| 'APC is a party of shameless and desperate liars' - PDP Posted: 01 Aug 2015 12:54 PM PDT  "APC Is A Party Of Shameless And Desperate Liars" - PDP The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), as a party of shameless and desperate liars. The party berated the APC for sticking to its lies and empty denials despite overwhelming evidences that the new Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Alhaji Lawal Daura is an APC member.PDP National Publicity Secretary Chief Olisa Metuh in a statement on Saturday said the spate of lies chunked out by the APC and its spokesperson, Alhaji Lai Mohammed in the desperation to suppress the truth is not only reprehensible but also symptomatic of lack of character. "When the matter first came up, the APC spokesman hurriedly went on air on RayPower radio wherein he stated categorically to the nation that he never knew or met "the man", and that "the man" has never had any contact or dealing whatsoever with the APC as a party before his appointment as DSS Director General. "When we came up with the newspaper advertorial sponsored by the APC wherein it announced Alhaji Daura as a member of its campaign Intelligence Committee, a very important position vested on him by virtue of his membership of the party, as well as pictures of him with other members of the committee, Lai Mohammed started singing a new tone, insulted PDP leaders as hallucinating out of poverty and asked PDP to produce Daura's membership card and evidence of registration. "We ask, is APC demanding that the PDP invade Daura's house to get his personal card? Or that we should go to Daura to get the APC ward register? How on earth does the APC spokesperson want us to go and ask a man in charge of arresting and detaining people who hold views contrary to those of his party and government to give us his party membership card? How on earth can the PDP request and get the APC membership register in Daura's ward? Who do Lai Mohammed and the APC think they are fooling? Nigerians?" the PDP queried. The PDP noted that in his lame effort to defend his party, the APC spokesman either intentionally lied or exhibited crass ignorance by trying to equate the DSS with the National Orientation Agency (NOA), the Police Service Commission (PCC), or the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) where a Democrat, Mr. Leon Panetta was named by President Obama as head. "Perhaps Mr. Lai Mohammed needs to constantly update and crosscheck his facts. We wish to inform him and the APC that there is a great difference between the CIA and the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) after which the Nigerian DSS was fashioned. "Whereas the US FBI and the Nigerian DSS are vested with the statutory tasks of providing domestic intelligence, security service and criminal investigations among others for the state and can be equated with the British M15 and Russian FSB, all of which have their headships insulated from politics, the CIA on the other hand is vested with collecting of intelligence overseas, the same role as Nigeria's National Intelligence Agency (NIA). "Furthermore, the NOA and PCC are agencies that have no powers to investigate, arrest or detain, neither can they be used to harass, hound or intimidate. Also, we wish to remind Lai Mohammed that Mr. Mike Omeri, in writing, declined the appointment into the PDP campaign committee because of his position as Director General of the NOA. We note therefore that in drawing his comparisons, Mr. Mohammed either exhibited high level ignorance or acted ostensibly to deceive Nigerians yet again. "Severally in the past, we have exposed Lai Mohammed in terms of lies but instead of retracing his steps, he keeps on moving from one 'lai' to the other. Only in May this year, Lai Mohammed nearly derailed the transition programme when he issued a false statement alleging that the APC team was being frustrated, just for the head of the APC's Transition Committee, Alhaji Ahmed Joda to announce that there was nothing of such. "Nigerians have not forgotten how Lai Mohammed had in June 2014 issued a statement wherein he alleged that a plane carrying Kano state Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso to attend an APC rally in Ekiti was denied landing permission in Akure, only for Kwankwaso's Director of Press Affairs, Baba Dantiye to announce that his boss was at another event in Kano and had no plans to travel to Ekiti state. "The APC spokesman should know that being a spokesperson of a political party does not mean he should be dishing out lies. He should shed his unnecessary arrogance and understand that the APC did not win the Presidential election on account of his lies and deceit. In fact, this constant falsehood has become a huge embarrassment and source of worry for responsible and respectable persons in the APC. "Quite often, he boasts of arranging a course for the opposition. We ask, is he arranging a course in lies? For the umpteenth time, let us inform him and the APC that the PDP does not need their course on the spreading of hatred and strife with lies, propaganda and deceit. Our form of opposition is focused only on constructive criticisms while presenting credible alternatives to the policies and programmes of the present administration. "Our worry however is that the APC spokesperson has so negatively influenced some hundreds of young people who now engage in abuses as a model for effective communication and this is not healthy for the polity. We urge Nigerians to purge themselves of this poisonous mode of communication so that we can have credible and decorous political discourse in this country" the party said. The PDP insisted that in appointing its member to head the DSS, a very sensitive security agency vested with numerous powers, the APC has annexed the Service as a tool to suppress the opposition and other Nigerians who hold views contrary to that of government, thus preparing the ground for dictatorship and a reign of terror on the people. "No wonder we are now witnessing invasions of houses of PDP members as well as harassments, arrests and detentions of electoral officers and tribunal members in Akwa-Ibom, Rivers and other PDP state where the APC is desperate to upturn our electoral victory at all cost and by any means", it stated. The party however restated that no amount of harassment and threats or conniving with people, whether disgruntled PDP members or staff, can intimidate, blackmail or distract the PDP from discharging its duty to Nigerians, of providing constructive and credible opposition to the policies and programmes of the present administration. | Photo: Teacher shot dead in Enugu Posted: 01 Aug 2015 12:17 PM PDT  Vanguard reports that Mrs Onyishi who hailed from Mbu -Akpoti in Isi- Uzo local government area of the state had accompanied a relation of hers , Mrs. Eze, to attend the swearing-in ceremony of her husband, Mr M.E Eze, who was appointed Attorney -General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, when she was attacked and shot in the head by two unknown gunmen. The victim had left the venue of the swearing in ceremony in company of her Kano-based sister, Mrs Ndidiamaka Nnaji, who she dropped off at their family compound along Ogurugu road in Nsukka, picked up her cousin, Miss Jacinta Okwor, who lives with her and headed for her residence at Uwani- Ugwu. She was driving on the lonely road leading to her home when she noticed two men who looked like their motorcycle was bad. In a bid to assist them, she flashed her light at them so they could see what they were doing when suddenly one of the men brought out a gun and immediately shot at her, shattering her skull. The lady who was with the deceased when the ugly incident happened, Jacinta Okwor, narrated their travail. "I was in the vehicle with her when the people emerged and shot her. The two men demanded nothing from her, only pointed gun and shot her instantly. When she was shot, she fell on my laps. I did not know she was dead. When the two men left, I started calling her to wake up for us to go, unknown to me that she was dead. As my efforts to wake her failed, I took the bush part and ran to a house not too far from the scene and informed her husband that aunty has been shot dead just now. The killers did not demand anything from her. I sat with her in the front seat. It was a horrible experience. I have not recovered from the trauma. The cloth I wore that faithful day is still soaked with the blood of my aunty. God will never forgive her killers. I am an apprentice tailor under my sister's care but now they have killed her. One of the two men was dragging motor cycle and she flashed light to help him only for another to emerge from the bush and shot her, point blank without uttering a word to her."Uzoamaka Nnaemeka Ugwuokor, the Elder sister to the deceased said "What prompted her killing still remains a mystery to the family that just buried their father, Igwe Gabriel Ugwuokwor. She was driving herself when the incident happened. She never joined politics for one day. Her only business in politics was to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed commissioner. The incident has been reported to Nsukka police division who promptly responded to the call put across to them when she was shot. Both the police and some clergy men assisted in taken her to Bishop Shanahan mortuary where her corpse was deposited. Presently, the matter has been transferred to Enugu state police headquarters. The gruesome killing of our sister has taken the family to a devastating point of agony, mourning, confusion and pity. She is the most endearing in the hearts of members of the family. She was humble, amiable and loving to the people that interacted with her. We are not suspecting any person for now,. Our only prayer is for God to bring out the killers of our sister. She was a mother of five, two boys and three girls. The first is a first year student at UNN, the second will be writing the post UME, the third is in SS 3, the fourth is in SS 1 while the last one is in primary five" she said | ||

| Bobbi Kristina is laid to rest, fight breaks out during the funeral Posted: 01 Aug 2015 10:45 AM PDT  Mourners including her father, Grammy award winning singer Monica and actor Michael Jai White her father Bobby Brown and Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, Tyler Perry amongst others, but one very notable absentee was Bobbi Kristina's boyfriend, Nick Gordon, who found her unconscious in a bathtub at her home nearly six months ago, they all gathered at an Alpharetta, Atlanta church today to say goodbye to Bobbi Kristina Brown, the only child of Whitney Houston and R&B singer Bobby Brown.  Eight police motorcycles escorted three stretch limousines carrying mourners to the church ahead of the service. A procession of dozens of cars followed. Security was tight at the church.  Despite pleading with Brown and Bobbi's aunt, Pat Houston, Gordon was told he was not welcome at the funeral - which is believed to have a Sweet 16 theme. However, it was not clear if Dionne Warwick, the cousin of Whitney Houston attended after reports she is furious with Pat Houston for deciding on the 'inappropriate' theme.  Bobbi Kristina's funeral was interrupted Saturday morning by an outburst from Leolah Brown, Bobbi's aunt, who was swiftly removed from the church with the help of Tyler Perry. This happened as Pat Houston was getting ready to speak when Leolah began screaming, "Pat you know you are wrong for this!"  We're told security descended on Leolah and escorted her out. Tyler Perry followed to help diffuse the situation. As we reported, the Browns and Houstons are feuding again. Several members of Brown's family are upset that Pat Houston has solicited funds instead of flowers for her charity.   A furious Leolah Brown left the service half way to tell the gathered media, 'Whitney Houston will haunt Pat Houston from the grave.' Dressed in brown and dressed in a white hat and jacket , Bobbi's great aunt said that everything was going well until Pat Houston started to speak about 90 minutes into the service.  Addressing reporters outside St. James United Methodist Church, Brown declined to say exactly what Pat Houston had said that so incensed her, but did say that she felt compelled to get her frustrations off her chest. | Jonathan former aides, Abati, Adegbe, Obua, others stripped of passports Posted: 01 Aug 2015 03:31 AM PDT  A competent source told Saturday Vanguard that the decision to withdraw the official passports of the former aides of Dr Jonathan was to prevent misuse and conflict with new aides and officials of President Buhari, who assumed duties on May 29. It could not be established last night whether the affected officials were ordered by the Presidency to surrender the passports or whether they did so voluntarily. But Saturday Vanguard learned that the affected former aides of Jonathan had already returned the passports to the Presidential Villa preparatory to being handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS.Another source hinted that the withdrawal of the former president's henchmen's travel documents was to prevent some of them who have some issues to explain to the new administration from leaving the country and being given preferential treatment at their destinations. "Don't forget that some of these officials may be needed here to answer some questions relating to their tenure," the source said.However, the Nigerian Immigration Service said last night that there was no ill-motive in withdrawing the official passports of government officials who had completed their assignments. NIS Public Relations Officer, Mr. Joachim Obua, explained that it was normal for officials of government to surrender their official passports at the end of their tenure. "It is important for the position to be made clear that official passports are not the property of anyone holding it. She scratched one of his eyes and he needed medical treatment following the incident and took three days to recover, he testified in court. Naomi was convicted of assault by a Sicilian court yesterday Friday July 31st and received a six months suspended prison sentence. | ||
