200-year-old condom made from sheep's intestine sells for £462

Posted: 18 Feb 2016 12:38 PM PST

A condom which measures an impressive 19cm and made from sheep's intestine about 200 years ago has sold for a staggering £462 on online auction site, Catawiki. The condom which is thought to be in use around the 18th and 19th century was expensive and took a lot of time to make hence only the rich could afford them. This was before the advent of rubber condoms in the 19th century.

Condoms from the Middle Ages were made from the intestines of sheep, pigs, calves and goats. The condom which was found in France sparked a bidding war which saw it sell for more than double its estimated value making it the most expensive in the world.

Photos: President Buhari hosts members of the Diplomatic Corps at the State House

President Buhari hosted members of the Diplomatic Corps in Statehouse, Abuja on Thursday, February 18. See more photos and read the Statement by the President at the reception after the cut...

"I am very delighted to have you at this reception organized principally, to provide a relaxed atmosphere for an informal interaction at the early stage of the New Year. Although the year is somehow far gone today for me to say Happy New Year to all of you, but it is not too late to convey my very best wishes for your well-being, joy and peace in the rest of 2016.
2. Only last week the Chinese celebrated their New Year with pomp and pageantry, a year dedicated to the monkey; and come September, the Ethiopians will celebrate their New Year to complete the cycle of New Year celebrations in the world this year.
3. These festive occasions often offer us the opportunity to reflect soberly on our lives and review events that have taken place in the preceding year. For some, each New Year propels them to make personal resolutions, some of which may or may not be kept in the end. For others, they see no reason to celebrate at all because of their personal circumstances. Life can be truly a mixed grill.
4. It is almost eight months since I assumed office. In this time, we have witnessed resurgence in the morale and will of the Nigerian Armed Forces to dislodge Boko Haram from their bases in the North East. The changes in both command structure and operational tactics have brought about significant gains on the ground. The Armed Forces have been given specific instructions on rules of engagement to treat captured terrorists humanely and to avoid civilian casualties
5. It is worthy to note that when I assumed office on May 29, 2015, Boko Haram had full control of fourteen (14) Local Governments Areas in the North East, but today, the group holds no territory in Nigeria. They are hiding in Sambisa forest and occasionally undertake cowardly attacks on innocent citizens in soft targets.
6. This has resulted in a dramatic improvement in the security situation in that part of the country. You are, in fact, aware that people who were once internally displaced from their homes for years are gradually returning to rebuild their homes, communities and livelihood.
7. As the security situation continues to improve, and as more people return to their homes, government will spare no effort to support them with robust programmes and projects to hasten the process of rehabilitation and resettlement. The General T.Y Danjuma-led Committee has been saddled with the responsibility of coordinating these efforts.
8. May I use this occasion to once again thank our friends and partners for the invaluable support they have and continue to render in our fight against Boko Haram.
9. We are quite aware that the war on terror will not, and cannot be won by military means alone. We need a soft approach that speaks directly to the human mind. Poverty and hunger do not only incapacitate, but they can lead to desperation. We are also aware that poverty and marginalization, amongst other factors, can easily create room for indoctrination and co-option into violent extremism.
10. Accordingly, we are paying attention to those economic programmes that will lead to empowerment of the people and thus provide an alternative lifestyle of fruitful engagement rather than resort to extremist and terrorist activities. Job creation and provision of quality education are key areas that are already receiving our attention.
Excellencies,
11. We are resolved to build a stable and prosperous Nigeria, a country that is inclusive of all her diverse peoples and a country that is at ease with itself. Building such a country will not be possible where corruption is pervasive. Mindful of this, it has become necessary to wage a relentless war against the cancer of corruption. So long as corruption holds center stage in the affairs of Nigeria, the country will continue to suffer incalculable harm.
12. You are witnesses to the preliminary findings that have emerged in the past few weeks from our investigations into corrupt practices in different sectors of Nigeria's Public Service. I will leave no stone unturned in the efforts to rid Nigeria of corruption. I must however, add that in doing this, we shall operate within the ambit of the law.
13. In a similar fight in the past, and armed with the might of military muscle, I led a government that required persons presumed to be corrupt to prove their innocence. Today, as committed democrats, and in a culture of deepening democracy, we respect the law that presumes all persons innocent until they are proven to be guilty.
14. Nigeria has no choice, nor can the country afford to be an island in itself. Against this backdrop therefore, since my assumption of office, I have demonstrated my commitment to interact with my colleagues in Nigeria's neighbours and beyond. This is consistent with the pledge that I made at my inauguration to steer the affairs of the country in a manner that will allow us to play the role that is expected of us.
15. It is for this reason, that the Foreign Policy vision which we are currently pursuing is anchored on meaningful engagement with our neighbors, the African continent and the world at large.
16. We would continue to build strong partnerships, strengthen regional ties and promote global solidarity. Nigeria will remain a responsible and active member of the international community; promoting tolerance, accommodation, reconciliation and pacific settlement of disputes. We will also continue to shoulder responsibilities in peace keeping under the auspices of the United Nations.
17. We have benefitted from the dividends of democracy. We have enjoyed an unprecedented period of civil rule, reaching a milestone in our last election, which ushered not only a new government to office, but also witnessed the peaceful transfer of power from a ruling party to an opposition party. Without a doubt, Nigeria's democracy is growing and gaining in strength.
18. We are also convinced that there is no alternative to democratic governance, adherence to the rule of law, respect for human rights and adherence to constitutional order. Upholding these values remains the essential for peace, stability and development.
19. We owe it a duty not to hand down to the next generation a world that is deeply divided and threatened by nature. It is therefore, most commendable that in the last quarter of 2015, the world celebrated the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as well as the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. Today we can celebrate these great achievements in the hope that full implementation and delivery on the promises of these frameworks, will lead to growth and development.
20. I want to assure you that under my watch, Nigeria will accord priority to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as the commitments of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
21. We are under no illusion that achieving these objectives will be easy. We are however, undaunted in our resolve to overcome. We will continue to do all we can to make life safe for our citizens and all residents of Nigeria. We are open for business. We invite those who are ready to come to invest in Nigeria. We will protect their persons as well as their investments.
22. We will take the necessary steps to overcome new and old challenges, enhance our national unity, internal cohesion and ultimately, give our country the image that will be a pride to our people, our friends in Africa and beyond.
Excellencies,
23. I would like to conclude by thanking you for making the time to be here today. I would also like to wish you a pleasant evening with the hope that you will continue to work hard to strengthen the ties of friendship between Nigeria and your respective countries and organizations.
24. I thank you for your attention

In an image shared online, she is seen standing with her boyfriend who doesn't look so pleased with her idea. She made him wear a shirt with three images of her and on its front are the words: "If you are reading this, you are too close. I have a girlfriend." And for emphasis, she underlined the word 'girlfriend'.

The user who uploaded the image, Timewaffle, captioned it: "His face says more than words ever could."

EMoney discovers a 'Shoe - Rack' hawker, gives him a brand new car & N300k! (photos)

Posted: 18 Feb 2016 09:55 AM PST

Five star music president Emeka Okonkwo popularly known as 'EMoney' is a year older today and to celebrate it, he decided to give back to the street.

To do this, he flashed back to sometime last year when the label's front line act Kcee was on the street of Lagos hawking recharge cards. Kcee had met Promise, a 'shoe - rack' hawker from Ebonyi state who has been hawking for over 6 years and promised to help him.

Fast forward to today and E-money's desire to bless the street, the Five Star music crew went in search of Promise who hawks at 'Ikeja Along', Lagos. On getting there, the young man, Promise  and brother has just been picked up by officials of KAI (Kick Against Indiscipline) and transported to their office in Alausa, Ikeja.

Kcee and the crew went in search of him at the KAI office and after several hours of pleading, he was released into their custody after signing an undertaking that he will not hawk again.

Promise has just been given a brand new Toyota Corolla car courtesy of E-Money as well as the sum of #300,000 to get a new apartment. Also his brother and friend that Hawks with him also got a cash gift from the generous EMONEY.

We reached out to Kcee to comment on this and he simply said, 'If you follow the Five Star music family you'll know this is what we do, it's my brother's birthday and he decided to give back to the street and we are grateful to God for his mercies and grace upon us.

Mob Wives' Big Ang dies at age 55 after battle with cancer

Posted: 18 Feb 2016 09:45 AM PST

After giving it her all, Angela "Big Ang" Raiola has lost her battle with cancer. The Mob Wives star passed away early Thursday morning at about 3am. She was 55 years old.

"It is with sad regret that we inform you that at 3:01 a.m. Angelia Raiola peacefully ended her battle with cancer, and was called home," the statement, which was posted on Twitter, read. "She was surrounded by nothing but love from her immediate family, and the closest friends. YOU, (her fans) were some of the most special people in the world, and she loved you immensely. Thank you for your love, prayers, and unconditional support of Angela right to the very end."
Big Ang's rep, Jennifer Graziano, released a statement on behalf of the family, too.
"I am saddened to say that At 3:01 am Ang lost her battle with cancer. She passed peacefully surrounded by friends and family. My heart is broken for her whole family - especially her children and grandchildren and I will never forget her. Her presence brought sheer happiness to anyone that was around her and I am honored to have called her a friend. Please respect her family's privacy at this time as they mourn the loss of such an amazing woman."
The death comes after the reality star faced many hurdles in her health including stage 4 lung and brain cancer. In fact, Janine Detore created a Gofundme page in early February to help fund her sister's final treatments. She also updated fans on her family member's condition.
"On January 26th the doctor reviewed her CT scan and informed us that the treatment was not working, and in fact one tumor grew larger and the other tumors had no change. We were advised that she would start immunotherapy the following week," she wrote. "Well here we are at the emergency room waiting to see why her breathing is labored and the amount of pain she is having is by far more than she could handle."
"Angela cannot function to work anymore…We all thank you in advance for your prayers & kind wishes. Help Big Ang fight her BIGGEST BATTLE!"
When later appearing on The Dr. Oz Show Feb. 16, Big Ang revealed the dire prognosis doctors had given her. Unfortunately, she only had a 30 percent chance of survival.
"It's shocking what happened," she shared. "First I thought I was cancer-free. I was gonna have a big celebration…and then a month later I was stage 4."
Back in April 2015, Big Ang was hospitalized after doctors discovered a large throat tumor. She underwent surgery to try and remove the trouble spot. As a result, doctors told the reality star in October that she had beaten the disease.

Unfortunately, the cancer returned in December and had spread to her brain and right lung.

May her soul rest in peace. Amen!

Photo: 13yr old Urhobo Girl allegedly kidnapped, forcely converted and married off by Hausa Muslim Lover in Bayelsa

Posted: 18 Feb 2016 08:58 AM PST

A Hausa Muslim man identified as Yunusa from Kano state, has been accused of kidnapping and forcefully converting and marrying off 13 year old Urhobo girl, Ese Rita Orur pictured above.

According to The Sun, Yinusa who resides in Opolo, Yenagoa, had abducted Ese on August 12th 2015 and eloped with her to Kano and has refused to allow her return home.

Rita's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oruru, had made several visits to Kano to secure the release of their daughter but have been unsuccessful as Yinusa's kinsmen insisted that Ese, who they now refer to as 'Aisha', belongs to them and that they are ready to pay the necessary bride price.

The Orurus reported the matter to the Police and the Department of State Security (DSS) and their promise to bring home Ese has remained unfulfilled forcing the parents to take the issue to youth and civil society groups.

At a press conference addressed by Kizito Andah of the Child Protection Network today February 18th, the civil society and youth groups in Bayelsa say they are ready to stage a protest and press home the demand for the release of Ese from the custody of her abductors.

That also lamented the inability of both the Nigeria Police and the DSS to secure the release of Ese. They warned against an ethno-religious crisis which the abduction and forceful conversion into Islam could trigger in Bayelsa state. Andah who addresed the press, said CPN was demanding that Nigerians prevail on all relevant authorities to ensure that Ese is released and her abductors are punished in line with the laws of the land.

‘Senator Sheriff Is Substantive, Not Acting National Chairman’ - PDP

Read the press statement below...
The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) wishes to draw the attention of the media and members of the public that His Excellency, Senator Ali Modu-Sheriff is substantive and not acting National Chairman of the PDP as being erroneously rendered by a section of the media.

His appointment by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of our great party in its 68th meeting last Tuesday, to replace Dr. Ahmadu Adamu Mu'azu, who resigned as National Chairman, is in line with section 47(6) of the PDP Constitution, which empowers NEC to fill a vacant position with a person from the zone where the officer originated from. The PDP therefore urges the media and members of the public to note this accordingly. Signed: Chief Olisa Metuh National Publicity Secretary

Discover New Ways to Send Money to Nigeria

ISIS beheads 15-year old boy in Iraq for listening to Western Music

Posted: 18 Feb 2016 08:03 AM PST

A young boy named Ayham Hussein has been beheaded by the dreaded ISIS militants in central Mosul for listening to "western music", according to local sources. He was arrested by militants after allegedly being caught enjoying pop tunes on a portable CD player in the group's Iraqi capital Mosul.

He was dragged before a Islamist kangaroo court which sentenced him to death by public execution.
This is the first time someone will be beheaded for listening to Western Music in Iraq as there's no Sharia law prohibiting such and the incident has sparked outrage among locals.
"Ayham Hussein was captured by the jihadis while listening to Pop music at the grocery store of his father in the Nabi Younis marketplace in western Mosul. He was referred to the Sharia Court, which issued a decision to execute him," a spokesman for the Nineveh media center told ARA News. "ISIS jihadis publicly beheaded the boy," the source said to ARA news, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Toke Makinwa addresses side chics and their attempt to 'snatch' a guy from his main chic

Posted: 18 Feb 2016 07:41 AM PST

In her new Vlog yesterday February 17th, the media personality, addressed man snatching and why its bad for women to date men who already have girlfriends. According to her, some women believe that a guy that has a serious girlfriend is still available as far as he is not married to the supposed girlfriend. Toke thinks this ideology is wrong. She said;

"If you know a guy has a babe, respect the relationship because you would want someone to respect yours as well. You don't have to be best friends. If you know of someone and you know the person is in a relationship, respect her relationship. I don't believe in giving your number to a guy that is seeing somebody else a chance.I am sorry the moment you tell me you have a girlfriend, nothing can make me look at you twice. In my mind I am think"if you have a girlfriend what are you doing here? Some people are like so ''do you want us to remain single?" I feel like this is what adds to the drama females have in their lives because it's not as straightforward as it should be. The more you hear people give advice like "Ah there are no men out there oh! If he is toasting you you better just say Yes! So what if he has a girlfriend, after all, its not as if he is not married to her. They have something and what they have, is leading somewhere before you the homewrecker, boyfriend snatcher ,the man thief decided to shine your eye"she said
