#Bringbackourgirls group matched to the Ministry of Education in Abuja today to protest the deaths of 47 students of the Govt Science Secondary school who were killed in a bomb attack by a Boko Haram member last week Monday.

The Obamas' White House garden harvests sweet potatoes for the first time

For those who don't know, some American presidents have had the opportunity to have their own gardens within the White House though some didn't grow gardens, but Eleanor Roosevelt, Clinton and now, the Obama's have their gardens in the White House.

Michelle Obama started her own garden, which is the biggest White House kitchen garden so far, when her daughters Malia and Sasha were not receiving nutritious meals. They had been eating out a lot and the family's pediatrician recommended a diet change. This was revealed in Michelle Obama's book entitled "American Grown: The story of the White House Kitchen Garden".

This year, the  kitchen garden, as it is called, for the first time included orange sweet potato, a root vegetable that is rich in vitamin A that most Nigerians and Africans are conversant with. The sweet potato was chosen to highlight its role in improving the nutrition and health of millions of children and women throughout Sub-Saharan Africa by providing this essential nutrient.

Under First Lady Michelle Obama, the White House kitchen garden has been expanded and reinvigorated to include a wide range of herbs, fruits, and vegetables. It serves to educate people, especially children, on the importance of good nutrition and the role that vegetables and fruits can play in improving health. The sweet potatoes that were planted in the garden were provided by North Carolina State University (NCSU) and include Covington, a variety developed at NCSU, and Beauregard, a variety developed at Louisiana State University.

Sierra Leone doctor brought to the US for Ebola treatment dies

A surgeon from Sierra Leone who was being treated for Ebola in the US died this morning November 17th in a hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, aged 44.

Late Dr Martin Salia who had US residency and was married to an American, arrived for treatment in the state on Saturday November 15th in a critical condition after leaving Freetown by air ambulance.
"We are extremely sorry to announce that the third patient we've cared for with the Ebola virus, Dr Martin Salia, has passed away as a result of the advanced symptoms of the disease." the Nebraska Medical Center said in a statement.

Femi Fani-Kayode discharged and acquitted of money laundering

A Federal High court sitting in Lagos this morning discharged& acquitted former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode of 38 out of the 40 amended count charge of money laundering brought against him by the EFCC in 2008.

Delivering her judgement, the presiding judge, Justice Rita Ofili Ajumogobia, said that EFCC had not provided any evidence that proved that the former minister had in anyway laundered money through fictitious business transactions. According to her, the prosecution had failed woefully in proving that he was guilt in all the 38 count charge brought against him.
She went further to say that all the witnesses provided by the prosecution since the trial started had not provided any evidence to prove that the former Minister had any business dealings with them.
 
Consequently she discharged and acquitted him of 38 count charges but however instructed him to enter a defence against the two other charges counts. The case was adjourned till December 8th.

A 300level student of Bells University of Technology in Ota, Ogun state named Ruth Idahosa died around 2am this morning after suffering an Asthma attack late last night which led to her hitting her head.

According to her friends, Ruth had the attack while eating, causing her to choke and lose balance, leading to her falling and hitting her head on the ground. She bled.

The students around her said they called the university ambulance but there was no answer. They were left with no choice than to use a hairdresser's vehicle to lift the unconscious girl to the clinic.
"As usual, the incompetent nurses and staff of the clinic started to delay. Then the worst came - she passed on." her friend said. So sad! May her soul rest in peace..amen.

FG approves extention of state of emergency rule in Adamawa, Yobe and Borno states

The Federal Government has approved the extension of state of emergency rule in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States, the three states that have recorded the highest cases of Boko Haram attacks.

The decision to extend the emergency rule for the third time was taken at the National Defence Council meeting which was presided over by President Jonathan earlier today at the presidential villa Abuja.



Briefing state house correspondents after the meeting, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Muhammed Adoke said the decision of the council will be communicated to the National Assembly for approval.

The first state of Emergency rule was imposed on the states in May 2013 and has been extended twice since then.

Miss Honduras 2014 vanishes days before trip to UK for Miss World pageant

Miss Honduras 2014 Maria Jose Alvarado (pictured above) has been missing since last Thursday Nov 13th. Maria, 19, who was due to fly to London this past Sunday to join other contestants for the 2014 Miss World pageant, vanished along with her sister, Sofia, after attending a friend's party that Thursday night in Santa Barbara, Honduras. The two sisters have not been seen or heard from after they said goodbye to other friends at the party.



Four people, including Sofia's sister (the sisters pictured above), the owner of the venue the party held have so far been arrested as they were the last people to see them alive. But the men deny any involvement in their disappearance.

Pedro Sula city in Honduras, which is very close to Santa Barbara, is the murder capital of the world with more than 1,200 killings a year among its one millions inhabitants.

The Nigerian arts & culture community came together to celebrate the 10th anniversary of leading arts & cultural institution, Terra Kulture. The event which took place at the prestigious Eko Hotel & Towers on Friday, November 7, 2014, saw a gathering of industry leaders, government officials, and art lovers & patrons who lauded the achievements of Terra Kulture and its founder Bolanle Austen-Peters, in nurturing and promoting Nigerian arts & culture. 


The night's activities provided a platform for a host of dignitaries and distinguished personalities such as Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Olusegun Aganga; art patron, Prince Yemisi Shyllon; Mr. Mutiu Sumonu, MD, Shell Petroleum; Hebert Wigwe, MD Access Bank; Lagos-based lawyer, Mr. Femi Lijadu; as well as activist and former Education Minister, Oby Ezekwesili, among others to shower accolades on the successes that Terra Kulture has attained in just one decade. The event was largely made up of speeches from the distinguished guests reminiscing on the early days of Terra Kulture, punctuated by a slew of memorable classical performances from artistes such as classical singer Olumide Dada who kick-started an upward trend with his wonderful rendition of the National Anthem and revered singer Yinka Davies, among others.


Guests at the event were also treated to a special anniversary documentary, produced by BAP Productions and Kunle Afolayan-led Golden Effect, which featured Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka; culture administrator and former National Theatre boss, Prof. Ahmed Yerima; one time Chairman of Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA), Lagos State Chapter Olu Ajayi; art collector and founder of OYASAF, Prince Yemisi Shyllon; foremost fashion designer, Deola Sagoe; Nollywood star, Joke Silva; master printmaker, Dr Bruce Onobrakpeya; and metal artist, Fidelis Odogwu among others giving testimonies about the contribution of the centre to the growth and appreciation of cultural and artistic exploits in the country.


Among the memorable speeches given that night was the one by Terra Kulture founder Bolanle Austen Peters, who recalled how she rallied her family, friends and associates to fund the dream that became Terra Kulture. Also highlighted was the crucial role played by the former Managing Director of GT Bank, the late Mr. Tayo Aderinokun, by making the bank a partner in Terra Kulture's growth. His memory was honored with a posthumous award as a founding member of Terra Kulture, which was received by his widow. Terra's long-serving staff – Ibrahim Kuta, Muhammed Goni, Rasheed Adeleye and Temitope Sanya, got awards for their dedication and long service to the organization.


The night's activity was eventually capped off with the unveiling of Access Bank PLC, as Terra Kulture's new partner, in line with the bank's commitment to the promotion of Arts and Culture and women-owned businesses. While a new drama by Bolanle Austen-Peters Productions – Full Circle – was premiered, Access Bank's MD Hebert Wigwe congratulated Terra Kulture and saluted the founder for daring to invest in the art and culture sector, from which many shy away. He described her as an ambassador of arts and culture.

A horny couple was filmed by an on-looker having sex at the popular Bluewater shopping complex car park in Kent, UK, last week. Kent's official twitter handle @Kent_999s said the man and woman started off by kissing and before they knew what was going on, the man pulled down the woman's jeans and they started having sex right there while leaning against a black Citroen car.

The guy who took the photo shared them on Kent's Twitter page and explained what he'd just witnessed. Of course, it got a lot of re-tweets...and the attention of police. Emir of Kano, Sanusi, advises Nigerians to arm themselves against Boko Haram

Former CBN governor and Emir of Kano, Muhammed Sanusi has advised Nigerians who are constantly faced with attacks from Boko Haram members, to arm themselves against further attacks from the sect. According to BBC, the respected ruler said this at a prayer meeting last Friday.
"These terrorists slaughter our boys and abduct our girls to force them into slavery. People should not be afraid of them because of the recent success they seem to have achieved. People should not sit idle and say prayer is the only solution. People should be made aware of the importance of being in a state of preparedness and make sure they acquire what they need to protect themselves. People must not assume that the crisis will not reach their area. If it comes, we are asking God to give us fortitude, but if He wishes to take martyrs from amongst us, we should be ready to give our lives." he said.

Gov. Fayose accused of giving N200m contract to his blood brother

The APC in in Ekiti State has accused Governor Ayo Fayose of awarding a contract of repainting the Ekiti State Governor's Office to his 'blood brother' at the cost of N200m.

The APC alleged that Gov. Fayose asked for marble to be put in front of the Government House, something they claim he'd earlier condemned as being too expensive. 
 
In a statement by Ekiti State Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, yesterday Nov 16, APC said,
"To add salt to injury, artisans working on the marble are all brought from Ibadan when many Ekiti artisans could do the job. This is a man who claims to be a friend of the masses. He is repainting the Governor's Office awarded by direct labour at the cost of N200m to his blood brother." continue...
"He told the Permanent Secretary, General Administration Department and Head of Service to find an alternative entrance for civil servants who work within the Governor's Office building because he doesn't want to be meeting the workers while coming in through the main entrance. This has been effected as civil servants in the Governor's Office now pass through the back to their offices, yet this is the class of people he professed to be his friends before the election and he has also cancelled the appointment of eight permanent secretaries that were legally appointed after passing necessary examinations according to the service rules.'‎ they alleged

Top model Katerina Netolicka found dead in bathtub with her dogs

Top Czech Republic model, Katerina Netolicka, who was recently unveiled as the face of Prada and one time L'Oreal model was found dead in her home in Czech republic this past weekend.

The top model was found dead in her bathtub with two of her dogs, also dead, just two days after she turned 26 and celebrated with friends. Her brother who found her body said he was forced to go to her home and break down her door after she didn't pick her phone for two days. Continue...


Friends of the model who lived with her boyfriend (who was out of the country when she was found) said she suffered from depression and terrible mood swings. They said one minute she was happy, the next minute she was a totally different person...and that she used to self harm.

She lived in New York for many years after she started modeling in 2004. They haven't ruled her death a suicide but foul play is also not suspected.
