| Movie: Affairs of the Heart hits the Cinemas March 11 Posted: 11 Feb 2016 12:50 PM PST  The much anticipated award winning movie, Affairs of the Heart will begin screening at the prestigious Silverbird Cinemas across the country come March 11, 2016. The movie which stars Africa's leading Nollywood actors like US based Stella Damasus, Joseph Benjamin and delectable Beverly Naya amongst other Hollywood cast is set to captivate movie lovers with an outstanding storyline of love, betrayal and the power of goodwill. The movie which premiered in the Atlanta sometimes recently has remained a major buzz among movie lovers in Atlanta, Georgia and other parts of the US. Since its debut showing in the US, Affairs of the Heart has garnered so many nominations at different movie awards in the Diaspora with the lead actor, Joseph Benjamin winning two amazing awards for his superlative effort. Directed by award winning director of the soar away 30 Days in Atlanta, Robert Peters, the movie which boasts of a rich story line with in-depth interpretation by the actors is according to the lead actor Joseph Benjamin very 'educative and informative" "Seriously it is a movie you don't want to miss. Said he "…I have never been to a prison before but during that scene when Eric was taken to jail, the very moment the doors were shot behind me that moment for me was like a reality check. Eventhough it was a movie, I couldn't help but begin to appreciate freedom. It was one moment that really got to me and changed my perspective entirely. The movie since its release in the US has won several awards which includes Best Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best director at the popular GIAMA Awards in the US. Ahmad, 24, from Kano State made the announcement on twitter today. Ahmad graduated from Bayero University Kano with Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication in 2013 and was a member of the Buhari Support Organization. He previously worked as the Online Editor for Leadership Newspaper and reporter at Rariya Hausa Newspaper, respectively. |

| Ibori London Trial: Nigerian/British conspiracy revealed in court - aide Posted: 11 Feb 2016 11:59 AM PST  Below is a press statement from Ibori's media office... Mr. Tony Eluemunor, Head of Ibori Media Office, said in a press statement that that evidence was the highlight of Wednesday's court proceedings which was delayed for hours because the London Metropolitan Police and the Crown Prosecution Service, suddenly turned lukewarm and refused to appear in court for the day's hearing. A thoroughly disappointed Judge Tomlinson refused to adjourn hearing to another day but issued an order by 12.30 pm that the Prosecution should be in court by 2pm as the matter at hand, professional misconduct, dishonesty, perverting the course of justice and criminal non-disclosures, lying to the trial court and Court of Appeal, were serious and urgent. This time, the hunters have become the hunted and Ibori's defence team were the accusers while Ibori's erstwhile accusers and prosecutors were the accused. Pointedly, two prosecutors; Sasha Wass and Esther Schutzer-Weissmann were not only at the end of finger-pointing, and have been dismissed from the Ibori case, their activities are now being challenged in court for grounds on which to upturn all the convictions – Ibori's and his associates'. In fact, all the prosecution lawyers plus the entire police officers that have represented the British Police have been dismissed from the Iboir case and all other cases stemming from it – following allegations of corruption against them; lies and deliberate misleading of the court. Yet, the worst charge so far against the British prosecution came when the court resumed by 2 pm as counsel to Ibori's former lawyer, Badresh Gohil, dropped the bombshell. The Counsel, Mr. Kamish, stunned the court when he revealed a sinister conspiracy between Nigeria and Britain to railroad Ibori and associates into jail. He backed this up by pointing at a document signed by British and Nigerian governments agreeing that the Department for International Development will be paid 25 million Pounds Sterling from monies that will be confiscated from Ibori, before any penny is ever remitted to Nigeria. With that document in place, that Department became so aggressive as to start paying the salaries of some police investigators on the Ibori case, especially that of Dectective Constable, John McDonald. Wednesday's hearing was at the request of Ibori's lawyers for the prosecution to explain their non-compliance with court orders made to ensure fair as opposed to unfair trial. Mr. Kenneth Talbot represented Ibori while Kamish stood for Gohil. The case was adjourned to 8th March 2016, to enable the Prosecution appoint new counsels as the old ones that have handled the Ibori case since the beginning have now been tainted and dropped and may be facing investigations of corruption and legal perversity. | Teacher shoots dead six colleagues at school in Saudi Arabia... Posted: 11 Feb 2016 11:55 AM PST  A teacher in southern Saudi Arabia opened fire on colleagues today, Thursday, Feb. 11, killing at least six people and wounding two. The brief reports on the state television channel's website and Twitter account did not elaborate or offer a reason for the shooting at an education department building. It quoted an unnamed police spokesman for the information and said the suspected shooter was in custody. State TV posted a still photograph that showed ambulances gathered outside the building where the shooting took place in Jizan province. Mass shootings are rare in the kingdom, though Saudi Arabia has faced a series of recent attacks by ISIL militants. Jizan, on the kingdom's southern border with Yemen, has been targeted by missiles and cross-border fire from Houthi rebels. On Tuesday, authorities said they shot down a ballistic missile targeting the city and that a police officer in the surrounding province was killed in a separate shooting incident. The lecture will take place under the distinguished chairmanship of His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, President Federal Republic of Nigeria, with the theme "Regional Security and State Building: Portents and Prospects". Keynote speakers at the commemorative public lecture are H.E. Hifikepunye Lucas Pohamba, Former President of Namibia & winner of the 2015 Mo Ibrahim leadership prize and Lord David Richards, Former Chief of Defenseto the United Kingdom Prime Minister and Cabinet. The public lecture will also draw attention to the legacy created by the late General in office, in a period that is still described today as Nigeria's finest period in international diplomacy. He was a foremost Pan-Africanist who placed Africa at the centre of Nigeria's foreign policy and mobilized support for the liberation of other African countries from apartheid, colonialism and neo-Colonialism. In Nigeria, his administration fought corruption and indiscipline, while pursuing peace and security within our borders – he was a firm believer in a peaceful and united Nigeria within an integrated and prosperous Africa. Two other activities are also planned for Kano and Lagos. On Friday February 12, 2016, a historic Jumaat prayer session will be said by the Emir of Kano. His Royal Highness, Muhammed Sanusi II at the Masallachin Murtala, Isa Waziri Road, Gadun Albasa, Kano, where the Late General is buried. On the same day in Lagos, the Murtala Muhammed Foundation in partnership with the National Museum and the Ikoyi Obalende LCDA (Eti-osa LGA) will open to the public an exhibition on the life and time of the Late General Murtala Muhammed at the National Museum, Onikan, Lagos. The Exhibition will be declared open by the Minister for Information and Culture, Hon. Lai Mohammed, after which guests will visit the Cenotaph of Late General Muhammed. The Murtala Muhammed Foundation, is an organization founded on the ideals of Late General Murtala Muhammed and committed to improving the lives of Nigerians and Africans, hasled efforts to develop innovative approaches to dealing with the challenges facing the country. The foundation is therefore honored to lead these efforts. | Photo: Pregnant woman dies during fight with her neighbor in Lagos Posted: 11 Feb 2016 07:33 AM PST  According to PM News, the deceased was rushed to Igando General Hospital and then referred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital LUTH where she eventually died. According to residents, trouble started when the 16 year old daughter of Biodun and the 13 year old son of the deceased started a fight in their compound. Instead of Biodun to discourage them from fighting, she reportedly told her daughter to go and dress up properly to fight Esther's son who is younger than her. This attracted the attention of Esther who rebuked Biodun for encouraging the children to fight. This resulted in both women exchanging harsh words which led to a fight. During the fight, Esther became unconscious and was rushed to hospitals where she eventually died. Police officers from the Ikotun Police station were called in and Biodun was immediately arrested and detained. The matter has been transferred to the SCID at Panti for further investigation. Meanwhile Esther's corpse has been deposited at the mortuary. |
