| Photo: First-ever surrogate baby in Vietnam born today... Posted: 22 Jan 2016 12:30 PM PST  The baby girl, weighing 3.6kg, was born by C-section, performed by Deputy Minister of Health, Professor and Doctor Nguyen Viet Tien (pictured carrying the newborn baby today) when the surrogate mother was 38 weeks pregnant. "We had been waiting for this moment for ages and this made us burst with happiness," Nguyen Thi Ha, the real mother of the newborn, was quoted by newswire VnExpress as saying. Ha and her husband have been married for 18 years and she was diagnosed infertile three years into their marriage. In March 2015, Vietnam legalized surrogate pregnancy as it revised the Law on Marriage and Family, and the couple, based in the northern province of Ha Nam, would never miss such a precious chance. They filed a surrogacy request at the National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Hanoi, and eventually received the go-ahead to have one of her aunts to be the surrogate mother for the baby they longed to have. The birth of the very first surrogate baby in Vietnam is a significant milestone for families who cannot have natural or IVF children, Deputy Minister Tien told the media after the C-section surgery. Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien is also expected to visit the newborn baby later today. There are some 100 surrogacy requests eligible for approval in Vietnam, and nearly 30 surrogate babies are expected to enter the world in the next three months, according to VnExpress. |

| Nigeria's Anita Asianya dominates at the International World Miss University pageant in China Posted: 22 Jan 2016 11:21 AM PST   Reigning World Miss University Nigeria (WMUN) 2015, Miss Anita Asianya, a Final year, Industrial Chemistry student of The University of Benin is currently in China to represent Nigeria at the International World Miss University Contest which will hold on the 27th, of January 2016 at Xiamen international Conference Center, Beijing, China.  The World Miss University contest is an international beauty contest held annually in since 1986, with an average of about 70 contestants from all over the World. The contest, a celebration of beauty and intellect, strives to spread the message of love and peace all over the world by annually appointing a public service delegation among outstanding female university students. | War of the words between Adam Baldwin and Don Cheadle Posted: 22 Jan 2016 10:10 AM PST  It all started with a joke from Don Cheadle who wrote...          Cheadle stopped replying after that. It may also be interesting to note that between the two actors, Cheadle is the only one who has ever been nominated for an Oscar. In addition, IMDB notes that Cheadle has 36 nominations and 8 wins from other groups that by definition exclude white actors. |

"We just wanted to reference a point in time," Laura McBride, 40, told ABC News. "Christopher would be 22, Tyler would be almost 18 and Kieran Shane would be just over one-year-old." "When you lose a child early at birth, it's uncomfortable and people don't talk about it and women just live with it, so it's nice to have this tangible memory," McBride said.  "I saw it and thought, 'Oh my goodness," McBride said. "I knew Brandy was in Georgia and I didn't know how that would work but something compelled me to call." "I told her we live in Texas and she said she was going to be in Texas over Thanksgiving," she continued. "She was going to be in Killeen which is only an hour away. We knew that was divine intervention."McBride wanted to surprise her husband for Christmas so she told him that it was a family photo shoot that included their in-laws and nieces and nephews. Angel asked to take a shot of just the couple together and then, after the photo shoot, got to work adding in the images of their children. Angel worked on the photo with Heather Pinheiro, a New Jersey-based web designer who donates her time. "We went back and forth with ideas on how to accomplish what Laura wanted," Angel said. "What Heather created was so stunning I was speechless."McBride says her husband was equally stunned on Christmas morning when he unwrapped the photo. "He cried," McBride said, tearing up herself. | Photos: Lagos State Police Command parades 36 suspected criminals Posted: 22 Jan 2016 08:19 AM PST  36 crime suspects, among them a pastor, who were arrested for various criminal activities in Lagos State were paraded by the police on Friday, January 22. Pastor Titus Onwuchekwa of the Presbyterian Church, Umuahia in Abia State and Osas Felix from Edo State specialized in buying stolen vehicles from robbers and selling to unsuspecting people.  According to the statement made by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, an unregistered Toyota 4 Runner SUV, Toyota Camry with registration number AAA 391 AA, Toyota Camry with number FKJ 441 DV, Lexus Rx30 with number LSR 520 RF, Toyota Highlander SUV with number LSR 492 DX and Mitsubishi Pajero SUV with number SMK 484 DS were recovered from the suspects. Twelve guns, six axes and four cutlasses were recovered from the suspected cultists. Some of the suspects confessed to having been involved in kidnapping, fraud, motorcycle robbery among others.  The CP noted that the rate of crime and other criminal activities was gradually declining in the state, a success he attributed to human capacity of the force and the quantum of logistics and moral support given to the Command by the State government. He disclosed to newsmen that the police were able to achieve these within two weeks, between 7 January to 21 January, 2016. |

They reminded me — and the rest of America — that I appeared on a show called The Game, which appeared on BET. Well, here's the thing. Thank you for reminding me, since most people have never heard of that show. Why? It's on BET. Quick. Name the top shows on BET. Drawing a blank? I think I've made my point. I'm thankful for all of the acting jobs I've had. But I look forward to the day when people don't self-segregate based on skin color, while loudly complaining about a segregated society... BET lies to American black people by telling them that the rest of America is racist, so stick close to your own kind. Anything that promotes segregation is bad! And they're absolutely mortified that someone like me — an independent-thinking black woman — dares call their bluff. That might be hard for the people at BET to understand, especially after I read this quote from a BET exec about the Oscars: "It would be great if the Oscar nominees represented even closely the percentage of moviegoers who are of different ethnicities, but they don't," said Stephen Hill. Wow. Apparently, Mr. Hill doesn't understand what an Oscar is. Oscars are awarded to the actors and actresses who excel… not the audience. What's next? Awarding $1 million to the guy sitting in his pajamas on the couch watching Survivor? Giving a blue ribbon to the kid who stayed home from field day? Giving a Nobel Peace Prize to a President who escalated wars in Iraq and Afghanistan? No, that would be unreasonable. My problem goes back to the notion that every area of life needs to break down exactly according to demographic ratios except in those areas in which black people have decided they want to have their own space. I don't have a problem with black people having their own space. I have a problem with the folks at BET absolutely freaking out when other institutions don't match up to what they think is best. At National Review, they put it this way: From their undisputed cultural heights, progressives have sold the American people on a fantasy that says America is racist unless every demographic group enjoys the benefits of its life and shares its burdens in exact proportion to their numbers — except, of course, when it comes to areas of the culture dominated by African-Americans. |

The girls are said to be doing well but their family need money for their medication and surgical operation to separate them. The children are at UNTH, Enugu.
