National Assembly members postpone Budget passing indefinitely Posted: 09 Feb 2016 12:35 PM PST Members of the National Assembly have suspended the passage of the 2016 budget indefinitely following the discrepancies in figures that has trailed the budget. NASS members had fixed February 25th as the date for the passage of the budget but have shelved it. This new development was made known at a joint press conference chaired by Sen. Danjuma Goje, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation and Abdulmumin Jibrin, Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation in Abuja today February 9th. "We need sufficient time to pass a comprehensive budget that is implementable and also acceptable," Jibrin said. |
Graphic photos: Passenger burnt to death in a bus in Calabar Posted: 09 Feb 2016 12:23 PM PST An unfortunate incident took place this afternoon at Mm highway close to Bebosco bustop in Calabar. A bus was involved in an accident and caught fire. All the passengers except one man were able to escape before the bus was completely burnt. The man was sitting close to the fuel tank at the back and had a bad leg and so couldn't escape when others did. He was burnt beyond recognition, mostly because of the proximity to the fuel tank to him. Extremely sad! See the photos after the cut... h |
Disrespect for the office of the Governor! Dakuku Peterside, be warned - PDP Posted: 09 Feb 2016 11:58 AM PST Read the press statement below... Despite the glamour that characterizes the game of politics, it still has a bitter side no doubt. This bitter side or better put, are the pains and regrets that follow losing the election. Of course, nobody goes into any election to lose but one thing is certain. There must be a loser no matter the degree of optimism. While the winner smiles home with victory, the loser shies away like an accused sentenced for a guilt never committed. The winner however, is expected to be magnanimous in victory while the loser notwithstanding the pain of his loss is expected to exhibit the spirit of sportsmanship since there is always a second chance or another opportunity. It's however regrettable that some persons particularly, the 2015 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, seem not to understand this simple political theory. If he does, he will not be as stupefied, extremely embittered and seemingly berserk as he appears to be since the January 27th Supreme Court judgement that upheld the election of Governor Nyesom Wike as a true reflection of the April 11, 2015 voting in the State. Dakuku Peterside, perhaps, yet to recover from the nightmare of occupying an office he has no capacity to direct, an illusion placed on him by no other than his godfather, an equally deluded Chibuike Amaechi, without recourse to commonsense has continued to castigate the executive governor of the State, Chief Barr Nyesom Wike, calling him all manner of names as though we live in a lawless society. It's on record that Mr. Dakuku Peterside had before now described Governor Wike as infantile, insulting the Governor at the slightest opportunity unrestrained and uncautioned. Same Dakuku Peterside on Tuesday, February 09, 2016 at a press conference in APC State Secretariat made rude denigrating allegations against the person of the Governor and most regrettably, putting words into the mouth of His Excellency by recalling and quoting utterances which according to him were those of Gov Wike. There is no gainsaying the fact that the only reason for all this is to incite the innocent admirers and supporters of the people's governor including the presidency and no few members of the APC who are impressed with Wike's marvelous developmental strives in so short a time against him. It's also shocking that Dakuku Peterside who had earlier applauded the Nigerian judiciary as worthy of its name, respect and pride of place accorded it is now castigating the Supreme Court as parading conscienceless people who trade on justice for monetary gains (see his press statement at the conference). Dakuku Peterside whose moral bankruptcy is common knowledge in the State with unmentionable nauseating recent past also has the effrontery to insult and despise the former State Governor (Golden) Sir Dr. Peter Odili and his wife, Honourable Justice Mary Odili of the Supreme Court. Exposing his shallow-mindedness, Mr Dakuku Peterside could not remember when he boasted on January 7, 2016, 20 days before the Supreme Court Judgment that there would be a tsunami in the State very soon, over the Supreme Court expected judgment, while celebrating the nullification of some PDP members of the National Assembly and the order for re-run elections for those offices perhaps, thinking same fate will befall Gov Wike. This is most unfortunate. We have feigned ignorance of Dakuku Peterside's ranting, disrespect for constituted authorities and unbridled lawlessness simply because we thought he was yet to recover from the shock of having been deceived by Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, who used him to create the impression that APC was alive in the State and on account of which he was rewarded with an underserved appointment as a minister. But it has been established that Dakuku Peterside is hell-bent on causing disaffection and crisis in the State by trading on outright lies, propaganda and blackmail. This is dangerous politicking. We therefore want to warn this political neophyte, Dakuku Peterside to caution himself, tread softly on the path of respect for the rule of law, civility and rectitude or be treated like a tout and political jobber he is. Even if, without conceding, Governor Wike had described election riggers as common criminals that deserve no better treatment than other criminals, what is wrong with that honest statement except if Dakuku Peterside is one and rather than be handled as a criminal wishes to be applauded and pampered like a king but God forbid. He is therefore warned for the last time to show some decorum and stop insulting the office of the Governor as the PDP and the authorities will not and cannot continue to watch him despise the sacrosanctity of that office. A word, they say is enough for the wise. Signed: Jerry Needam Special Adviser on Media and Publicity To the Rivers PDP Chairman, Bro Felix Obuah |

A father's heartwrenching tribute to his son who died today...on his one year birthday Posted: 09 Feb 2016 11:10 AM PST A few hours ago today, Ephraim Esla Manga's son who turned one year today died at a private hospital in Kaduna State. According to his friend, Sunday Akoji, the little boy was seriously purging as a result of acute diarrhoea. "Self care therapy administered by the parent include oral rehydration inter alia. By 7am the child was rushed to a private hospital in Kaduna. They met the GP on duty and his first intervention was to set up an IV line to restore fluid and electrolytes balance as the child was dehydrated. The Doctor tried to find an IV line for 3 hours but was unsuccessful. But unfortunately, the child was already dead!" The heartbroken father's post below: "Such indescribable pain. Deaths is really a mystery." Fayose: Buhari should withdraw, represent 2016 Budget, says; “Budget scam is national embarrassment” Posted: 09 Feb 2016 08:51 AM PST Read the press statement below... Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has urged President Mohammadu Buhari to save the country of the national embarrassment being caused by the 2016 Budget that he presented to the National Assembly by formally withdrawing the budget and representing it.According to a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Assistant on Pubic Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, the governor said "the President should admit that there were avoidable errors in the budget and since he is human and not immune to errors, he should simply do the needful by presenting a new and credible budget to the National Assembly." Governor Fayose described revelation by the Health Minister, Isaac Adewole, that the proposal drawn up by the ministry and submitted to the budget office had been doctored and that "foreign" appropriations, different from what was submitted, had been sneaked in as the height of national embarrassment. While addressing the Senate Committee on Health during its budget defence session on Monday, Prof Adewole had stunned the Senators when he said; "We have to look into the details of the budget and re-submit it to the committee. This was not what we submitted. We'll submit another one. We don't want anything foreign to creep into that budget. What we submitted is not there." The minister went further to say that in the revised budget as re-submitted, N15.7 billion for capital allocation was moved to other areas and that there was nothing allocated to public health and family health. In his reaction, Governor Fayose said; "Last week, we were told that the Senate discovered a sum of N10 billion questionably smuggled into the budget of the Ministry of Education for an allegedly questionable subhead. "Also, we were told of the existence of a budget mafia in the Presidency that was said to be responsible for the embarrassing allocations in the budget. "Before now, we were told that a total of N3.87 billion was allocated for capital projects at the State House Clinic alone, over N700 million more than capital allocation to all the 16 federal teaching hospitals combined. "Now, a whole minister has come out to say that budgetary provision for his ministry was forged! "If under a President that says he is fighting corruption, the budget of the country got missing and we are now being told that the budget being considered by the National Assembly has been forged, one cannot but be afraid that there is possibility of Nigeria being forged one day, after the original must have gone missing." |

Suspected recruiter of terrorists for ISIS, others, arrested in Nigeria Posted: 09 Feb 2016 08:30 AM PST The Department of State Security released a statement today stating that a suspected recruiter of ISIS, and others, have been arrested in Nigeria. Read the full statement signed by DSS official, Tony Okpuiyo after the cut... DSS Arrests ISIS Recruiter and Other Terrorists - Planned Terrorists Attacks in States Aborted In line with the Service statutory mandate to decisively and continually provide actionable intelligence as well as act to degrade persons and groups that threaten internal security in the Country, the Service initiated series of tactical operations, involving raids and enforcement actions against identified criminal and extremist kingpins and syndicates across the country. These recent operations have significantly degraded the key extremist groups and kidnapping gangs, terrorizing innocent citizens in the Country, particularly in the South-West, North-West and Middle-Belt regions of the Federation. On 17th January, 2016, one Abdussalam Enesi YUNUSA, a recruiter for the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) was arrested in Kano. His arrest was sequel to available intelligence which indicated his terrorist antecedents and covert drive to indoctrinate and recruit susceptible youths in the country. Prior to his arrest, YUNUSA had completed arrangements to embark on a journey to join an ISIS terrorist training camp in Libya, with other Nigerians whom he recruited for the 'Islamic State'. These recruits include the trio of one Muhammed RABI'U, Yahaya Momoh JIMOH and Zainab SUNDAY (f). YUNUSA is a 400 level undergraduate student of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State, where he was studying for a degree in Information and Media Technology. He was subsequently radicalized and became a member of an extremist cell, comprising of one IBRAHIM (fnu) and Abubakar LIGALI, whom he revealed are currently undergoing terrorist training in Libya. He listed one AMINU (fnu) and Ibrahim JIHADI (Nigeriene), as other ISIS agents operating in Nigeria and the West African sub-region. The cell was being funded by one Abu-sa'ad Al Sudani, a media expert with the extremist group using Western Union money transfers to fund the terrorist cell agenda. On 17th January, 2016, in Daura township of Daura LGA, Katsina State, another budding extremist cell affiliated to ISIS, was intercepted by the Service. One Ibrahim Mohammed DAURA, Zaharadeen SALISU and five other elements of the proscribed extremist group, Ansaru, were arrested by the Service. This group was discovered in an active stage, as its members were already co-ordinating themselves for attacks in Katsina and Kano States. In the same vein, on 22nd January, 2016, one Obansa SALAMI, Ejide TIJANI aka Abu Uwaise II, Mohammed RABIU aka Ubida II, Zainab MOHAMMED and Abdulqadir Salisu AHMAD were arrested in Kano by this Service, while migrating to Libya, with their immediate families including infants, in a bid to join ISIS. This group was apprehended after painstaking monitoring of its network and plans. On 29th January, 2016, the Service arrested Mohammed Aliyu NDAKO in Kwara State. NDAKO is a seventeen (17) year old undergraduate student of a tertiary institution in the State. He was arrested sequel to credible intelligence on his plans with one Abdulkadir Salisu AHMAD a.k.a Daddy Tall, another student in Kano State, to carry out coordinated lone-wolf attacks on selected populated targets in Nigeria preferably worship centres or recreation venues. Suspect had hitherto been communicating with foreign extremist elements, while sourcing online terrorist training and support. Within the window of these tactical operations, between the month of December 2015 and February 2016, the Service, busted the network of syndicated kidnap gangs spanning different regions in the country, especially Kebbi, Zamfara, Niger, Nasarawa, FCT, Oyo and Osun States. Foremost in this line, was the arrest of a gang of five (5) kidnappers, Abubakar HASSAN, Usman MUSA, Usman ADAMU and Idrisa Babangida AHMADU at Ife junction, Osun State, on 3rd February, 2016. On 5th February, 2016, the fifth member of the gang, Saidu ISYAKU was arrested at Ojo area, Oyo State. These kidnappers, Six (6) AK 47 rifles, five (5) magazines and about one thousand rounds of ammunition were recovered. This gang has been active in the South West axis of the country and were at advanced stages of kidnapping high value targets for huge ransom, before they were intercepted. Another breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping was the killing of Abubakar MOHAMMED (aka BUBA), and an unidentified member of his group, on 8th February, 2016 close to Jebba Medical Centre, Jebba, Kwara State by security operatives as they tried to escape during a shootout with security operatives. MOHAMMED was a notorious kidnap kingpin known for his brutality and various acts of lawlessness. It is disheartening that this criminal and his men had terrorized, to no end, residents of the South West zone. He was also linked to the kidnap of the elder statesman, Chief Olu Falae, in Ondo State. In the wake of deliberate vandalism of oil pipelines by criminal elements in the South-South region, the Service arrested one Nengi Samuel IKIBA aka Kockman Abula, a notorious pipeline vandal on 27th January, 2016, in Bayelsa State. IKIBA confessed to vandalizing several pipelines in the State, including the 24" Agoda/Brass Oil pipeline at Idema community in Ogbia LGA of Bayelsa State. The modest success of the Service in its support to the Federal Government to achieve its desired economic objectives and stability may also be noted. To this effect, the DSS have arrested a group of fraudsters who had concluded plans to hack the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) domiciled in the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation in order to steal Four Billion, Five Hundred Million Naira (N4.5b) from the Treasury Single Account (TSA). The gang was led by one Sunny OKOH, a hacker who worked in collaboration with the trio of Uwem Udo EKPO, a Chief Program Analyst in the OAGF, Maxwell EKENE, a retired security operative and Dozie EGWU, based in Malaysia and who is now at large. The suspected fraudsters intended to use a software they had sourced and codes released to them by EKPO to hack Government accounts in the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and defraud the Government of this huge sum. It is instructive to note that a credibility problem would have arisen over the TSA policy if these hackers had succeeded in their plan and thus lend credence to the critics of the policy that it ought not to have been introduced and implemented. For the avoidance of doubt, the suspects have been handed over to the EFCC for further investigations and prosecution. It is pertinent to state that these successes were recorded as a result of proactive and credible intelligence offered by members of the public, sister security agencies and other stakeholders. This Service wish to state that it will continue to deploy every means necessary within its statutory mandate, and armbit of the law to ensure the security and safety of all law-abiding residents and citizens wherever they reside. It is also germane to urge all and sundry to be extra-vigilant, as well as report any suspicious persons/groups or activities to relevant security agencies, for the sustenance of relative peace in the country |
Posted: 09 Feb 2016 08:30 AM PST Yesterday, DMX collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. His people later claimed he suffered an asthma attack but according to a new report from TMZ, after speaking with authority, DMX didn't suffer an asthma attack and was at death's door when he was found Monday night. They said he was not breathing, didn't have a pulse and the signs point to an overdose. From TMZ It's a lot worse than the story DMX's people were putting out ... that he suffered an asthma attack. Yonkers cops responded to a call about an unconscious male at a Ramada Inn just after 6 PM. We're told when cops arrived DMX was on the ground in the parking lot next to a parked car. Cops quickly determined he was lifeless, not breathing with no pulse and immediately began CPR. After a minute of CPR X's pulse came back. A witness on scene told cops DMX had ingested some sort of powder before lapsing into unconsciousness. Cops gave him Narcan, an antidote to narcotic ODs. DMX became "semi-conscious" and was taken to the hospital. We're told DMX appears to be in stable condition and at this time, no criminal charges are expected. |

Rivers election: Wike compromised Supreme Court judges- Dakuku Peterside Posted: 09 Feb 2016 07:51 AM PST APC candidate in the April 14th 2015 governorship election in Rivers state, Dakuku Peterside, says he has it on good authority that Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, had prior contacts with some of the judges of the Supreme court before January 27th when the apex court upheld his election. Speaking to newsmen in Port Harcourt the state capital today February 9th, Peterside said comments from Wike's supporters in the early hours of the day the judgement was delivered by the Supreme court, suggested they had a fore knowledge of what it will be. "Despite my acceptance and temperate public comments on the verdict of the supreme court on the 27th of January, 2016, Gov. Nyesom Wike, by his unguarded utterance last Sunday, seems to give credence to the pervading doubt being expressed on the judgment in public space, especially in the media. Many Nigerians continues to wonder why PDP and Gov. Wike's supporters went on wild celebration across Rivers state as early as 9am on the day of judgment even though the actual verdict was handed down at about 6:20pm of that day. It clearly suggests that they might have been in the know of what the judgment would be, long before the supreme court pronounced it. This is coupled with several comments especially on the social media some 3 weeks earlier such as: 'Thank God there will now be no need for a rerun election….. It is surely ending at the Supreme Court', etc. etc. "Credible information confirmed that Nyesom Wike had earlier confessed to some persons of having met one of the justices of the supreme court in Mbaise during an important burial, another at Owerri in a hotel and yet others in Dubai and Saudi Arabia respectively. These Justices were in the panel that decided the matter in Wike's favour."he saidThe APC governorship candidate further stated that while speaking at a thanksgiving service he held in the state on Sunday February 7th, Wike said the former governor of the state, Peter Odili and his wife, Justice Mary Odili, were his advisers regarding the Supreme court case. "The most striking revelation by Nyesom Wike is contained in his account at the thanksgiving service last Sunday. He obviously stunned his audience and the watching world when he confessed that when it came to the judges, Dr. Peter Odili and the wife Justice Mary Odili (a Justice of the Supreme Court) were his advisers. This simply confirmed his earlier statements that he had contact with the justices after several attempts to reach the chief justice of the country failed. It is therefore obvious that the decision of the supreme court on the Rivers state election was not a product of justice but rather a product of compromise and orchestrated contrivance to legalise electoral violence and rigging and, in turn, reward injustice. This calls for serious introspection by our Judiciary and judicial officers. For the records, in his speech at the church service, Gov. Nyesom Wike probably forgot that he was on live telecast when he stated: 'Let me thank our former governor, Dr. Peter Odili [husband of Supreme Court Justice, Mary Odili]. He will call me midnight to tell me what to do….he will say 'go so so place.' I took all his advice, and here we are today. "This shocking confession needs no further explanation except for you and other decent Nigerians to further make your fair conclusions."he saidSource: TheCable |

Later I got a call informing me that I had won a N200,000 educational grant in the promo. I transferred the grant to my wife who is currently running a PhD programme at the University of Lagos and one of my children, whose school has already issued me a receipt of payment by Lenovo. When I finally gave the testimony in my church, everybody was amazed and said my story must be published! Thank you Lenovo!"
