Malik, a mortgage adviser of Pakistani origin, had married Maira on July 30 in London, the British media reports. The two had reportedly gone out for dinner and shopping before returning to the hotel for a stroll. According to the wife, Maira, they were 'paddling and chatting' when they went around to the other side of the swimming pool. The wife has said she was taking pictures of her husband when he was walking backwards towards the pool and moments later just as she had put her phone back in bag, she saw "his hands going up and down" in the pool. | Ekiti Reps Member hails Fayose’s criticism of Buhari Posted: 26 Aug 2015 08:53 AM PDT  A member of the House of Representatives, representing Ekiti South Federal Constituency two, Hon Akin Awodumila has commended the Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose for providing credible and vibrant opposition to the All Progressives Congress (APC) led federal government.Hon Awodumila, who was reacting to statement credited to a former House of Representatives member, Bamidele Faparusi, that Governor Fayose was dragging the name of Ekiti in the mud for criticising President Muhammadu Buhari, said; "Only an intending dictator will castigate any Nigerian for making his position on the APC-led Federal Government public and democracy is not about suppressing people's freedom of expression." The Reps member said himself and the entire people of his constituency were pleased with Governor Fayose for demonstrating the true Ekitiman in him, describing the governor as the emerging national leader of the opposition. Hon. Awodumila urged President Buhari to be mindful of people like Hon Bamidele Faparusi, who were desirous of turning him to a dictator by making him appear like one that must be worshipped. He said; "President Buhari will make a better president if he listens to genuine critics of his government like Governor Fayose because those are the only people that can tell him the bitter truth. "We were all in this country when Governor Fayose debunked the claim that States were given bailout fund to pay outstanding salaries. Some of the APC sycophants like Faparusi said the governor was attacking President Buhari. But what happened later? Was Governor Fayose's position not corroborated by the Governor's Forum?" The National Assembly member urged Governor Fayose to remain resolute in putting the APC-led federal government on its toes, saying; "vibrant opposition is the soul of democracy and no one can stop Fayose, the holder of Ekiti people's popular mandate from airing his views on national issues. |
| A Billionaire’s reasons to Believe Posted: 26 Aug 2015 09:00 AM PDT  I remember my years in university and how I loved cooking. Remember the student flat kitchens and how I'd always try out a new dish during the weekends. Was never afraid to try something new. Little did I know I found my passion! I remember working in a kitchen in the UK and just loving the way it worked.The thrills, the spills, the finesse, the aromas, spices, the sound of the knife hitting the boards, the sight of food being plated especially. All this tickled my senses and gave me dreams almost every night. So it's no surprise that my dream was to become a chef. Returned in 2008 to my Motherland, after turning down a job in a big energy firm, and decided to hit the ground running with my first restaurant. The passionate juices were flowing non-stop all through the renovations down till my last day there. I remember sleeping over night at site just to make sure satisfactory work was done on time. I remember a lot during that period even down to the mosquito bites. I always walked into the kitchen with a lot of ginger and joy because no matter how small, I was living my dream. Unfortunately things didn't pan out as I wanted it to. I had to sell my share of the restaurant and was back to square one. To me it was like my dream had turned to a nightmare. A lot went through my mind. I asked myself a lot of questions. One question I asked myself a lot was if I had made the right decision not going for a desk job or white collar work. I tried a lot of things during my 'sabbatical' from hospitality, but none of them really worked for me. One of the things I tried was real estate, but I just didn't have enough drive for it. The year 2012 rolled on, and the Occupy Nigeria protests started. I was stuck in my flat trying to figure out how to occupy my own time. I remember lamenting to my dearest mother and as the sweetest mum she's always been she suggested I spend my time baking those cookies I've always dreamt of baking and let her taste it later. So I went into the kitchen and baked them. Recipe after recipe, minute after minute, hour after hour I stood in the kitchen baking and perfecting. I remember my mum tasting them and listening to me, with a smile, rave on and on about how I altered the recipes. From that day I continued baking and kept having my mum, family and later friends and neighbors sample my cookies. With time after one or 2 purchases I realized that I had been given another lifeline. My dream had been given another chance to live. I quickly registered my company Cookie Jar and continued with my dream. It wasn't easy at first. I was met with a lot of opposition and lacked support. I started with just N15,000 which honestly was all I really had. I remember the days of being on a cookie diet because I didn't want to bug my family for any pocket money or assistance. I did my very best never to doubt that my decision was the best. With every failure I had, I never gave up, I picked myself up and learnt from the mistake. I strived and fought every temptation I faced and just kept my sights on my dream. My dream that had now grown from just becoming a Chef to owning the largest bakery chain in the world. Some said I was crazy and that hunger will wake me up from this dream, but here I am now thanks to God, a loving Mother and wonderful and hardworking staff. My dreams have even grown more with the addition of inspiring people near and far to chase their dream no matter what. The company I started with just N15,000 is now worth an estimated N1 billion naira, hence the name the billionaire baker. The sky is no longer my limit, it's my stepping stone. No one says it's going to be easy but it's definitely going to be worth it. The road to success is filled with a lot of parking spaces and comfortable stops, but we owe it to ourselves to fulfill that dream because no matter where you are or where you are from your dreams will always be worth fighting and living for. So live everyday like it's your last, be an inspiration and a beacon and be sure to give everyone a Billion Reasons to Believe. Are you a reason to believe? | Oshiomhole replies Orubebe, says he's a clown & a perpetual failed Governorship aspirant Posted: 26 Aug 2015 08:13 AM PDT   "Our attention has been drawn to the latest outburst of one clown called Godsday Orubebe in his attempt to taint the image of the Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. It is no surprise that the former president, Goodluck Jonathan failed woefully because he surrounded himself with such charlatans as Godsday Orubebe, whose only credential is his ethnic origin and the large size of his bowler hat. tHere was a man whose un-ministerial conduct at the election nearly plunged the nation into an avoidable crisis Does Orubebe really think Nigerians are fools, does he truly believe Nigerians have forgotten so soon the ignoble role he played in his attempt to truncate the release of the election results and announcement of the eventual winner of that election, a move which could have plunged the nation into another civil war? Is it not a shame that Orubebe who should be cooling off his heel in jail for that failed plot to truncate democracy has now found a convoluted voice? We are not surprised at the timing of Orubebe's latest outburst. It is no doubt unconnected with the planned probe by President Muhammadu Buhari of the billions of naira allocated to the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, even as the East-West road remains in bad shape and the probe of the fleecing of amnesty funds under his watch. We are aware that Orubebe, the perpetual noise maker has raised the decibel of his noise a notch higher so that he would have a ready-made defence of witch-hunting if he is indicted in the planned probe of Amnesty funds. Orubebe is a yesterday's man. We could have chosen to ignore him like his Delta brother, Mr. Sunny Onuesoke, an unknown entity who doesn't know the arithmetics of financing, but decided to delve into a matter of a World Bank loan, something completely beyond his mental and intellectual capacity, but we simply can't let Orubebe have the last say. We are not unaware that it has now become the fad for drowning and neophyte politicians to take cheap shots at the impeccable character of the Comrade Governor just to gain cheap publicity. However, Orubebe's image, as he himself knows, is beyond redemption. Is it not laughable that Orubebe, the clown, accused Oshiomhole of biting the fingers that fed him? Pray, how did Jonathan feed Oshiomhole? Did he feed Oshiomhole by supervising over a government that fleeced the nation of trillions of naira, thereby denying Edo State her rightful share of funds for development? Or did he feed Oshiomhole by canvassing votes for him! Our candid advice is for Orubebe, a perpetual failed Governorship aspirant, to go to his family and apologise for the irreparable damage done to the family name with his infamous outburst beamed live to the whole world, before coming forward to confront Governor Adams Oshiomhole who is not in any way in the same class as him. It is no wonder that Nigeria was at a state of near collapse until President Muhammdu Buhari came on a rescue mission and rendered people like Orubebe irrelevant. Never again will characters like Orubebe take us on the path of Golgotha; never again will they hold sway in the affairs of Nigeria and ruin the collective aspiration of the people." |

| 45 year old man jailed 14 years for stealing N51million Posted: 26 Aug 2015 07:58 AM PDT  The presiding Magistrate, Frank Idiake, found Gbenga guilty on count two and seven out of the seven count charge and acquitted him on five other charges bothering on stealing 3,484 cartons of medium stout beer valued at N11, 877, 807m. He was sentenced to seven years imprisonment with hard labor each on count two and seven. The presiding judge ruled that the sentence was without option of fine and that the sentence is to run concurrently. |
