Buhari is a Northern President - Fayose

Press statement from the Ekiti state governor
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has said President Mohammadu Buhari was operating as a president of the Northern Nigeria only, describing steps taken by the president since May 29, 2015 as tainted in ethnic and tribal colouration, which is inimical to the unity of Nigeria.

The governor, who descried what he called President Buhari's "Nothernisation of Nigeria," said "appointments made by the President so far negate the principle of federal character and it appears the unity in diversity of Nigeria is being taken for granted by the President."

According to a statement issued on Monday, by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said it was wrong for President Buhari to have made 31 major appointments and only seven will come from the South while 24 were from the North.

He asked; "Under Buhari, are people from Southern Nigeria only meant to be hounded and harassed by anti-corruption agencies and the Department of State Security (DSS) while those from the North are meant to enjoy federal government juicy appointments?"

The governor said "apart from lopsided appointments being made by the President, I am worried that construction of Lagos-Ibadan expressway has been slowed down while work has stopped on Lokoja-Abuja roads, which are the major roads linking the Southern part of Nigeria with the North.

"Also, we have been told by the Federal Government that the Second Niger Bridge project has been suspended and one is now beginning to remember how Buhari cancelled the Lagos Metroline Project in 1985 at a loss of over $78 million (then) to the Lagos tax payers."

Governor Fayose, who maintained that Nigeria can only move forward if there was equity and fairness, said those who made the country's constitution and enshrined the principle of Federal Character were mindful of the ethnic diversity of the country, adding that President Buhari's running Nigeria as if he was a Northern Nigeria's President was not in the interest of the country.

"They said the President made the appointments on merit and I wish to ask whether there are no competent people in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Southern part of Nigeria, especially South-East where no one has been appointed.

"Are they saying Igbo leader like Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, who graduated with a first class honours degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Lagos, is not competent to be appointed as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF)?

"To my mind, these lopsided appointments skewed in favour of the North is a reminder of President Buhari's tenure as Military Head of State and I hope the President is not seeing Nigeria of today as that of 1984 because doing so will mean that he has turned himself to a northern president, thereby justifying his notion that those who gave him 97 percent votes must get more benefits than those who gave him five percent votes."

Project Fame 8: Amos Anderson makes historic comeback!

History was made in the ongoing weekly MTN Project Fame West Africa 8.0 as Emmanuel Amos Anderson became the firstcontestant in the history of the competitionto be eliminated and then readmitted into the competition. Anderson, who is currently studying International Relations at IRGIB Africa University, Cotonou was the centre of attention as the judges were forced to cave into pressure from the audience by granting him reprieve to continue in the competition following his initial elimination. 

 


Like a prophet, Show anchor, Joseph Benjamin, set the tone for what could turned out to be the most nerve racking episode of this year's edition of Project Fame with his ominous speech: "The show this week is going to be with lots of surprises and am sure you all will be delighted to see what the surprise is all about".

Interestingly Anderson was not the only contestant on probation. The previous week saw all the Contestants placed on the dreaded probation. DeindeOkubajo, ChikeOsebukaEzekpeazu, OluchiOdii,Funmilayo ComfortArewa, Adanoritsewo Gold Tosanwumi and Pearl Awa-Agwuall escaped elimination, while KumiAmmaKorantema, Jeffrey UfedoAkor, Stephen SackiteyOkleteyBiqo, JoyChukwuma and Emmanuel Amos Anderson had to singtheir way to redemption. 


Kumi was saved by the panel of Judges made up of Bibi Brew, Ade Bantu and Tee.y Mixwhile theFaculty members comprising Uncle Ben, Joke Silva and Dupe Igesaved Jeff. Joy on the otherhand had her fellow contestants to thank for saving her from elimination leavingBiko and Anderson up for elimination.

As the show continues, followers will probably be asking if Anderson's luck will still hold out,or will the young man's dreams of fame and future be shattered?

An unidentified Nigerian woman, three Canadians and a Pakistani are among at least 10 people that lost their lives in a fire outbreak that engulfed parts of a residential compound rented by oil giant Saudi Aramco, in Saudia Arabia yesterday August 30th. According to a statement the Saudi Arabian government, 10 people died while 259 were injured.


 A preliminary investigation suggests a short circuit in an electrical transformer in the building's basement sparked the blaze which quickly spread through 130 cars parked in the basement.

Saeed Abdullah Rashid Al Sereidi, 50, his two sons Abdul Aziz Saeed Abdullah, 24 and Ahmad Saeed Abdullah, 23, and son-in-law Mohammad Saeed Rashid, 37, died inside their home's septic tank while trying to clean the sewage tank.The incident took place in the Rol Dhana area in Fujairah on Saturday, August 29th.


According to the nephew, the tank had been drained by a municipality tanker earlier on Saturday morning. Soon after, Saeed Abdullah Rashid Al Sereidi poured a strong chemical down the bathroom drains leading to the tank for additional cleaning. When he went into the tank to check the results, the chemical, said to be an acid, reacted with the moisture and produced a deadly toxic gas, Gulf News reports. By the time family members could understand what was happening, it was already too late for the four victims.

"All the poison went on my uncle's face and he fell down. He called his wife for help but she couldn't do anything. She went back inside and told his sons, 'help your dad!' One of his sons went directly into the tank, felt dizzy and fell. His brother went in after him and the same thing happened. Then she started screaming and her son-in-law, who was a neighbour, came and jumped inside as well. He smelt something and fell down," he explained.
The victims were rushed to Fujairah Hospital, where they were declared dead on arrival. Their bodies were later shifted to the forensic laboratory for a post-mortem and will be handed over later to their family for burial.
"The tragedy is that they died in their attempts to rescue each other," Lieutenant Colonel Dr Saeed Al Hassani, acting director of Media and Public Relations Department in Fujairah Police, told Gulf News,
Commenting on Saturday's incident, Mohammad Saif Al Afkham, director- general of Fujairah Municipality, said the municipality had nothing to do with this incident.
"It happened due to a lack of awareness. People need to be more educated about the risk of using such chemical substances," he said

"We did not have to pass examination to get appointed into these positions. It was not because of our tribes, or our faiths, or our political groups that we were considered worthy for these positions. If it is such, I am sure none of us would have been considered worthy of these appointments. Shell oil workers 'are fired after video of them having sex is found by man's angry wife

Two oil workers have been sacked after a video of them having sex in a hotel room was shared online. Lee Hanlon, 32, and Amy Maxwell, 33, who are both married and met while working for Shell, recorded their illicit encounter on his mobile phone.

The film was discovered by Mr Hanlon's wife Charon, who sent it to all his contacts including friends, workmates and bosses in an act of revenge. But the footage then 'spread like wildfire' as more people passed it on in messages and emails.


It is understood police are investigating the distribution of the video as well as allegations that Mrs Hanlon, 37, vandalised her husband's car after discovering his affair. A police spokesman said: 'Inquiries are at an early stage.'

Mr Hanlon, a former project engineer for Shell, is believed to have met Mrs Maxwell six months ago at the oil firm's decommissioning plant in Aberdeen. They agreed to meet at a Premier Inn hotel earlier this month and filmed their night together.

Mrs Hanlon is understood to have found three clips a few days later when she used her husband's phone to take a photo at a friend's wedding.

Afterwards, she set up a group on messaging app WhatsApp and, posing as her husband, shared the footage with all of the contacts listed on his phone. She wrote: 'Been caught cheating on wife and 8 month old baby with s*** from Shell. Anyone else up for it?'
The three clips then went viral online. Mrs Hanlon also allegedly scratched 'cheating b******' into the paintwork of her husband's Audi.
But it is understood the couple, who have a young son, are still together. There was no answer at their three-bedroom £300,000 home in Westhill, near Aberdeen, yesterday.
Mrs Maxwell refused to comment last night. But she told The Sun on Sunday that Mrs Hanlon's decision to share the video had ruined her life. 'I don't know how to describe all this,' she said.
'Everybody has seen the videos. It has ruined lives. It wasn't an affair, it was a one-off. It was only on his phone for two days before his wife found it.'

Mrs Maxwell said she was still with her husband but that they were planning to move away from the area. Their £465,000 home in Banchory, Aberdeenshire – where they moved last April – is now for sale. Mrs Maxwell added: 'So many people have been in touch to tell me about the video.

'Everyone has seen the clips – apart from my husband. But he knows about them, obviously.
'We're still together. We were always planning to move away but this has speeded things up a bit. I'm not looking for a job just now. I decided to take some time off. I've had sympathy from everyone. I've no idea what their relationship [Mr and Mrs Hanlon's] was like but she was obviously searching through his phone. You don't do that without a reason.'

An oil worker told The Sun on Sunday: 'The couple's videos are the talk of the town – they spread like wildfire. I don't know anyone who has not seen them. '
Mr and Mrs Hanlon married at a boutique hotel in South Queensferry, near Edinburgh, in November 2013.
A video of the couple's wedding day posted online shows them posing for photographs and laughing with friends and family.
A spokesman for Shell said Mr Hanlon and Mrs Maxwell were not directly employed by the company, but were contractors hired through an agency.

She said they had since been 'redeployed' by the agency.
