani-Kayode in a swift reaction to Mohammed on the issue said, "Lai Mohammed has told yet another dirty lie. What on earth is our business with Buhari's court case? "We know that he does not have a certificate and that he was not eligible to contest but we have moved on from there and we are ready to meet him in the field. The truth is that the APC are suffering from all manner of paranoia and they have lost touch with reality. "They are the proverbial conspiracy theorists who are so consumed by their own morbid fears that they sleep in their wardrobes and under their beds every night. Each time someone knocks at the gates of their homes they wave their hands in the air, they shiver and scream and they say 'the President has sent the security people to come and arrest us'. "Frankly they deserve to be pitied. They see government conspiracies everywhere and they have become prisoners of their own wild hallucinations. The truth is that we are not in the least bit interested in General Buhari's travails at the court and we are not in a position to influence the decision of the judge or the outcome of the case one way or the other. "The problem with the APC is that they cannot appreciate the difference between the judiciary and the executive. They are so primitive that they cannot comprehend the concept of ''separation of powers'. Simply because General Buhari himself controlled the courts and threatened judges when he was in power he thinks that the same thing is happening 31 years later under the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan. He does not appreciate the fact that times have changed and that our courts and judges are fiercely independent and deeply courageous. "We wish General Buhari well in his case tomorrow but frankly speaking it is the last thing on our minds and we are not losing any sleep over it. Our prayer is that, whichever way, the rule of law is upheld and that justice is done. "We also hope that he is not disqualified so that we have the opportunity to deal with him once and for all and demystify him at the polls. It would be a cruel act to deprive us of the opportunity of bursting his bubble once and for all and to humiliate him at the polls. "We must remember that it was the Director General of the Buhari Presidential Campaign Organisation, Governor Rotimi Amaechi, that has interfered with the work of the judiciary in his state and that has attempted to intimidate the judges by shutting down the state High Courts for the last one year. "It is interesting to note that when the same APC that is now calling into question the integrity of the judiciary got an injunction from the Lagos State High court to stop the broadcast of the infamous 'Lion of Bourdillon' documentary they did not complain about government interference in the judiciary at the time. Neither did they complain when they got another order from the Lagos State High Court to stop the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, President Goodluck Jonathan, from deploying troops to help secure lives during the election. "When things go their way the courts are good but when they suspect that they may not they then make baseless and childish allegations that have no basis in logic or reality. Our advice to them is to grow up, get real and prepare for the greatest humiliation of their lives on March 28." Signed: Chief Femi Fani-Kayode Director of Media and Publicity |
I am a daughter of Maryam Babangida, I am her fan - Patience Jonathan Posted: 24 Mar 2015 10:20 AM PDT First lady, Patience Jonathan says she is a daughter and a fan of former first lady, late Maryam Babangida. Mrs Jonathan said this while addressing Ondo women at the PDP women rally in Akure, Ondo state today March 24th. Mrs Jonathan also advised the youths of Ondo to pursue their education, stressing that if she wasn't educated, she wouldn't be a first lady; "Majority of the people of Ondo are educated and I believe you know the importance of education because without education there is no future. We should thank God for the administration of Goodluck and PDP. If somebody is talking and you are not educated, can you be there? As I am standing before you, if I am not educated, will they choose me?" she said |

Mum pole dancing with baby strapped to her back sparks online backlash Posted: 24 Mar 2015 09:25 AM PDT Mother of a younger girl, Ashley Wright, came under fire from people on social media after she posted a video of herself pole dancing with her baby strapped to her back. In the Youtube video, Ashley performed a series of moves to The Circle of Life, a popular Disney song from the Lion King film, with her baby secured to her back in a material sling. Alongside her video, Ashley wrote: "Decided we should do a routine together... And so thankful other could help assist me in capturing and choreographing this moment/experience." Many commenters slammed her, saying her routine was too 'dangerous' for the child, that she could slip and fall on the child. Many even asked child protective services to be called. Ashley said she couldn't be bothered about other people's opinion and refused to take down the video |
President Jonathan: The Beginning of the End of Boko Haram Posted: 24 Mar 2015 09:08 AM PDT Sponsored post.
When the Boko Haram insurgency, which reared its head in earnest in 2009 and fuelled inopportunely by rogue elites for the 2007 elections, took root, it was time to hem in the insurgents and deal decisively with their undesirable acts. It was a tough act. Some antagonists of government had earlier promised to foment violence after losing out in the 2007 elections. Their actions would lead to sabotage, divisiveness and outright support for the insurgency. They infiltrated the ranks of government and the armed forces and caused esprit-de-corps to dip among the rank and file. Added to this, Nigeria was not getting all the much needed support from her neighbours in arresting the miscreants. Things got so out of hand that suicide bombings, kidnappings, mass murder and land grabs were the order of the day. It has taken the sagacity and tact by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, to reverse the plunge. Firstly, he moved to equip the armed forces through trainings and provision of cutting-edge military hardware. Then, he engaged Nigeria's neighbours in fruitful diplomatic reengagement. In the process, the much needed esprit-de-corps among the Nigerian troops was revived and a previously taciturn neighbourhood came alive in helping to fight the insurgents. In the past few weeks, Boko Haram has been on the back foot. The once dreaded group has now been reduced to a mere gang of irritants. It won't be long before the entire insurgency is totally decimated. Assuming Nigeria were to continue with a stymied principle of dealing with every problem with force and farce, how successful would it have been in dealing with the Boko Haram insurgency? The skirmish of 1983 not only took Nigeria backwards in her regional diplomacy, it was not well thought out and has unwittingly cost Nigeria so much in terms of men and resources. Its progenitor actually even boasts about it without much discernment. We must not go back to such mindless strong-arm diplomacy. It is wasteful and needless. Rather, the path taken by Nigeria's President and Commander-in-Chief is the way to go and should be a lesson in strategy and regional engagement for years to come. That's why it is key that all Nigerians should reelect Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on March 28, 2015. They're trying to disqualify Buhari last minute? Press statement from APC Posted: 24 Mar 2015 08:25 AM PDT A suit seeking to disqualify Buhari was adjourned to Wednesday. Read APC's press statement below The All Progressives Congress has warned against any orchestrated, last-minute disqualification of its presidential candidate, Gen. Buhari, in order to pave the way for an easy victory for President Jonathan or even another postponement of the elections "If it is true, as it is being widely speculated across the country, that the Jonathan Administration has procured a judgement to disqualify the APC Presidential Candidate on Wednesday, when the Federal High Court in Abuja is expected to rule on the issue, then it portends a great danger for our country,'' the party warned in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed. It said, in addition to other reasons, the six-week postponement of the elections may have been used by those who never wanted the polls to hold in the first instance to shop for such a satanic judgement. ''Anyone who will disqualify a presidential candidate on the eve of an election can only have one and only one purpose for that: to trigger chaos and pandemonium across the country. Perhaps this is the reason for the deployment of troops across the country to crack down on possible protests and create confusion ''Then, those who orchestrated the disqualification will simply use what they expect to be angry reactions nationwide as an excuse to postpone the elections again, thus triggering a constitutional crisis, the end of which no one can predict. ''This is why we are hoping that good reason will prevail and nothing will be done, deliberately, to plunge Nigeria into crisis by the same people who have always been quick to say their political ambition is not worth the blood of any Nigerian,'' APC said.
