Photos: Check out Nadia's massive engagement ring from Jim Iyke

Posted: 27 Mar 2014 12:46 PM PDT

So I just watched the part 2 of Jim Iyke's reality show, Jim Iyke Unscripted, where the actor proposed to his actress girlfriend Nadia Buari. The proposal actually happened in Barcelona, Spain in Nov. 2013. He proposed. She cried. She said yes. He put the ring on her finger. They hugged. Jim said 'I love you' seven times. People in the restaurant clapped and congratulated them.

I guess they are really engaged...don't understand what they're both saying now. Once again, congrats to them. Continue to see more photos...

Toll collection on Lekki-Bridge to continue, Lagos Attorney-General insists

Posted: 27 Mar 2014 11:56 AM PDT

A Federal High court this morning nullified collection of toll on the Lekki-Ikoyi bridge after a human rights lawyer, Ebun Adegboruwa, filed a lawsuit. But despite that ruling, the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ade Ipaye says toll collection on the bridge will continue.

The State Attorney General said this today a few hours after the Federal High court rulling
"The judgment read this morning did not specifically address many of the questions raised by the applicant, neither did it grant any of the declarations sought. So the road users will continue to pay. All the same, we are not ruling out any kind of interpretation". Aside from the failure of the court to make any consequential order or declaration, the judgment contains at least two or three fundamental errors. And one of the errors is the assumption that the Private Public Partnerships Law of Lagos State, which we cited in support of toll collection, did not apply, simply because the bridge was not constructed by public-private partnership". Ipaye said
The Attorney-General also revealed that the Lagos State Government plan to appeal the judgement and file an application for stay of execution.

Tchidi Chikere and Nuella Njubigbo to wed this weekend; issues statement

Posted: 27 Mar 2014 10:50 AM PDT

I know this sounds like 'No way!' but it's really 'Yes way!' :-). Actress Nuella Njubigbo will wed long time love, Nollywood producer/director Tchidi Chikere this weekend in her hometown in Anambra state and this is authoritative.

The couple who have been dating before Tchidi divorced his actress wife and mother of his 3 children Sophia Chikere, moved in together at Graceland Estate in Ajah last year.

Nuella has issued a statement confirming the news of her upcoming wedding, saying that she's only following her heart. Find the statement after the cut...

Let me start by confirming some of the rumours you may have heard. Yes, the traditional marriage rites between Tchidi Chikere and I will be performed soon. This was not the way we imagined or planned it, but as they say, nobody has a crystal ball to tell where or who we end up with. Life is a dice.

At the time the rumours of his separation/divorce and me being involved was going on, I definitely was not in that space where some story writers said I was. I was busy doing other things with my life, other preoccupations, a relationship (I thought would lead to marriage), and my acting career. Things happened, my relationship packed up and we went our separate ways, I moved on.
Tchidi and I have always been friends (As I am with other colleagues), We trade in the same career, but we never crossed that line (we never dated), not to talk of me getting pregnant for him ( I'm presently not pregnant as still being written) sometimes It's really tiring confirming or refuting some of these rumors.  I know some naysayers would still believe what they have made up their minds to believe and stick to; Truth is, I am not making this statement for those set of people, neither am I making it to get people on my side. This statement goes out to those who love me and truly care about me and the way I live my life, and to my very reliable and supportive fans who have been asking questions and deserve to know the truth.
In the past two years, Tchidi and I worked more, we got closer and more friendly, we were both single and I began to understand and see the real him. Needless to say that I also began to really, really like this real person I was getting to know more and more with every passing day. Then it happened, our hearts clicked. Well, maybe the flying rumours contributed to this and made me look more his way, or it could have been part of life we have no control over.
Suffice this to say, he proposed to me a while ago and after very careful thought and consideration on every side I said yes. Would I say no because of what people would say and damn where my heart led me? Just like Bill Cosby said, 'the key to failure is trying to please everybody'. I chose not to take that route, instead follow my heart.
My heart is remarkably at peace with this decision, and I am willing to take this leap of faith which every married woman has taken. Where this love will lead me I cannot say, I am not God, but, I have hope, faith and believe that it will lead me to a good place. Every one of us in this life deserves a chance to be happy. I am taking my own chance.
This is the only statement I am making on this, any other one after this is not from me. I can't help what people say or write, but please be careful about what you listen to or read and believe. For those who wish me the best, I wish the very best, for those who don't, I leave you to God who sees and knows all things. Thanks for reading.

Signed
Nuella Njubigbo

Policeman kills self, wife, 5 others over marital dispute in Abeokuta

Posted: 27 Mar 2014 09:47 AM PDT

A police officer in Ogun State today Thursday march 27th shot and killed seven people including his own wife, a 2 year old, and himself, Premium Times reports. The full report below...
Police Corporal Sunkanmi Ogunbiyi, attached to State Criminal Investigation Department of the Ogun State Police Command, went berserk on Thursday morning in Abeokuta.
The rampaging policeman was said to be having matrimonial problems with Oluwatosin, his wife, who is also a police corporal attached to Obantoko police station in Abeokuta, the Ogun capital.
According to neighbours, following a quarrel between the couple, Oluwatosin moved, alongside their two children, to the house of a neighbour, their landlady.
Witnesses said Mr. Ogunbiyi arrived the landlady's residence at about 7:02 a.m. and immediately opened fire on his wife. He also shot and killed the landlady, a 2-year-old toddler, and three others. He did not shoot at his children, who were also in the house.

Three other tenants also sustained gunshot injuries during the incident which occurred at 67, Ifelodun Street, Akingbala area of Obantoko, Abeokuta. The injured were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, where they are now receiving treatment.

Some neighbours told PREMIUM TIMES that the police corporal had in the past warned the landlady not to harbour his wife and children whenever the couple had any misunderstanding.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye, later visited the scene to assess the situation.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement, confirmed the incident.
He said that Mr. Ogunbiyi and his wife had been having 'domestic conflicts' before Thursday's killings.

"The Ogun State Police Command has deemed it necessary to react to the killing of six persons by a police Corporal Sunkanmi Ogunbiyi attached to the Ogun State Police Command," the spokesperson said in the statement.

"The unfortunate incident occurred this morning Thursday 27th March, 2014 at 0758hrs when the said corporal, who had been having domestic conflicts with his wife, shot and killed six persons, with his rifle, including his wife, Woman Corporal Oluwatosin Faremi, the landlady in the house, a two-year-old baby girl and two males and one female, while another three persons sustained injuries and receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Idi Aba, Abeokuta. The said corporal, having killed these persons, shot himself dead immediately.

"The Commissioner of Police Ogun State, CP Ikemefuna Okoye has described the incident as unfortunate; and has visited the scene with other senior police officers in the command to assess the situation and sympathize with the relations of the deceased and members of the Akingbala Ifelodun Estate, Eleweran Area, Abeokuta, where the incident took place," he added.

Mr. Adejobi said "The Command has therefore commenced thorough forensic investigation into the killing and promised to make sure justice is done in the matter."

" The commissioner of police however appeals to the general public to perceive the incident as one of the unfortunate social mishaps and not to judge the police with the incident, as the police is committed to protection of lives and property and will not tolerate any act capable of trampling on fundamental human rights of the citizens of Ogun State."

Pic: Police arrest Nassarawa State Commissioner for fence scaling

Posted: 27 Mar 2014 03:32 AM PDT

In a bid to stop the State House of Assembly from summoning the helmsman at the Nassarawa State Independent Electoral Commission for questioning, the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the state, Mr. Innocent Lagi, scaled the fence of the Assembly complex after been denied access into the complex by security men stationed at the complex.

Mr Lagi had wanted to pass to the house leadership a court injunction restraining them from summoning the states electoral chairman for questioning on electoral matters in the state. Before he got to the House premises, the electoral chairman and his commissioners had already answered to the summon by the House.

After jumping the fence, the commissioner was detained for about 40 minutes at the Assembly's security post before he was taken away in an armored personnel carrier .

Court nullifies collection of toll on Lekki-Ikoyi bridge

Posted: 27 Mar 2014 03:11 AM PDT

According to a report by Sahara Reporters, a Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, today nullified the collection of any toll or tariff on the Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge.
Ruling on the suit, which was filed by human rights lawyer, Ebun Adegboruwa, presiding judge, Justice Saidu, J. held that the power of control over all navigable waterways in Nigeria resides in the Federal Government, and not any state government.
He held that from all the documents made available to the court, the only justification for the toll fee on the bridge by Lagos State is the private partnership law.
However, he noted that the law could not apply to the Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge since it was built with the money of the Lagos State Government, without the involvement of any private partnership.
"Thus, since there is no law supporting the toll fee, it is illegal and should be stopped forthwith", Justice Saidu said.

Photos: Edo State Commissioner for Sports in street brawl

Posted: 27 Mar 2014 02:59 AM PDT

The Edo State Commissioner for Sports, Chris Okaeben, engaged in a street brawl with officials of War Against Indiscipline in Benin on Monday March 24th after the WAI officers apprehended a vehicle belonging to Captain Hosa Okunbor, for violating traffic light by Hexagon junction along Airport road.

According to eye-witnesses, the driver of Captain Okunbor's SUV pulled over and told the WAI officials that the SUV belonged to a leader and that they had no right to apprehend the vehicle even if he drove through a red light.

When the WAI officials insisted on taking the car to the office for prosecution, the driver put up a heavy resistance and started making calls. Within 10 minutes the Commissioner for Sports Chris Okaeben drove down with some armed policemen and started fighting the WAI officials. Fortunately a passerby recorded the street brawl on his phone. Empowering police wives will improve National Security - Zahra Bunu Abubakar

Posted: 27 Mar 2014 01:00 AM PDT

Mrs Zahra Bunu-Abubakar is the President Police Officer's Wives Association (POWA), and wife of the Inspector General of Police. This pretty amiable personality has distinguished herself by impacting on the lives of Police officers wives. In an exclusive interview with Sweet Angel she reveals how she intends to drive home the vision of POWA and how she met her husband amongst other issues. Excerpts after the cut...

Madam can you briefly introduce yourself?I am Mrs Zahra Bunu-Abubakar, I come from a very big family, not just a nuclear family but extended family. I went to primary School in Maiduguri, Secondary School in Jos Air force Military School, after which I proceeded to UK for my A levels. I later came back to study Civil Engineering in Ahmadu Bello University Zaria after which I went for my Masters in construction management. My Father is an architect and I think that motivated my choice of study. I practiced Civil Engineering for a while and later moved to oil and gas that is where I am right now.

What kind of ambition did you nurse while growing up?
When I was young at about the ages of 7or 8 my Dad engaged in the building of NNPC, after some years when I had gotten into secondary school a lot of people talked and commended the building. I started nursing the ambition of constructing such a building that would attract the admiration of all, but I guess that changed.

What changed it?
Like I mentioned earlier I enjoyed going to site but I encountered a lot of challenges.
How much impact did your Dad have on you?
Not just my Dad, my parents inculcated morals in us, we had both western and Islamic education, we were taught to be honest, we were brought up in such a way that our peers looked up to us.

What is it like being the wife of the Inspector General of Police?
I wasn't used to being in the limelight, I am more of a private person, initially it was quite challenging but he supported, guided and protected me and now I am better off.

How do you cope with your husband's hectic schedule?
I knew the man I was marrying, and I also know the security situation in the country and how much Nigerians need him. I also know that security in our country should be given utmost priority in order to create a better country and conducive environment for our children. Despite his tight schedule he tries his best to create time for his family.

What is your experience heading an organization like POWA?
The Police Force is the largest single organization in Nigeria and as such POWA is a large family. POWA encompasses both the wives and children of Police officers. It is Police Officers Wives Association but we impact on the lives of our children. A lot of women are idle we all know that sourcing for funds is quite challenging. At the moment we solicit for funds from the general public, captains of industries, and individuals. It is worthy to note that the Nigeria Police Force have always been of support to POWA. Empowering Police wives will help in tackling insecurity in our land. It will also help in eradicating Corruption, as this will accord the wives the opportunity to be of assistance to their husbands, thereby aiding to eradicate corruption in the Force. I feel if they are empowered they would have every reason to contribute their portion in actualizing the vision of POWA.

How have you been able to surmount the Challenges of POWA?
Like I said earlier I came from a large family and there are a lot of women than there are men. I happen to be the first in a family of thirteen, this and the fact that I have a military background to a certain extent has broadened my ability to manage POWA effectively. My father was a politician and I was involved one way or the other. I am used to working with different caliber of people and that has helped. Our major challenge is in the area of funding we have a lot of plans mapped out for the women but insufficient funds have always posed as a challenge. Another challenge asides funds is that most times when we hold meetings a lot of women don't attend these meetings, and their excuses boils down to funding.

What has been your major achievement since assumption into office?
After taking over from the Acting President in November last year, I continued in line with what the previous President had been doing. Every regime has its strategies, so what we are presently working on right now is the commemoration of POWA's 50th anniversary which is set to come by April. We have lined up of activities which comprise sporting activities, talent shows, fund raising and dinner amongst others. The sporting activity and talent show is meant to engage our children, we have prizes for winners. We shall be partnering with IGP to further encourage and support the winners. The talent shows are for both the women and children of Police officers. A lot of them don't have the platform to showcase their talents. This is also an opportunity to bring them to public limelight. The proceeds from the fund raising dinner is meant to acquire skills for the women. A lot of the women have small businesses but do not know how to run or manage them properly; we shall be organizing courses for women on that. We are also trying to build a youth centre in Dedei barracks, which is the biggest barracks in Abuja. There are lots of idle youths due to lack of access to job opportunities, this centre is meant to engage them. There will be skill acquisition centre for the women as well. We shall also organize lectures and trainings for selected women from each state which will run for two days. Asides marking the 50th anniversary of POWA, we have some accomplishments to our credit. Earlier this year there was a School commissioned at Asaba Delta state. There is also the Lagos secretariat multipurpose hall that was also commissioned in Lagos. We are also currently visiting all the barracks here in Abuja to find out how we can assist and empower the women. The issue of empowerment in POWA cannot be overemphasized that is why we are trying to integrate that into our vision and mission statement for POWA. I am also driving a new culture of cleanliness in the barracks, we have enforced meetings and sanitation in the barracks, and mapped out sanctions for defaulters.

What is the vision of POWA?
POWA aims to become an effective, sustainable organization that actively enhances the quality of life of women and children of the Police and serve as a recognized resource for community partnership, post conflict rehabilitation and youth empowerment.

How do you manage, combining your roles as a wife and POWA President?
Obviously my husband is my priority, the association teaches us to support our husbands and so I give him all the required support. My husband is passionate about changing the lives of the Police, he does his best to support POWA.

How has POWA being of assistance to the widows?
We have been trying to ensure they get the benefits of their late husbands. Sometimes these women don't even know who the next of kin to their husband is, the process of documentation, or how to go about it. During our visits to the barracks we brought in welfare and pension experts to lecture and enlighten them on these important issues. We are presently in discussion with Police Micro Finance Bank to help give soft loans to these women to ensure they have access to funding.

What has being in the limelight denied you of doing?
I don't think being in the limelight has denied me anything much. Like I said earlier I am generally a private person, so I try to be more of a homely person.

How do you relax?
I like to read a lot, watch movies, and travel.

What is your definition of style, and how do you like to dress?
For me style is not going for what is in vogue, it's about wearing what suites you and makes you look elegant. I wear what I think looks nice on me and make me look elegant.

What life philosophy guides your daily living and interaction with people?
I generally belief that you should treat one as you would like to be treated, I live my life that way and I am always conscious of life hereafter.

How did you meet your husband?
At a mutual friends house.
