Diamond Bank fetes law students in special DiamondXtra draws

Posted: 24 Apr 2014 01:21 PM PDT

Diamond Bank PLC, a leading bank in the Nigerian retail banking space, has rewarded loyal customers of the DiamondXtra account in a special draw targeted at students of the Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island Campus, Lagos.

In his welcome address at the event, Mr. Osita Ede, Head, Mass Market Segment, Diamond Bank PLC, said the draws were in line with the Bank's promise to add value to customers' lives, in this case, by giving them an exciting incentive to save. Continue...

According to him, "We hold the targeted draws for a cluster group, like the Law School where we have a significant number of students that Bank with us. When a cluster group meets our requirements we hold these draws to reward them for their loyalty as well as to encourage them to imbibe a savings culture.

"This particular draw is targeted at the mass market segment. This is our own way of encouraging more people to come into the banking system in line with the CBN target of financial inclusion and to bring more monies into the system instead of people hiding them under their pillows. We have been doing this for a while and it has been successful. We also try to follow up with our winners and offer them opportunities to invest their winnings profitably. However, they are not compelled to do anything but those who have responded have been successful and you will soon begin to hear their testimonials," he added.

Mr. David Otukpe, Product Manager, Savings Account, Diamond Bank Plc, said the choice of the Nigerian Law School was intended to reward customers within the school that had opened a DiamondXtra account in the last three weeks prior to the draw.

He said: "We are here to reward loyal customers of the DiamondXtra account and hope that this reward scheme will inspire others to join the Diamond Bank family. The DiamondXtra account is a Savings Account with Current Account benefits. More than three thousand customers have been rewarded with cash prices since the inception of the scheme."

An elated winner in the N100, 000 category, Frances Okoro, said: "I woke up this morning and asked God for favour. All through today I've been walking around praying silently for favour. As I was coming here, an inner voice questioned my decision to come witness the draws and I responded that I had faith that I was going to win something. I am so happy. Thank you Father."
Other winners include: Manley ChinemAgbegbe, with N100,000 prize money; Rosemary BogofanyoIriakuma, Tolulope Omobolaji Johnson, Ethel Nwahachie, ChristainOsemudiameOrukpe, Nancy UjunwaIreh and James NwokpopoNwebonyi, all of whom won in the N50,000 category.

DiamondXtra account is a special savings account designed for individuals who want to build up their savings gradually. It is a simple and straightforward interest-yielding account that allows the deposit of both cash and third party cheques. In addition, DiamondXtra account holders receive a cheque book and an ATM card with which they can withdraw from their accounts at any Diamond Bank branch. Minimum opening amount is N5,000 which also automatically qualifies the account holder for the draws.

Diamond Bank is currently executing the longest running reward scheme in Nigeria, called the DiamondXtra Reward Scheme. Draws are held weekly (every Friday), monthly (every last Friday of the Month) and to mark special occasions as determined by the Bank.

The Draws are monitored by renowned accounting firm -KPMG, the Nigerian Lottery Regulatory Commission and Consumer Protection Council.

Oprah's step-mum starting sumtin...calls Oprah's relationship with Gayle bizarre

Posted: 24 Apr 2014 10:09 AM PDT

Well, Oprah recently got a court order to remove her from her mansion leaving her homeless so she's looking for ways to get back at the billionaire by talking to the press and spilling family secrets. In a recent interview with UK Daily Mail, Barbara Vernon, 66, who was married to Oprah's dad for 14 years, claims that Oprah's relationship with bff Gayle King was bizarre. She's implying that there's more going on between them despite the fact that Oprah has had a man in her life in the last 28 years

Oprah began dating Stedman Graham in 1986 but, according to Barbara, who is now divorced from Oprah's dad, in all the times she saw them together she never once witnessed them hold hands or kiss.
'Once Oprah took us on a Mediterranean cruise. That was an amazing thing she did. She rented a $30million yacht and went on an 11-day cruise. She's very flamboyant. We had meals three times a day, three courses, different place settings, different cutlery, glassware, different everything three times a day but she never talked to me and Vernon. She didn't spend any time with us. It was always her, Stedman and Gayle. The three of them. Anytime you looked up they were together. To me it was just bizarre. I can only say what I saw and observed over the years. Gayle was more present than Stedman."
From UK Daily Mail
Oprah's relationships with Stedman & Gayle have long been the subject of much puzzled speculation.
Barbara said; 'He was comfortable like an old shoe, to her. They stayed in the same room when they were here but he didn't live with her exactly. He travels so much; he would fly here and there to her. He's at her beck and call. I think in the beginning it was different. Vernon told me how one time he was driving and Oprah was taking Stedman to meet family in Mississippi. He said she was running her hands through his hair the whole trip, till he was so fed up he was ready to put her out of the car.
'She wanted to get married at first but he wasn't so keen. Then she became this powerful person and things changed, the balance switched.'
Nowhere could that be clearer than on the occasion when, according to Barbara, Oprah ensured a book written by Stedman made it onto the bestseller list.

She claimed that the star bought a warehouse and filled it with Stedman's books.
'It worked,' she said, 'His book was a bestseller. Stedman isn't a good steward of money and that suits Oprah fine. He is financially dependent on her. He knows her secrets and she knows his. Why would they marry now? He's there at her beck and call. He knows his role in her life.'
And just as importantly he understands Gayle's role in Oprah's life. Barbara said.

'Gayle is very, very present. I don't know any man I've ever dated who could tolerate that, but Stedman knows Gayle's going nowhere. They speak on the phone three or four times a day. She believes Oprah and Gayle's relationship is 'unhealthy'.

Frequently, she said, Oprah's communications to her or Vernon, now 81, were delivered through Gayle. When notorious biographer Kitty Kelly was working on a book about Oprah and interviewed her father in his barber's shop it was Gayle who called to berate first Barbara, then Vernon.
And when Oprah spoke of herself as part of a couple, the 'we' in question more often referred to her and Gayle, than her and Stedman.
Barbara said: 'The day I called to tell her that her father had been held up at gunpoint in his barber's shop her response was, "Well, I expect him to be found dead in there one day."

'I asked her why she would say something so cold, she said, "Coz it's true. Gayle and I have already discussed it and we've accepted that."
'That's how it was with them.

'Sometimes I believe that Oprah is more dependent on Gayle than the other way round. I don't know what she would do without her friendship and if it's not more than friendship then they're certainly giving every appearance that it is.

'But don't forget, Oprah has her brand to live up to and her father is a very conservative, traditional man. He's a deacon of his church. He always thought she should get married.'
Oprah's highly public, lifelong struggle with her wildly fluctuating weight, is linked to her effort to 'be' the brand according to Barbara.

She said, 'She's a stress eater. Food is her comfort. Potatoes are her downfall, potatoes, potato chips…any kind of potato.
'But you rarely saw Oprah fix a plate of food and eat it at the table with everybody else.
'If she joined you she would pick at other people's plates. If she saw something she wanted she'd just take it straight off their plate and wouldn't even ask.'

The star would frequently instruct Stedman to make a doggy bag of food to take away rather than enjoy it in company.
She reflected, 'Nobody can live up to being Oprah. She's human like I'm human. She's not perfect.'

Given her unenviable position today it might seem surprising to hear Barbara express sympathy for Oprah, yet she does, repeatedly.
'She tells the world what to do but she's in inner turmoil. Everybody thinks she has all the answers but she needs to sit down with Dr Phil.'

She continued, 'Vernon often told me that he thought if Oprah could change the color of her skin she would  - she'd make it lighter.'

Barbara recalled an occasion on which she, Oprah and Stedman had been out walking their dogs, Solomon, a brown cocker spaniel and Sophie, a black dog of the same breed.
'I told her it suddenly struck me how she looked like Sophie and he looked like Solomon – like owners come to resemble their dogs. Oprah said, "No. I look more like Solomon. HE looks more like Sophie." I hadn't meant it to be a slight about color but that's how she took it.'
It's hard to believe Barbara made the remark in wide-eyed innocence, oblivious to the fact that telling your stepdaughter she looks like a dog might be taken as a slight.

Still, she insisted, 'Color was a real thing for her. It's one of the things she liked about Stedman. He has what we call 'high yellow' skin and soft hair. He's very pale complexioned and she liked that.'
The cover of next month's edition of her eponymous magazine, 'O: The Oprah Magazine' shows the star, resplendent in Purple alongside the promise, 'How to Love the Skin You're In', but according to Barbara, that is something Oprah herself has never quite managed to achieve.

That unhappiness plays a part, she said, in the bitter denouement of her divorce from Vernon. It explains, to some extent, Oprah's need to insert and assert herself in any of it.
She said, 'She's a billionaire three times over, doesn't it seem so petty?
'If I could I'd like to tell her how sad it is she never took the time to get to know me as a woman. I would still be married to Vernon I think, if she had.
'To me it's just such a sad story at the end of the day.'

Boko Haram threatens to kill abducted girls if search is not stopped

Posted: 24 Apr 2014 08:29 AM PDT

Boko Haram men have threatened to kill the school girls they abducted in the early hours of April 15th if the search for them continues. This is after some Borno women under the auspices of BAOBAB Women's Right said they are planning to storm the Sambisa forest where the abducted girls are believed to be held.

The women said since efforts by the military to rescue the girls haven't worked so far, it was time for them to take matters into their hands as concerned mothers.

The Spokesperson for the group, Professor Hauwa Biu, told newsmen
"We are ready to go into the forest and search for the girls. In fact, we are prepared to risk our lives and get up to Boko Haram camp and appeal to them to release the children to us so that they can re unite with their parents. There is nothing extraordinary in our quest to enter the dangerous forest. We learnt that some men in Chibok had earlier embarked on such mission, which later turned out to be fruitless. We felt that as mothers, we are in a better position to have the sympathy and concern over the fate of the missing girls. Our target is not to fight the abductors, but we want to beg them to release the girls in the name of the God that we all worship."

Actress Jodie Foster marries Ellen DeGeneres' ex-girlfriend

Posted: 24 Apr 2014 05:46 AM PDT

In 2014, women marry women. I'm sure one would have been stoned to death if one had suggested it many centuries ago. I find woman and woman coupling weirder than man and man...maybe because men have that and that that allows them enjoy themselves, but women only have that, so how do they...? #Rhetoricalquestion...:-)

Anyway, actress Jodie Foster, 51, has married talk show host Ellen Degeneres' ex girlfriend, 44 year old photographer, Alexandra Hedison. Foster's rep confirmed to E Online yesterday.
"The couple said their vows over the weekend. They're totally in love,' a source told E!.

Oh no! Chris Brown to be locked up till June as his trial is delayed

Posted: 24 Apr 2014 03:02 AM PDT

This is what they call witch hunting..lol. When people say someone in your village is doing you, this is what it looks like. They're doing whatever they can to break him. Now feeling really sorry for him. Chris Brown will stay in jail until June after his D.C assault trial was delayed for months. His lawyer applied for bail yesterday but a judge in L.A turned him down.

His trial was supposed to start yesterday April 23rd but was delayed because his bodyguard, Chris Hollosy, who has already been found guilty of assault, wanted immunity to testify on Chris' behalf, saying that he and not Chris punched the fan. But he wasn't granted immunity and so he is refusing to testify while he appeals his verdict. Chris Brown's trial is now on hold until after Hollosy's appeal concludes...and this will take months. Chris Brown faces up to four years in prison if found guilty.

The singer reportedly broke down in court when he was told his bail application was denied. Now he's being sent back to California on Con-Air in chains to await his trial date. Hang in there, Chris!

Dear LIB readers: What does it mean when you have constant sex in dreams?

Posted: 24 Apr 2014 02:53 AM PDT

From a female LIB reader
This might sound unbelievable but it's the truth. I'm a 29 year old civil servant and I've been having sex in my dreams for years now.
There is a man who constantly has sex with me in the dream. When I say good sex I mean great sex. Goes down on me. Kisses me passionately and does all sort of things one can't even imagine and I wake up wet in real life.
He appears only in the afternoon whenever I take naps, never at night  and this happens every single time I close my eyes at noon. The scary thing is that every time I try to look at his face he changes to either my brother, father, cousins or even my co workers.
I've had sex with men in real life but not as good as this man in my dreams. Look libers this might sound crazy but the truth is I began to enjoy the sex.
So Last week I casually told a man of God about it and he shouted and started to panic, he then told me that  I have a spiritual husband and that I have to come for spiritual cleansing which means  casting the demon out of me.
Come to think of it, I've never had any serious relationship in my entire life. Men never call me back for some reason and the ones that did were never serious with me.
I'm scared to start a spiritual battle. I'm not strong in my faith. I dont have strength to cast and bind. Not been to church in 5years.  I'm afraid the spiritual battle might take my life
Pls can libers interpret this constant dreams for me and advice me about the battle. Should I go ahead?  I'm too scared, I don't want to die.
I know Some people might not believe this story but the few people who do pls I beg u with the name of God. Help me.

Even a man of God is being accused of battery? Wow! The estranged wife of the pastor of Mountain of Liberation Miracles Ministires, Dr. Chris Okafor, has accused him of beating her up at their home in Magodo, Lagos, Punch reports.

Bessem Okafor, who has been separated from Dr Okafor for two years and lives apart from him, said she had gone to her former marital home a few weeks ago to visit her four kids who were in the custody of their father when trouble started.

Bessem told Punch
"I have not seen my children for nine months and our lawyers agreed that I could come see them at home after school hours by 5pm. I went to the house at the appointed time, but my children were not there. I had to wait outside in the compound until 10pm before my husband arrived; the children were not with him. They were later brought home by the driver about 12am. By then it was clear I couldn't leave again, I had to spend the night. Continue...
The following morning, I bathed and dressed them for school. They pleaded with me to stay back until they returned and since I hardly spent time with them the day before, I agreed."
A few hours after her children had left for school, Bessem received a phone call from Chris who had also left the house. He allegedly questioned her presence in the house and ordered her to leave.
When Bessem insisted on staying till her children returned from school, Chris allegedly sent a policeman who was part of his entourage to the house.

She said,
"The policeman told me to leave the house. At that time, I was wearing only my dress. I had washed my undies and spread them to dry since I didn't come with extra. I told the policeman that I would leave after my children returned from school. Later, Chris came in and on seeing me, he started beating me and dragged me out of the house."
She said some policemen came to arrest her, but could not go with them because her clothes were torn. The following day after making a complaint of assault at the Isheri Police Division, she was hospitalised at the Solid Rock Hospital, in the Ojodu/Berger area.

A copy of her medical report made available to Punch said Bessem was brought in for treatment after a brawl with her spouse.
It reads in part,
"Examination revealed a middle aged woman in distress with multiple bruises, BP 140/80mmhg and pulse rate 104bpm. There was inflammation around the left knee and tenderness along the spine. She was subsequently admitted, placed on intravenous fluids and managed as case of multiple trauma secondary to domestic violence."
The report was signed by one Dr. Ametepee T. M.
Chris, when contacted, did not respond to calls and a text message to his phone. However, Chris lawyer, Ubani, said,
"Bessem has made all sorts of allegations against her husband,  but what she has failed to tell you is that she left her marriage of her own volition. She ended her marriage with her infidelity. She would leave her house, come back at late hours and would not tell her husband where she has been.
"The couple are already in court for divorce. This particular incident you are asking about, it was Bessem who tore her own clothes. Chris never laid a hand on her. Why did she not get a medical report from a government hospital?
"If she was truly assaulted she would have gone to the station to make a report. Then they would give her a paper to take to a public hospital. That of the private hospital is not admissible in court. Chris never refused her access to her children; they were simply brought to the church because his mother and cousin were not at home. After bringing some policemen from Isheri to arrest Chris while he was at the pulpit, she still went ahead to Zone 2 to make another report."
The PPRO Zone 2, SP Lewi Suleimann, when contacted said, "We are still waiting to get the file transferred from the Isheri Police Station. I would not like to comment much before we get the file."
