Court orders 37 defected PDP House of Reps members to resign

Posted: 31 Mar 2014 10:24 AM PDT

The 37 PDP House of Representatives members who defected to APC in December 2013 have been ordered to vacate their seats and the House.
Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court in Abuja gave the order today while delivering judgment in a suit filed against the defected lawmakers by the PDP. The judge said the lawmakers no longer had any business, morally and legally in the Assembly and so should resign.
"Having perused the arguments of counsel and the constitutional provisions, it is clear and unambiguous that the defendants were sponsored by the PDP and won the election on its platform. It is also the court's opinion that their tenure has not expired and there is no division in the PDP.
"The defendants are, therefore, not competent to vote or contribute to any proceedings in the House of Representatives. An order of perpetual injunction is, hereby, ordered, restraining them from altering or attempting to change the leadership of the House of Reps," Justice Ademola said.
In January 2014, PDP instituted a suit against the defected lawmakers who attempted to cause an alteration in the leadership of the House of Representative.

Helen Prest Ajayi & daughter launch auction site, U-wantit.com

Posted: 31 Mar 2014 09:44 AM PDT

Former Miss Nigeria, Helen Prest Ajayi and her eldest daughter Tiffany-Annabelle have launched an online auction site, u-wantit.com where you can buy luxury items like iPhones, Laptops, Louboutins, Chanel, Louis Vuitton and much more for almost 90% off retail prices. Mrs Ajayi explains how the site works below...
I was getting ready to go to a party when I realized the bag I had planned on rocking (as my daughters would say) was missing! After serious interrogation of my daughters, I found the culprit to be my eldest daughter who was planning to rock it at university. In the moment I wanted to shout, but thought about it, really who doesn't like nice things?
Like my daughter Tiffany-Annabelle, people want designer things. But sometimes they don't always have the means to get them when they want them. It's really hard when you look at Reality TV and magazines and everybody seems to have it but you! Continue..
This is why Tiffany and I came up with the concept u-wantit.com to give everyone a chance to get brand new luxury items like Louis Vuitton, iPhones, Gucci, iPads and much much more for up to 90% off the original price!

HOW IT WORKS:
To get started, you will need to buy u-wantit credit. You can use your credit to either REVEAL THE PRICE or bid to be the LOWEST UNIQUE BID

REVEAL THE PRICE - Every time you click, the price goes down. The more people that click the lower the price goes. If you can afford the price you see when you click, go ahead and buy.

LOWEST UNIQUE BID - For this Auction you enter the lowest price that you want to pay (e.g. iPhone 5c for N2, 500/£10.00), if anyone enters the same price as you, it's not unique. The person with the Lowest Unique Price wins and gets to buy the item at the winning price they enter.
At U-Wantit.com you pay "Last Price" for everything u-want.

USP: Prices are Up to 90% off Retail prices
IDEAL MEMBER:Anyone who loves Designer things and wants AUTHENTIC DESIGNER Bags, Shoes and Latest Gadgets at Fantastically Low Prices.

Homeless single mom jailed for leaving her kids in car to go on job interview

Posted: 31 Mar 2014 09:09 AM PDT

What a heartbreaking mugshot. A homeless single mom, 35 year old Shanesha Taylor, who struggled to make ends meet is in jail after she left her two sons, a 2 year old and 6 month old in her car while she went on a job interview.

Madamenoire.com reports...
The Scottsdale, Ariz. native was arrested after she left her young sons in a hot SUV that was locked with the windows cracked as she went for a job interview at an insurance company. A passerby heard Taylor's youngest child crying and called police. When they arrived, Taylor returned to her car 45 minutes after police got to the scene, and when police arrested her, the two boys were reportedly "crying and sweating profusely." Taylor told police that she was homeless and needed the work, and because she couldn't find someone to watch her kids, she had to take them with her. This event occurred on March 20. Continue...
The response to her story has been split, with some people saying that while she did make a mistake, she was simply trying to find work to feed her kids. Others say, she left two kids in a hot car, it's wrong, dangerous, and she should have known better. Well, those in support of Taylor have actually set up a fundraising campaign on YouCaring.com to help raise money for Taylor and her kids, who are in the custody of Child Protective Services at this time as she awaits charges. The goal was only $9,000, which according to the person who set up the fundraising campaign, Amanda Bishop, would be put into an account for her family. However, the fundraiser has brought in a whopping $63,000.

Taylor is still in jail while her children remain in protective custody.

Was she wrong to leave her kids in the car to go look for a job? What's your thoughts on this?

Fred Ajudua denied bail...again!

Posted: 31 Mar 2014 08:38 AM PDT

An Ikeja High court this morning denied suspected fraudster Fred Ajudua's bail application and has ordered that he be remanded in Kirirkiri prison. Ajudua had applied for bail to seek medical attention outside the prison.

Delivering her judgement, Justice Khudirat Jose said according to medical reports presented by LUTH & attached to his bail application, he'd been treated for enlarged prostrate gland, hypertension and traumatic Haematuria sometime in August 2013 and there was no where in the report that stated he could not be treated in prison for any ailment. She also added that Ajudua had failed to convince her that he would neither abscond during the trial period nor interfere with witnesses if he is granted bail.

Fred Ajudua is standing trial for defrauding two dutch businessmen of $1.69million and former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Ishaya Bamaiyi, of  about $8.395m. The case was adjourned to April 28th.

'I'm a supporter of polygamy; most African men are polygamous in nature' - Jibola Dabo

Posted: 31 Mar 2014 07:38 AM PDT

Nollywood actor Jibola Dabo, who has five children from different women said in a recent interview with TheNetng that he's an ardent supporter of polygamy and believes that most men in Africa are polygamous in nature. Read what he said below and tell us if you agree with him...
"People misunderstands what polygamy means. I am an ardent supporter of polygamy. Every single man, mostly from Africa, is polygamous in nature. We are just deceiving ourselves. Polygamy means when you see a woman you love and desire, you marry her with the consent of your already married wife and bring her home. It's not when you have one wife at home, then you have others scattered in different other places, that is not polygamy. And not when you have three wives and you cannot take care of one, that is an insult to polygamy. There are so many women out there who just want to have a man as an umbrella, but we keep saying one man one woman. Yet the women keep suffering. We all know that we have much more women in this world than men, the ratio is too high.
My father had six wives, my uncle that brought me up had so many wives also. What I am saying is that it is not illegal, we are not in America. Ironically, the white man would have one wife and still keep so many mistresses. If not, there wouldn't have been an English word for concubines. That means it exists in their culture. Which is better, concubines or wives? In the days when polygamy was well respected, diseases were not rampant. It is now that when men hide to do it that strange sexually transmitted diseases have become the order of the day" he said.
"I have only one wife but I have children from more than one woman. And its not because I had mistresses, its because I have lived in various countries, including America, France, Britain etc. I am this person that any woman that comes to me would always want to have something for me. I have had experiences. I was with a woman and years later, a child was brought to me, a child I didn't know when it was conceived". he added

A Lamborghini Aventador speed car worth about $450,000 was wrecked in a three-car smash on one of London's most expensive streets, Sloane Street in Knightsbridge, yesterday afternoon.

The Lamborghini was involved in the crash with a BMW and a Mazda 5. The matte black super car collided with the Mazda, then hit a stationary BMW, badly damaging the front of the car. Ouch! I'm seriously hurting for the owner...:-). See more photos after the cut...

'Facts About The New Lagos State Smoking In Public Places Law'

Posted: 31 Mar 2014 06:21 AM PDT

Article sent in by Choices Nigeria.
There have been different views on the recently passed smoking law since it was signed by the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola on 17th of February 2014.
We have now obtained a copy of the law and are surprised to read that contrary to what some people think, the law only becomes effective on the 17thof August 2014, which is six months after the Governor signed. This means that even the police that have been harassing smokers are not aware of this. Incredibly, the law also allows for smoking in open places such as on the streets, roads and highways as wells as in 10% of hotels, bars, night clubs and tertiary institutions. It even goes further to state that the law will be enforced by the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), meanwhile all manner of people have been harassing smokers, even LATSMA and Boys Scout.. Can our government ensure that the public are well informed about laws they pass to prevent undue harassment of its citizens.

Marilyn Ogar, the spokesperson for the Department of State Security Services (SSS) said yesterday that 21 detained terrorists died during the attempted jailbreak at the Service's headquarters in Abuja on Sunday morning.
"Following our earlier releases, it has been established that eighteen (18) casualties were recorded, while two (2) Service personnel sustained serious injuries. Three (3) other detainees who sustained gunshot injuries during the incident have also died.

'There was no violence or infidelity involved in my marriage' - Joseph Benjamin

Posted: 31 Mar 2014 08:21 AM PDT

Actor Joseph Benjamin was a guest on Rubbin Minds yesterday Sunday March 30th where he opened up about his divorce. When the host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, asked him if he was finally divorced, the father of two said he was 'working on it.'

Ebuka also took him up on rumours of violence and infidelity being the reason for his separation, Benjamin said it wasn't true. What he said below...
"A lot was misconstrued and I will not hold anyone responsible for it because everyone is entitled to their opinion and for me I believe that when you embark on a journey like that, it is something that, it requires the two people involved to have a certain form of understanding. Let me go a bit spiritual with you here, the Bible says can two work if they do not agree? So there should be some form of agreement. Continue...
You guys should have this certain joint that kind of links you up together and if to an extent its not there and one feels that there is a need for you to like maybe, move on, lets be matured about this, let things go in a very calm and subtle manner. So that's basically it. I would say that (this is on a bid to being very particular of what I say) because that is how it was misconstrued. So for me that is what informed the decision and I would say because I am on national television that there was no form of violence. There was no report of infidelity. She is an amazing person, I give her that credit, I would always say that because I am not one who would talk down any human being" he said.

‘MS didn’t kill Zara, ignorance did’, Yemisi Ilo blames Zara’s family for her death

Posted: 31 Mar 2014 04:14 AM PDT

Yemisi Ilo, a creative consultant and project manager, says she's been living with Multiple Sclerosis for nearly 10 years and feels that Zara Gretti's situation shouldn't have deteriorated to the point of death. She feels ignorance and not MS killed the singer, who passed away on Friday March 28th about a year after making her illness public. Read what Yemisi (pictured right) wrote below...

I also have MS and I am currently in Singapore – where by His grace I will finally halt the progression and hopefully and prayerfully reverse some if not all disability. I spoke to Zara on Tuesday. She said she was being given 'Agbo' to drink by her family and that it was killing her. Those were her exact words. I told her to not drink it. With an already compromised immune system – Agbo is bullshit. It is poison. MS is not malaria. I gave Zara clear details of exactly what she needed to do to try to get well. It isn't easy at all - I should know but unfortunately for her, she was surrounded by very ignorant people at the end who felt that they knew best. I first heard of Zara when I read about her on Linda Ikeji's blog a year ago. I got in touch with her immediately and started a Skype friendship. I was in London and she was in the States (US). We spoke regularly.
When I went back to Lagos, we would WhatsApp and I would call her. When she came to Nigeria in October last year, I went to see her and she was surprised that she could move better than me! I organized the Battabox interview (which we did at my parents house). She said she didn't want to live with her mum in the States – yet she had no one to look after her there apart from her mum. She needed someone. She even wanted to come and stay with me, but I am married with small children and my own MS issues were already enough for one house.

I am so pissed off, so angry, so fucking sad, teary and frustrated. If I had been in Nigeria, I would have gone to pick her up on Tuesday when I spoke to her. She was so desperate to leave Ogba. She said she had a return ticket to America and would try to leave ASAP. I gave her my neurologist's number so she could get some steroids to help her get over the horrible relapse she was having. Also to get her to explain the condition to Zara's family so they would realize that this was not an 'Agbo' matter. I have had MS for nearly 10 years. My walking has deteriorated and I am currently alternating between a walker and a wheelchair. Zara was worried that she wouldn't get married and have kids – I told her that I had 4 kids and was happily married and continued to work and that there was hope. I have always been vocal about MS and even appeared on a 'Moments with Mo' episode talking about it. There are many Nigerians with MS – I know a few but they want to keep quiet. Their families are embarrassed. Why? I don't know? It can happen to anyone at any time.

Granted, I am extremely fortunate to have the strength of character and a loving and supportive and enlightened family to deal with this HORRIBLE condition that has led to this opportunity for me to undergo Hemapioetic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT) – Google it. It has taken donations from over 100 people to do this. It costs over $150k (N24,727,501). I told Zara that since she was a US citizen, she could get on a trial at the University of Chicago under Dr. Burt for free. I just want people to know that MS didn't kill Zara – ignorance did. As well as our fatalistic attitude in Nigeria where everyone prays and no one takes action.

Thanks
Yemisi.

Nigerian lesbian asylum seeker says she faces death sentence if deported

Posted: 30 Mar 2014 11:42 PM PDT

46 year old Nigerian lesbian asylum seeker in the UK, Adejumoke Apata (pictured above), says she risks a death sentence if she is deported to Nigeria.

Ms Apata says she fled Nigeria in 2004 and claims that her girlfriend who refused to go with her, was brutally murdered by vigilantes in 2012.

Before she left Nigeria, Adejumoke said she was subjected to homophobic torture, persecution and a brutal arrest after she was exposed as a gay woman. She claims she was also sentenced to death by stoning for being a lesbian. Continue...

Adejumoke, who is facing deportation, doesn't want to be deported and has started a campaign aimed at persuading people to sign a petition against her deportation.
"Returning to Nigeria is not an option for me, because as well as a death sentence hanging over me, I will face 14 years in prison due to the anti-gay law that was passed by the Nigerian Government in January 2014. I want to remain in the UK in order to contribute positively to the society and support my girlfriend, who I am now engaged to," Adejumoke said in a YouTube video.

Dear LIB readers: Should I sell my baby?

Posted: 30 Mar 2014 11:11 PM PDT

From a female LIB reader
I am a 27 year old woman. I have been married to my husband for 2 years now and we are expecting a baby. At first, he was very happy about. Now that I am 6 months gone, he tells me that his boss, who has been married for 7 years with no child wants our baby. He said he will give us 10 million for the baby. The offer is very tempting as my husband and I are not very well to do. The money will change our lives. I know I can always give birth to another one.I really do not want to "sell" my baby, but my husband really needs the money. What should I do?

Women in revealing clothes deserve to be raped - says a poll in Brazil

Posted: 30 Mar 2014 02:57 PM PDT

According to a report by AFP, a poll in Brazil says a woman who shows off her body deserves to be raped. We are talking about Brazil, the land of samba, voluptuous carnival dancers and mini bikinis.
Of the 3,810 respondents of both sexes who responded to the government's Institute of Applied Economic Research (IPEA) survey released last week, about 2,480 - 65% - justified raping women who wear "clothing that shows off the body."
And 58.5% of respondents also agreed that "if women knew how to behave, there would be fewer rapes."
This poll has triggered outrage in the country, especially when it was revealed that most of the poll's respondents - 66.5% - were women. So wait, it is okay to walk near-naked in a carnival, but not in real life? And women are the ones who believe this? There's absolutlely no excuse for rape! What do you guys think?

Leah Foundation fights cancer in Kwara

Posted: 30 Mar 2014 02:00 PM PDT

The Leah Charity Foundation, an Ilorin, Kwara State based non-governmental organisation has intensified its effort at reducing the incidence of breast and cervical cancers in women through a sensitisation of the women all over the state.

According to the Founding Trustee of the NGO, Mrs. Omolewa Ahmed, who addressed a press conference on the occasion of the World Cancer Day in February, the NGO has "unfolded a massive awareness campaign in every possible media outlets on cancer. There are jingles on radio & TV. We have also secured the collaboration of musical artistes in the state, who have recorded songs which will gain regular air play as a way to alerting our people to the menace of cancer." Continue...

In addition to this, the Foundation has embarked on sensitisation tours of the 16 local government areas in the state out of which it has covered ten at the moment.

Ahmed who is also the wife of the governor of Kwara State led thousands of volunteers on each of the tours where they visited traditional, religious and market leaders,  "explaining that the disease should no longer be treated as a death sentence or some wickedness imposed by fate. We inspire the hope that everyone in our communities would be his or her sister's keeper in the renewed war against cancer. We distribute information and educational materials to sensitise Kwarans on the need to embrace voluntary screening and avoid predisposing factors to cancer some of which are habits like alcohol, smoking and lack of exercises."

To make access easier for women, the organisation has established three screening centres situated at the Adewole Cottage Hospital and Children Specialist Hospital, Centre- Igboro and the Sobi Specialist Hospital while efforts are on to provide more centres across the state.  It has also gone further to establish the Leah Cancer Centre, an ultra-modern facility that provides full blown medical services from counselling to screening and treatment for women within and outside Kwara State. Ahmed said that her organisation is working towards being able to provide every possible form of treatment at the cancer centre although at the moment, the facility has the best equipment to nip cervical cancer in the bud.

She had appealed to women to take advantage of the ultra-modern equipment at the GRA, Ilorin based cancer centre for screening of both breast and cervix at a very highly subsidized rate of N200 (two hundred naira only). The sum of N200, according to Mrs Ahmed, was fixed to take care of the disposables used for the screening. She added that efforts are on to improve the capacity of the centre to treat diagnosed cases.
