| Music stars go in search of their look-alikes as #MTNCelebdouble begins selection Posted: 20 Mar 2014 09:52 AM PDT  MTN Ambassadors are generating excitement among the youth, especially the followers of the entertainment industry, as the likes of Wizkid, Davido, Iyanya, Kcee, Don Jazzy, Praiz, Tiwa Savage, Chidinma, iMike and Harrysong go in search of their look-alikes. Supported by the largest ICT company in Africa, the initiative will give the over 70,000,000 youth population an opportunity to share the spotlight with some of the finest musical superstars in the country. In addition, a VIP treat and invitations to exclusive youth parties, with the celebrities in attendance, are already in place for the look-alikes and fans. Continue...  Speaking with one of the artistes, Iyanya Mbuk, he said "the objective of this youth-centric, entertaining initiative is to connect the teeming youth population, who cherish stardom and have been supportive, with their favourite artistes as well as help fans in general bond with the music industry in Nigeria". The "Kukere" master further mentioned that the selection, which has already begun, is taking place on MTN Twitter handle, Facebook page and Instagram account because the company has the largest subscriber base and technology that will make the process smoother and effective. He therefore urged interested youths to be part of this laudable project by tagging their pictures with their look-alike artiste names and follow each entry with hashtag #MTNCelebdouble. More so, the Project Fame winner mentioned that the procedure includes subscription for any of the artistes Callertunez.  In a bid to generate more excitement, the artistes have decided that the top two most look-alikes, for each of the artistes, will be selected for an all-expenses paid VIP day with the full perks of being a star at an exclusive location before a once-in-a-lifetime party at three clubs spread across the western and eastern regions of Nigeria. Information gathered further reveals that the parties which will take place on the same day will have an even spread of the superstars and their look-alikes.  In a separate interview, another artiste, Don Jazzy reiterated that the initiative is one of several ways he and the other superstars plan to reward the teeming Nigerian youth for their passion and consistency in supporting the indigenous music industry. |
| Pic: Police officer knocks LASTMA official unconscious with his gun Posted: 20 Mar 2014 11:11 AM PDT  Trouble started when LASTMA officials attempted to tow a vehicle parked in front of a bank which was causing traffic. The police officers guarding the bank challenged the LASTMA officials and tried to prevent them from towing the vehicle which was said to belong to a bank customer. An arguement ensued and before anyone could stop it, one LASTMA official was rushed to the hospital after a police man gave him a head butt and smashed the butt of his gun into his face. When other LASTMA officials saw what had happened to their colleague, they turned the whole scene into a free for all show as both parties started arguing and fighting. Head of LASTMA confirmed the incident and said the unconscious official is receiving medical attention. |
| Oscar Pistorius selling home where he shot and killed his girlfriend Posted: 20 Mar 2014 09:25 AM PDT  Oscar Pistorius's lawyer revealed today that the paralympian is planning to sell the house in which he killed his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, to enable him raise money for his legal fees which has been rapidly increasing since the commencement of his trial. A statement on his official website confirmed he is selling the houseReports say with all advertising deals closed up and none in sight, Oscar has been grappling with raising money to pay his legal team. He has since been selling off some of his other properties and some of his racehorses. "It has become necessary to sell Mr. Pistorius' home in the Silver Woods Country Estate in Pretoria in order for him to raise the necessary funds to cover his increasing legal costs. This is due to the unexpected extension of the trial beyond the initial three weeks period for which it was originally set down". |

| Bowen University closed indefinitely following students' riot Posted: 20 Mar 2014 07:26 AM PDT   "They take the light by 8am, and bring it back by 8pm and it goes off by 11pm again. We don't have water, no socket light, while our lecturers are in AC offices and cars. We have time table for eating. 7-9am for breakfast, 12-3 for lunch and 6-8 for dinner. Most times we have classes during these periods" one student told me.All students have been asked to leave the university...while some students who were detained last night after the riot are yet to be released. | Julius Agwu paid my law school fees, late Abagana's wife says Posted: 20 Mar 2014 02:32 AM PDT   In a recent interview with Encomium mag, Angela Chukwu, the widow of late comedian Chibuzor Ajaoku popularly known as Abagana, who died in 2008, revealed that of all her late husband's colleagues who made a promise to be there for her and her daughter, only comedian Julius Agwu and Dauda have been helpful and said Julius even recently paid her law school fees. Abagana who is Julius Agwu's protege in the comic profession, died suddenly on January 24th 2008 leaving behind a wife and one year old daughter."Julius Agwu has truly shown that he is Abagana's father and mentor. | Lady beats 10 year old niece into unconsciousness for bed-wetting Posted: 20 Mar 2014 12:20 AM PDT  According to the police, the suspect as punishment, used a spatula to beat the 10-year-old and inserted Aboniki balm (methyl salicylate ointment) inside her private parts and her eyes. The suspect also allegedly inflicted teeth bites all over the girl's body. It was after the girl fainted during the beating that her aunt rushed her to a hospital in the Ajah area, but she was rejected. Amodu then took her niece to a military hospital on the Victoria Island, but the victim was referred to the Military Hospital, Awolowo Road, Ikoyi. It was at the military hospital that a non-governmental organisation, Hands that Care, took over the case and reported it to the police.The suspect, crying profusely, said she only beat her niece on three occasions. That the victim was her uncle's daughter and she would never attempt to kill her. "I am very sorry for my action. I did not envisage what happened. The first time she wet the bed, I warned her to stop bedwetting because she is too old for that. She was left under my care by her father who is my uncle, so I needed to correct her. This is the second time she wet the bed and I needed to teach her a lesson. As I was beating her, she passed out. She was released to me by her father when I told him about the strange sickness that used to hit me because I was lonely and needed a companion." The victim could not talk much, but when asked if she was tortured by her cousin, she nodded in approval. National Coordinator of the Hands that Cares, Mrs. Jacinta Nworie, said the girl was released to the suspect by her father in Kogi State because Amodu promised to train her in Lagos. "The victim told us that the suspect bit her, inserted ointment into her private part and used stick to beat her up." Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, who expressed shock over the incident, described Amodu's action as wicked. She said: "On February 29, 2014, the police at Onikan Division got information that a little girl was in one hospital in critical condition. The officers went there and found the victim with her face and hands swollen as a result of beating. The victim was later referred to the Military Hospital, Awolowo Road, Ikoyi for better treatment. An NGO, Hands that Care, was invited into the case by a good Nigerian. The NGO said it would settle the girl's hospital bills, but called for Amodu's prosecution. It was learnt that the family members were already pleading that the victim and the suspect be released to them, saying it was a family matter. | Australia finds 2 potential bits of missing Malaysian plane wreckage Posted: 20 Mar 2014 12:14 AM PDT  Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott announced the potential breakthrough to Parliament in Canberra Thursday, but warned the wreckage may not be from the missing flight. Continue... John Young of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority said at an afternoon press conference that one aircraft was already on scene searching the area, and three others were due to meet it into Thursday evening. A merchant ship dispatched in the search operation was also due to arrive around 6p.m. Canberra time. The imagery, which was progressively captured by satellites passing over the area, has not yet been released to the media. Commercial satellites have been tasked with collecting higher resolution images of the floating objects. Mr Young said visibility was poor in the area, hampering both air and satellite efforts and he estimated the water in the location where the debris was spotted to be several thousand feet deep.
