Aww, read how 2 Nigerians found love in the comment section of UK Guardian Posted: 01 Apr 2014 10:15 AM PDT Let me give y'all the brief history. Remi Adekoya (pictured above) is a Nigerian writer with the UK Guardian. In May 2013, he wrote an article titled 'Goodluck Jonathan's report card for Nigeria? Must try harder'. A young lady named Sede Alonge (pictured above with Remi) based in Nigeria dropped a comment on the article which spurred a back and forth conversation between both of them on the newspaper's online discussion forum. About a year later, (They have since met physically) Sede Alonge and Remi Adekoya are engaged and planning to get married this year. Now, how romantic is that? Hmmm...and see me o, I've been online and blogging for seven years o. God dey sha! Lol. Continue to read Sede's article which was published on UK Guardian today about how she met the love of her life on an online forum... How my below-the-line adventure led me up the aisle - By Sede Alonge My interest in news and current affairs took an unexpected and life-changing twist in the comments section of a Comment is free piece Looking back, following the news was a habit I subconsciously acquired from my mother. I remember how, in the evenings after supper, the family would sit in the living room talking, and before long someone would switch on the TV. Most of us preferred to watch light entertainment – a movie or something similar – but invariably, my mother would plead with us to watch the news, leading to sharp protests, frustrated groans and ultimately the rest of us slowly filing out to our bedrooms. We hated having to watch the news, something we generally believed to be drab. Perhaps, if it had been just one episode, we would have endured "knowing about events happening around us", as mother would put it. But she insisted on watching re-runs, back to back, and on all the different available channels. We hated the fact that our mother tirelessly watched the news as if she was some kind of analyst. It didn't matter to her that she often dozed off in her armchair, midway through stories that had in all likelihood lulled her to sleep with their boring, repetitive drone. The most annoying part of it all was that if anyone attempted to change the channel, she always woke up. So it was ironic that, years later when newspapers began to publish their contents online, I became something of a news lover myself. The fascination was stirred during my postgraduate days at university, when I would scour the internet for articles in support of my course work; I was usually the one with a random news article to back up an argument, brandishing a link or even a printed page. The internet home page on my laptop became a news website. The absorption continued post graduation, but I was unaware how addicted I was to browsing news websites until a house mate commented on the weirdness of my habit. She had stumbled upon my homepage, and said it was the oddest thing she'd ever come across (unsurprising, as she much preferred tabloid gossips and the like). She simply couldn't get my "news fix" being the first thing I needed whenever I switched on my laptop. When the cyberworld shrunk even smaller and was able to fit into our palms I transferred the habit on to my phone, savouring news even more frequently than before. If I had given it much thought I would have said it was nothing more than a time filler; something to do when a reading distraction was needed. So when one day I found myself reading and commenting on a Cif article on a subject I would not have usually found interesting, I could not have imagined the events it would precipitate. Before long, the author of the article and I became engaged in a chain of discussion in the comments section – also something totally uncharacteristic of me. We eventually moved it elsewhere, discovering mutual interests and a growing attraction for each other along the way. In retrospect, commenting on that article was the best chance decision I'd ever made. Soon, nearly every minute – both day and night – was spent in endless discussions of topics, ranging from the serious to the mundane. Despite the fact we lived thousands of miles from each other, we inexorably felt closer than our physical space permitted us. And when we finally met in person, it couldn't have felt better and stronger. Nearly one year later we are engaged and planning on tying the knot – and it all still feels absolutely amazing, surreal, and increasingly beautiful by the day. It also made me realise the truth of the saying that we find things when we are not looking for them. And to think I didn't have to go through the rigours of sorting through Guardian Soulmates (just kidding, but true) to find my "one". Thank you, Guardian, for bringing me my perfect soulmate. |

Speaking about the involvement of GLEEHD Foundation; Dayo Israel said "it is imperative that as the Commonwealth and the United Kingdom celebrates the Centenary of World War 1 and this year's commonwealth Day observance, that it should also celebrate the centenary of the almagation of the southern and northern Nigeria – a British product led initiated by Lord Lugard, it is on this premise that we have collaborated with the Commonwealth Democracy Initiative and Rostra Consulting to put Nigeria on the map during this symbolic week in the commonwealth and also to help foster a renewed commitment in the UK-Nigeria economic relationship." All indicators are there, no perfect country but many opportunities… Nigeria ought to get first preference from the British investors especially because of our ties and the advantage of language etc but Britain is losing out to the Asian tigers, its high time Britain reconnect to Nigeria economically." The event also featured some High Level Trade and Investment Meetings organised by GLEEHD Foundation for the Government and Business Leaders from Nigeria including a High Powered Trade Meeting with Former UK Ambassador for Global Trade and Investment, and 3rd Child of Queen Elizabeth – Prince Andrew the Duke of York at Buckingham Palace; as well as a meeting with the leadership of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Entrepreneurship at the UK House of Lords. Helicopters drop food items, arms for Boko Haram members - Yobe elders say Posted: 01 Apr 2014 07:23 AM PDT Former Minister of Finance, Mallam Adamu Ciroma; former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Ambassador Babagana Kingibe; elder statesman, Shetima Mustapha and other political leaders from Yobe and Borno state yesterday held a press conference in Abuja where they revealed that members of the Islamic sect were being supplied food, medicine and arms with helicopters and wondered why security agents and the state governments have kept mum on this fact. The elders who met under the umbrella of "Borno Yobe Peoples Forum" wondered why the 20-hilux car convoys of Boko Haram members can move freely and execute their plans without being intercepted by security men who are supposed to monitor movement even with the curfew both states are placed on right now. They also asked the government to tell Nigerians who directed security officials to leave the Federal Government College, Buni Yadi in Yobe State few hours before the sect members attacked and killed 59 young students last month. Hmmm...continue... Air Vice Marshal Al-amin Daggash, a former Chief of Air Staff, who spoke on behalf of other elders said
The elders asked that the State of Emergency that the three Northeast states, Yobe, Adamawa and Borno, are currently experiencing should not be extended as it has failed to achieve the purpose for which it was first enforced. According to Daggash, 17,000 people have been killed with over 3million people displaced this year. |

SSS accuses CBN Governor, Sanusi Lamido, of financing terrorism Posted: 01 Apr 2014 03:37 AM PDT .And now the SSS is accusing suspended CBN governor Sansui Lamido Sanusi of financing terrorism in Nigeria. Premium Times reports A new twist has been added to the ongoing travails of the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Lamido Sanusi, as the Department of State Security Service, SSS, has accused him of financing terrorism. The SSS stated this at the Federal High Court, Lagos, while defending its decision to seize Mr. Sanusi's international passport.Mr. Sanusi's passport was seized on February 20, as he arrived the Lagos international airport, hours after he was suspended as Central Bank Governor by President Goodluck Jonathan. The new charge, which Mr. Sanusi's lawyers described as false and baseless, tallies with a similar surreptitious but baseless allegation thrown at the bank chief by a presidential aide. Reno Omokri, the Special Assistant to the President on New Media, had, on February 26, used a pseudonym, Wendell Simlin, to circulate an article that tried to link the recent spike in Boko Haram attack to the suspension of the CBN governor. The embattled CBN chief was controversially suspended by the president based on allegations of 'financial recklessness' by the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, FRCN. Several investigative reports by PREMIUM TIMES had shown that Mr. Sanusi indeed approved some interventionist spendings from CBN funds, but he did so with adequate approval from the board of his bank and President Goodluck Jonathan. Mr. Sanusi, in separate suits, challenged his suspension, and asked for an enforcement of his fundamental rights as enshrined in the Nigerian constitution. During the hearing of the rights' suit, which continued on Monday, the respondents – the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF; the Police; and the SSS – made different claims. Sanusi sponsors terrorism The fresh terrorism-related allegation against Mr. Sanusi came from the SSS. The agency said it was investigating Mr. Sanusi for allegedly financing terrorism. The SSS counsel, Moses Idakwo, said Mr. Sanusi's interaction with SSS officials did not last for up to an hour and did not constitute a violation of his rights. He said the provisions of Section 6 of the National Security Agencies' Act empowered the Service to impound the international passport of suspects pending the conclusion of investigations. It is not clear how this fresh allegation by the SSS is related to the dubious claims by Mr. Omokri. PREMIUM TIMES and a few citizen journalists had exposed how Mr. Omokri, using a non-existent alias, Wendell Simlin, created a document linking Mr. Sanusi with financing the terrorist Boko Haram group. The document was later shown to have been created by Mr. Omokri, with several Nigerians calling for his sack. The presidency has kept mum since the scandal was exposed. On Monday, however, Mr. Sanusi's counsel, Kola Awodehin, accused the SSS of falsehood in its new claim against the bank chief, saying the agency had no shred of evidence. Dismiss Sanusi's suit The counsel to the AGF, Fabian Ajogwu, had objected to the suit, urging the court to strike it out for want of jurisdiction. Mr. Ajogwu argued that the provisions of Section 254 (c) 1 (d) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) ousted the court's jurisdiction to entertain the suit. He noted that the case before the court borders on the applicant's employment, saying that labour -related cases are within the exclusive jurisdiction of the National Industrial Court, NIC. "Section 254 (c) 1 (d) of the Constitution vests exclusive jurisdiction on the National Industrial Court, with respect to civil causes or matters touching on employment, labour or industrial relations. "We respectfully urge the court to hold that it has no jurisdiction to entertain the reliefs sought by the applicant," he said. The counsel urged the court to strike out the suit. Mr. Ajogwu also argued that the applicant should not, by the suit, seek to restrain the respondents from performing their constitutional duties. He argued that Mr. Sanusi was being investigated based on the FRCN's claims. He said the suspended bank chief was being investigated in accordance with the provisions of the law, which the respondents had a statutory duty to perform. Citing the dictum of retired Justice Niki Tobi of the Supreme Court in the case of Adeniran vs Alao, Mr. Ajogwu submitted that a perpetual injunction would be everlasting and could not be granted by a court of law. "The applicant's suit is basically an action to shield him from the machinery of administration of justice, which has been kick-started by the respondents," Mr. Ajogwu submitted. Nobody reported Sanusi to us While the AGF said Mr. Sanusi was being investigated based on the FRCN investigations, the police said it was not investigating the CBN boss. The counsel to the police, David Abuo, said nobody ever reported Mr. Sanusi to the police. He, however aligned with Mr. Ajogwu, saying the case should be struck out as it seeks to bar government agencies from performing their duties. Sanusi reacts Responding to the respondents' preliminary objection, Mr. Awodehin submitted that the court was vested with the jurisdiction to entertain the suit. He argued that the suit had nothing to do with the terms of employment of the applicant or industrial relations, since it was not a case of the applicant against the Central Bank of Nigeria. He argued that the applicant never sought an order of perpetual injunction, adding that the reliefs he sought were qualified. "It cannot be suggested that the applicant is restraining the respondents from performing their duties, but they must be restrained from doing so without due process of the law. "The seizure of the applicant's international passport by the third respondent is a derogation of his freedom of movement," he said. Mr. Awodehin also argued that the different submissions by the three respondents showed that laws were being violated in Mr. Sanusi's treatment. "The first to third respondents give conflicting reasons as to the complaint made against the applicant. "This conflict goes to show that they acted without due process of the law," he said. The counsel also argued that the SSS' claim of financing terrorism was bogus. "The allegation against the applicant as to funding of terrorism is an afterthought by the respondents which is not backed by facts, as there is no reasonable suspicion that the applicant committed any crime," he said. He urged the court to dismiss the preliminary objection and uphold the case of the applicant. The court had on February 21 granted an interim order, restraining the respondents from arresting, detaining, or harassing the applicant pending the determination of the substantive suit. The interim order was sequel to an affidavit of urgency filed by the applicant on the same date. On Monday, the court adjourned ruling on the preliminary objection to April 4. |

Dear LIB men; tell the truth, would you say yes to this proposition? Posted: 31 Mar 2014 11:24 PM PDT If you're going to answer this question, please answer sincerely. Answer anonymously so no one knows it's you but please do answer sincerely. In the last few days, I've asked a few guys this question...and to tell you the truth, I was astonished by the answers I got. So I decided to bring it here to see what other guys will say. Something similar actually happened to someone I know. Here's the question. You're straight. You've never fantasized about being with a man, in fact you're quite homophobic and don't understand the concept of homosexuality. Then a rich gay guy approaches you. OK, pause. If you're rich or even very comfortable, then this question is not for you. I'm talking about broke, student, down and out and in need of money...that kind of scenario etc. So this rich gay man propositions you. Have sex with him with you being the top (find out what that means on Google..lol) no one will ever find out and you will get N2million. How many of you straight men here (saying gays must be jailed..lol) will say yes? Be anonymous. Be sincere. The rest of you will probably be shocked by the answers...or maybe not...:-). Let's hear it! |
