Teacher who ran a 'baby fight club' in her classroom, found guilty of child cruelty & convicted Posted: 16 Jan 2016 12:41 PM PST A daycare teacher who turned her classroom into what has been described as a "baby fight club", has been found guilty of child cruelty and could spend years in prison. Sarah Jordan was convicted on more than a dozen charges. In her classroom, she tripped children, stepped on their toes, encouraged them to fight each other and sprayed them in the face with a hose. She created a tense environment for the students and this has caused huge emotional damage to them. Prosecutor Ashleigh Landers said that the atmosphere she has created was "almost like a baby fight club" and Parents testified that their children suddenly became fearful of water and started acting in ways similar to the abuse described in the classroom, such as stepping on others' feet. The sadist of a teacher was making the students bully one another and this resulted in fights. After a trial, The judge convicted Jordan of 13 offences, including child cruelty and assault and battery. She has however denied the accusations, saying that she occasionally used the hose to sprinkle kids with water because the sprinkler attachment was broken but she never tried to hurt them. She will be sentenced in May. |

Senate replies Biksi Akande, says he has got it all wrong again Posted: 16 Jan 2016 12:31 PM PST The Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs has released a statement replying the former Chairman of APC over his statement about the senate and the missing 2016 budget. While speaking at an event in his home yesterday, Akanda said that the missing budget was an indication of the indiscipline that produced the leadership of the senate. The statement from the Senate after the cut... The Senate today (Saturday) responded to the statement by the former interim National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bisi Akande in which he described the claim that the 2016 budget was missing from the upper legislative chamber as an indication of the indiscipline that produced its leadership. The Senate said it was regrettable that a man of Akande's status would be responding to mere speculation without cross-checking his facts or worse still eager to latch on to any opportunity to bring to disrepute the leadership of the Senate because he failed to get his choice candidates elected. In a statement by its spokesman, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, the Senate urged Akande to check his records properly so that he could see that "at no time did the Senate say the 2016 budget was missing". Rather, Abdullahi noted that the legislative house had insisted in several official statements and press interviews by its principal officers that the budget was not missing but that two different versions are now available. "We have said it several times that the budget was not missing. That two versions of the details of the budget exist and this is no longer in doubt as the Presidency has equally admitted this. "We expect a man of Akande's calibre to cross-check his facts and take us up on our words. That he decided to ignore the facts and make comments on speculations is regrettable. He is a man who had served in government. He is a leader of the party with the majority in the Senate and he has several channels of cross-checking facts as against speculations.", Abdullahi stated. The spokesperson said contrary to the description of what happened as indiscipline on the part of the leadership, the position of the present Senate leadership is a demonstration of the regime of openness, transparency and accountability that now reigns in the upper legislative chamber. In the past, he said, such a development would have been swept under the carpet. He noted that the statements by Akande was another expression of the frustration that the former Governor of Osun State suffers for not being able to impose his lackeys on the Senate as leaders. "Chief Akande is still sulking after his group's failed attempt to impose certain individuals as the leaders of the Senate last year. So, he was in a hurry to condemn the leadership. We want him to know that the leadership of the Senate can only emerge through the provisions of the constitution and the standing rules of the institution. As a democrat, Akande should know that once the majority has elected the leadership, all parties to the contest ought to accept the decision. "To continue belly-aching and working to undermine the institution because of the failure to get one's choice candidates elected cast doubts on his democratic credentials. It appears he is only a democrat when he has his way. We advise him to move on and let us help the legislative institution to focus on its agenda to serve the people in line with the much needed change that President Muhammadu Buhari promised the nation..", Abdullahi stated. Photo: 9 year old girl raped to death in Rivers state Posted: 16 Jan 2016 12:06 PM PST A 9 year old girl simply identified as Miracle was allegedly raped to death by unidentified persons at the Elele Roundabout in Elele Community of Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State on Wednesday January 13th. Photo above shows women in the community weeping over the incident. According to PM News, the little girl was on an errand to buy food-stuff for her mother when she was abducted and raped, leading to her death. After waiting for hours for her to return with the foodstuff, Miracle's mother raised an alarm and a search party was launched. Her body was lfound the next morning January 14th within the vicinity of her family house. A family source said that they woke up the next morning Thursday, January 14th to behold the lifeless body of Miracle with blood all over her nose, mouth and private part. It is believed that some cult members might have carried out the dastard act as investigations by the residents and family members later showed that the elder brother to the deceased was a cultist and has been in the custody of the Rivers state Special Anti-Robbery Squad since last December 2015 over cult related issues. There are insinuations that her death may be connected to a revenge by a rival cult group. The Rivers Police Command has not made any statement regarding the incident. |
Missing budget signifies indiscipline in Senate – Bis Akande Posted: 16 Jan 2016 12:00 PM PST Former National Chairman of the APC, Bisi Akande says report of the missing 2016 budget from the Senate is a reflection of the indiscipline that produced the current leadership of the Senate. Akande stated this while speaking at his residence at a ceremony leading to his 77th birthday on January 23rd. "Nigeria's budget is a huge document and one wonders how such document of that size could be missing in the senate. The development is fallout of indiscipline that brought the current leadership of the Senate into the position and as you know, that was not the choice of our party" he said |

Buhari will not know peace if Niger Delta knows no peace - Tompolo Posted: 16 Jan 2016 11:57 AM PST In a statement which he released yesterday January 15th, embattled former Niger Delta militant, Government Ekpemupolo aka Tompolo said that President Buhari will know no peace if the Niger Delta region does not know peace. He said this while distancing himself from the recent incidents of pipelines being blown up in Delta state. Many believe the militants are protesting the court order granted by an Abuja judge for his arrest. "Well, I am sure this is what President Buhari is looking for. He should allow the people of the Niger Delta Region to know peace, otherwise he will not know peace as well," Tompolo said in the last paragraph of his statement issued by Paul Bebenimibo, his media aide. |

Indian boy cheats death after being impaled by four foot steel rod (graphic) Posted: 16 Jan 2016 06:26 AM PST For 10-year-old Aman Vishwakarma from Uttar Pradesh, India, his terrifying brush with death could be described as nothing less than a miracle. The youngster cheated death when he fell off 12ft off a roof and got impaled by a 4ft metal rod. The rod entered his body at the thigh and exited through the back. Incredibly, it missed all vital organs and only grazed his spine. The pics might be a bit graphic for some so viewer discretion advised as you continue... Doctors worked for four hours to remove the rod without causing permanent damage. It had torn a major blood vessel, pierced his bowel and diaphram, grazed his spine and possibly ruptured his lungs - causing two litres of blood to build up in his abdomen. Recalling his death-defying fall, Aman told of how he was laying mud onto the roof of his family home when the structure collapsed. He screamed in agony as he fell on the exposed spike which was fixed to a concrete block – as neighbours rushed to help him to the nearby Narayan Swaroop Hospital. His mother Kamla Devi, 30, collapsed when she saw him lying on the ground with the spike protruding from his body. Kamla said: 'They took me to the hospital to see my son. I had completely given up on his chances of survival. So I couldn't believe when the doctor told me he was alive.' She added: 'It's a miracle. It's no exaggeration to compare the doctors with gods. If not gods, they are god-sent to us.' It took a team of six hospital staff to remove the rod from the small boy without permanently damaging major blood vessels and organs. Dr Rajeev Singh, the 'hero' surgeon who operated on Aman, said he believed before the operation that saving him was 'practically impossible'. 'His condition was very critical,' Dr Singh said. 'His blood pressure was zero. If the patient was not operated within hours of accident, he could collapsed.' Aman, who now uses a colostomy bag, has not been able play his beloved cricket or go to school since the accident in October. According to a British doctor, the boy had been 'millimetres' from death – and now faces a lifetime of medical complications. Dr Arun Ghosh said: 'I think it's pure luck that he survived. 'Obviously the doctor's did an excellent job but most of the time, when people are impaled, they will die instantly or soon after from bleeding. It would have taken major and complex surgery to save him. You'd have needed a vascular surgeon, a respiratory surgeon, a neurosurgeon, and they would have to be at the top of their game. 'I'm not sure we would be able to get such a major trauma team together on such short notice. 'The spinal damage could mean he suffers from erectile dysfunction, pins and needles in his hands and feet, a lack of coordination and possibly even loss of bladder function. 'Spinal damage - very close to the areas to the top of his spine - could cause feeling, erectile dysfunction, again bladder function, pins and needles in the hands and feet, lack of coordination. 'Because it entered near his anus, he's definitely not going to be able to go to the toilet normally for a very long time, and he'll probably need a colostomy bag to pee. 'Walking is going to be a problem in the short term and because of his damage lungs, he never going to be able to run a marathon. 'He will have some life long problems but really, he survived something he should have died from.' |
