Here are some pictures and a statement by the Nigerian Defence Headquarters on the military action that reclaimed three towns in Adamawa state from Boko Haram on Monday November 16th. See the statement and more photos after the cut...


The pictures here are from the military operations in Gombi, Pelia and Hong in Adamawa State, where the Nigerian troops mercilessly dealt with the terrorists with the recovery of the towns as well as their destroyed vehicles, hideouts, weapons and ammunitions. While some of the terrorists have been captured alive others were killed in the operation. The Nigerian troops too could be seen in action.
The ongoing military operations in the North-Eastern Nigeria is to clear all areas infested by terrorists.
Mopping up exercise is ongoing in the areas while the troops are moving to other communities in what a top security officer described as 'Operation No Mercy against Terrorists."

Update: Miss Honduras 2014 was killed by her sister's boyfriend

The boyfriend of Sofia Trinidad, the older sister of 19 year old 2014 Miss Honduras, Maria Jose Alvarado, has been identified as the killer of the beauty queen and her sister.

Plutarco Ruiz (pictured right) admitted to gunning down Sofia, 23, after flying into a rage after seeing her dance with another man at his birthday party, where the girls were last seen alive and then turned the gun on Maria because she was a witness to the murder of her sister. Three other men have been arrested in connection with the murders.

After he killed the women, he and his accomplices buried them near a riverbank close to where the party was held.




Ruiz took police to where he buried the bodies in the mountainous region near the border with Guatemala. He told police that they dumped the bodies in graves to speed up decomposition.

Orji Uzor Kalu, Tony Elumelu Join Forbes List Of World's Richest

Forbes Magazine just published its annual ranking of Africa's 50 Richest People, and former Abia state governor and business man Orji Uzor Kalu and former MD of UBA Tony Elumelu are listed as billionaires. And Nigeria has also overtaken South Africa in the number of wealthiest.

According to Forbes, among the list of Africa's 50 Richest, Nigeria claims 13 spots while South Africa has 11 billionaires.
Africa's 50 richest are also wealthier than a year ago. Their combined net worth of $110.7billion is 6.7% more than in Nov. 2013. The minimum net worth needed to join this elite group rose to $510 million, up from $400 million a year ago."
There are three new billionaires on the list: Orji Uzor Kalu of Nigeria, Tony Elumelu of Nigeria and King Mohammed VI of Morocco." Forbes reports. See full list Here

Magrellos and Ketchup sign deal

Lagos based fast food chain Magrellos recently signed a partnership deal with dance-hall musician Ketchup in the company's quest to grow her brand.

Ketchup is now on the forefront of a new campaign for the fast food, tagged 'Ketchup on the Chips'. The deal was signed on Friday November 7, 2014 in their latest outlet in Festac, Lagos, and would see Ketchup's image used in Advertising, Communication and Marketing roles.


The singer rose to fame with his hit single "Show me your Rozay" in 2013.

Vogue editor Anna Wintour shades Kim K and Kanye West

White lady shade. They do it so subtly that you don't see it at first but if you read between the lines, you will see her drag her claws across Kim and Kanye's face. lol. When asked during a discussion at the Metropolitan Museum of Arts on Monday why she put Kanye and Kim K on the Vogue cover, Ms Wintour said it was 'not a tasteful choice' and admitted that she did it as a publicity stunt…
"I see the role of Vogue to reflect what's going on in the culture. The first celebrity that I put on the cover of Vogue was Madonna, and that was considered completely controversial at the time, too. It's such a long time ago probably no one remembers, but she was a very controversial figure. Now she's part of the establishment. I think if we just remain deeply tasteful and just put deeply tasteful people on the cover, it would be a rather boring magazine! Nobody would talk about us. It's very important that people do talk about us."
Ouch! This woman is not nice at all...:-). Vogue actually lost a lot of subscribers after the infamous Kimye cover so she's been explaining why she did it..

Boko Haram shoots Nigerian Army Brigade Commander during gun battle

According to Sahara Reporters, a Nigerian Army Brigade Commander simply identified as Colonel Popoola who is the acting Brigade Commander of 23rd brigade in Yola Adamawa state was shot in the shoulder on Monday November 17th during a gun battle to reclaim Hong and Gombi towns in Adamawa state from Boko Haram militants.

Colonel Popoola had led a team of soldiers drafted from Jos in a battle to reclaim the cities when he was shot in the shoulder. An army source said he has been transferred from the military hospital in Adamawa to the University College Hospital Ibadan where he will receive better treatment.


Meanwhile, four commanders who reportedly deserted their troop during the reclaiming operation have been arrested. The arrested soldiers include one Lieutenant Mohammed, the QRG commander of 234 battalion; 2nd Lieutenant UC Uche, Platoon commander of Bravo Company of the 234 battalion; Captain Lawal; and Lieutenant Buraji who is Mararaba platoon commander.

The four soldiers alongside one Captain Lawan were arrested yesterday and locked up inside the military police guardroom at the 23rd Brigade in Yola Adamawa state.

IK Osakioduwa launches new show - Highlites with IK

Journalist Seun Oloketuyi shared the story and graphic pic on his instagram page, sent to him by a friend of the victim. Below is what the friend said allegedly happened...
"Just left the hospital and it is worse than I thought. My good friend is in the hospital in Abuja now for four days with second degree burns. While he was sleeping his wife poured hot water on him (face legs, thighs, hips). She then locked him inside while he was screaming "fire, fire", then she took off. She is 5months pregnant they have a 16month old. Been married for a year and a half. Early in the year, she slapped him which lead to him beating her. They reconciled. He also complains that they switch house-help every month because she beats the househelp where there is blood on the wall. Should he stay or get the f out!!...- pissed off friend"

Update: Missing 2014 Miss Honduras and her sister found dead

I told y'all a few days ago that 19 year old beauty queen, Maria Jose Alvarado (pictured left), who is the current Miss Honduras disappeared along with her sister, Sofia (pictured right) after attending her sister's boyfriend's party on Thursday November 13th in Santa Barbara, Honduras. (Read here)

Well, the girls have been found...unfortunately they were found dead. According to the BBC, their bodies were found in Cablotales village, near the River Aguagua, National Bureau of Criminal Investigation chief Leandro Osorio said. "We are 100% sure that it's them," he added.

Too many evil people in this world. Maria was just visiting her parents and was due to fly out this week to London to represent her country in the Miss World pageant.

Indonesian police force female recruits to undergo 'virginity tests'

Did y'all know that to be a police officer in Indonesia, you have to be a virgin? I know it's none of ya business but it's interesting to read.

According to Human Rights Watch, the organization fighting to get the practice abolished - female police recruits who make only 3% of the country's police force, are being forced to take 'virginity test' before they begin training.

The Indonesia police recruitment website says, 'All women who want to become policewomen should keep their virginity."

The female police officers who have undergone this test, which examines them to make sure their hymens are still intact, say its 'painful, traumatic and really upsetting' and are asking that it be stopped.
"I feared that after they performed the test I would not be a virgin any more. It really hurt. My friend even fainted because … it really hurt, really hurt.' a recruit told HRW
Human Rights Watch say they are working with the government to get rid of the practice as its 'discriminatory and a form of gender-based violence'.
