Photos: Dream beach holiday ends in tragedy as 7 students drown in the Indian Ocean

Tragedy struck on Wednesday afternoon August 12th when 7 students of St Martin Boys' Boarding Primary School in Kahuro, Murang'a County, Kenya drowned in the Indian Ocean while on school holiday. The students, aged between 13 and 15, met their deaths while swimming at the Pavilion Beach, Diani, in Kwale.

The students were on a tour of the Coast as they waited to sit their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exams in November.


Sources at the scene of the incident narrated how it all happened to news men.
 "Normally, there are trained divers who guide people swimming in sea, but the school's teacher said they had their own person who would guide the pupils,"
The students, according to them, had arrived at 1pm that fateful day and immediately hit the waters in windy weather. They were having a good time until the receding tides overwhelmed some of the swimmers. They called for help but it was too late and they were swallowed by the sea. It took divers more than six hours to retrieve the bodies due to poor coordination.

According to the Governor of Murang'a, Mwangi wa Iria, the bodies were airlifted by Kenya Airways to Nairobi yesterday. The burial expenses of the pupils would be covered by the government.
"The families will receive their loved ones from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and will be helped to take them to the nearest mortuaries since the pupils came from different areas," he said.

Waitress pays for her customers meal...then she opened Facebook hours later and almost fainted

This is one of those stories that restores your faith in humanity and teaches the importance of giving and being kind to others. Please read below...
Tim Young and Paul Hullings (pictured above) from New Jersey are hearty firefighters that live for their work. They once worked tirelessly for 12 hours to clear out a fire. After which, being completely exhausted, they went to a diner around 6 am to request the strongest cup of coffee the diner could muster.
Their waitress that day was Liz Woodward and she just happened to overhear the two firefighters discussing their tiresome battle. Eventually, when Tim and Paul went to pay, they were quite surprised. Instead of their bill, they were given this message.

As Tim and Paul read this message, their eyes fill up with tears. They thank the kind waitress for her warm gesture. Then Tim went on Facebook to recount the event : 
"Such a selfless and kind act. I definitely urge my friends to make a trip out and support the business, and if Liz happens to be your waitress, tip big.
But the story doesn't end there! The firefighter was told by someone on the Facebook post that Liz's father, Steve, is quadriplegic and has been paralyzed for 5 years and that Liz set up a donation page a few months earlier to fund a wheelchair accessible vehicle so that she can take her father places. 

Tim then urged people on Facebook and his colleagues to donate to Liz's crowd-fund : "Turns out, the young lady who gave us a free meal is really the one that could use the help…"

Then the unbelievable happened: within a few days, she had gathered more than $70,000 - far more than the $17,000 needed for a wheelchair accessible van! Liz and her family couldn't be more grateful to the two firemen. 
"All I did was pay for their breakfast. I didn't expect anything more than a smile," says the waitress "It goes to show that you just have to be kind to each other and that even the smallest gesture can change a life."

Deputy Governor of Borno state, Zannah Mustapha dies in Yola

The deputy governor of Borno State, Zannah Mustapha died in Yola, Adamawa state this morning during an official trip to the state. Mustapha, who had gone to Yola yesterday to attend the convocation ceremony at Moddibo Adama University, retired to his room last night and failed to wake up this morning. He'd died in his sleep at a government guest house in the state capital.

He was found unresponsive around 8am after his aides entered his room when they noticed he hadn't woken up for early morning prayers. He is believed to have died of cardiac arrest. Borno state governor has since confirmed his death to reporters. May his soul rest in peace, amen

Adamawa not using N200m for prayers against Boko Haram - Govt

There were reports yesterday that Adamawa State Government is planning to spend N200million to mobilize prayer warriors against Boko Haram. Reacting to the report, the government of the state said it's not true, that rather, the money is for 'strengthen existing community surveillance and intelligence gathering to check mate the operations of the insurgents.'
"One of the challenges inherited by the Government on assumption of office is the menace of Boko Haram insurgency. And as a serious and responsive government it deemed it fit to tackle it head on by evolving new security measures and sustaining the existing ones aimed at curbing the menace thereby enhancing security of lives and properties.
The correct position of the matter is that government had evolved a community mobilisation process intended to enhance peace and security in the state." - Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mathias Yohanna said (Vanguard)

Somebody mistakenly pays money into your account, why not return it? It's not your money, keeping it is tantamount to stealing. Anyway, actor Segun Arinze mistakenly paid money into someone's account and the guy has so far refused to return the money. Below is what Segun told LIB exclusively
"I mistakenly paid 50k into the account of one Okoli Chukwunon account number 0024438520 Access bank. When I realised my mistake I called my bank GT connect to report and I was asked to contact the bank of the beneficiary (Access bank) I went there and spoke with a lady staff Omolola (ogunlana branch) who was kind enough to contact the Nonso guy. He claimed he work with keystone bank mbaise branch. I identified myself and he asked that Access should send him a mail. Which they did.
Since then he's been giving me the run around. Yesterday he shouted at me and hung on me. His name Okoli Chukwunonso 08037376844. This not so much about the money but the idea of being honest. What is not yours please kindly return. I have heard of various incidences of this kind. People should learn to be honest and banks should find a way of penalizing such unscrupulous acts. Mr Okoli Chukwunonso kindly return my money. You claim to be a banker, so you should know better.

Online, who like many, were surprised he could afford the Ferrari he bought Kylie for her 18th birthday when he was owing his landlord rent money.
"OK, let's keep it real, shall we? When Tyga surprised Kylie Jenner with a Ferrari for her 18th birthday, a few thoughts quickly crossed our minds. Aside from what are we doing wrong that Kylie got a luxury car for her birthday and we can't even get a text back?, many people were shocked to know that the rapper is even ballin' like that.
Don't get us wrong, Tyga has a number of hits and is doing well with his music—but copping a $300,000 car for his lady?! Dang.

So just how much is the 25-year-old star worth? And what other lavish luxuries has he indulged in? We did some investigating...
It looks as though Tyga has a net worth between $5 and $8 million, with most of his income coming from his music, as you might have already guessed. More specifically though, Tyga's third album, Hotel California, which sold 54,000 units in its opening week.

Then, there's his icey jewelry collection that includes (but is not limited to): six gold watches, three King Tut pendant necklaces, one large King Tut diamond necklace, seven small pendant necklaces, three gold animal cuffs, two chain bracelets, one chain bracelet and one gold phone case.

And when it comes to his own wheels, Tyga is rollin' with some of the finest. The star's four-wheel collection includes a Mercedes SLS coupe (estimated at $221,580), Rolls Royce Phantom Coupe (estimated at $438,325), Mercedes G-wagon (estimated at $115,400), Mercedes SLS AMG (estimated at $221,580), Mercedes SLR McLaren (estimated at $452,750), Vintage Fogiato Impala and a Laborghini Aventador (estimated at $397,500).
