Azerbaijan photo journalist beaten to death for criticising footballer on Facebook

Rasim Aliyev, a 30-year-old photo and video journalist died from internal bleeding in Azerbaijan on Sunday morning August 9th after he was brutally attacked by relatives of a famous footballer on Saturday August 8th.

Rasim, in a Facebook post said that the football player, Javid Huseynov, should be banned from European football for making an obscene gesture at a referee.
"I do not want someone this amoral, impertinent and unable to control himself, represent me on European soccer fields" he wrote
According to reports, Aliyev was lured to a meeting by alleged relatives of the footballer where he was severely beaten up. He was helped by others who rushed him to hospital. He died the next day!



It wasn't the first time Mr Aliyev criticized Javid. He had previously accused him of being 'immoral and ill-bred' after he waved a Turkish flag during a Europa League match in Cyprus.

Javid who currently plays for the Azerbaijan Premier League side Gabala has been suspended by the club pending investigation.

In a statement, the club said: "Despite the fact that Huseynov is a very important player for the Gabala team, he has been suspended from the first team until this issue is clarified"

Javid Huseynov was arrested today August 11th along with three others.

Asikey is a singer, songwriter, and guitarist signed to Pendulum Records LTD. She's a final year student at University of Nigeria Nsukka, UNN and hails from Ogun State. Prior to getting signed to Pendulum Records ltd, she had independently released some singles such as "special song" and "time na money" which enjoyed some radio rotation in the East.

Drunk student emails his lecturer... gets brilliant reply!

If these letters are real, then it's brilliant. It was posted on on Reddit and has gone viral. Right is an email from US student, Patrick Davidson, which he wrote to his lecturer while he drunk, asking for an extension and apologizing to the teacher about his bald head. And right is the brilliant reply the drunk student got from his lecturer, who granted him an extension on the condition that he bring him a bottle of whatever Patrick had been drinking.

Faces of the 6 children killed by their mum's ex-husband

These are the 8 people who were killed by David Conley on Saturday night after he broke into their home in Houston. Conley's ex wife, Valerie Jackson had sent a text message to her mother pleading for help, telling her that she and her children were being held at gunpoint by Conley. All were bound and shot in the head execution style. One of those killed, was Conley's own 13yr old son. (read here)



The dead were identified as Jackson, her 50-year-old husband Dewayne Jackson; and their children Dewayne, Jr., 10; Honesty, 11; Caleb, 9; Trinity, 7; and Jonah, 6. Also killed was Conley's son Nathaniel, 13, from a prior relationship with Jackson.

Trial of Nigerian Treasury looters to commence soon - Buhari

President Buhari today said the trial of persons who have stolen national resources will begin in a matter of weeks. He said this at a meeting with members of the National Peace Committee led by Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar in the Presidential Villa.
"Those who have stolen the national wealth will be in court in a matter of weeks and Nigerians will know those who have short-changed them." he said
He added that things in Nigeria have degenrated "We have really degenerated as a country. Our national institutions, including the military, which did wonderfully on foreign missions in the past, have been compromised. But we are doing something about it.

The military is now retraining and morale has been resuscitated. As Petroleum Minister under Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo in the 1970s, I could not travel abroad until I had taken a memo to the Federal Executive Council asking for estacode. Now, everybody does what he wants. That is why security-wise and economically, we're in trouble," he said

CAN President Ayo Oritsejafor, former military leader Abdulsalam Abubakar and other members of the National Peace Committee for the 2015 General elections met with President Buhari at Aso Rock today August 11th. At the meeting, the group appealed to Pres. Buhari to be fair in his fight against corruption and ensure that due process is followed in the proposed probe of the last administration.

Speaking to state house correspondents after the meeting, Rev Kukah who was part of the delegation said
"It (the way corruption war is being fought) is not heating up the polity. In our conversation with President Jonathan and members of the parties, I don't think any Nigerian is in favour of corruption or is against the President's commitment to ensuring that we turn a new leaf. I think what we are concerned about is the process. It is no longer a military regime and under our existing laws, everybody is innocent until proven guilty. Again, our own commitment is not to intimidate or fight anybody, the former President's commitment and what he did still remains spectacular and I think that President Buhari himself appreciates that. So, our effort really is to make sure that the right thing is done."
