President Buhari today met with the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki Moon, on the sidelines of the World Future Energy Summit currently holding in Abu Dhabi. In a statement released by the Senior Special Assistant to Buhari on Media and Publicity, Shehu Garba, president Buhari said that in collaboration with the Multinational Joint Task Force, the Nigerian Armed Forces have driven the terrorist group from Nigerian territory into "fall-back positions".


"They are currently not holding any territory today as we speak, " he told Mr. Ban Ki Moon. He also told the United Nations Secretary-General that Nigeria will persistently pursue global action to reverse the drying up of Lake Chad and save the lives of those who depend on it for survival.

"With all due respect to our neighbours, Nigeria has been worst hit by the drying up of the Lake Chad and we are hoping that the global community will support the process of halting the drying up of the lake, " President Buhari said.

Meek Mill should have heeded his own advise as 50 Cent comes for him again

15 former governors, others stole N1.34 trillion in six years - Lai Mohammed

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has alleged that some former governors, ministers, businessmen, public servants and bankers stole over N1.34 trillion between 2006 and 2013 in the country. He made the allegation while speaking at a news conference in Abuja today Jan. 18th.
"Out of the stolen funds, 15 former Governors allegedly stole 146.84 billion naira; 4 former Ministers allegedly stole 7 billion naira; 12 former Public Servants, both at federal and state levels, allegedly stole over 14 billion Naira; 8 people in the Banking Industry allegedly stole 524 billion naira; while 11 businessmen allegedly stole 653 billion naira.
Using World Bank Rates and Costs, one third of the stolen funds could have provided 635.18 kilometres of road; built 36 ultra modern hospitals, that is one ultra modern hospital per state; built 183 schools; educated 3,974 children from primary to tertiary level at 25.24 million per child; and built 20,062 units of 2-bedroom houses. This is the money that a few people, just 55 in number, allegedly stole within a period of just eight years. And instead of a national outrage, all we hear are these nonsensical statements that the Government is fighting only the opposition, or that the government is engaging in vendetta," he said.

Woman finds massive rat in her toilet

When Susanne Eliasson, 53, heard loud splashing sounds coming from the toilet of her apartment in Sweden, she reckoned it was something live, but that did little to prepare her for what she found. She lifted the lid to the sight of one very unwelcome visitor splashing around, a rat.

Horrified, she tried flushing it back down the way it had come but this was one determined guest and it was going nowhere. She had to pick it out of the toilet using a cloth, put it in a bucket and send it on its way out the window.



Ms Eliasson described the moment she heard the rodent splashing around in her toilet in the southern city of Gothenburg at around midnight.

She said she quickly realised the noise must be coming from 'something alive', but had to go through the nerve-wracking task of lifting up the lid to see what it was.
"I guessed it must be a snake or a rat, and when I spotted it I knew I had to take a picture, otherwise no one would have believed me," she said.

"I was a bit freaked out about the fact it was trying desperately to scramble into my bathroom."
According to local apartment manager Henrik Mortensen, rats in Gothenburg have recently become a big problem.
"It's not unusual for them to get into the pipes, but it's really unusual for them to come up through the toilet," Mr Mortensen said.

He added that the recent cold weather has driven the rodents underground into sewers.
Rats can swim for three days and are able to hold their breath underwater for up to three minutes.
Sewer systems can be food-heaven for the rodents because a large amount of food, is flushed down the toilet.

If they get desperate, human faeces can contain undigested food that the rats can feast on in a process known as coprophagy.

Just saw this touching post on Facebook. 10-year-old Amira died yesterday after battling with leukemia. The fifth grader had spent the last five to six months at the hospital. Her heartbroken mother, Theresa Evans took to her Facebook page to announce the sad news. May her soul rest in peace, Amen. See more photos after the cut...

Video shows nursery school teacher working as a prostitute (photos)

Katya Gorlova, 22, a nursery school teacher who also goes by the name of Anastasia Monpasye, was caught on camera performing sex acts in exchange for money. In a video which appears to have been recorded without her knowledge, she is seen dressed in just her underwear, she accepts £30 from a young man before proceeding to get intimate with him.



During conversation she told the man her real job involved teaching, singing and dancing to young children at a school, it has been claimed. She also disclosed her part-time job as a prostitute does not interfere with her nursery school job.


She now faces an enquiry, but it is not clear whether or not the woman will keep her job. She went on to claim she does not provide "intimate services" on a regular basis and, besides that she is free to do "whatever I want" as she is single.


In the past she had reportedly worked as a go-go dancer, performing in various nightclubs and has a dating websites profile that focuses on "intimate services". She says she plans to sue the man who leaked the tape. It is believed to have been shot in Kaliningrad, western Russia.

Our attention has been drawn to a report circulating in a section of the media, suggesting that our son and spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa Metuh made some public comments regarding his on-going case with the EFCC.
We are indeed shocked by this report as Chief Metuh, being a seasoned lawyer of many years standing, had following his appearance in court not only refrained from making public comments but had also directly barred his family and aides from making public comments on the matter since it is now in court.

This family therefore pleads that issues concerning Chief Metuh and the case with the EFCC should not in any way be sensationalized in the media, especially as it is now before a court of competent jurisdiction.

Soldiers of the 144 Battalion of the Nigerian Army reportedly opened fire on members of the Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB) during a protest in Aba, Abia State today January 18th, killing an unidentified member of the group. Local markets, schools and Banks have closed down following the violent clash between IPOB members and security officers. First case of Lassa fever recorded in Ekiti

The first case of Lassa fever has been reported in Ekiti state. The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Olurotimi Ojo, who made this known to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti today January 18th, said the index case which involves a student nurse was confirmed over the weekend.
 "Over the weekend, the state confirmed a case of Lassa fever that is being managed at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido Ekiti.
The patient is stable and had commenced treatment. Immediately the patient was diagnosed and confirmed, the management began the process of contact tracing. Once you have an index case, there is tendency of having a primary case and possible spread and this could be dangerous. The doctors are handling the situation and monitoring the situation very closely. So, nobody has been quarantined after the contact tracing."he said Lassa Fever is transmitted by infected rodents. Over 40 persons have died from the hemorrhagic fever since its outbreak in Nigeria last November.

6,000 patients to benefit from MTNF Foundation, Akwa Ibom State free eye surgery programme

6,000 patients will benefit from the ongoing free eye surgery programme organised by the MTN Foundation in partnership with Akwa Ibom State Government and the Eye Foundation. The initiative is happening under the MTN Foundation Eyesight Restoration Intervention Scheme (MTNF EyeRIS). 

 
 Through this initiative that commenced on January 11 and will end January 30, 2016, there will be 2,000 cataract surgeries, distribution of 2,000 pairs of glasses and 2,000 drug packs to people with various eye problems for free.  

The opening ceremony of the event held at the state capital, Uyo, had in attendance the deputy governor of the state, Mr. Moses Ekpo; Wife of the State Governor, Mrs. Martha Edom Emmanuel; Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dominic Ukpong; MTN Foundation Executive Secretary, Ms. Nonny Ugboma; Chief Enterprise Solution Officer, MTN Nigeria, Mr. Frederick Udoaka; Company Secretary, MTN Nigeria, Mrs. Uto Ukpanah and Dr. Onyesse Obinna of Eye Foundation.

The MTNF EyeRIS is aimed at curbing preventable blindness in Nigeria by conducting free cataract surgeries and providing free reading glasses and drug packs to Nigerians.

In phase 1, in partnership with respective State Governments, more than 34,000 patients in 6 States (Abia. Delta, Jigawa, Niger, Osun, & Sokoto) benefitted from the project, made up of 10,610 cataract operations and distribution of 11,946 pairs of glasses and 11,808 drug packs.

In phase 2, Akwa-Ibom, Ekiti, Kwara, Imo, Ogun, and Ondo States have been selected for the project. Working with the various State Governments, the intervention has been successfully completed in Ogun, Imo, Ondo and Kwara States where 7,158 cataract surgeries were performed, 8,000 pairs of glasses and 8,000 drug packs distributed.

Child actor, Olamide David, dies at 14

Olamide David, a Nollywood child actor has died. A family source told LIB that the 2015 best Kid Actor at BON Awards was playing football with his friends yesterday Sunday January 17th when he was mistakenly kicked in the stomach by another player. He fell to the ground and complained of pains. They rushed him to General Hospital, Ikeja where he died a few hours later in the early hours of today Jan. 18th. He was just 14 years old. So sad! May his soul rest in peace, Amen.
