Photo: Nigerian serial rapist jailed for 24 years in UK

Posted: 21 Jan 2016 12:54 PM PST

22-year-old Oluwadamilare Baiyewu pictured above has been sentenced to 24 years imprisonment by a Woolwich Crown Court in the UK for raping a 17 year old girl while trying to attack another on December 2nd last year. Described as a 'dangerous, calculating and predatory rapist' who created the image he was the 'pillar of the community' by helping out at the church.

Baiyewu who resides in Fairlawn in Greenwich, first grabbed a 17-year-old girl at knife point on December 2nd, but she managed to break free and escaped.

A week later, in the same area of Binsey Walk, Thamesmead, he grabbed another victim, also 17, as she got off the bus at 7pm. He put a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her before marching her into a bin storage area under a walkway. He then raped her in a secluded area. He was tracked down after DNA on the semen found on the young lady was linked to him. He was arrested on December 16, and was placed on an identity parade where he was picked out by the victim whom he had attempted to rape.‎

He will serve a minimum of 16 years in prison and will then be on license for eight years .

Detective Constable Chris Hammond of the Sexual Offences,Exploitation and Child Abuse Command while speaking on his conviction said:
'Oluwadamilare Baiyewu is a dangerous, calculating, predatory rapist. He volunteered at a local church, creating the image that he was a pillar of the community, which I believe was an attempt to mask his true nature as a sexual predator. I would like to praise his victims for having the strength to come forward to police and give their evidence in court. The streets of Thamesmead are now a safer place without the presence of Baiyewu. Despite the overwhelming evidence against him, Baiyewu refused to accept his guilt. He manipulated thelegal system to cause two trials to be adjourned which caused both victims further distress. I would like to thank the two victims in this case who maintained their commitment to the prosecution despite Baiyewu's deliberate attempts to prolong proceedings. Thankfully their will to see Baiyewu pay for his crimes enabled the trial to proceed at the third attempt and Baiyewu was rightly convictedof all charges.".

See the reaction of gay men when they touch a vagina for the first time

Posted: 21 Jan 2016 12:49 PM PST

Four gay men have been filmed getting to grips with the nether region of a female for the first time. In the clip, Stevie Boebi, a lesbian, is seen sitting on an examination table positioned in front of the men, she invites them to "play" with her vagina and their reactions are as awkward as you can imagine. When she slides off her underwear, it has a significant effect on the men.

Clearly apprehensive, one of the four shrieks with terror, admitting he "fears" falling into the vagina or even losing a finger in her nether region.

But when they eventually begin touching Stevie, the scenes are truly outrageous.
The young American woman's vagina is compared to everything from a "furry Star Trek alien" to a "closet door with some curtains poking out."
One man says: "It's like a partially deflated balloon," before enquiring: "Can you keep snacks down here?"

And then comes the real challenge.
The gay men are tasked with locating Stevie's clitoris - and it's equally as awkward.
Filmed by YouTube filmmakers Bria and Chrissy - a singing duo - the video has gone viral, clocking up 3.4 million views since it was uploaded
It comes after another of their videos - featuring lesbians touching a penis for the first time - also went viral.
They say they use music and humour to entertain, share and promote equality.
Explaining why they made the latest video, the pair said: "Men are allowed more sexual freedom than women.
"In our society, when a man has sex he's 'the man' a woman has sex she's a slut.
"We expected a lot of backlash for this video, it will be interesting to see if this video gets the same attention as the 'lesbians touch penis' video since there are female genitals (and a topic about females as a whole) instead of a male genitals."
Stevie said she loved taking part in the project.
Writing under the clip, she said: "I am so so so honored to be a part of this video."

APC will not be in power forever- PDP governors say

Posted: 21 Jan 2016 12:46 PM PST

PDP governors have asked the security and antigraft agents to be mindful of how they carry out instructions from the APC-led government as they will not be in power forever. In a statement sent of today by their coordinator Osaro Onaiwu, the governors from the main opposition party, condemned the handcuffing of its National Publicity Secretary Olisa Metuh to the Federal High Court yesterday and today. The statement in reads in part;

"The only reasonable conclusion we have reached is that the anti-corruption agencies and other institutions of state have allowed themselves to be dictated to by a single vindictive authority which takes pleasure in using power anyhow and in anyway in gross abuse of the constitution. Security and anti-graft agencies should be mindful of how they take instructions from political office holders as the tide of power was constantly moving, as the APC will not be in power forever. The cuffing of the national publicity secretary of the PDP exemplifies a terrible decay of power by the APC regime which sees itself bigger than the democratic state, Nigeria, which brought it to power. For the avoidance of doubt, the Forum is not against the anti-corruption mantra of the present regime of President Buhari, but we insist it must be within the ambit of our constitution and appropriate laws. Any other means is a descent into fascism with its attendant consequences in the long run.".

Former African footballer of the year, Perpetua Nkwocha now coaching a team of migrants in Sweden

Posted: 21 Jan 2016 12:14 PM PST

Nigerian football star Perpetual Nkwocha knows what it's like to find yourself many miles from home, making a new life, BBC reports.

Her playing career took her from Nigeria to China and then to Sweden - where she has been based in the northern town of Skelleftea for more than seven years. Now the multiple African champion and African Women's Footballer of the Year is helping others who have made a very different journey, to the same destination.
She is player-coach for a local team, but much of her spare time this winter is being taken up coaching a group of Afghan teenagers, some of the hundreds of young migrants who have arrived in the town in recent months.

"I feel that it's similar - which is why I have to try to make them happy, because I know where they came from," she told the BBC.
"I feel so glad that I connected with them and we started this project together.
"We try to make them feel welcome, try to make them feel happy, try to make them get friends and associate with other Swedish people"

The project, which has only been running since November, was set up by her club, Clemensnas IF, in co-operation with the local football association and the Swedish church.

"It is really a way of giving these immigrants and refugees something to do during the day," said Jens Karlsson, the chairman of Clemensnas.
"If they love soccer they can come here and practise with Perpetua, who is a great soccer player - so that's the purpose of the whole thing, to help in the immigration of these guys."

The enthusiasm of the youngsters, many of whom travelled alone from Afghanistan, is plain to see as they get stuck in to their drills - under the watchful eye of their illustrious trainer. It is far from clear if the boys are aware of the stature and achievements of the player who is putting them through their paces.

But if they can't list Nkwocha's titles and trophies, they certainly recognise her qualities, even if at the start some were apparently surprised to be coached by a woman. Now there are no such doubts.

"She's a good coach, we're all happy," Habibullah told the BBC - before excitedly outlining plans for a team being put together once the group has settled in.

Migration is as controversial an issue in Sweden as it is elsewhere across Europe - but the local authorities in Skelleftea, who support the Clemensnas project, are adamant that they need people to come to the town, and make their life there

"We have a problem with people moving away - down into the big towns in the south," local councillor Daniel Adin told us.
"For many of our smaller towns and villages, they see this as a way to keep the countryside alive."
And he is a keen supporter of using the football scheme to try to bring the new arrivals into society.
"We have seen that sport is a really simple way of creating these meetings between people, because you don't have to know the language - you can meet and have a natural way of communicating and meeting."

Nwocha says she enjoys her life in Skelleftea, people are friendly - it is just the cold that is difficult.

"You cannot get used to this weather. There is no fashion in winter," she says, adding that layers are imperative.
She has a busy life, attending classes to improve her Swedish - as well as the teenage-coaching project. Her main role will be to lead Clemensnas to success once the season gets going again in May. But the so-called "Football for All" scheme is close to her heart - and she is putting just as much effort into that at the moment.

"I feel so great being with these lovely children here. I feel like I'm home, you know - just like when I train my boys back home in Nigeria - I feel the same way here."

Read heartbreaking suicide note bullied 11-year-old left his parents

Posted: 21 Jan 2016 12:14 PM PST

Diego Gonzalez was having a hard time with the bullies in school and just couldn't take anymore. Before jumping off the fifth floor of the family home, he wrote his parents a heartbreaking note which he left beside a teddy bear he has owned since birth.  The incident happened October 14th last year after Diego complained that he was having trouble at school and was unhappy but his parents only just made the letter public in a bid to persuade authorities in Villaverde, Madrid, to launch a full investigation into his death.

His letter read:
"Daddy, Mummy…I hope that one day you will be able to hate me a little less. I can't stand going to school and there is no other way to avoid it.
"Dad, you taught me to be a good person and to keep promises…Mum, you have taken care of me very well and shown me a lot of places…Grandpa, you have always been very generous to me and have looked out for me.
"Tata, you have put up with a lot from me.
"I miss you and I hope one day we can meet again in heaven. Well, I say goodbye forever."
He was a pupil at Nuestra Senora de Los Angeles School in Madrid and now his parents want answers from the local authority.

Diego's father, Manuel Gonzalez, said: "In this school strange things are happening and, at least, must be investigated."

Despite Diego's letter and several other complaints from parents at the school, police 'ruled out' his death was due to a case of bullying, according to the El Mundo.

His mother, Carmen Gonzalez, remembered the horrifying moment she found her son.
She said: "I heard that he had moved from the room. I looked and saw the shoes on the floor.
"I got into the [other] room, looked wildly around the house to find him and saw towards the back of the kitchen, the open window, I went and looked. I saw his shadow on the floor."

Fayose denies owning property in Dubai...

Posted: 21 Jan 2016 11:58 AM PST

Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose has denied owning property in Lagos following reports from Sahara Reporters this morning, that he was one of politicians/government workers with property in the UAE. See his response after the cut...

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has declared that he does not have any house in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), challenging anyone with information of any property linked to him in Dubai to publish the details. The governor, who also said he was ready to waive his immunity to be prosecuted if any house is linked to him in Dubai, added that he was not a kind of person that will deny his assets.

Speaking through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said it was painful that the people who seized power in Nigeria through falsehood and propaganda were still lying eight months after assuming office.

He said; "I'm not among those lily livered Nigerians that will deny their assets anywhere. "They are in the federal government and they should have access to all information both in Nigeria and abroad. I therefore challenge them to check books on owners of all properties in Dubai. "If they trace any house to me in Dubai, the federal government should make public all the details including pictures, location and title documents. "The government should also confiscate such property and I am ready to waive my immunity to be prosecuted."

The governor also reiterated his commitment to speaking the truth at all times, not minding whose ox is gorred, adding that; "No amount of their falsehood and propaganda can silence me." He said; "They have taken their propaganda to the most ridiculous height and it is shameful that after taking over Nigeria by falsehood, they are still lying to deceive Nigerians just to cover up their lack of solution to the country's economic problems."

Will Smith Finally Speaks on boycotting the Oscars

Posted: 21 Jan 2016 09:22 AM PST

The 47 year old actor broke his silence as he poured out his heart in an interview with Robin Roberts on Good Morning America. He revealed his wife Jada did not consult him before releasing video calling for boycott of the Oscars, but admitted she may have been motivated by his Oscar snub and that either ways she would still have made the video.

The Actor has joined his wife Jada Pinkett, Spike Lee, Lupita Nyong'o, David Oyelowo, and George Clooney, among many others in calling out the Academy Awards for its all-white slate of acting nominees.  In the interview he said:
"My wife's not going. It would be awkward for me to show up with Charlize Theron. No, we've discussed it and we're a part of this community, but at this current time, we're uncomfortable to stand there and say this is okay"
"I think diversity is the American superpower. That's why we're great. So many different people from so many different places adding their ideas, their inspiration and influences to this beautiful American gumbo, For me, at it's best, Hollywood represents and then creates the imagery for that beauty. But for my part, I think I have to protect and fight for the ideals that make our country and Hollywood community great. So when I look at the series of nominations from the Academy, it's not reflecting that beauty."
Smith said that while Hollywood has historically been a progressive community, it needed to "get out front" of the diversity issues facing the industry.
"There's a disharmony that's brewing in our country and in our industry – I want no parts of that," he said. "This is a marriage. I look at it as this sort of big, giant, multi-interracial marriage. Sometimes dysfunctional. But the marriage is in a space where divorce is not an option. We're all in this together. We have to figure it out. We have to make it right."
"The nominations reflect the Academy, the Academy reflects the industry; reflects Hollywood. The industry reflects America. It reflects a series of challenges we're having in our country at the moment. . That's not the industry, that's not the America I want to leave behind. There was a regressive slide towards separatism, towards racial and religious disharmony, and that's not the Hollywood that I want to leave behind"
Will Smith has been nominated for two Oscars in the past, and both times he lost to other black actors: Denzel Washington for Training Day and Forest Whitaker for The Last King of Scotland.

God has a hand in Nigeria’s current economic predicament- Oyegun

Posted: 21 Jan 2016 07:49 AM PST

National Chairman of APC, John Oyegun, says God has a hand in Nigeria's current economic challenges. He said this while speaking to a 15-member delegation of an APC support group, Change Agents Foundation (CAF) in Abuja yesterday January 20th.
"I think God has a hand in the current economic predicament of the country. Imagine the sudden fall in the price of crude oil, the mainstay of the Nigerian economy, from its heights in 2014, averaging $112 per barrel down to the current price of $28 per barrel – lower than the $38 per barrel which the proposed 2016 budget is predicated on. It is an object lesson for us. It tells us that we must embrace radical change in our economic model," he said.
