| Video: Pregnant mom drives van filled with children into ocean Posted: 06 Mar 2014 11:43 AM PST  Lifeguards at the beach rescued the woman, believed to be mentally disturbed, and her three children aged, 3, 9 and 10 from the ocean after they heard the children screaming from the back of the van. A witness captured video of the harrowing rescue on his phone (which you can find after the cut). Police said when they tried speaking with the woman, whose identity has not been released, she sounded incoherent and kept talking about demons chasing her. She's now undergoing a mental health evaluation while her children are with family members. See the amazing rescue video after the cut... |

| Soldiers stop planned Boko Haram attack in Borno, kill 20 of them Posted: 06 Mar 2014 10:59 AM PST  Fortunately the military men overpowered them, killed many of them and seized different calibers of machine guns and improvised explosive devices from them, this is according to the Director of Defence Information, Maj. Gen Chris Olukolade. He said some soldiers, who were from the 7th Division of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri, were injured in the battle but no soldier was killed. "Attempts by terrorists to attack Ajiri and Mafa as well as other communities in the outskirt of Maiduguri and Dikwa in Borno State towards the Cameroon borders, yesterday were foiled by the security forces. The ambush mounted by the terrorists to enable them unleash terror on the communities unchallenged, was also cleared by troops on reinforcement mission. "Arms captured from the terrorists include various brands of machine guns and improvised explosive devices. Twenty insurgents died in the encounter, while our troops sustained varying degree of injuries. Also, more camps were destroyed yesterday in encounters at various forests and mountain locations around Adamawa and Borno States," Olukayode said |

| Feni Fani-Kayode re-arraigned for alleged N100m money laundering Posted: 06 Mar 2014 10:21 AM PST  The trial judge, Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia, fixed March 10, 17, 18 and 19 for the trial. Today Mr. Fani-Kayode sat patiently in the dock as the court registrar slowly read out all the 40 counts of money laundering against him. He responded "not guilty" to all of them.According to the EFCC, one Mark Ndifreke, a former aide who is now at large, had deposited various amounts of money running into tens of millions into Mr. Fani-Kayode's bank account while he was a serving minister. Other aides such as Florence Salau, Ojo Agbor, Daniel Atogo, Supo Agbaje – all of whom are still at large – had also deposited millions of naira into the former minister's bank account, the EFCC said. The anti-graft agency also accused Mr. Fani-Kayode of using his wife, Regina, and his daughter, Remilekun, as a conduit to launder millions of naira. |

| Lol. 80's singer Miki Howard's son says he's Michael Jackson's son Posted: 06 Mar 2014 09:33 AM PST  From TMZ Michael Jackson has a 31-year-old son - at least that's what the man claims - and we're told he plans to go public on Thursday with what he believes is ironclad DNA evidence. His name is Brandon Howard - the son of singer Miki Howard, whom Joe Jackson represented back in the 1980s. Sources close to Brandon tell us, Miki and MJ met in 1982 and Brandon was born soon after. As for why B Howard is so sure he's MJ's son ... our sources say he somehow acquired DNA from an old orthodontic device worn by Michael ... it's unclear how he got hold of it, but we're told the test results show a match. The results will be unveiled Thursday on FilmOn.com. Oh yeah ... once the DNA results are revealed, he plans to go after the MJ Estate for money. MJ estate lawyer Howard Weitzman tells TMZ, "We've never even heard from him," adding, "Any deadline for claiming to be Michael's child has long since passed." Brandon is a singer who goes by the name B Howard. Check out the music video he released in 2011 - in which he blatantly bites MJ's dance moves and vocals. |
| 400level student of OAU, Dipo Ige, commits suicide after being jilted Posted: 06 Mar 2014 09:22 AM PST  Dipo was found dead in his apartment at the Asherifa area of Ile-Ife on Monday evening. He'd killed himself with poison. The student who is said to be above average academically had been threatening to kill himself for weeks before he finally did. According to his friends, Dipo's girlfriend of almost a year broke things off with him in early February and all means to get her back didn't work. Friends said he was a loner and always talked about being depressed and so didn't think the break up affected him so bad when he started to withdraw into himself. And nobody really took his threat to commit suicide seriously until his body was found in his off campus residence. His body has been taken away to his home town of Ibadan by his family members. Suicide is never the answer! |

Some AGN members, including Grace Amah, Segun Arinze and Charles Inojie have volunteered to go to with her to these high security risk areas but no particular date has been picked. |

| Obesere alleged rape case: victim alleges pressure from police to strike out case Posted: 06 Mar 2014 07:58 AM PST  A police source also disclosed that Obesere found it difficult to pressurize the DPO at Isolo into striking out the matter or persuade the victim to accept a settlement. The source, who craved anonymity, also said Obesere contacted some top citizens to wade into the matter by persuading the DPO to soft-pedal on the matter but they backed down when they discovered that the police have incriminating evidence against the musician. Victim relocates to Sagamu for treatment Meantime, the victim, Olaiya, told Vanguard yesterday that she had relocated to her home town, Sagamu in Ogun State, where she is currently receiving treatment for the rape incident. Olaiya, who spoke with Vanguard on the telephone, said: "As I speak with you, I am in Sagamu, my home town, where I have been receiving traditional treatment since the incident occurred. I bled for more than two weeks —Victim "I bled for more than two weeks after Alhaji Obesere raped me and inserted his ring into my private part. The incident occurred on February 12, 2013 and I have spent a lot of money treating myself. "The DPO, Isolo Police division, took pity on me and refused to give in to Obesere's pressure to strike out the case and God will bless him for that. "But last week I was informed that the case had been transferred to the SCID and my Investigating Police Office, IPO, at Isolo asked me to come to the station on Tuesday for the transfer. "But when I got to the SCID, I discovered the IPO, who took over the case, one Mr. Jacob, I don't know his rank, became hostile to me. "You need to see how this man treated me. He started by asking me to write a new statement and when I tried to explain that I had written a statement at Isolo division, he rebuffed my explanation and insisted I wrote a new one. They threatened to kill me "Afterwards, they started threatening me. The IPO, Alhaji Obesere, and some of his brothers, who were present there, asked me to stop the journalists from publishing my story and if I don't, I will be a dead person. "I was so frightened when they said this and each time my phone rang someone would pick it up to know who was calling. "Later, they discovered I wasn't going to break, then they started begging me and promised to take care of me. Alhaji Obesere even said he was going to take me to the best hospital for treatment. "At the end, I rose to leave and they offered to drop me in my place. The IPO also insisted that I should follow them. Instead of taking me to my area, they took me to Obesere's house and the woman who introduced me to him was also there. "While I was with them I alerted the police at Isolo and told them where I was. "But yesterday, they called after they saw the publication and started threatening again to kill me. "I am highly terrified, that was why I travelled back to my home to get some treatment." |

| FG closes Federal Government Colleges in Yobe, Borno, Adamawa Posted: 06 Mar 2014 02:37 AM PST  The schools that were shut down are: *Federal Government Girls College, Munguno *Federal Science and Technical College, Lassa in Borno *Federal Government College, Potiskum *Federal Government College, Buni Yadi in Yobe *Federal Science and Technical College, Michika, Adamawa. Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, made this known yesterday Wednesday March 5th. The schools were closed because they were considered to be located 'within the high security risk areas in the North.'. The schools will remain closed until the security situation in the states improves, while the teachers of the affected schools will be sent to new schools. |
| Mile 2 Road now a den of robbers Posted: 06 Mar 2014 02:19 AM PST   The ongoing road construction on Apapa Expressway is causing high traffic on the road and armed robbers are taking advantage of the situation to rob road users, this is according to people who ply that route. This morning two MTN female staff working at the office in Apapa were robbed. One of the victims who was also robbed last week was stabbed in the eye with a knife after the robbers broke their car window. A LIB reader who witnessed the incident sent in the photos (See pics of the robbery victim in the hospital after the cut) People who work and live in the Apapa area of Lagos are asking the police to help them. If you ply that route, have you ever encountered armed robbers? Is it a serious problem in the area?      |
| Sham bride arrested trying to marry her fourth Nigerian husband Posted: 06 Mar 2014 01:37 AM PST   According to the UK Daily Mail, Raquel, who had already married three Nigerians to help give them the right to stay in the UK was caught just minutes before she could marry her fourth husband. Suspicious staff at the registry noticed she'd been there previously to wed other men and used the same wedding dress at each ceremony. And after she was arrested, records showed she hadn't even bothered to formally divorce previous husbands before marrying a new one...for money. The fourth groom, a 32-year-old Nigerian (pictured above), was arrested with her and has been deported. UK Immigration is now looking for her three other husbands so they can be deported too. As for Rachel, she is now behind bars serving a two-year sentence and will be deported to her native Portugal on her release from prison. |
